Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Happy New Year, everyone! A year has come and gone and here at Project Nitsuj, we’re celebrating 2025 by pointing out their best. In this case, their best anime. 2025 had no shortage of great anime to watch and today I’m counting down my picks for the top 11. I’m Nitsuj and these are the top 11 Anime of 2025.
Honorable Mention: To Your Eternity S3, Kakuriyo S2, The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer In Another World, The 100 Girlfriends Who Really (x5) Like Me S2, Toilet-Bound Haneko-Kun S2, Fire Force S3, Call of the Night S2, Grand Blue S2, I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince S2, Dealing with the Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze, and Digimon Beatbreak. With that out of the way, let’s get to the list:
#11. New Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
It’s the sequel we never thought would come and I couldn’t be happier. Picking up where they left off years ago, we return to Daten City and see our favorite angels and demons causing mayhem and having fun every step of the way. The season introduces us to new characters and does more parodies of western movies than they did in the previous season which are all good and funny. With the way the anime ended there’s possibly going to be a third season. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take too long to come out.
#10. My Dress-Up Darling S2
The second season of everyone’s favorite romcom manga. Marin and Gojo are back with more cosplay designs and romance to keep your attention. Once again the attention to detail to what goes into cosplaying is amazing and makes you respect everyone who is able to do it. The romance between Gojo and Marin continues to grow as we focus more on Marin and how she’s so in love with him that the thought of him rejecting her would cause her to cry. Meanwhile, Gojo is coming out of his shell. Becoming more talkative and expressive with everyone around him and having fun. While it may be slow the journey is entertaining and fun to watch. No doubt a third season will be coming out and it’ll probably be the last.
#9. Lazarus
Watanabe’s newest anime takes us on a suspenseful ride as a suicide squad attempts to save humanity from going extinct. While the first half has a few good moments, it lacked the urgency of the situation. However, they fix that in the second half of the anime as the story ramps up, we learn more about our characters, and suspense builds up to a satisfying end. Did the anime live up to everyone’s hype? No, but it was an enjoyable anime dripping with originality, style and interest. I wouldn’t mind revisiting this world down the line.
#8. Sakamoto Days
Sort of a modern-day version of Rourni Kenshin minus the samurai. When an assassin retires to become a family man and run his own convenience store, his past catches up to him and he has to do everything in his power to work with others and keep his family safe while stopping his past from consuming him. The story is funny, action-packed, and fun to watch while doing a good job building up the threat and giving all of the characters a chance to shine with their skills. While it has a few animation issues, I still enjoyed the anime and look forward to seeing what happens next in this family comedy. Speaking of family comedy-
#7. SpyxFamily S3
The third season of everyone’s favorite fake family. The season delivers on the laughs and action while also giving us a chance to explore the past of some characters and see new interactions unfold with both old and new characters. So far, this is my favorite season from the anime and given the previous seasons that says a lot.
#6. Kaiju No. 8 S2
Shonen Jump’s kaiju battle manga returned with much excitement for a second season. Building off of season 1, we see Kafka and the group go their own separate ways for a bit where they face their own trials and get stronger in the process. The action and kaiju designs are great, the new characters we meet this season are interesting, and the growth of the characters feels natural and right. Everyone gets the right amount of time to shine and grow to face the challenges that are to come. If you liked the first season you’ll definitely like the second season.
#5. MHA Final Season/Vigilante
The end has come my friends. For years, MHA has been building up to its finale and this final season did the series justice. Everyone’s story gets a nice conclusion as we see these students that we’ve followed and grown up with for years finally become the heroes they were meant to be. Emotions ran high, the action was intense, and I shed tears at the end not because it ended but because I was alive to experience it. We also need to give a shoutout to Vigilante. A spinoff of the main series and serving as a prequel, we shift our focus from the heroes and instead focus on vigilantes who protect their city from crime. It offers a new perspective while also answering questions the main series was too busy to answer. The new characters are fresh and are more mature compared to Izuku and the others who are students and teens growing up. A second season is currenrtly airing and with the first season already receiving a lot of good praise, I think fans are content with this spinoff and look forward to seeing more of it.
#4. Dandadan S2
The insane supernatural anime left us on the edge of our seat after the first season and the second season delivered in a big way with comedy, action, suspense, new allies and enemies to face, and budding romance. The whole anime was a fun ride from beginning to end that never left you disappointed and had you wondering what was going to happen next. The ending to this season has a lot to answer for in the next season.
#3. Dr. Stone: Science Future
Dr. Stone is a series that I’ve always been impressed with. It managed to take one of my worst subjects in school and make it fun and enjoyable. The final season of this anime has been nothing short of masterful in emotional storytelling. As the group gets closer and closer to their goal, the more challenges and enemies they come across and the more allies they make to cross that finish line. With the final part set to come out this year I look forward to seeing how this series ends and wish it the best.
#2. Gachiakuta
Who knew an anime about trash would be so wild and fun. A series that gained a following in the west long before it was even translated, Gachiakuta’s popularity only increased with the introduction of the anime. Going into this anime I knew nothing about the series but by the end of episode 2 I was hooked and wanted to see more of this series. With a great main character, an excellent supporting cast, and a dark but creative world to explore and see this series has everything it needs to become the next big manga in the industry for both Japan and the west. Here’s hoping they announce a second season sometime this year.
And number one. . .
#1. Solo Leveling S2
The first season was good but didn’t live up to the hype as everyone was hoping for. The second season fixed that. This season not only lived up to the hype, it surpassed it. Each episode builds off of what the previous did and gave us a good balance of story, action, and character development. Jinwoo’s glow up is great and the use of his powers was so cool. I have a whole new respect for the necromancer class. The action was incredible and made Jinwoo look like a badass, but the anime reminds us that he’s still humans as he manages to accomplish his goals and now gets ready to look toward a future where he use his abilities to not only protect his family but the world. This anime started the year off strong and set the bar for everyone to follow. While we managed to get some good candidates no one could top this one.
