Disneytoon-cember Part 25: Teamo Supremo

In 2002 the Powerpuff Girls movie came out. While it wasn’t spectacular it got a good amount of praise and received a 6/10 by many reviewers out there at the time. It was never meant to be great it was serving as an origin story to one of the greatest cartoons at the time. So when Disney noticed this they decided that if Cartoon Network could do it so could they and they created Teamo Supremo or as fans like to call it the Powerpuff Girls rip-off.

I mean it this whole entire show is a rip-off of the Powerpuff Girls and a little bit of Batman and Superman. The show focuses on these three kids who become superheroes for hire by their state’s governor and protect their city from the villains that commit crimes. We have Captain Crandall the team’s leader who’s like Batman with numerous gadgets on him. He also believes that he’s an alien from a distant planet and as the show goes on his story starts to become canon. Skate Lad a superhero who uses a skateboard to fight and Rope Girl who uses her jump rope as a lasso to fight crime. Yeah not the most inventive superheroes out there and to make matters even worse almost all of their villains were rip-offs of other villains from DC and Marvel. Their main villain was a clown called the Birthday Bandit. Guess what all of his crimes involved, ruining birthday party parties. Was there any effort put into this show? This was the best villain the show could come up with and the fact that this character was voiced by Mark Hamill only makes this sadder. Another annoying thing about this show was that every time they fought (which was horrible. They couldn’t even get the fight scenes done right) they kept shouting out their catchphrase which would appear in big letters on the screen and none of these characters had any substance to them. They weren’t interesting and completely un-relatable. Everybody in this show had no character. They were all just one-note characters that nobody cared for. So why did the Powerpuff Girls work while this show failed? Well for starters the Powerpuff Girls was an original and unique idea. It had good characters who were likable, some well-written stories, interesting and creative villains, and had a good mixture of comedy, action, and adventure. You got invested into this show because you could sense the creativity and excitement of those working on the episode. Here, you don’t that. Teamo Supremo has no originality in its bone whatsoever. The show borrows and copies ideas from both DC and Marvel as well as the Powerpuff Girls themselves. Nobody really seemed to care about the show and were just reading their lines to get paid and leave. Now I don’t think this was one of the worst shows from the decade but it is one of the most poorly done and unoriginal shows I’ve seen and the fact that it came from Disney the studio who prides themselves on creativity is just sad.
