Project #162: Momo Kyun Sword

*It’s late at night and Nitsuj is up playing videogames*

(Nitsuj): Man I can’t wait to play the new Valkyrie Chronicles game.

(Chibi Isis): Nii-chan?

*A sleepy Chibi Isis comes into the room*

(Nitsuj): Chibi? What are you doing up so late?

(Chibi Isis): I can’t sleep *begins to tear up*.

(Nitsuj): Aww~. *Hugs Chibi Isis* There, there. It’s alright. How about a read you a bedtime story to help you fall asleep.

(Chibi Isis): *Cheers up and smiles* Okay.

*Chibi Isis sits in Nitsuj’s lap as he grabs his laptop to pick out a story to read*

(Nitsuj): Alright here’s a good story. It’s one of my favorite Japanese folklore stories, Momotaro. Once upon a time their lived an old couple in a village. One day while doing laundry by the river they notice a giant peach float down the river and fish it out. The couple decide to eat the peach but when they go to crack it open a baby boy comes out and-

(Chibi Isis): Wait! Is this a remake of the original story?

(Nitsuj): What? This is the original story.

(Chibi Isis): But why is the baby a boy? Where are the celestial maidens and magic transformation scenes?

(Nitsuj): O_O. . .what the heck are you talking about Chibi!?

*Chibi Isis grabs the laptop, presses a few buttons and shows Nitsuj a video of the anime Momo Kyun Sword*

(Nitsuj): What in the world is this? They’re ruining a classic. Who made this anime?

(Chibi Isis): Tri-Slash and Project No. 9.

(Nitsuj): Oh well that explains it.

(Chibi Isis): But I thought these were well-known anime studios.

(Nitsuj): No not really. These guys only do the in-between works of animes. Neither of these studios has done a full-fledged anime and to do a complicated anime like this it’s bound to fail. But I’m getting heading ahead of myself. Let me give you a little backstory about this series. Momo Kyun Sword is in fact an actual thing in Japan. The anime which got started in 2014 is based off a light novel written by Kibidango Project in 2012 and still on-going to this day. The series is loosely based off the Japanese folklore Momotaro. I say loosely because the only thing this series has in common with the folklore is oni slaying. Other than that this series is a huge departure from the source material and is just one big fanservice show from beginning to end.

(Chibi Isis): I thought you liked fanservice Nii-chan?

(Nitsuj): I do, but at the same time I would like a good story to go along with it and this anime has no good story despite ripping off one of the most famous folklores of Japan.

(Chibi Isis): How so?

(Nitsuj): Well Chibi a responsible adult wouldn’t want you watching something filled with suggestive imagery. Good thing I follow the Don Bluth philosophy. What do you say Chibi, think you can brave the night and help me slay this oni of an anime?

(Chibi Isis): Sure.

(Nitsuj): Than let’s get started, this is Momo Kyun Sword.

Opening and Ending Theme

Alright so the opening is “Peach Pink Fantasy” by Haruka Chisuga. It’s a nice song. It’s catchy, upbeat, and the animation really captures the overall feel of the anime. The song really does have that magical girl feel to it. Overall I liked it even though I didn’t expect to like it. The ending is “Momo Kyun Sword” by Ayana Taketatsu. For some reason I didn’t really care for this ending. It’s not a bad song it’s quite catchy and upbeat just like the opening but for some reason I just never really got into it. Although I will say the ending is rather hypnotic.

Episodes 1-4

So the anime opens up much like the original story of Momotaro. An old couple living in a village notice a huge peach coming down the river (nothing strange here, just common everyday life in Japanese folklore). They fish the peach out and once they open it a baby girl (instead of a boy) comes out and the old couple decide to adopt the child for themselves naming her Momoko (you guys do know that’s not how adoption works right?). We then fast forward to years later where onis have begun to move searching for what’s known as the fragments of Michimi no Momo (Chibi Isis: Sounds like a tasting snack from Japan) a mysterious peach containing tremendous power. Sensing this the celestial maiden Sumeragi sends her teen fighters known as the Ten’nyo Group to Japan to find the fragments before the onis do (yes, because this totally happens in the story of Momotaro). Speaking of Momotaro we go back to Momoko now in her teen years, having grown beautiful peaches, and voiced by a popular voice of my blogs Ayana Taketatsu (Ayumi from The World God Only Knows) training with her three animal companions Inu (the dog who looks like Amaterasu from Okami), Saru (the monkey, //youtu.be/MdrlALQVEKM?t=14s), and Kiji (the pheasant). After training they return to their village preparing for a festival where she finds out that mysterious people are headed toward the village (the onis are coming. The onis are coming). After hearing this as well as the rumors of onis attacking other villages Momoko believes it’s the onis and goes out to face them only to see that it’s the Ten’nyo Group who have come to get the Michimi no Momo fragment located in the village’s shrine. But before Momoko can take them to the shrine the village gets attacked by onis (man these guys are quiet, they came out of nowhere. (Chibi Isis): They must play a lot of Assassin’s Creed and Metal Gear Solid) and Momoko as well as the Ten’nyo Group have to protect the village from the oni attack (go go Ten’nyo Group! You obvious rip-off of Power Rangers). After handling the onis they make their way to the shrine only to arrive late because the oni leader Tekki has found the fragment and claimed it for himself. The girls try to stop him but fail forcing Momoko to do a spirit union and fuse with Inu (Dragonball Z did it. (Chibi Isis): As well as Megaman) where she grows a tail and gains super human strength (//fav.me/d7qke4w, *chuckles* okay, as ridiculous as this is, I have to admit that’s pretty hot. (Chibi Isis): Nii-chan’s ecchi nature is starting to come out again). With this fusion Momoko is able to get back the fragment and cut off one of Tekki’s horns forcing him to retreat. After the fight Sumeragi appears in hologram form to ask for Momoko’s assistance in dealing with the onis across the country and she agrees to go. We end the episode with Momoko setting off with her friends to vanquish the onis and find more fragments.

We start episode 2 on what I believe to be Oni Island where we see that the onis already have four fragments and have found the next one in a village called Harima (Chibi Isis: Sharima. (Nitsuj): Harima. (Chibi Isis): Charima. (Nitsuj): Okay repeat after me. Ha. (Chibi Isis): Ha. (Nitsuj): Ri. (Chibi Isis): Ri. (Nitsuj): Ma. (Chibi Isis): Ma. (Nitsuj): Now say it all together. (Chibi Isis): Harima. (Nitsuj): Good job Chibi good job *Nitsuj pats Chibi Isis on the head as she smiles and blushes*). The leader of the onis Jakio sends his general Genki to retrieve it but before he can leave Jakio’s daughter Onihime voiced by Minami Tsuda demands that he takes her with him because she’s always wanted to visit the human world and threatens him into bringing her (alright cute and evil. I’m liking her already). We then cut to our traveling warrior trying to fuse with Saru but failing because their hearts aren’t aligned. The Ten’nyo squad comes in to tell them the next fragment is in Harima so they head there with Momoko excited by the big village (I’ve seen bigger) and gets into an eating contest against Onihime (in disguised) for the last dumplings (Chibi Isis: Those must be some good dumplings. Also couldn’t they just share it?). They both tie in the contest (alright tiebreaker, mud wrestling. Let’s get it on! Oh please this anime is pretty much fanservice so why not go the distance and go all out) and Genki comes in to drag Onihime away. After the contest Momoko and her group find the person who has the fragment but he refuses to give it up saying it’s the family treasure (dude there are onis coming for the fragment, why would you want to keep something like that around? Do you have a death wish or something?). As the group is trying to convince him the house just spontaneously catches on fire scaring everyone away but it turns out it was just an illusion created by Genki who has the power to trap people in illusions even if they know it’s an illusion (how does that work?). Onihime reveals herself to Momoko and challenges her to a fight where we see she’s a strong fighter who’s very fast (Chibi Isis: Kinda reminds me of Yin-chan) and overpowers Momoko. The others get trap in another illusion by Genki which sinks them into the ground but Saru manages to escape and with the help of Sumeragi’s assistant Kushinada (who is a straight up masochist) they receive dumplings that help them fuse together. Once she fuses with Saru, Momoko becomes faster, trades in her sword for Wolverine claws, gets blond hair (sorry, I only go for natural blondes. Oh who am I kidding I’ll go for any girl no matter what hair color) and grows a tail (//fav.me/d7tgmgr). With this power up Momoko is now a match for Onihime and manages to beat her and takes out Genki blasting him out in the sky (Chibi Isis: Looks like Genki is blasting off again) but Onihime manages to get the fragment before Momoko (how, I have no idea) and escapes. We end the episode with Momoko and Onihime eating dumplings again feeling bitter about their losses to each other and vowing to one day destroy the other (I think these two are gonna make good friends).

Our journey continues in the Country of Yamato in episode 3 where the group is told the next fragment is located somewhere in the mountains. While in the mountains they receive help from Abeno a wizard and his familiar Toutetsu sent from the imperial court to help them locate the fragment (and who really does nothing throughout the episode and is secretly a bad guy). The group searches the mountain but can’t find the fragment and keep setting off traps in the mountain. At night Onihime and Enki the only female oni general who has a good friendship with Onihime and might possibly be a lesbian (//youtu.be/cjdDoWtsOU8?t=15s) kidnap one of the celestial maidens and holds her captive in exchange for the group finding the fragment and handing it over to them (you got yourself a deal and as an added bonus you can have me as well). The group manages to find the fragment in a giant tree (Chibi Isis: In hindsight that probably should have been the first placed they looked) and they exchange the fragment for their fellow celestial maiden. Onihime and Enki try to escape with the fragment but Momoko fuses with Kiji getting a bow and arrow, green hair and a more revealing outfit (//fav.me/d7tgmmt, so far my favorite transformation. (Chibi Isis): I can’t imagine why). She takes to the skies and spots Onihime and Enki where she fires a series of arrows at them which hit Enki allowing Momoko to reclaim the fragment and force Onihime to retreat. At the end of the episode we see that Abeno found the fragment and kept it a secret from the others. Apparently the imperial court want to use the powers of the fragment to control both the onis and the celestial maidens and helping them is Kaguya the moon princess who in this version is a busty brilliant scientist who wants to return to the moon.

In episode 4 it’s the obligatory beach episode (did I mention this anime was a fanservice anime? Just throwing that out there for people who didn’t know/forgot). Momoko, her animal companions, Abeno, Toutetsu, and the celestial maidens take a day off from searching for fragments as a part of Sumeragi’s benefit package that comes with being a celestial maiden (Chibi Isis: Hey Nii-chan, do we get a benefit package? (Nitsuj): You guys pretty much do whatever you want why would you need a benefit package). Speaking of Sumeragi she’s there along with Kushinada as well and to add more fanservice to this fanservie Onihime is there along with Enki and Genki (alright, let the fanservice commence). Both sides call a truces for the day and we get to see all the girls in bikinis with their breast on display and the men ogling from afar (what I wouldn’t give to be in their spot right now). Even Kiji flaunts her stuff by turning into a big-breasted beautiful human woman (she’s been holding out on me). We also see Momoko and Onihime bond with each other and even start to develop a friendship (you know I’m really having a hard time getting a beat on this anime. I can’t tell if it’s trying to put a different spin on one of the most well-known Japanese folktales or if it’s just a yuri anime in disguised waiting to happen. Either way, all I know is I’m seeing fanservice and I’m happy). As everyone’s having a good time a giant squid appears to attack them (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS~, here it comes) and tentacle rapes all the girls except for Momoko (Giant squid: This is the greatest day ever. I shall pass this day on to all my descendants so they can embrace the pleasures of tentacle rape. And make them jealous in the process). Sumeragi discovers that the squid has a fragment lodged within its head so Momoko transforms with Inu and manages to get the fragment returning the squid back to normal and ending the beach episode (so far best episode in my book).

Episodes 5-8

The search for the fragments continues in episode 5 where Momoko and her furry friends are having a hard time dealing with an oni named Youki an oni who uses this poisonous fog to mess with the senses of our characters. Because of this the group loses two fragments to him and tensions begin to rise within the group (oh boy, it’s the fighting episode. Get ready for a snorefest folks). The tension finally reaches its peak when the gang gets into a fight with each other and all go their own separate ways where Momoko falls off a cliff (yet somehow doesn’t die or have any serious injuries. (Chibi Isis): Yeah, because that’s totally believable) and we get a little backstory into how the animals are related to Momoko. When Momoko was still a peach (and before she grew them) the animals (who at this time never knew each other) saw her floating down the river and protected her from the dangers in the river such as rocks and edges until she finally reached her grandma and grandpa where they decided to adopt her and the animals took it upon themselves to be her masters and guardians teaching her right from wrong (okay I find it a little hard to believe that these three mystic animals who have the ability to speak and in no way had prior relationships to each other came together and just decide to help out a peach. In the original story the animals joining Momoko was a little better explained. (Chibi Isis): How so? (Nitsuj): Well for starters Momotaro didn’t meet the animals until he went on his quest to defeat the oni and even than the animals joined him because he helped them out and they wanted to repay their debt to him. This is one of the main lessons in the story. Always help out others without asking for nothing in return and always pay back your debts. It’s a lesson that teaches kids don’t do good things for something in return, do good things because it’s the right thing to do and nothing else). The animals remember their time with Momoko feeling bad about leaving her alone (how could you guys walk away from those peaches?) and all of them begin to make their way back to Momoko who’s being attacked by Youki and his gang of oni. He uses the fog to perform tentacle fog rape on her (Fog: The squid was right. This is awesome! I’m tweeting this to everyone in my circle. But first a selfie). Thanks to the Celestial Maidens the fog gets lifted (Chibi Isis: Wow, they were actually useful for once. (Nitsuj): First time for everything little lady) and allows the animals to save Momoko where she and Saru fuse together and defeat Youki destroying his bottle of fog (Fog: Free at last! Now I shall develop fog censorship that will appear in hotsprings for no reason other than to annoy men). They all apologize to each other and continue on their journey.

Nothing really happens in episode 6. The gang arrives in the Kazusa region which is heavily influence by the way of the samurai (the ratio of men to women is 10:0 apparently). When the smaurais see the Celestial Maidens (oh God the anime is turning into a hentai *covers Chibi Isis’ eyes*) they surround them and praise them for their beauty (oh nevermind *removes hands from Chibi Isis’ eyes*). Sumeragi seeing a profit in this decides to turn the squad into idols (how is this woman a goddess? (Chibi Isis): Making a lot of assumptions Nii-chan). So as you would expect the girls devote all of their time to being idols and forget about the fragment search but surprisingly the girls don’t engross themselves in the fame. They still ignore Momoko and the others because they’re idols but they don’t get big-heads or anything. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It’s good that they don’t get big heads because it shows that deep down they know what they’re real mission is and what they do and in the end when Momoko and the others are cornered by Genki they do show up to help doing the right thing realizing that this is their mission but at the same time it’s kind of a letdown because the episode pretty much becomes a snoozefest with nothing really happening and you predicting everything that’s gonna happen. So if I had to be completely honest about this episode I say it was a complete waste of time and should be skipped seeing as how it doesn’t add anything new to the cliché and nothing really happens in it.

We get to see the friendship and respect between Onihime and Momoko again in episode 7. While the two are fighting over a fragment Momoko loses her dagger and abandons the fight all together to go look for it (but what about Japan? Japan). The animals tell Onihime that dagger is a keepsake from her grandpa and attached to it is a charm that holds a mysterious piece she was holding when she was born. This piece is very important as it’s the only clue she has to who she really is and where she comes from. Now this is a nice addition to the character’s depth. It shows us that despite the fact Momoko sees the animals and her grandparents as her family deep down she wants to know who she really is and where she comes from something the original story never really focused on. Youki finds out about the missing dagger and finds it saying he’ll give it back if Momoko hands over all of the fragments in Japan (dude who knows how many fragments there are this could take years). Onihime feeling guilty about Momoko losing her dagger steals the dagger away from Youki and returns it to Momoko (Chibi Isis: The sismance between them is strong). Jakiou finds out about this (oh here comes the punishment) and surprisingly he’s proud of Onihime (what are you crazy? I mean, good, you should be proud of. . . why are you proud of her again?) for developing her own code of honor, following it, and having no regrets for her action (wow, that’s actually good parenting on Jakiou’s part. This short scene just showed us that despite Jakiou being the main villain in this anime he’s actually a reasonable guy who knows he’s not always right and wants his oni to think for themselves rather than follow him blindly).

Episode 8 is the hotsprings episode (first a beach and now a hotspring episode. This anime is hitting all the right notes on fanservice). After hearing rumors about a hotspring town having springs that’ll make your skin look younger, grow bigger breast, and remove wrinkles are female cast goes to these hotspings in the hopes of looking younger (Chibi Isis: But mostly to get bigger breast). Abeno and Totetsu are also there enjoying the hotsprings where Abeno tries to take a peek into the girls’ bath saying it’s better to peek and die rather than not peek and live (amen brother) but the girls hear him shouting this and get out of the springs (he screwed himself over so bad). Once out of the springs the girls discover that somebody has stolen their panties except for Sumeragi’s because she’s. . .Chibi, how would you describe it? (Chibi Isis): Over the hills. (Nitsuj): Yes, that’s a nice way to put it, over the hills. They manage to track down the pervert who happens to be the owner of the inn they’re staying at (pervert! (Chibi Isis): Isn’t this like what the pot said to the kettle? (Nitsuj): Et tu Chibi? Et tu?). The owner explains that the reason he’s doing all of this (outside of being a pervert) is because a rogue oni that lives in the area has been threatening them demanding the panties of young girls. In return for staying at the inn for free the girls agree to defeat and capture the panty oni (did I really just write that?) for the village. They present the panties as an offering where the panty oni comes and begins sniffing them and wearing them (by God he’s even more perverted than the squid from the beach episode. And that guy invented tentacle rape). The girls attack him where he takes a pair of panties, eats them (Chibi Isis: Eww~) and gains a power up because apparently this oni grows stronger after eating the panties of young girls (fet-ish episode). After the pervert oni swallows the panties of Sumeragi he loses all of his powers and Momoko takes it down saving the village and getting back their stolen panties (though if I was them I throw them out and buy new ones).

Episodes 9-12

Big revelations happen in episode 9. We find out that Momoko and Onihime are actually sisters (hot sisters with Momoko having big breast and Onihime having a nice butt) and not just sisters they’re twins (I don’t see the resemblance). The animals tell both of them that their mother was a celestial maiden who broke the rules and fell in love with an oni (that’s against the rules isn’t it? (Chibi Isis): Screw the rules I’m in love). Their father died long before they were born (of course he did) and when the other celestial maidens found out about this unholy union they hunted her down. She escaped but fell weak (Chibi Isis: Really?) and used the last of her powers to send the two giant peaches carrying Momoko and Onihime to the human world (well to be fair if I laid two giant peaches that size I be pretty weak too). The animals thought Onihime died in the current and tell her that Jakiou isn’t her real father (//youtu.be/Pw2sex1mJNI). Onihime refusing to accept this runs away (can’t say I blame her. (Chibi Isis): I can. Quit being a coward and face the truth). The next day the celestial squad comes to pick up Momoko and the others because the Michimi no Momo’s core has been found and it’s even more powerful than any of the fragments so everyone wants it. They arrive on the scene where the onis are already searching for it and fight the oni where Tekki shows up determined to defeat Momoko (I’m guessing you’re still mad about the whole cutting off your horn thing huh?). Momoko fights him where she’s outmatch, loses, and the onis find and take the core (now the world is there’s for the taking). While that’s going on Youki and Enki arrive at Kaguya’s place, take down Abeno and Toutestu, and tell Kaguya to come with them since they need her scientific mind to bring out the full power of the core (Chibi Isis: Join the oni side for we have cookies). She decides to go with them betraying Abeno (you tramp) saying that she doesn’t care who she serves as long as she can return to the moon she’ll team up with anybody (tramp).

Episode 10 just serves as build up for what’s to come (Chibi Isis: A massive battle that will decide the fate of folklore Japan). 10 days have passed since the onis got the core and nothing has happened yet (they are creating suspense). Abeno comes clean and tells them that all this time he and the Imperial Court were planning on creating a device to attract all the fragments and use the Michimi no Momo’s core to rule both the oni and celestial world (scum). He tells them that Kaguya has created a machine which will attract all the fragments to the core and sure enough the sky becomes filled with pink glowing shooting stars (Chibi Isis: Quick! Start wishing *begins to rub hands together*) signaling that the fragments are heading to Oni Island. Momoko, the celestial squad, Abeno, and Toutestu race to Okinawa but along the way they stop at Momoko’s village where she tells her grandparents she’s knows who she really is and they knew all along (and you choose not to tell her? That’s not important enough?). They tell her that they don’t care if she’s an oni, celestial being, or a half-breed, they love her for who she is and that she as well as the animals are welcomed back any time (what a nice couple). After this she and the animals rejoin the others and they reach Okinawa just as the Michimi no Momo has finished forming. Oni Island emerges from the ocean (again a blatant error on their part as the island was located off the coast of Japan instead of underwater) and flies to the Heavens firing random beams on the folks of Japan and reaching the celestial world where Jakiou plans to destroy it. Momoko and the others fly up to Oni Island where they land on the island and get greeted by a group of oni (you guys must be the welcoming party).

In episode 11 they fight their way pass the welcoming party and enter the castle. Once inside the castle we cut to Onihime confronting Jakiou about her past and why he lied to her. He says there was no reason for taking her in, he just saw her as someone who was abandoned and betrayed by the celestial realm and thought it would be funny and ironic to have Onihime be the one to destroy them (in his defense it is kind of ironic but at the same it’s mean, wrong, and just evil). After hearing that Jakiou never really loved or cared for her (how do you not love Onihime she’s the best character in the show) she breaks down and cries feeling all alone and confused on what to do next (Chibi Isis: Get revenge on the meanie who betrayed and hurt you). Enki comes in and tells Onihime that even though she isn’t a oni she’s still Enki’s best friend and should do what she wants to do (or do I want to do, have a nice long bath with me). Also in the castle Youki betrays Kaguya because the oni no longer need her in fact he tells her that they were planning on betraying her from the very beginning (yeah I feel no remorse she deserved this). Back with Team Momoko we get the classic cliché where everyone but the hero takes on the mid-bosses while the hero keeps moving on to the main boss (oh hey the anime turned into a shounen). Before facing Jakiou, Momoko and her animal friends have to defeat Tekki (Chibi Isis: Round 3. Fight) and this time she completely owns him and cuts off his other horn (Chibi Isis: Now they match. (Nitsuj): Flawless victory goes to Momoko, //youtu.be/FfvTXACPv30?t=4s). She finally reaches Jakiou and we get our grand fight where Momoko starts off getting her butt kicked and the animals just watching (yall lazy bums help out too). Even when Momoko fuses with the animals she’s still no match for him (just fuse with all of them we all know it’s coming). She finally unlocks the hidden power within her sword (hi, hello, where did this come from?) and fuses with all three of the animals to become a goddess, rip-offs Dragonball Z by shouting at the top of her lungs which somehow makes her stronger, and finally rips off Rurouni Kenshin by having delivering a series of slashes to Jakiou which defeat him (oh you cannot be serious?). With Jakiou defeated, Momoko and the others catch their breath and begin searching for the Michimi no Momo.

In the opening scene of the final episode as Jakiou lies under a boulder slowly dying Onihime comes to him unsure of what to do (and going to ask advice from the guy who said he never loved or cared for you was your best option?). Jakiou tells her to do what she wants to do saying it doesn’t matter if she’s a oni or a celestial maiden, she’s one of kind, and no matter where she goes in life Onihime is Onihime. On his final breath he gives his sword to Onihime and names her the new leader of the oni (okay first you care about her, than you say you don’t care about her, and now you care about her. Pick a side already? (Chibi Isis): He’s definitely giving off that bipolar feeling isn’t he? (Nitsuj): Yeah, it’s kind of a tease really). Momoko makes it to the peach where we see that Kaguya is still alive and so is Youki (how many times do we gotta kill this guy? (Chibi Isis): Once should suffice Nii-chan). Youki tries to harness the power of the peach but it proves too much for him and kills him causing the peach to once again break apart and scatter throughout the world (we are not doing this again). With the peach gone the island begins to fall from the sky and before everyone can escape Onihime shows up wanting to have a swordfight with Momoko (okay no problem. As soon as we escape the falling castle you can fight all you want). Rather than escape Momoko de-morphs from the animals and faces Onihime herself where everyone cheers them on (so we’re just gonna forget the falling island huh?). Sumeragi uses her powers to stop the island from falling giving the onis and everyone else the chance to escape except for Momoko and Onihime who are determined to finish their fight (you can fight when you’re on solid land). Momoko manages to beat Onihime and they all manage to escape the island via cutscene (Chibi Isis: Oh you lazy bums). We fast forward about a month where things are starting to recover. Kaguya is still determined to return to the moon and Abeno tells her that he and the humans will continue to support her (despite the fact she betrayed you for her own goals and nearly destroyed you). The oni have set up base on land and are building a new castle (and the humans are okay with this), and we see that Onihime comes over to Momoko’s house daily to have a swordfight with her (I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that Momoko is the elder sister while Onihime is the younger sister) and we end the anime with them fighting each other (. . .kids).

Final Thoughts

Now I know what you’re thinking, I’m gonna rip this anime apart, I should hate everything about this anime and everything in it? Well I’m not because this is pretty much what I expected. I mean, when you read the overview for this series and saw the character designs what did you expect to happen? This anime told you guys from the beginning that it was going to be a fanservice anime and nothing else. Now that doesn’t mean it’s a good anime far from it, it’s still bad. The characters aren’t all that interesting, the fighting and story is cliché and predictable, and the music isn’t all that good to listen to but at least the anime had the common courtesy to tell us what we were in for and gave us a chance to back out. To the anime’s credit they do try to add some interesting aspects to the story such as Momoko wanting to know where she comes from and Onihime’s relationship with Jakio and Momoko but they never really take advantage of these aspects and explore them as much as they should. The series is also unsure of what it wants to be a magical girl anime or a comedic samurai story. The animation is amazingly bright and colorful for a fanservice anime and the fanservice for the most part is pretty hot and done well. At the end of the day this is a silly fanservice anime that I never expected to be good and anyone who thought it was going to be good from the beginning were fooling themselves. It’s not a good anime but I don’t hate it.

Final Score

The final score for Momo Kyun Sword is a 3/10. I can’t really give this anime a score lower than 3 because it gave me what I expected. Fanservice at the expense of a famous Japanese folklore that I can’t help but laugh at and not take seriously at all. If the anime had started off showing promise of a good and epic story with a nice balance of fanservice, action, and comedy than we would have room to talk but from the beginning you know this anime is going to be nothing but a fanservice anime with a weak plot, uninteresting characters, and story. My advice, read the real story of Momotaro it’s not really that long and it’s a good read. As for this anime, if you’re not a fan of fanservice animes skip this anime all together but if you’re looking for mindless fanservice I guess it couldn’t hurt to check this anime out. Anything you wanna add Chibi?
