About Project Nitsuj

Hello everyone, my name is Nitsuj, and welcome to Project Nitsuj. For those new here, I’m an anime blogger who has been passionately sharing my thoughts since 2013. After much contemplation, I decided to take the leap and create my own website to expand my audience and, hopefully, one day make a living from doing what I love.

My ultimate dream is to turn this passion into a full-time career—but one step at a time. For now, I’m simply a man who enjoys blogging, watching anime, and writing lively, entertaining blogs about anime for everyone to enjoy.

In this section, I’d like to share a little backstory about how I got into anime, what you can expect from me moving forward, introduce the many characters that bring my site to life, and explain the various aspects of my show.

My Introduction to Anime

My journey with anime spans most of my life. It all started back in preschool when I woke up early before school just to catch Sailor Moon airing on WB64. Back then, I didn’t even know what anime was—I just thought it was an American cartoon show. As I grew older, Toonami became a huge part of my after-school routine. I remember racing home, finishing my homework as fast as I could, just to settle in and watch the action-packed, creative, and hilarious shows Toonami offered.

It was unlike anything else I had ever seen, and I loved every second of it.

By high school, I finally understood what anime was and where it came from. Once I got to college, I began tracking down anime online—streaming shows on YouTube and other anime sites. Around the same time, I also started reading manga. If I had to pinpoint a reason why I fell so deeply into anime, it’s because of its creativity and imagination—qualities that felt refreshing and far more vibrant than much of what was being produced in American animation at the time. From that moment on, I couldn’t turn away.

My Username

The name Nitsuj is actually my name spelled backward—Justin. The idea was inspired by DJ Nujabes (aka Jun Seba), a musician who created much of the music for Samurai Champloo, one of my all-time favorite anime series.

For those who don’t know, Jun Seba unfortunately passed away in a car accident in February 2010—the same day Japan experienced a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. I was a fan of his music and appreciated the peaceful, soulful style he brought to his work.

What Is Project Nitsuj?

For starters, I’m a reviewer. I am a huge fan of anime and enjoy watching and reviewing it. My hope is for Project Nitsuj to offer you a second opinion on an anime you have watched or to provide a complete summary of the anime, along with my own opinions. This is especially for those looking for new anime or unsure whether to watch a particular series. I also review some American and Canadian animated shows, but for the most part, I primarily focus on anime.

Also, while on this subject, I will NOT review hentais. I know some people may request this, so I want to be clear from the start: I will say no to reviewing hentais every time. As of now, I have been blogging for over 13 years, so I have some experience under my belt. I like to make my reviews feel as if you’re reading a manga or light novel, while also entertaining you and giving you a good laugh as you read my blog.

I plan to post a review every Wednesday, so please look forward to that! Feel free to send me requests or feedback. If there are any changes to the posting schedule, I will be sure to let you know ahead of time. Regarding cutoff dates, I don’t really have one. I review any and all anime with only one rule: it must be completed, and at least a month or two must have passed since the final episode aired before I review it.

My Scoring System

At the end of my reviews, I provide a score on a 1-10 scale. Each anime starts at 5, the neutral zone, and scores go up or down depending on what I liked or disliked and my overall impression.

I approach anime from two perspectives: the normal perspective of someone new to anime with no expectations for the series, and the otaku perspective, someone with a good knowledge of anime who can understand the nuances and what to expect.

The scores are split into three categories:

1 to 4.5: The anime isn’t very good, makes many mistakes, isn’t engaging, fails to deliver on its promises, and is generally not worth your time. Watch only if you’re bored or just want to pass the time.

5 to 7.5: The anime is good. I liked it. The story is solid, the graphics are nice, the characters are well-written, and it’s worth watching at least once.

8 to 10: I really liked it, highly recommend you watch it, and it’s worth multiple views.
