Project #14: Omamori Himari

Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. You know, I’ve always considered myself to be a dog person. Their loyal, obedient, trustworthy, protective, easy to take care of, and always there when you need them. However, if cats were like the cat in today’s anime I would gladly adopt a box of them in a second. I am of course talking about Omamori Himari. Omamori Himari is a manga series written by Milan Matra, the story revolves around a 16year-old boy who is actually a demon hunter who awakens to his powers on his 16th birthday but doesn’t know how to use them so a cat spirit acts as his bodyguard to protect him from demons and monsters out to kill him until he fully masters them. In the story he meets all sorts of interesting characters, befriends demons, and gains the affection of multiple girls in his life. In 2010 an anime adaption came out for the manga created by the anime studio Zexcs, the same studio that bought us D.C: Da Capo, My-HiME, The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, and that mindfuck of an anime called Macademi Wasshoi! So let’s see if this anime can convince me why I should like cats more than dogs, this is Omamori Himari.

Opening and Ending theme

The opening for this anime is Oshichau zo!! sung by AyaRuka which is a combination of the two singers Aya Sakamoto and Ruka Kawada. It’s a very catchy and cute song. It’s one of those songs that get stuck in your head and you’ll be humming it out of nowhere. The ending is Beam by Beam sung by the main female cast for the first 6 episodes and then sung by them individually by each girl from episode 7-11. Much like the opening this song is also very catchy and cute. Unlike the ending from Infinite Stratos where you couldn’t tell the girls apart from each other, in this song you can easily tell them apart. As far as who sings the song the best I would have to go with Himari, I like how strong her voice is as she sings it and she’s bringing a lot of energy to the song as well. In episode 12 the ending song is sung by the male lead of the show, the song is called Sakamichi no hate, a soft song that’s very well composed and to be honest the singer is very good, when I first heard it I was blown away at how well he sung it. I’m not familiar with this voice actor so I didn’t know what to expect but he’s actually an excellent singer, I actually like his ending song a little more than I do the original one.

Episode 1-4

So our story begins where our main protagonist Yuto voiced by Daisuke Hirakawa (Makoto Ito from School Days. My God, he voiced one of my most least favorite characters in anime) is abruptly woken up by his next door neighbor and childhood friend as well as our first love interest Rinko voiced by Iori Nomizu (Nymph from Sora no Otoshimono). Today turns out to be a special day for Yuto because today is his 16th birthday (kanpai!) but it’s also the day of his parent’s death (boo~). Yeah, kinda sad, it turns out that seven years ago his parents died in a car accident and he’s been living alone ever since then because he has no other relatives. This does beg the question on how he’s able to afford living in a 2-story house with no income and why wasn’t he placed into a foster home? We never get an answer to these questions in the anime or manga. Okay, I guess we could assume that the neighbors took him in and have been watching over him from time to time but that still doesn’t explain how he’s able to live in a 2-story house with no income and by himself. Okay getting back to the anime, as the two walk to school their greeted by our main heroine in the series and one sexy girl if I ever saw one Himari voiced by Ami Koshimizu (Kallen from Code Geass) who tries to make a pass at Yuto but Rinko drags Yuto away from her and runs off (ohh~ I’ve seen cockblocking in anime but I’ve never seen pussy-blocking). At school Rinko confronts Yuto on who the girl was but Yuto says that he’s never seen the girl in his entire life (yeah right man, no man alive could forget a girl that hot). The two are interrupted by their good friend Taizo who has become possessed by a demon and tries to kill Yuto (it’s always the one’s closes to you that try to kill you). But luckily Himari shows up and with her sword she exorcises the demon from Taizo’s body and slays the spider-looking motherfucker (the power of anime compels you bitch). In the next scene, we see Yuto in his room at night trying to figure out what all of that was about until an unexpected guest, Himari, comes in and gets in the bed with him (looks like somebody’s about to get a well-earned birthday present). Himari shows up in a night gown with her ginormous boobs hanging out and starts licking Yuto’s neck to arouse him (am I the only turned on by this). Yuto stops her and demands to know what’s going on (dude what’s there to figure out? A big-breasted hot girl has snuck into your house and wants to do the horizontal bop with you. Indulge yourself now and ask questions later). Himari explains to him that he comes from a long line of demon hunters and that the charm given to him by his late grandmother was protecting him from demons and monsters. However, now that he is 16 the charms magic has worn off and now the demons and monsters can sense him and will try to kill him. But luckily Himari who is also a demon, a cat spirit to be exact (which Yuto is allergic to) has been sent to act as his bodyguard because years ago one of Yuto’s ancestors spared the life of Himari’s ancestors and they made a vow that they would serve Yuto’s family forever (see, showing kindness and mercy can come back to benefit you). The next day Himari transfers to Yuto’s school much to the dismay of Rinko who Yuto brings up to speed on the situation. You see Rinko doesn’t like Himari being Yuto’s bodyguard because she’s been taking care Yuto ever since they were children and won’t hand him over to Himari. That, and the fact that Himari has big breast while Rinko doesn’t which kinda pisses her off (a childhood friend who’s small-breasted, competitive, and easily jealous, this is going to be a great harem anime). So Rinko challenges Himari to a series of sports to get her to stay away from Yuto and as you would imagine Himari destroys her in each event to the point that Rinko actually calls her a monster and says that she has no place here which in turn actually upsets Himari but she doesn’t show it and walks away. Yuto finds Himari on the roof where he tells Himari that he trusts her which makes her happy. The episode ends with Rinko going to wake Yuto in his house the next day feeling bad about what she said and walking in to Yuto’s room where he’s sleeping with Himari which angers Rinko.

In episode 2 Taizo suggest that the group go to the beach to have a welcome party for Himari (we could have just had a regular party at a café but we can’t pass up the chance to see her as well as the other girls in a bikini). So the next day Yuto, Himari, and Rinko go shopping for swimsuits and we get a short scene where Himari tries on different bikinis and looking hot I might add in each of them until she finally picks one that makes Yuto blush. Yuto also buys her a white dress because she was gazing at western style clothes intensely and since he didn’t pick a swimsuit for her he felt this was the least he could do (well, it’s good to see he’s not an idiot). The next day comes and they go the beach with Taizo and the class representative Yu (a female friend of Rinko) where Himari is afraid to go in the water (our heroine everyone, she can slash through hordes of demons no problem but gets cold feet whenever she’s around vast water). Rinko loans her a floater and she drifts off into the ocean where Yuto checks up on her and the two get captured by some tentacle monster (I’ve seen my fair share of hentai to know where this leads). They get knocked unconscious and wake up in a cave where the one controlling the monster reveals herself. We see our third love interest in the series a loli-girl named Shizuku voiced by Kei Shindou, a mizuchi (a water dragon deity) who has a deep hatred for demon hunters and has been stalking Yuto throughout the episode waiting for the chance to kill him (she had plenty of chances to do it when he was alone but I guess the timing wasn’t right). When she was a child her village was attacked by demon hunters who killed everyone in the village even though they were living peacefully and harming no one. She also likes to end her sentences with nano, it means nothing, it just her catchphrase every loli character needs one, it makes them sound cuter. Right before she’s about to kill Yuto, Himari shows up and a fight ensues between her, Shizuku, and the tentacle monster (I’m sure it has a name but let’s face it you’re gonna be calling it the tentacle monster). The tentacle monster grabs Himari and Shizuku creates a whirlpool of water to drown Himari but Yuto jumps in and tries to save her much to Shizuku’s surprise. With both of them drowning Himari grabs a shard of ice and stabs herself in the leg causing blood to come out and disrupt the whirlpool letting them escape and destroy the tentacle monster (Tentacle monster: NOOO! I had so many people I wanted to rape). Himari tells Yuto to escape but he refuses saying that he won’t abandon Himari to fight injured which once again surprises Shizuku to see a demon slayer care so much for a demon and she decides to retreat to re-think her strategy.

We move on to episode 3 where Yuto is taking a bath when all of sudden Shizuku comes in through the water appearing right in front of Yuto (call the cops). Himari and Rinko hear Yuto scream and Shizuku hides behind Yuto for protection. Yuto tells her that he has no intentions of killing demons or monsters and that all he wants to do is live peacefully with Himari and Rinko. But Shizuku doesn’t believe him so they work out an arrangement in which Shizuku will be moving in with Yuto to keep an eye on him and see if what he said is true. So Shizuku moves in and begins taking over all the household chores such as cleaning, doing laundry, and making breakfast for everyone. She even goes as far as calling Himari out asking her what she can do in times of peace when there’s no need for her sword (that’s an easy one, she can go the Kenshin route and retire but still be a badass who beats anyone in her path). This pisses Himari off and she leaves the house where she runs into her homeroom teacher and they go to a café where Himari decides to become a part-time worker there. We also meet the fourth love interest here, a cute big-breasted maid named Lizleat (nickname Liz) voiced by Asuka Ogame. Liz is a tsukumogami, the spirit of an inanimate object that comes to life after 100 years. She’s the spirit of an antique tea cup that the owner of the café got from England. Other than that we don’t really know that much about her. When everybody hears about Himari becoming a maid at the café they decide to go and visit her. Once there Himari warns Yuto that Liz is a spirit so Yuto keeps watching her secretly while she grows very nervous and scared around Yuto since she can tell he’s a demon hunter. Not being able to bear it anymore she decides to poison Yuto (this happens in the manga but in the anime she just cast a spell that makes Yuto want to leave) but Shizuku finds out about this and informs Himari who begins attacking her. Himari sees that her attacks have no effect on her and comes to the realization that Liz is a spirit and finds out that her real body is the antique teacup I mentioned earlier. Himari picks up the teacup but Liz begs her not to break it on account of she’ll die if it does break. Himari slips and the cup begins falling to the ground but is caught by Yuto who says that he won’t kill her and that she’s free to work at the café and be happy.

In episode 4 the gang goes to Noihara where Yuto’s grandparents used to live because Himari has become jealous that a lot of girls are getting close to Yuto and is feeling sad that Yuto has forgotten about their time together when he was little. They arrive at the house where they meet Kaya a Zashiki-warashi who watches over the house (if you don’t know what a Zashiki-warashi is read my 7.5 blog to get more information on them) and wants to kill Yuto because she has feelings for Himari and doesn’t like her being away (geez I know these things like to play pranks but this is going a little overboard). While there we learn that Yuto’s parents broke off contact with the grandparents because they didn’t want to get involve with the whole demon hunter thing and wanted to live a normal life (no such thing). After we get another arousing seen of Himari acting seductive towards Yuto (would you two just do it already, as long as you don’t show insertion it won’t be considered a hentai), Himari transforms into her true form a white cat and runs off where Yuto slowly follows her and starts to remember his past. He remembers how he used to always play with Himari as a kid and how being around her always made him happy; he even remembers his first kiss with a girl (this will play a major part in the episodes to come). Himari transforms back into a human butt-naked (it’s fanservice, go with it) and embraces Yuto saying that it’s his punishment for forgetting their time together (if she does this for punishments I like to see what she does for rewards). But there time together is interrupted by Ageha a succubus who has come for the blood of Yuto and her trusty companion and trap character Sasa the ippon-datara. Himari takes on Ageha and a giant monster she summoned while Yuto stands by and watches. While this is going on everyone else is fighting Sasa at the house. Fed up with being protected Yuto jumps in to protect Himari from Ageha’s blade and gets sliced across the chest falling unconscious. After seeing this the beast within Himari is unleashed and she goes on a rampage taking down the giant monster and then tries to kill Ageha but before she can deliver the final blow Yuto manages to get back up and uses his powers to stop Himari.

Episodes 5-8

We start off episode 5 with Himari waking up to Shizuku naked and dry humping Yuto. *Gets up and heads to the shower* UNCLEAN! I FEEL UNCLEAN! AHHHHHHHHH! Alright, after you try to repress what you just saw it turns out she was using her holy water to heal Yuto (I’m afraid to ask where that holy water comes from). She patches Yuto up and they head back to the house where Shizuku explains that Yuto’s family carries a power known as Light Ferry that imbues people and objects with magic. She also says that the more Himari fights the more intense her bloodlust becomes until one day she finally gives into her instincts and goes on a murderous rampage destroying everything in her. Looks like we’re gonna need a lot of catnip when that day comes. So in order to take the stress of fighting off Himari, Yuto gets Shizuku to train him on how to control his powers (finally taking the initiative, kindness is all good and everything but sometimes you need to go Dante on some demons and kick some ass). Shizuku calls over Rinko and Liz (who is now calling Yuto her master the lucky bastard) to help train him to keep a calm and cool composure when faced with danger since that’s the requirement for using Light Ferry. So the girls begin to grope him and try to kiss him as a safe exercise in maintaining composure (if you ask me it sounds like an endurance test to see how long he can go without popping redwood) until Himari shows up demanding what in the hell they are doing (well it was a nice day outside so everyone decided to have an outdoor orgy, didn’t you get the memo)? So she attacks Yuto out of anger and we’re told that for the next few days she kept her car ears out refusing to put them away. The episode ends with a few days going by and Yuto and Himari walking home from school until their interrupted by our fifth and final heroine of the anime Kuesu voiced by Yuki Matsuoka (Yuu from Princess Lover!) a silver haired sorceress who is a demon hunter from another family and fiancée of Yuto. She was the one that Yuto kissed as a child in his flashback we saw in Episode 4.

Episode 6 opens up where episode 5 left off with Kuesu greeting Yuto with a kiss on the lips not once but twice (wow went to the all you can buffet once and came back 15 seconds later for seconds). She leaves saying that she’s staying in the next town over and Yuto should come to visit her but without Himari. Yeah, as you can guess these two ladies don’t like each seeing as how Kuesu is pretty gun-ho on the whole killing demons and can’t stand Himari and Himari because the wench is trying to steal her master. Later on that night Kuesu gets picked up by a guy name Kabutagi who acts as Kuesu’s handler in the series and tells her not to make a scene since this is Japan (yeah, we don’t want you foreigners distracting the people of Japan from giant monster battles and end of the world scenarios, keep your awesome demon hunting to the sides). Shizuku confronts and fights Kuesu and mocks her for coming from the weakest of the families which angers Kuesu to such a degree that she destroys the roof of the building they’re fighting on (meh, I’ve seen worse destruction) and Shizuku escapes. While this is going on Himari is bothered by Kuesu kissing Yuto and finally not being able to stand it anymore she runs to Yuto and demands that he kiss her (hell yeah). This throws Yuto completely off (dude when a girl tells you to kiss her you don’t question it you just do it). He agrees to kiss her on the cheek but the doorbell rings and he “accidently” kisses her directly on the lips which makes Himari so happy that she lets out a cute meow of happiness (that’s one happy little kitty).

In episode 7 nothing much really happens here except for two things. One, Himari rubbing it in the face of every girl that Yuto willingly kissed her which shocks everyone and makes them jealous. Even the emotionless Shizuku is jealous of this that she subconsciously starts to drip holy water from her hands (Himari: 1 Every other girl: pwned). The second is Himari and Kuesu having a showdown with each other where Kuesu uses a magic gun that causes Himari to go berserk but she is bought back to her senses by remembering Yuto and she runs away leaving Kuesu there to shake in fear at Himari’s overwhelming power and falling unconscious in Yuto’s house. In episode 8 Yuto decides to confront Kuesu at her luxury hotel penthouse where he says that he does not see her as comrade for rejecting the idea of co-existing with demons and monsters. This causes her to finally snap and she grabs a knife trying to kill Yuto (you seem to have a yandere relationship with the main character. I like that in a woman). Actually I should probably explain this sudden outburst of anger. In the short time that they been reunited Yuto has forgotten about his promise with Kuesu he made as a child in which they would both become demon hunters together who would watch each other’s back. Kuesu took this to heart and trained hard every day enduring insults and hardships from everyone around her and the only thing that kept her sane and filled her with hope was her knowing that Yuto would have her back when she got older. So as you can see she’s a little pissed off that the boy she loved at a young age grew up into a man who is protecting the demons she’s trying to kill. Kuesu moves in for kill but Yuto awakens to his powers, sends Kuesu flying out of the building, and remembers the promise he made with Kuesu as a child and that he was the one all gun-ho about becoming a demon hunter and killing demons instead of Kuesu (I bet he’s feeling like an asshole right about now). Kuesu flies back into the room and they have a little chat in which she agrees not to hurt Himari or any of the other demons Yuto has befriended as long as Yuto watches her back. After that Himari comes in saying that she heard their chat, makes fun of Kuesu, and says that Yuto won’t fall for her as long as she’s around to end the episode.

Episode 9-12

Episode 9 is where we get the only real arc story of the anime. It starts off with Yuto and his classmates at the park for an art project in which Himari actually strips naked to be a model for Yuto (at this point in the anime anything she does, doesn’t surprise me anymore). Rinko not wanting to be upstaged starts to strip too and while those two are arguing Yuto gets kidnapped by Ageha who kisses and puts him to sleep and starts to suck the blood from his neck (so is she a vampire or a succubus, you can’t have both guys). Himari and Shizuku show up to stop her from completely drinking Yuto’s blood and it gets revealed that the reason she’s doing is to gain a power boast to fight off a demon that has been eating up other demons. Kaburagi shows up and the group meets up to discuss the topic at the café Liz works at where Kaburagi tries to recruit Yuto to fight off the demon saying that if it isn’t stop it will soon come after his friends. And wouldn’t you know it the demon shows up and tries to eat them. And who is this monstrous demon that eats and preys on the lives of innocent demons you ask? Well, it’s none other than the nine-tailed fox. *Picture of Kurama from Naruto shows up* no not that fox, *Picture of Kurama from Yu Yu Haskusho shows up* no not that fox either, though I have to admit that would be pretty cool. No, the fox’s name is Tama who appears in the form of a little girl whose powers have been drained from her because of a seal placed on her so she eats demons to regain that lost power as well as other human food. She’s voiced by Kaoru Mizuhara (Misao Kusakabe from Lucky Star) even though she doesn’t really speak that match and is one of the Three Great Demons of Japan according to the anime. Himari tries to lead Yuto to safety but is stopped by Shuten Douji another one of the Three Great Demons of Japan who’s teamed up with Tama in his quest for revenge against humans who sealed him away for hundreds of years. He’s voiced by Masami Kikuchi (Tenchi from the Tenchi Muyo series. Which one? All of them, which is pretty impressive if you ask me). The group tries to fight Tama but her powers are too strong and she attacks Himari trying to eat her but stops saying that she wants to eat Himari once she unleashes her full powers. Tama and Shuten retreat for now saying that they’ll be back to destroy them later.

In Episode 10 nothing really happens except everyone agreeing to work together to defeat Tama and Shuten. While that’s going on Kaburagi goes behind Kuesu’s back and works out a deal with Tama and Shuten saying that he won’t try to stop them as long as they don’t attack humans (sure, let’s trust the demon who has years upon years of anger against humans for sealing him. I’m sure he’s over it) Near the end, Himari sneaks out at night when everyone’s asleep to try and fight alone but Yuto catches her and he tells her that she is his bodyguard that he wants her to stay by her side no matter what. Himari apologizes, breaks into tears and embraces Yuto (this is quite the atmosphere the two have going on). She looks up into Yuto’s face and just before the two are about to kiss Kuesu shows up to break the mood. Oh come! The mood was the perfect and everything; let us have a little romance in our ecchi anime.

In episode 11 the group decides to go back to Noihara in the hopes of finding more clues into awakening Yuto’s power but Shuten is one step ahead of them and places a barrier around the city to block them in (the games a foot). They head towards the middle of the city where they have their showdown with Tama (let the Hunger Game begin). We get ourselves a one-sided battle in which Tama beats them completely unopposed but decides to retreat because she wants to eat Himari but only when she unleashes her demon powers (yes, let them show off their true powers where they have a better chance at beating you instead of right now when they’re weak and down for the count . . . THINK). They retreat to Noihara where Himari senses them and goes off to fight them where she finally unleashes her demonic powers.

In the final episode Himari has unleashed her powers and transforms into a demonic cat; her skin becomes white with black markings and her thirst for blood infinite. It reminds me a little bit of Inuyasha. She fights against Tama who transforms into her true form but Himari escapes the clutches of the fox and defeats the fox with her overwhelming power (I told you, you should have eaten her when you had the chance ya dumbass fox). The group approaches Himari but she has completely lost her sanity and begins attacking them. They try pleading but their cries fall on death’s ear and she takes them out one by one until Yuto grabs her sword and is prepared to fight her. He readies his sword in preparation to strike but he just can’t bring himself to kill her and instead embraces her which brings her back to her senses (you see folks, this world is ruled by love and peace. Vash the Stampede approves this message). Shuten pissed off that his plans have failed takes to his true form and prepares to fight the group. Yuto who has mastered how to use the Light Ferry enchants Himari’s sword as well as enchant her giving her a more revealing battle kimono than the one she normally wears and she defeats Shuten in two slashes (well that was kinda anti-climactic). After the fight Himari says that her job as Yuto’s bodyguard is done, now that he’s awaken to his power and become a true demon hunter. He tries to use his Light Ferry again as a going away present for Himari but he can’t use it and thus Himari resumes her role as Yuto’s bodyguard. The anime ends with them all going back to Yuto’s house to celebrate their victory with Tama there with them; yeah she’s a good guy now, I guess one loli wasn’t enough for the harem and that’s the end.

Final Thoughts

This anime is great and funny at the same time. The overall story is good, the action though one-sided at times is fun to watch, and the characters are great. The characters are the main driving force of this anime other than the ecchi moments which there are a ton of in this anime. The 5 heroines are the best, each of them with the exception of Liz having a backstory that lets you know who they are, where they come from and why they’re the way they are. Himari is by far the best of the 5 having undying love and loyalty for Yuto, respecting and following the choices he makes but also acting like a girl who gets jealous very easily whenever he’s being fawn over by other girls and wanting Yuto all to herself. She also has a struggle in the anime that is played very well, where she’s constantly fighting off her demonic instincts to go on a killing rampage to stay by the person she loves. It really draws you in to her character and makes you hope that she doesn’t fall into the darkness and leave Yuto and the others. You actually do believe that Yuto and Himari are a couple and you want them to be happy. Looking back she’s actually a lot better than I remember, I actually feel bad I didn’t put her on my Top 11 Hottest Anime Girls List. You know what, screw it, I’m replacing Liru on the list and putting Himari in the #11 spot on the list. The other girls are also good, Shizuku and Rinko have some of the funniest lines and moments in the anime, Liz is cute and for the time we see her on screen she gets a laugh or two out of you, and Kuesu is also well liked and a deep character with an interesting backstory that’s not as good as Himari’s but still interesting and you do sort of feel for her. The animation is alright, it ranges from good animation to cartoon antics like sweat drops on the head, facial expressions that you know can’t be done in the real world, and gushing nosebleeds. The side characters don’t really serve that big of purpose in the anime, Taizo is your typical perverted friend of the main character who serves as the comic relief and Yu while she may not play an important role now does take on a major role later in the story and it’s well hinted that she too has feelings for Yuto. The music is also good ranging from feel good to dark things happening to sad times to intense times and to comedic events. There are no character songs for this anime other than the characters singing their version of the ending and Yuto’s song for the last episode. Actually, there is an insertion song in episode 10 with Himari and Yuto called Hidamari sung by AyaRuka which is quite beautiful and soothe (song here: https://youtu.be/ZiDvw0EnLTs).

If I had any problems with the anime I would have to say that Yuto is kinda weak, he’s not a bad main character he’s just weak throughout the anime. He’s constantly being saved by Himari or Kuesu and one could make the argument that because of him Himari does give into her demonic powers at the end causing her to suffer and it’s his fault that Kuesu grew up to be the person she is today because of his actions and ideas as a child. To be fair in the manga he does start off as a weakling but slowly starts to get better. For example, there was this one chapter that the anime skipped over where he was prepared to kill a demon to protect an unconscious Himari, there’s also a chapter later on where he goes to meet the other demon hunter families and breaks his connection with them because they were hurting Himari, there was another time where he was able to stop a rampaging Shizuku from killing the descendant of the demon hunter family that killed her clan and in one of the latest chapters he does fight Tama where she bites his arm and he just slams her to the ground acting like nothing happened (that’s kinda badass).

Another problem is a personal nitpick of mine, they skipped over Rinko and Yuto’s backstory with each other. It was only one chapter in the manga and took place after they met Liz where it explains the relationship between Yuto and Rinko in how deep and personal their relationship is with one another and how much Yuto relies on Rinko not only as a friend but as person. I was really hoping they would have put that chapter in the anime on account of its one of the more emotional and sad chapters in an otherwise ecchi/comedy manga. Another nitpick I have with the anime is the difference in the way the events happen from the manga. For the most part the events that happen in the anime do happen in the manga but just not in the way the manga does them and sometimes the anime skips over or leaves out characters and events all together. For example, there’s another demon who comes to check-in on Shizuku from time to time that the anime never shows and when Rinko found out that Yuto kissed Himari and Kuesu she wasn’t just shocked she actually punched him out of anger and jealousy. There are many other events that I could get into but I think you’re better off reading the manga then just letting me tell you about them (manga here:http://www.mangahere.com/manga/omamori_himari/).

Probably the biggest problem I have with this anime is the ending. It’s not bad I liked it; I felt it was a good ending to the season but the problem is that ending never happens in the manga. In fact, from episodes 10-12 none of these events happen in the manga, the anime made all of it up. As of currently (as in right now) in the manga the group is right in the middle of fighting Tama and Shuten. Kuesu just got done defeating Shuten, one of the main heroines dies and Himari gets done absorbing the power of Tama which is too much for her to handle and she’s about to go on a rampage. This is one of my big pet peeves with animes, I hate it when animes break themselves from the original story and make up their own series of events. It ruins everything, especially if the anime does so well that when you get the okay to make a second season you completely shoot yourself in the foot because the events in the anime don’t correspond to the events in the manga thus you have to create your own story and hope that it catches the attention of the viewer or that they haven’t read the manga and believe that everything that’s going on in season 2 is really happening in the manga. Yeah, I know animes like Naruto and One Piece have filler episodes but those episodes have no real impact on the story whatsoever and are just there to stall for time and I also know that when the anime was being made the manga only had one chapter every month so there was only about 36 chapters at the time the anime started airing and the manga was still in the middle of the Tama and Shuten arc but still they probably could have just made up their own villain, have that be the final boss of the anime, and then show a glimpse of Tama and Shuten at the end to gain support for a second season. What the anime did for this season of Omamori Himari was squash any chance of there being a second season and that just frustrates me because this series is so good that it deserves a second season.

Final Score

The final score for Omamori Himari is a 7/10. Despite my complaints this anime is still great and deserves to be watched. It’s one of the best harem/comedy/ecchi animes out there and should be enjoyed as one. If you like harem and ecchi animes and you enjoy laughing like myself this anime is for you. You’ll get totally invested into the characters as well as the story. Well, that’ll do it for me. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.
