(Nitsuj): Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. We continue our look at season 6 of MHA for My Hero Summeria. Last time, we saw the heroes initiate an attack on the villains to defeat them once and for all. The plan backfired and Shigaraki took center-staged and defeated not only Endeavor but Izuku, Katsuki, and a returning Best Jeanist and Mirio is enough to turn the tides of war.
(Shizuku): Speaking of Endeavor, we found out that Dabi is his firstborn son he thought was dead but now back for revenge against his family.
(Nitsuj): In the end, the heroes were defeated with many injured, missing, or dead. How will the heroes bounce back from this defeat and what will be society’s reaction to it. Let’s find out.
Episodes 14-17
(Shizuku): So the second half begins with most of the episode being a recap of what we saw in the first half. However, they do a good job showing the aftermath of everything. They acknowledge that a lot of heroes have been killed including Midnight of all characters. Some heroes have given up hope and think about quitting (Nitsuj: Which is understandable. They’ve never had to face a crisis like this before in their lives. For the first time ever the heroes have been truly defeated. How do you face this kind of despair and deal with the backlash of the public at the same time). Normal citizens are questioning Endeavor after the Dabi reveal and losing faith in heroes. As all of this is going on All for One gets ready to make his next move which is liberating his true form.
Things continue to go bad for worse in episode 15. In the first half All for One continues to take control of Shigaraki’s body and uses that to destroy Tartarus. Not only does he free himself, but he frees everyone imprisoned inside (scene here: https://youtu.be/lm_LAd56JHI?si=dArMYGtEJs02NETX. (Nitsuj): The villain society has begun). In the second half we continue to see the aftermath of the battle by going to the hospital and seeing the injuries everyone sustained, the public upset with Endeavor (Nitsuj: Domestic abuse will do that to you), and Izuku has gone into a comatose state (and is pretty banged up as well).
Episode 16 starts by giving us the backstory of Hawks. As a kid, Hawks lived with his abusive dad and neglectful mom. Hawks’s dad killed a man over a petty crime and ran away with his mom hiding him. Every day Hawks was beaten by his dad with the only thing stopping him from going insane was watching heroes on television. He believed that if he just held out things will get better and they did. His dad got arrested by Endeavor (Nitsuj: Of all people) and his mom fearing for her life fled with him. However, she was a broken woman at this point and couldn’t provide for Hawks let alone herself. Hawks decided to do the right thing and turned himself and his mother in. Once the government caught wind of Hawks’s quirk they took him in and began training him to be a hero. Returning to the present the hero society continues to crumble. People are losing faith in heroes, villains are running freely, and people are taking up arms fighting for themselves resulting in a lot of injuries. Meanwhile, Endeavor receives a visit from his family including his wife, Rei (time for a much-needed family talk. (Nitsuj): This family needs therapy. I know things are serious right now, but I think we all needed this).
We explore the past of the Shoto’s family in episode 17. We see how Endeavor and Rei had an arranged marriage. Rei’s family was once a prestigious family, but fell on hard times (Nitsuj: That’s what you get from putting all your stock in cryptocurrency). Desperate to get back on top, they offer Rei to Endeavor knowing full well what his goals were. During Toya’s youth he was determined to surpass All Might. He knew that was the reason he was born and he was going to surpass him no matter what. The only problem was his quirk. It leaned more towards the fireside (Endeavor got those dominant genes). Because of this, his flame was way stronger than Endeavor’s flame and his body would get burnt whenever he used it. Endeavor saw this and ordered Toya to stop using his quirk and find a life outside of heroes, but he wouldn’t listen. He would practice his quirk in secret and became obsessed with surpassing All Might (Nitsuj: Slowly losing his mind in the process). Eventually, his flames turned blue to show off his burning obsession and after he supposedly burned himself to death Rei finally broke mentally. Returning to the present the whole family doesn’t blame Endeavor for what happened to Toya (I kind of do). They each admit their fault in contributing to Dabi’s creation and tell Endeavor to rise up and stop their son (Nitsuj: You created this fire now put it out before it burns the world to the ground). Hawks and Best Jeanist come in to encourage Endeavor as well as talk about One for All (and All for One).
Episodes 18-21
For most of episode 18 we see Izuku speak with the past users of One for All (the council is in session). It’s get revealed that Izuku will possibly be the last user of One for All. Why? Because he was quirkless. The past users discovered that passing One for All to people who have quirks was eating away at their life force and causing early deaths (Nitsuj: Too many quirks for the body). However, if One for All is passed to those who are quirkless they can unleash the full power of One for All. Unfortunately, in a society where quirks are becoming common place, it’s almost impossible to find another quirkless human in the world. Hawks and Best Jeanist ask All Might about One for All and he decides to tell them everything. Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist face the media where they announce they’re moving people into shelters for their own protection, Endeavor reveals his family’s dark history, and how he plans to keep on fighting (there’s also this bitch reporter complaining about her mom’s injuries and houses being damaged. (Nitsuj): Bitch, if you think you can do a better job be my guest. People died protecting your ass). The episode wraps up with April arriving and Izuku leaving U.A to protect his friends and family (scene here: https://youtu.be/GbvOVJ48Cfc?si=BtsqReGYR53Y8GmS).
(Nitsuj): The dark hero arc begins in episode 19 as Izuku has teamed up with All Might, Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist to take on the villains. Izuku has gone vigilante on us (Shizuku: Where his costume looks badass now) and is taking on villains by himself while also unlocking more quirks from the previous One for All users (which is cool, I like how he’s using these other quirks in battle now). We see him show off his skills as he takes on the villain Muscular and beats him with only 45% of his power (scene here: https://youtu.be/zKFdBKfZ1wY?si=7XMmMPPxUvoJaJxL).
In episode 20 Izuku takes on Nagant, a former pro hero who served under the Commission and was Hawks senpai back in the day. Her quirk is turning her hair into bullets (Shizuku: Ow) and firing it at people using her arm which acts as a gun to shoot them (Shizuku: Cool). Not only is she a skilled sniper with precision that would make anyone envious, but her quirk allows her to change the shape of the bullets to make them more dangerous and deadly to her target. All for One also gave her a second quirk, air walk, which allows her to walk on her (she might just be the most versatile sniper I’ve ever seen).
The fight between Izuku and Nagant continues in episode 21 (Shizuku: Where the animation goes hard during the action sequence). This fight is pretty good as Izuku manages to use all the quirks from the previous One for All users he’s unlocked so far including the newest one, Fa Jin. This quirk allows Izuku to build up kinetic energy by repeating motions and storing it for later. When he decides to release it, he gains a burst of speed and power (that’s pretty cool). During the fight, we see Nagant’s past where we see she was the Commission’s hitwoman. She would kill in the name of peace all while covering the truth (sort of like Peacemaker). As time went on she came to hate this fake society that the government created and killed the head of the Commission (Shizuku: They of course covered it up his murder. I’m sure it’s what he would have wanted). While Nagant may not like All for One, she says that at least his world is transparent (and dangerous. The Commission may have covered up the truth, but they did in the hopes of keeping the people safe. Do I agree with their methods? No, but they were thinking of the public. All for One just wants to see people suffer. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself and gets rid of anyone he doesn’t want in his new world). While Izuku understands where Nagant is coming from he still wants to keep fighting to become a true hero (Shizuku: If the world has fake heroes then he’ll become a true hero). Izuku manages to close the distance between him and Nagant but she tries to reveal his true colors. She takes a shot at Overhaul whom she helped escaped with (he looks so weird without his mask). In return for helping her find Izuku, she would take him to his boss so he can apologize to him (Shizuku: You need to do more than just apologize to him). She takes a shot at Overhaul where Izuku overcomes the odds and beats the bullet (Shizuku: He pulled a Superman). He then manages to destroy Nagant’s barrel arm (did he just break her arm? I mean, I understand why he did it, but damn). As she falls accepting her defeat and acknowledging Izuku as a true hero she gets saved by Hawks and Endeavor. Just when it looks like they’ll have a good ally on their side, Nagant just explodes randomly because of All for One and needs immediate medical attention (scene here: https://youtu.be/VUZtxSS1-p4?si=OtscuSeCUSxSw9AW). Endeavor captures Overhaul where he begs them to let him see his boss, but only if he apologizes to Eri first (no offense, but I would not let him anywhere near Eri after all the shit he’s done to her). Nagant does tell Izuku a possible location where One for All is and we see his hatred for him slowly rise.
Episodes 22-25
At the start of episode 22 Izuku, Endeavor and a few other heroes go to the location Nagant gave them only to find nothing. Instead, they see a recording of All for One who tells Izuku that he’s done with All Might and is going to focus all of his attention on Izuku (Shizuku: He’s gonna break you, boy). After this, Izuku becomes obsessed with stopping All for One. He continues to take out assassins that come after him and rescue citizens without resting. He even gets to the point where he distances himself from All Might and starts to look like a true anti-hero (that is not a good look for you Izuku). At the point of his exhaustion and about to be overwhelmed by a villain, Izuku gets saved by his classmates. Turns out they weren’t satisfied sitting on the sidelines and watching their friend kill himself because of his hero complex. They stole Endeavor’s GPS and are now going to bring Izuku in whether he likes it or not.
It’s Izuku vs class 1-A in episode 23. It’s a pretty emotional fight as you understand where both sides are coming from. Izuku’s classmates aren’t trying to stop him from going down the path he’s going. They know he’s destined to fight All for One in the future, but they want him to know he doesn’t have to do it alone. He can depend on them to have his back (Shizuku: Don’t be like All Might. Be better than him). Izuku wants to protect the people he cares about. He’s seen so many heroes get hurt by All for One and doesn’t want to see his friends get hurt or risk losing them which is why he’s distancing himself from them (scene here: https://youtu.be/jam1w2mEN6o?si=uCKLUBSTLyzLWd5J). As everyone pours their heart out to Izuku it’s Katsuki who manages to touch the heartstrings by apologizing to Izuku for picking on him. He admits that he was always jealous of Izuku. He was quirkless yet he never accepted feeling weak or hopeless. When they got to UA, Katsuki came face to face with his shortcomings while Izuku grew. Izuku finally opens his eyes and apologizes to everyone before passing out (scene here: https://youtu.be/SQ4oRhtpK9g?si=wvoPEtifmz3JLOf1). When he wakes up he and the others are outside of U.A and a mob of people are stopping them from entering. They’ve heard the stories and know the dangers Izuku brings with him (Shizuku: Get over it!).
Quite the emotional roller coaster in episode 24. Ochaco takes center stage here and gives a hearty speech begging everyone to let Izuku stay and rest (it’s a good speech and really makes you wonder why the hell fans call Ochaco a trash waifu? (Shizuku): Yeah seriously. You want to talk about trash waifu, look at Sakura from Naruto. Spends a majority of the series doing nothing. Falls for a guy she knew nothing about. Said guy tried to kill her. Multiple times. Marries said guy who spends a majority of his time traveling and raises said guy’s daughter by herself. How is Ochaco a trash waifu again?). The speech works as Kota and another civilian are the first to welcome Izuku back and then another civilian speaks up saying they need to stop giving the other heroes who stuck around crap (thank you. In the final episode they do a good job getting everyone hyped for the next season. The episode starts with All Might coming face to face with Stain (he’s back~!). The two have a good conversation where Stain inspires him and even gives him information from Tartarus before taking his leave (scene here: https://youtu.be/3_QPiDqu60k?si=nqRolV7ENghgsMci). The group also finds out that Shigaraki’s transformation will be completed in about a month meaning they have to defeat him and All for One before that time arrives. As the episode comes to a close, we get to meet Star and Stripe the number one superhero from America (fuck yeah~) and All Might’s student who is on her way to Japan to fight (scene here: https://youtu.be/967nRwltUqU?si=IQlU0QEEffJz_XLd. (Shizuku): So America’s number one superhero is a gender swap version of All Might? Shut up and take my money).
Current Thoughts
(Nitsuj): Well guys, this season really did lock in. This season was action-packed from beginning to end and featured one of my favorite moments from the series. Izuku vs his classmates, Katsuki finally being honest with him, and Ochaco’s speech. This season really does show how close all of his classmates are with him and how they all care for each other. They’re not just friends and classmates, they’ve become a second family to each other and they’ll do whatever it takes to protect each other.
(Shizuku): One thing I do like about Izuku is that even at his lowest point, he still wants to protect other people. It really does go to show selfless he is and how he was always meant to be a hero no matter what. While the second half of the anime is where the season earns its praise, we can’t forget the first half as we see the heroes suffer their biggest lost to date. Dabi revealed as Endeavor’s son was predictable thanks to the fan theories, but it still works here. Dabi is the perfect final boss for Endeavor’s redemption arc. He is the consequences of Endeavor’s past actions in physical form. The embodiment of his past ideology that he has to face. Only by defeating him can he as well as his family finally move on.
(Nitsuj): The first half had many surprises, such as the return of Best Jeanist and Mirio but as Shizuku said saw the heroes suffer their biggest lost to date and the backlash is rough. Some heroes quit, others give up, but then you got some are still ready to fight and not give up. It’s inspiring.
(Shizuku): The action for this season is really good. The animators are really showing off here. You can tell everyone working on this project was passionate about it and were putting their all into making this the best anime possible. Season 5 did it’s job as the tune up season and the sixth season came swinging and letting everyone that they’re not playing around anymore. We’re nearing the finish line and we’re going to make a memorable experience.
