The Top 11 Miku Hatsune Songs

Hey guys Justin here welcome to another edition of the Otaku Corner. Today, we’re celebrating the birthday of the #1 Virtual Idol in the world Miku Hatsune. It’s pretty funny how she and I were born one day apart from each other (I was born on September 1st) but at the same time it’s a huge honor to have a birthday close to a celebrity. For years Miku and the other vocaloids have bought us great music, memories, and concerts so today I’m going to celebrate her birthday by naming my top 11 Miku Hatsune songs. Why top 11? Because even when I’m not in character I still like to go one step beyond. This was a pretty tough list to make, there are a lot of Miku songs out there and you could honestly make the argument why any of other songs deserve to be on the list and number one but this is my opinion so you’ll just have to deal with it. I also won’t be doing duet or group songs, I’m just looking at songs where she’s the sole singer and no one else. So sit back and enjoy. These are the top 11 Miku Hatsune songs.
#11. Paris Movie Girl

https://youtu.be/3DqI2uxqKEs

This is one of the newer Miku songs to come out and it’s a very cute and likable song. I get the impression that Miku is sort of actress/model in France and is just enjoying a relaxing day off while also imagining dating a boy she likes. Like I said before the song is just cute to listen to. Everything in this song is just cute. This is Miku’s soft or sweet voice and she just sounds so life-like here. The way she says bonjour is just so adorable. It’s amazing how her technology and voicebank has improved over the years I’m always amazed at how far the Vocaloids have come since they first appeared. Her movements and facial expressions are also great in this video as if she were alive and real though I do have to admit it is a little weird seeing the whole city empty. Nothing much to say about this song. It’s just a really cute song that I enjoy listening to and you should listen to it to.

#10. Absolunote

https://youtu.be/5fpEpIs3yF4

This. . .is an odd song, and I mean that in a good way. Besides Miku sounding incredibly good hear the melody and key change is done fantastically here. The song starts off slow and majestic but then gets quick and energetic and keeps going back and forth. I like to think that the message of this song is matter how hard or hectic life gets, Miku will keep singing to make herself feel better and not herself know that matter what the world throws at her, she can handle it.

#9. Honey Sweet

https://youtu.be/ZBpb8cX6GUg

Here’s a fun fact about me you may not know, I’m a fan of jazz music. I love jazz especially the upbeat catchy tempo songs and this song is nothing but upbeat and catchy to listen to. Once again this is a song I can’t find a translation for so I’m left to interrupt the song from the pictures alone. My guess is this song is Miku comparing herself to a queen bee and how her love is as sweet and tasty as her honey that you’ve become a slave to it as well as her. Again, shooting in the dark here but that’s what I’m getting from it. Anyway, I love how the song and Miku play off each other. Miku will sing a part be quiet and the instruments will work off that verse and the process repeats itself throughout the song creating an amazing and catchy song with a great singer and an amazing beat to go along with it. This is definitely one of Miku’s lesser known songs that deserves to be heard. It’s good, catchy, and it’s a song where everything works off each other so well. If you’re into jazz music definitely check it out.

#8. World Is Mine

https://youtu.be/O17f3lB7BFY

Probably the most well-known out of all of Miku’s song. World is Mine can be seen as Miku’s main character song or her calling card to the world. The song is basically Miku proclaiming to everyone in the world that she’s the world’s number 1 princess and you should take notice of her. The song does a good job of not sounding too mean spirited or making Miku a tsundere. She’s just basically saying hey world check me out, I got a song and I want you to hear it. And sure enough she grabs your attention. The song is loud, fast (but not too fast where you get lost), confident, and in-control which is why it’s so fun to listen to. Whenever she sings this song we sense that high level of aura that just draws us towards her and makes us cheer for her. A lot of people think this song is overplayed but in my opinion it’s a song that perfectly captures Miku and is her perfect calling card to the world to come and check her out.

#7. Pouty Waltz

https://youtu.be/ievCJx9Lsso

https://youtu.be/NkxlMkyMwr8 (acapella version)

Oster Project has always been known for making cute and catchy songs and this is no exception. In this song Miku is mad and pouty about it. But as the song progresses we start to see how she’s not mad anymore and wants to make-up but is being all tsundere. The song is cute, I like the melody, and especially like the accordion in the background. I don’t know why but for some reason I think of France whenever I hear it. Great song, cute song, and just an enjoyable song to listen to and hum.

#6. Sound Design

https://youtu.be/fQIxVsthLc0

Once again we’re entering jazz territory only this time it’s a sad song about one’s loneliness but at the same it’s still a beautiful song to listen to especially when it’s raining outside it fits the mood perfectly. Besides Miku’s amazing singing the piano is amazing as well. I love it when songs put the piano at the center of it all. The piano in this song just makes the whole song come together. Another thing I like about this song is that you can see the music notes at the bottom of the screen so you can play along with the song if you have a flute or other wind instrument. I’m not sure if it’ll work on brass instruments but I say give it try. Sound Design might be a sad song but it’s a song that I really enjoy listening to and on raining days it cheers me up.

#5. Uninstall

https://youtu.be/wuCG3aqQzS0

Jazzy/funk version of Uninstall which is slower and a lot sadder. This version of the song sounds a little more upbeat and energetic which I enjoy a lot. The feel and tone gives off that spy feel, I feel as if I’m in a spy movie with Miku whenever I listen to this song. I’m a spy and Miku is another who is beautiful and I have to decide if I trust her or not. Miku sounds great here, the music is great to listen to as well, and you get swept in whenever you hear it. If there was ever a reason to like jazz then let this song be it.

#4. Lucid Dreaming

https://youtu.be/_zZb7L28AqM

The beat in this song is unstoppable. For those of you who don’t know what lucid dreaming is, lucid dreaming is when a person is fully aware that they are dreaming and as a result can control what happens in said dream (or in my case just stop everything and wake up). When I first heard this song I was very confused about the meaning of it due to the complicated lyrics but after listening to other people I started to get what the song was about. Being restless in a world where we have little or no control in it and rather then face that reality escape to a world where we have complete control over it only to wake up and realize that we have to face that world and accept whatever it throws at us. That’s the interpretation I get from the song and it’s one I enjoy. Like I said before the beat in this song is just unstopable, it goes so well with Miku’s singing that as soon as you hear this song you’ll be addicted to it. I also like Project Diva video for this song, it’s very creative and just makes want to go visit Italy which I do plan to do one day in my life.

#3. House of Songs

https://youtu.be/buRFjDSIu4o

Good God this is a match made in Heaven. Like seriously, my two favorite Vocaloid producers come together and create a Miku song. Dreams do come true. This is the newest Miku song on the list, coming out just this year on January 6th and boy was it good. The whole song just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside as it takes you on a journey down memory lane. Whenever I listen to this song I’m reminded of the first time I heard Miku sing and enjoyed her voice only to find more songs and enjoy them as well. Then I stopped listen for a bit only to come back and enjoy her music even more. This song combines the tuning of Mitchie who always makes Miku sound real along Oster Project’s unique sound. Combine these two together and you one amazing song.

#2. Meteor

https://youtu.be/xR8pFWdCwt0 (long version)

https://youtu.be/6kDmnhe80SY (short version)

You all knew this song was coming. When it comes to beautiful songs this song is the one Miku song everyone talks about. Whenever I listen to this song I just close my eyes and let the song take me on a journey through the universe. The lyrics to this song are beautiful. The creator of this song said he changed the lyrics to this song after the earthquake that occurred in the Tohoku and Kanto area in 2011. So it’s possible the song is conveying the prayer of a little child who has just heard about the event and is praying for the safety of everyone or it’s possible that the child was involved in the earthquake miraculously survived and is singing about what she experienced when the earthquake hit and is now praying for the safety of everyone. That’s the kind of message I get from this song. But the one thing you can’t deny is that this song takes you on a journey, I like how it starts off nice and slow but then as the song progresses it becomes faster, louder, and Miku’s voice continues to grow more powerful as if to say that more people around the world are coming together and praying for the safety of survivors in the earthquake. This is probably the longest vocaloid song I’ve listened to. I usually don’t like it when a song is more than 5 minutes long because I feel it drags out too long but this manages to keep my attention all the way to the end. That’s quite an achievement. This song also has the best music video from the Project Diva game. It’s beautiful, well-animated, and conveys the feelings of the song perfectly. What else can I say? This song is amazing.

And the number one Miku Hatsune song is. . .

#1. Odds and Ends

https://youtu.be/dGNoCICGmo0

https://youtu.be/Y1qm5w7H7Ts

Where do I begin with this song? The concept, the music, the voice, the performances, the message they’re all good. This song is just so inspirational to listen to. Nobody has bad-mouthed this song. If anything some people have actually admitted that this song describes their life a little. Going through a tough time and having the door slammed in front of their face multiple times and just feeling sad. I can sympathize with that, when I got out of college I had a lot of doors shut in my face saying I’m not good enough. Even when I started Project Nitsuj I was scared that people were gonna say my blogs aren’t good enough. But this song gave me the inspiration to take that next step and never give up on myself or my dreams. The song summarizes Ryo’s relationship with Miku. Ryo was one of the first artist who actually started using Miku and got famous because of it. It was as if Miku was saying: you have great talent so let me be your voice. I’ll carry all your feelings and make your wishes a reality. And she did it, she help make Ryo get his name out there. But as time went on he left Miku to start his own band and cut ties with her even going as far as posting on twitter that he would never make another song using a mechanical voice. As more time passed he started to remember what got him this far in his life and decided to create one final Miku song apologizing to her, her fans, and just thanking her for getting him through the tough times in his life and being there for him when no one else was. In a way Ryo is writing this song not only for those who are considered outcasts by society but also for himself.

Miku just sounds so real in this song and whenever she performs this song live she blows the audience away. I mean it, in all the concerts I’ve seen her sing this song she just keeps getting better and better and more real each time she sings it. Yes, Miku and the is a virtual girl but to us her fans she is more than that. She is a real girl who becomes the voice of people who can’t sing. She is the person who will never mock us, make fun of us, or ever say we’re worthless. She is the person who accepts us for who we are and is always there to bring a smile to our face and show us the potential of what we as a human society can do. It is because of all these things I consider this song to be Miku’s number one song.

Well that’s my list. I hope you enjoy. There’s definitely a lot of songs I missed but you can find plenty of Miku songs on Youtube. Once again happy birthday Miku, thanks for the great music, and here’s to more great years to come: https://youtu.be/rmYU2ikxjpA. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.
