The Expendables (Female edition)

Hey guys, Justin here and welcome to an another edition of the Otaku Mind. Most of you might remember a few years back a made an Expendables team using some of the greatest male characters in anime. It was one of the first Otaku Minds and one of my favorite. But what about the female characters? Are there enough female characters to make an Expendables team? Hell yeah! You bet your ass there’s enough females to make an Expendables team. Over the years anime has given us women who are not only beautiful but strong, smart, and worthy of our respect. So, in honor of the Badass Women arc I’m going to make an Expendables team using all females. The same rules as the first team still apply. One character a series. Alright, let’s begin.

The Team

Erza from Fairy Tail

If we’re talking about strong, beautiful, and women you don’t want to mess with Erza is probably the first person that comes to mind. Time and time again Erza has stepped up for the team and proven why she’s the strongest female in Fairy Tail and possibly the strongest female in the series. I mean just look at what she’s done, who she’s faced, who she’s beaten and you’ll see why she deserves to be on this team. With her excellent sword skills, equip armor magic that gives her an armor for just about every situation, and unwavering courage when facing the impossible odds you have to be mad not to put her on this team.

Rias from Highschool DxD

Now that we got a good sword fighter how about a good mage fighter? Why not Rias the crimson beauty from Highschool DxD and a devil with serious magic power. Her demonic power is said to be one of the best out of the young devils and she’s no slouch on battlefield being able to take on three high level fallen angels at the same time and destroy them with ease. On top of that she’s a brilliant tactician. While she’s been outsmarted a few times in the series Rias has proven to be an intelligent person who maintains who cool on the battlefield and can handle the unexpected calmly and without any difficulties.

Robin from One Piece

It was very tough deciding between Robin and Hancock but I decided to go with Robin mostly because we’re gonna have plenty of fighters on this list so we need someone who’s good at analyzing and figuring out stuff and that’s Robin. While it’s true that Robin has had her share of fights you can clearly tell that fighting isn’t really her specialty. Robin has even said herself that her specialty is assassination meaning she enjoys catching her opponents off guard and finishing them off before they can do anything. Once an assassin’s cover has been blown they’re pretty much screwed. Unless you’re a part of the Brotherhood, then you’re all good. But in Robin’s case, she isn’t. She prefers doing spy work, gathering and analyzing data to help the team out which is what all teams need. With her great knowledge and calm personality (seriously, I’ve only seen her have a shock expression once throughout the series) Robin might just be the most level-headed person on the team meaning in case members start to fight with each other or need someone to talk to you can always count on Robin to be there to bring order to the fight and give the other women someone to lean on and feel open with.

Yoko from Gurren Lagann

Now that we’ve got our swordswoman, mage, and analyzer we need a gunwoman. That’s where my girl Yoko comes in. Once again this was a tough choice as it came down to her or Sinon from SAO and I decided to go with Yoko. While Sinon is a good gunwoman with a much more realistic gun and shooting style her skills are limited to that of the game which actually gives her assistance. In real life she shows no signs of possessing great marksmanship and while she may have gotten over her fear of guns I doubt she’s the kind of person who be willing to pick up a gun and take another man’s life. While it’s true she killed a man at a very young age that man was at point blank range so it was nearly impossible for her to miss and it was a fight for survival. Yoko on the other hand does possess excellent marksmanship in real life and has taken down large mechs with her skills as well as sniped shot a planet if I remember correctly. Yes, her fighting style and gun may not be plausible in the real world but hey we’re making an anime, nothing has to be plausible, it just has to look cool and badass and people will love it.

Akame from Akame ga Kill

When it comes to assassination nobody is more skilled and performs her job flawlessly than Akame. Not only does she maintain a cool and calm demeanor on the field of battle but her sword can kill anyone with just one slash. Instant death, no coming back. Another thing is she’s a team player. We see her develop a close bond with the people around her and would gladly risk her life to save her comrades proving that despite not letting her emotions show, Akame is a character you can rely on in battle to have your back and someone who’ll step up and give you the big win.

Rem from Re:Zero

One of the newest anime characters on this list and one who rightfully deserves to be here. Cute, loyal, obedient, strong, and fearless for the person she loves Rem comes complete with proficient close quarter comeback skills and magic abilities to launch mid-range attacks. She can fight for over long periods of time, take out a hoard of ferocious beast, fight giant whales without so much as flinching, and have her body contorted in a number of ways but still somehow manage to survive for just enough time to free the person she loves. She is someone who can dish out punishment as well as handle it. I gladly fight beside her anyday.

Tsunade from Naruto

With all these strong fighters on the team we need someone who can heal them whenever they get injured so who better to heal them than Tsunade the greatest medical ninja ever and just an all-around fun person to hang out with. Tsunade’s medical skills are second to none and nothing to belittle. She once healed Rock Lee a ninja who was said would never be able to fight again due to serious injuries yet she made the impossible possible. Another factor that makes a valuable member on the team is her superhuman strength. It’s well documented that healers have low defense and terrible combat skills. Well Tsunade is one of the few healers who proves that statement wrong and shows us that not only can she heal broken bones, but she can break them as well.

Ryuko from Kill la Kill

Probably the most inexperience of everyone on the team as well as the most hotheaded one you cannot deny that Ryuko displayed a natural ability of fighting as well as a great tenacity to think on her feet in the heat of battle and her fearless will when going up against foes. Inexperience and hotheaded yes, but at same time courageous and strong-willed out of everyone on the team who keeps on fighting and never backing down. Ryuko is definitely the fighting spirit incarnated on this team.

Seras from Hellsing Ultimate

When you’re forming a team you need a strong tank fighter. Someone who can take a lot of damage but also deliver damage as well. Who better than a vampire? Along with having the powers of a vampire making her nearly immortal, having a talent for using high power weaponry, and having one of the cutest personalities of all time, Seras is that one vampire you want going into battle with you. Her credentials for joining this team? Geez I don’t know, shooting down a zeppelin full of Nazi vampires, beating a Nazi vampire general all by herself as well as a Nazi werewolf, and being chosen as a servant/apprentice by Alucard himself arguably the most badass anime character of all time. Yes, out of everyone in the world Alucard looked at Seras and picked her to be his servant/apprentice. The Harley Quinn to his Joker so to speak. If you were handpicked by Alucard himself, you know you’re all that.

Medaka from Medaka Box

If there is such a thing as perfection in this world than Medaka comes the closest to meeting it. Gifted with not only beauty and intelligence Medaka has a number of abilities at her disposal. She can learn and master anything within seconds just by seeing it once, has superhuman physiology, combat expert, great leadership skills and a master of persuasion (the list goes on). While Medaka may look like any other high school girl, she possesses god-like strength and speed. To name a few of her feats she once destroyed a building while being restrained by wires, rescued three of her classmates from an explosion at the last second, and was pierced through the chest by a large and long screw yet still managed to survive and win the fight. On top of that she has what she likes to call god mode a mode that grants her amazing strength and only serves to make her stronger and more dangerous. The god mode has various forms but no matter what form it is Medaka will still kick your ass. Medaka is definitely the most overpowered character on this list and with all her credentials I can think of no one better to be the leader of this team.

Mikasa from Attack on Titan

Cold, merciless, and unemotional. Mikasa serves perfectly as the team’s intimidator with relentless persistence and natural fighting skills that put her ahead of just about everyone she comes in contact with. She faces giants on a daily basis and lives in the constant fear of knowing that those giants could slaughter humanity anytime they wanted. Yet despite all of this she continues to live and fight in a world that’s seems pretty much impossible to live in. Out of all the women on this list Mikasa is by far the most fearless of them all and the one character who will inspire the others to fight when all hope seems lost.

Morgiana from Magi

While probably the one character on the team with the least amount of skills she’s honestly the strongest character of the bunch. Unlike everyone else on the team who rely on magic, technology, guns, chakra and special abilities, Morgiana simply relies on her own natural strength and skills to win her fights. While it’s true she has an ability to use magic she never uses it in battle and only uses it on rare occasions (last I checked she’s only used it twice and both of those times were to save her friends). With just her feet alone she can break concrete ground just by stomping, take out an entire pack of poisonous sabretooth tigers with just her feet, jump incredible heights as well as land perfectly safe, and her kicks are strong enough to kick through a giant mutated monkey in one shot (that, is power). She also has a battle cry which breaks the sound barrier and has incredible strength that easily allows her to pick up her friends and toss them in the air like nothing. While Morgiana may not have the abilities of anyone else on the team her natural strength alone makes her a force to be reckon with and it’s all she needs to win her battles.

Rory from Gate

She is a demigod of war who gets pleasure out of killing her foes on the battlefield. Being a demigod for over 700 hundred years, Rory is practically immortal as nothing seems to kill her. Even when she got mauled by a minotaur in the manga she survived and was up and running the next day like the whole thing never happened. She is wise, outspoken, and not afraid to speak what’s on her mind as well as striking fear into her opponents and catching them off guard with her looks.

Yami from To Love Ru

She’s a living weapon. She can transform any part of her party into a weapon of her choosing. On top of that she’s proven on multiple occasions to be the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy being able to take on anyone and win her fights while keeping others safe in the process. Despite her seemingly young age Yami appears to be most experienced when it comes to fighting as she was practically born to fight. Yet despite this we all know that deep down she’s still a living creature and longs for companionship even if she herself is too stubborn to admit it and I think with all these great characters around her I’m pretty sure Yami will come to see them as sisters and mother figures she can come to care about and show her that she doesn’t have to be alone in the galaxy.

Renamon from Digimon

This next one might be a little controversial seeing as how according to Renamon digimon really don’t have genders. Okay, I can buy into that a little, however, digimon have characteristics and personalities you would associate with a male or female and Renamon is no exception. She has the voice of female, the slender body of one, and the hips of one as well. Oh those hips keep going 24/7. Whoops sorry, that was the Jack Bros. right there. Anyway, for the sake of this blog I’m going to say that Renamon is a female and a damn good fighter. While most rookie level digimon have childlike personalities Renamon is the only rookie level digimon I’ve seen display the personality you would expect to see from a mature woman. Renamon is very mature and smart for a rookie level digimon and has even gone up and defeated champion level digimon single handedly proving that out of all the rookie level digimon she’s the strongest (excluding Lucemon but that’s cheating). Renamon relies heavily on her speed and agility to out maneuver her opponents but at the same time no slouch when it comes to combat. Along with this she’s very stealthy. She can hide her presence anytime she wants like a ninja making her great for infiltration missions and she’s cooperative having the patience and discipline to work with just about anyone and stay loyal to them no matter what they say or do to her. Plus, if the situation calls for it she can digivolve to her champion, ultimate, or mega form where she gets a power boast along with more powerful skills both offense and defense. In the end Renamon is an all-around character who can fight, infiltrate, provide support, or heal making her a valuable asset to the team.

Matsu from Sekirei

And the final member for this team is Matsu. While not much of a fighter Matsu is handy when it comes to computers and technology. Along with Robin, Matsu can serve as the team’s strategist and tech girl providing support from behind the scenes as well hacking into enemy programs and taking control of their weapons or machines to launch attacks. She’s a perverted woman and a little crazy but in a group like this I think she fits right in no problem.

The Villain

Now with the team all set to go all that leaves is the villain and I think it all comes down to three women who would be perfect for this team to face. The first would be Ragyou from Kill la Kill. She has no remorse for human life, infused with life fibers, and wants to use them to conquer the galaxy. On top of that she’s crazy and has a whole army of life fiber aliens at her disposal so she be perfect for the group to face. Along with Ragyou we have Medusa the witch from Soul Eater. Together with Ragyou these form the worst moms in the history of anime. Medusa is manipulative, clever, strong, and cunning. With just one snake she was able to control the course of a battle between the forces of DWMA and Arachnophobia, tricked DWMA in taking out her sister just so she could get a new body, unleashed the keshin in the world under Shinagami’s watch, and was able to go toe to toe with Stein said to be the strongest meister in the series. Even when he had a death scythe he barely managed to defeat Medusa and was only able to kill her when she dropped her guard which she did on purpose. I can totally see Medusa using Ragyou as a pawn in her plans to get what she wants. The final person is Esdeath from Akame ga Kill. She is a war maniac who would easily see through Medusa’s plan but wouldn’t care. As long as she gets to fight she’s happy and that’s exactly what Medusa can give her. A place to fight against the strongest and smartest females in anime and a chance to beat them all.

Animation Studio

I would like to see this series done by Madhouse of course. If not them Bones is also a good studio. I’ve been impressed with their work recently. Also, MAPPA is great as well. So far I’ve only watched 3 of their animes. One being Terror in Resonance and the other 2 I’m not gonna say because I’m actually planning on writing a review for one of them sometime in the future and I might do the other one, I’m still on the fence about it. If you think hard enough and know me it shouldn’t be that hard to figure out which animes I’m talking about.

And that’s my female anime version of the Expendables. Did I leave anyone out, let me know or if you can think of a better villain or studio to make this special let me know as well. I love hearing from you guys. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.

Thanks for reading. As always feel free to leave a comment in the comment section or send your comments, feedback, or request to iamprojectnitsuj@gmail.com
