Project #97: Hellsing Ultimate Part 2

*Nitsuj wakes up from his nap* Urgh. I needed that nap. Now where did I stop again? Oh yeah episode 5 all of London bursting into flames and London bridge falling down. Okay, let’s check out the second half of Hellsing Ultimate.

Episodes 6-10

In episode 6 Enrico is promoted to archbishop and put in charge of not only Iscariot but other groups as well such as the KKK (okay technically they’re crusaders but they’re dressed in white and wearing hooded robes. Just put a burning cross behind them and the image of the KKK is complete). Because of this Enrico begins to go mad with power and orders his army to destroy London (You’re one episode late. This is why you don’t give idiots power). Back in the city Integra gets the members of Iscariot to escort her back to her mansion. How? Well by showing them who’s in control (just as you expect. The one who controls the badass Alucard is a badass herself). Zorin begins her attack on the Hellsing mansion by firing 24 missiles at the place but they all get shot down by Seras and her new guns (scene here: //youtu.be/OstS0Slz8yc, now that’s what I call a bitch who loves cannons). After shooting them down Pip gives a few short words about the destruction of London and how he feels about the place and tells Seras to shoot those vampire Nazi zombies out of the sky and she gets them all (well Seras turned badass finally). After the airship falls we see that some of them are still alive and are ready to storm the place but they learn the hard way not to underestimate the Wild Geese (or particularly Pip. Scene here: //youtu.be/uGTYEhk1Tqs, never again will I make fun of the France. Well except on Wednesdays). The Wild Geese hold the mansion by stopping the enemy movement and forcing them to hide but Zorin uses her powers of illusion to project herself as a giant who attacks the mansion and starts killing them all. The illusion works on Seras but she finally activates her third eye allowing her to see through the illusion, taking a shot at Zorin which hits her face (well at least she looks a little better now), and snapping everyone out of it but it’s too late as the Nazis have taken this opportunity to figure out where all the mines are and make a safe route to the mansion. We end the episode with the Wild Geese deciding to regroup and Seras going off to hold the line herself. However before she goes Pip has one last order for her (scene here: //youtu.be/LAHShDMmytE, hey as long as she’s giving away kisses can I have one too?).

The fight continues in episode 7 with the Nazis overrunning the place and forcing the Wild Geese into a corner where even a few of the members are ready to give up (scene here: //youtu.be/r5mJG-VJrhk?t=2s, you know splitting up may not have been an overall good idea. Also, why didn’t Integra give them holy/silver bullets? They’re fighting vampires so you could have at least equipped them with the right equipment to fight back. I mean come on, I gave my AI girls weapons and everything to defend my system and me in case the need should ever arise. Looking back at all of it I see that its mostly used to hurt me rather than help me). Seras mows through all the Nazis until the only one left standing is Zorin and the battle between the two female vampires begins (scene here: //youtu.be/7ESLQtfXKTk, man her mother was raped after she was killed. That’s fucked up and how did she survive that shot through the chest? Second scene: //youtu.be/cHxen84f69A, your skills are complete now Seras. Go take your rightful spot next to Alucard, there is no more I can teach you). After defeating Zorin (in one of the weirdest ways to die in my opinion. I was expecting something more gruesome) we end the episode with Seras flying off to London to kill more Nazis (hope you guys have had your fun because you got one dangerous woman coming after you).

In episode 8 it goes down. Enrico shows up with his army and begins killing everyone in the city zombie or human saying that this is all God’s will for the greater good (//youtu.be/N_q2wBzT6uU). Anderson sees all of this and finds this madness unacceptable (//youtu.be/07So_lJQyqw) and stands against Enrico. Seras arrives by the side of Integra saving her from the Catholics who have sided with Enrico and tells them good news (scene here: //youtu.be/PY2msoZw2y4), we see that Walter has joined the Nazis and is now young again (oh Walter why man you were so cool. How could you betray us like this man? Seriously this shocked me. Walter was so loyal to Integra and he was one of the only humans who Alucard seemed to legitimately like. Are you seriously telling me Walter that you want Alucard this badass god among us as your enemy? You’re crazy), and Alucard has finally showed up (scene here: //youtu.be/KSoFqgbb6Rw, hey, it’s been a good three episodes Alucard. How about a massive killing spree for old time’s sake?). In order to give Alucard a greater edge and make everyone piss and shit their pants Integra allows Alucard to release his Level 0 form (scene here: //youtu.be/YODvtc7-qk8, man if this is Level 0 what happens at Level 1? (Seras): Oh Level 1 is when Alucard consumes the entire world and turns back time to the beginning just so he can kill everyone all over again only in a different more sadistic way. It’s like when Joker became a god and killed Batman only to bring him back to life and kill him again). So Alucard begins killing God knows how many Nazis, crusaders, and whatnot and even manages to kill Enrico with the help of Anderson (scene here: //youtu.be/MGnUtx2bfZ8, very nice fandub). With Enrico dead Anderson orders all of the paladins to return to the Vatican and protect the Pope while he stays behind to fight Alucard because he figured out what the Major was aiming for this whole time. To get Integra to release Alucard’s level 0 where he releases all of his demonic powers and all the souls that he has consumed over the years leaving him with no more infinite lives and instead bringing him down to one life (in short, this is the best time to kill Alucard). After killing everyone Alucard goes to meet Integra and Seras where we get in my opinion the cutest scene between Alucard and Seras (scene here: https://youtu.be/0F15nk6oGh4, this is so adorable it’s like a little girl seeing her father after so long). But the moment gets ruined by Anderson (damn it Anderson read the mood) who decides it’s time to kill Alucard (scene here: //youtu.be/gdzlOO4VwG0, so in the end the only way to beat Alucard is to cheat).

In episode 9 as Alucard is dying he begins to remember his past as the human Vlad Tepes aka Vlad the Impaler (said to be one of the evilest people to walk the Earth. Scene here: //youtu.be/IqcF5OIsqFw). As Anderson tries to pierce Alucard with one final strike Seras comes to protect him and calls out to him which gives him the power he needs to fight back (scene here: //youtu.be/no2tz2rAZJ0, man, he ripped his heart out and squashed it. That’s like a Level S on brutality). As Anderson is dying the two give their final respects to each other and we see who these two men really are (scene here: //youtu.be/LIqkFy6OyHk, amen. Well that was a nice moment of peace now let’s see some more killing). Walter shows up and takes one of the Iscariot soldiers out saying that he’s betraying Integra and the shocking news of all of this is it’s his own free will. He wasn’t brainwashed or tricked he sided with them from the beginning, Walter has always been on the enemy’s side (I still want him as my butler). Fighting through her emotions Integra gives Alucard the order to kill him which makes the Major so happy that he finally sees Integra as his rival and invites her along with Seras aboard his airship to face him while Alucard and Walter have their battle which pretty much takes up the rest of the episode (scene here: //youtu.be/pEwPN2cdQFU, Good God he’s a woman now? He looks like Ai Enma after puberty).

In the final episode we open up with Alucard still fighting Walter (scene here: //youtu.be/pYJwf1OICRo, I’m sorry but I can’t take Alucard seriously anymore when he has that voice coming out of that body). Back on Integra and Seras’ part they kill all the Nazis, Seras takes on the Captain who is actually a werewolf (scene here: //youtu.be/fNdTmJHMEqg), and Integra reaches the Major who is being protected by a glass wall which deflects bullets (quick go grab one of Anderson’s bayonets). The Major turns the screen on to show Integra Alucard’s death (ha, you can’t kill badassness, you can only hope to achieve it). Through a somewhat confusing method, as Alucard is absorbing all the blood of the victims around them Schrödinger kills himself (or herself still confuse on the gender) and allows his (her) body to get absorbed by Alucard. The Major goes on to explain that because of Schrödinger omnipresence power as long as Schrödinger is self-aware he’ll (she’ll) continue to live but because the millions of souls being absorbed by Alucard negate Schrödinger’s existence/awareness this negation spreads to Alucard which forces him to disappear (//youtu.be/2-WPlvZguZ4, like I said it’s confusing and hard to explain but here’s the scene: //youtu.be/9gKdI56yXBY, man that look of shock on Alucard’s face is something else). After Alucard vanishes Integra is mighty pissed off and wants to kill the Major and with Seras arriving at her side it’s possible (scene here: //youtu.be/o8C9jJNif0A, man even when the guy isn’t human he still puts up the argument that he’s human, that guy is something else I tell you). After Walter gets attacked by Heinkel he makes it back to the airship wounded and confronts the doctor where he kills him and dies as well (scene here: //youtu.be/XwqK1rUXil4, at least he didn’t die like no bitch). After sensing Walter’s death (I sense a great disturbance in the force) Integra tells Seras to take them home and they escape the exploding airship just before it explodes. We then fast forward to 30 years where Integra is still in charge of Hellsing after losing one eye (and aging quite nicely) with Seras by her side, both London and Iscariot still feeling the losses of that faithful night and being in a weak state, and we end with Alucard returning (for the last 30 years he was killing all the souls inside of him until one remained which I assume is Schrödinger. He must have been taking his time killing them because the Alucard I know would have killed them all in 5 minutes) to Integra’s side and drinking her blood to show he’s still loyal to her.

Final Thoughts

So that was Hellsing Ultimate and by God is it great. This is a true vampire anime. It’s violent, gory, action-packed, funny, deep, dark, scary, and such a joy to watch. Each character is great and well written. Alucard is awesome, he’s a sophisticated but scary and dangerous vampire who will kill anyone anything in his path and best part is he enjoys it he enjoys destroying those in front of him. He not only destroys them but he plays with them and has them realize how insignificant and weak they are. And that’s what makes him such a great vampire in fact that’s what I wish all vampires were right. He knows he’s not a hero nor does he try to be one he knows in his heart that he is a monster a monster who is sick and twisted. There’s not much to Integra’s personality other than the fact that she’s Alucard’s boss and isn’t afraid to stand up to anyone or anything. She’s a strong woman who’s not afraid to put her foot down and show everyone that she’s the boss. Seras is probably my favorite character out this entire anime. I like her happy go lucky attitude even though through a majority of her life she’s felt pain and lost but still has a bright and cheerful attitude. Even when she becomes a true vampire she still maintains that happy and bright attitude that you can’t help but fall in love with. The Major is great. He’s one of the greatest anime villains out there and one of the evilest anime characters ever. The guy is just messed up, he’s like a happy jolly fat version of Hitler who’s more sick and deranged. He’s basically a monster a monster who makes the argument that he’s a human when really he’s not. A lot of the other characters are great too. Pip was pretty cool and I did like the small romance he and Seras had but I think deep down she was more in love with Alucard. Anderson was great, he gives off this Frankenstein vibe but at the same time he’s a holy man who does his job right, respects his enemies, and he even fights to the very end with honor and determination which even earns him the respect of Alucard. Walter was cool as well although I wished they gave us a bit more of an explanation as to why he betrayed Integra.

The animation is high quality and consistent. It’s hard to believe this series was done by three different studios. The animation is high quality from beginning to end with facial expressions, movements, shadows, and angles executed beautifully. Even the fight scenes maintain that high quality and the fights are brutal, gory, and bloody with at least someone dying in each fight in an over the top way but still looking good so the action will not disappoint you. Music is good and fits with the series providing us tracks that are heavily choir based that fit the gothic and dark mood the anime is making. Even the German songs are enjoyable. I don’t normally listen German music but I really did like the German songs that were sung in the anime. If there was really a complaint with the series I would have to say that character development is almost non-existent but it really didn’t bother me all that much because the characters were already flushed out already and they do show the backstory of a couple of characters which were interesting and gave us insight into who these characters are. Another complaint I’ve heard fans talk about is the rushed out philosophy of humans and monsters in an effort to give the second half of the series some substance. Yeah, I have to admit it was rushed out but at same time I found it quite interesting and something that could have been introduced better and earlier into the series like asking the viewer who’s more of a monster Alucard the one who knows he’s a monster but has traces of human emotions in him, Anderson the holy man who is slowly becoming a monster in his attempt to protect the world, or The Major who makes the argument that he’s human when really he’s just an insane monster who wants to see blood?

Final Score

The final score for Hellsing Ultimate is a 9/10 with a must watch stamp of approval. If you think this anime is gonna be like Blood+ or Vampire Hunter than you are incredibly wrong my friend. This anime is the true definition of a vampire horror anime. It’s got gore, violence, Nazis, religion, vampires, you name it they got it and it’s one of the best animated series out there. If you like vampires and wanna see an anime that shows vampires for what they truly are than check this anime out you won’t be disappointed. You’ll come for the story but you’ll stay for the action, violence, and gore. Thanks for reading, I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj and tune in this Friday for the Halloween Special. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA- *A plastic ball rolls by Nitsuj’s desk*. What the *Nitsuj picks up the ball and all of a sudden the cyber wolves come rushing out trying to get the ball where they pounce on Nitsuj and trample him on the ground until the ball escapes his hand and goes rolling into the hallway*. I. . .hate. . .this month *Nitsuj faints*.
