(Nitsuj): Hello and welcome Project Nitsuj. Well guys we’re starting the end of My Hero Summeria with season 6.
(Shizuku): Released in 2022-2023, season 6 is where Bones locked in and elevated the series as one of the best animes in the last decade.
(Nitsuj): If season 5 wasn’t really your thing, then season 6 would win you back. So let’s get started. This is My Hero Academia S6.
Opening and Ending Themes
(Nitsuj): The first opening is “Hitamuki” by SUPER BEAVER. Considered an underrated opening by fans, the song does good job capturing the intensity of the arc we’re about to watch in the first half of the anime. The instrumental is good and the title of the song which means single-minded or earnest perfectly matches one of the major themes of the series. Never giving up in the face of overwhelming odds. While not one of my favorites it’s still a good opening in my opinion. The second opening is “Bokurano” by Eve. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was when I heard this opening and saw that it was done was Eve. It’s my favorite opening hands down. It does a good job capturing the sadness and depression of the characters who feel hopeless, but hope breaks through and reminded them not to give up and to keep fighting. Eve’s voice is fantastic as always and he nails the tone perfectly of what the current arc in the second half is all about.
(Shizuku): Our first ending for the season is “SKETCH” by Kiro Akiyama. At first, I didn’t like this song, but after going back and listening to it again I have to admit it’s a good and powerful song. Kiro’s voice is great and does a good job showing the parallel lives of Izuku and Shigaraki, and how the two have grown to be who they are today. The second ending “North Wind” by SIX LOUNGE serves as the perfect song to Izuku’s life. It gets you emotional and makes you appreciate the journey you’ve gone on with him and how much he’s grown from the quirkless kid admiring heroes to becoming a hero himself. This is my second favorite ending from the series.
Episodes 1-4
(Nitsuj): The season starts off on a big note. The heroes are moving in place to take down PLF and capture Garaki. Endeavor’s group invades his hospital where they catch him and we find out he has a regenerative quirk which he’s been using to keep All for One alive for so long (https://youtu.be/Cau3NQ4euR0?si=MfMNSwyKSWzSCyW1). There’s an intense moment between him, Aizawa, and Mic (Shizuku: Both of those two would like nothing more than to snap his neck what he did to their friend. Unfortunately it gets revealed that he’s a double and the hospital is just a base for all the Nomus. We see the real Garaki is in his underground lab which is beneath the hospital and Mirko finds him destroying his only way out.
Episode 2 starts off where episode 1 left off. While the heroes are evacuating the hospital as well as the surrounding area, Mirko takes on Garaki and his Nomus. A majority of the episode focuses on Mirko and her fighting against some high-grade Nomus all by herself (scene here: https://youtu.be/VED6ajbJJR8?si=5WzrXcEMnRZEg3uH). Even when one of them mangles her arm up she doesn’t stop smiling and continues to fight like a badass (Shizuku: How is she only the 5th best hero? She’s fucking amazing! Kohei goes on record saying Mirko represents everything he finds attractive in a woman. If that’s the case, then the man has good taste and needs to look me up). Garaki retreats to the back of the lab where he tries to hurry up Shiragaki’s procedure (scene here: https://youtu.be/fpU3ehgJM6A?si=VX2vWV0L3y4wLMNM). In the final third of the episode, another group of heroes attacks the PLF villa where Kaminari shows off (and we get confirmation that he and Jiro will be an item going down the road. In episode 3 the heroes advance onto the PLF villa where things seem to be going their way (Shizuku: For once). They’re all working together, we get some good quirk combinations, and they’re taking down members of the PLF. Even Hawk manages to neutralize Twice who was the biggest threat to the operation. Once again Twice feels like everything is his fault and he’s letting everyone down as he was betrayed once again by a person he thought was his friend. Twice manages to activate his quirk and tries to fight back against Hawks, but Hawks is too strong for him to take on. Dabi, however, comes in to fight against Hawks (well this is a bad match up) where he manages to turn the tables on Hawks but hurts Twice in the crossfire. Despite his fatal injuries, Twice uses the last of his powers to save Toga and then dies to end the episode on an emotional high note (scene here: https://youtu.be/sox5_TyWZ2s?si=JSEe-EXxCeJizukc. (Shizuku): He was the one villain I really did like).
The fighting continues in episode 4 as Dabi pins down Hawks and tries to kill him. Back at the hospital, Mirko despite multiple stabbings, a messed up arm and bleeding profusely manages to reach Garaki and Shigaraki where she damages his equipment which stops him from waking up Shigaraki (Shizuku: Stay where you belong. In a dream). Garaki tries to get it running again but Mic stops him and destroys Shigaraki’s containment unit (fuck him up Mic. Fuck him up. Scene here: https://youtu.be/gd3yuFW_q10?si=BPRCpu1MAEXxkOgM). As Mic carries Garaki away the other heroes go to secure Shigaraki (or we could just kill him now and save us a huge headache later on). However, Shigaraki wakes himself up to end the episode (scene here: https://youtu.be/Df0S3jfINVM?si=hjzKJWMYMvhqDS16, I told you we should have killed him).
Episodes 5-8
Episode 5 is Shigaraki’s awakening and they do it in style as he destroys in entire city and takes out a few heroes in the process just to set the tone for how destructive his powers have become and what the future holds for everyone now that he’s awake (Shizuku: Spoilers. It’s not good).
The action continues in episode 6 as Endeavor takes on Shigaraki who takes a point blank fire blast from Endeavor and shrugs it off like nothing (Shizuku: That is terrifying). As the episode goes on we see Shigaraki’s body has been bioengineered to make him stronger and he has multiple quirks within his body now (he’s like an evil version of Captain America crossed with Rogue from X-Men). Shigaraki is after One for All and once Izuku hears this he quickly goes to a deserted area to lure Shigaraki away from everyone. Shigaraki goes after Izuku with Katsuki following him. The plan works as they lure Shigaraki away and have the remaining heroes gather and surround him with Aizawa there to use his eyes and nullify Shigaraki’s quirks. The only downside is even without the quirks he’s still a dangerous individual and awakens the remaining nomus to fight (scene here: https://youtu.be/1nmIBw1HJhg?si=hnu83Wxp2DKL1xd0).
(Shizuku): Things just go from bad to worse in episode 7. Not only do the heroes struggle to defeat Shigaraki but Gigantomachia is on the move again and heading for him. None of the heroes can slow him down not even Mt. Lady (who’s actually trying this time and putting in the effort. That’s how serious this situation is). Midnight takes a heavy hit and gets surrounded by the villains. She passes on a message to Momo telling her to give the heroes sedatives and run away before cutting off communication. Momo and the others students refuse to run away and she comes up with a plan that will hopefully take down Gigantomachia (scene here: https://youtu.be/bYNGLkLFNA0?si=fLuEc_B-_5YpK44_).
For a majority of episode 8 it’s the students of U.A taking of Gigantomachia and the villains. After Gigantomachia falls into their trap they try to throw some liquid that will put him to sleep but have a hard getting it in his mouth. In a rather interesting twist, we find out that Gigantomachia was the villain Mina faced back in middle school and he scared the living hell out of her (Nitsuj: Understandable). She was never able to get over that fear and nearly cost her life, but she gets saved by Ejiro (Yes! Red Acid for the win!). Ejiro then climbs Gigantomachia and attempts to put him to sleep only for him to transform into something more dangerous (scene here: https://youtu.be/QtP9Q8otw8A?si=99qGWC1yVrSIW2Mv). Back in the city, the one thing that shouldn’t happen happens. Not only do they let Shigaraki monologue when they have the perfect chance to finish him (dumbasses), but he manages to use the quirk-killing drug on Aizawa (Shizuku and Nitsuj: Fuck!). He also kills Gran Torino (double fuck!).
Episodes 9-13
Episode 9 starts on an epic note with Aizawa cutting his leg off to stop the drug from spreading through his body (Nitsuj: Oh that is hardcore. He truly is one of the greatest heroes in this series). However, for a split second, he stopped using his quirk and this allowed Shigaraki to break free and attack Aizawa’s face. Aizawa goes down and now it looks like the only person who stands a chance against Shigaraki is Izuku who manages to unlock another quirk called Float which allows him to. . .float (I am. . .somewhat disappointed by this). Izuku gets everyone to safety and fights against Shigaraki in the air. As the two fight we get a glimpse into Katsuki’s mind who admits Izuku creeps him out. Izuku is totally reckless when it comes to saving others and it scares Katsuki to see someone have that kind of disregard for their life (Nitsuj: He’s essentially crazy). Despite Izuku’s best efforts none of his attacks bring down Shigaraki as he keeps regenerating. The only upside to this situation is that Izuku is hurting him more than he can regenerate, but Izuku’s body isn’t going to hold from all these 100% attacks. Katsuki, Shoto, and Endeavor spring into action with Endeavor riding Katsuki’s back to reach Shigaraki and grab him from behind. Endeavor uses his strongest attack to burn Shigaraki alive (scene here: https://youtu.be/3ApL_d1hhsg?si=7IscbhL9jcjEkRH4, burn motherfucker, burn). Just when it looks like this attack will do it, All for One takes over Shigraki’s body and attacks Endeavor with shards. Izuku is also attacked, but Katsuki shows the biggest development out of everyone and protects Izuku with his life (Nitsuj: From picking on him in middle school to protecting him in high school. That is some good character growth).
At the start of episode 10 Izuku let’s his rage control him and attacks Shigaraki (or All for One. I honestly don’t know who he’s fighting at this point) where he gets touched and the transfer begins. Luckily, the wielders of One for All fight back and protect Izuku from losing his quirk. Meanwhile, Gigantomachia makes it to the city and Toga leaves the group in order to talk to Ochaco. With the death of Double still weighing on her mind she wants to know if they intend to kill her as well (Nitsuj: If necessary. . .yes. Seriously, I don’t know why All for One is still alive. I would have put a bullet through his head the minute we caught him). After Toga attacks an old lady to steal her form and lures Ochaco she asks her questions and Ochaco’s answer is to stop wasting her time with stupid questions (Nitsuj: And this is validated. Toga just attacked an innocent old lady when she could have just asked her directly. She’s hurt and watched a number of people die, yet when it happens to someone close to her all of sudden things change and she considers this wrong. It’s like morals and logic meaning nothing to a villain, but when a hero breaks them they’re seen as the greater evil).
In episode 11 we get the big reveal that everyone’s been waiting for. We see Ochaco and Toga have a quick fight after Toga got the answers she needs (Nitsuj: What were those answers? (Shizuku): Don’t know). We then return to the fight against Shigaraki whose body is reaching its limits and he can barely stand. The heroes try to take him down but Gigantomachia arrives and Dabi steals the spotlight as fan theories come true. Dabi’s real name is Toya and he is Endeavor’s son and Shoto’s brother (I can’t believe fans called it. (Nitsuj): Even a broken clock is right twice a day). Sure enough, he was Endeavor’s first child, deemed a failure, and abandoned. Ever since then he’s been watching Endeavor with only one goal in mind, ruin his life. He uploads a video to the internet revealing his origins and how Endeavor abandoned him (Nitsuj: Oh this is going to go over well with the public). He even pins Twice’s death on Hawks (damn, they are just crushing the trust of the hero society). Endeavor is shaken to his very core to see the ghost from his past return and can’t move (Nitsuj: The past always has a way of coming back to haunt you. Sometimes for good. Sometimes for bad). Dabi gets ready to attack the group (after his happy dance. Scene here: https://youtu.be/ajrd65P68ok?si=xvywGBRtjwR3PkQs) but they get saved by the return of the best, Best Jeanist.
Oh man, episode 12 slowly sees the heroes turn things in their favor. Best Jeanist immobilizes the villains while Shoto takes on Dabi (scene here: https://youtu.be/EVyOahcP6tw?si=1YI9uLVhZ83hVPal, siblings fighting each other. A tale as old as leftover pizza). The only problem is Gigantomachia becomes active again and it’s taking everything Best Jeanist has to stop him from breaking free and Endeavor is still frozen with shock that his firstborn child is still alive (Nitsuj: And is no doubt getting a boner from exposing his family’s private life. (Shizuku): Look, I know Endeavor is turning over a new leaf and stuff, but your past mistake is trying to destroy society. Fix this!). As if that wasn’t bad, Nomus are showing up and are about to attack Best Jeanist when he gets saved by the one person we weren’t expecting, Mirio and he’s got his quirk back (Nitsuj: Two surprise returns! I feel like I’m watching a wrestling pay-per-view). Yep, Eri has restored his quirk. While he’s not back at 100% he can still fight and pack a punch. Izuku’s words manage to help Endeavor recover from his shock and he delivers a straight uppercut to Gigantomachia’s jaw to knock him out. This was thanks in large part to everyone’s efforts to weaken him as well as the sedative. As everyone continues to fight, Best Jeanist goes plus ultra and continues to bind the villains (just snap their bones or necks and get it over with. I understand heroes don’t kill but sometimes it’s best to go the Rorschach route. It just is and saves you a lot of headaches).
We end the first half on a sad note. All for One retakes control of Shigaraki’s body, gathers the remaining Nomus, and then escapes all while abandoning some members of the League of Villains giving the heroes a big fat L with many of their top heroes injured, missing, or dead.
