I hate this series. There’s just no other way around it. Ikkitousen to this day remains to be some of my best reviews and rightfully so as you can just tell I’m having a blast writing this blog and watching this piece of crap anime but you’re probably wondering what possessed me to torture myself like this? Well just like the Negima anime I wanted to show everyone I wasn’t just here to talk about great or decent looking anime, I was also here to tackle the bad stuff as well so I decided to take a look at the series that I considered the worst possible anime out there and since there were 4 seasons why not make an arc out of it. Thus, the Ikkitousen arc began along with my month long suffering of having to sit through this awful series.
So the story if you forgot goes like this, a group of high school kids are the reincarnations of warriors from The Romance of the Three Kingdoms which is actually based on a war that happened in China between three kingdoms and during this war some of history’s greatest fighters and strategist were born. We see that a majority of these reincarnations are all busty high school girls with a few men here and there. The three kingdoms are now represented by high schools where the three major high schools are in a ceasefire with each other defying fate and choosing to create their own paths. The anime primarily focuses on Hakufu the leader of one of these schools who is a complete idiot and causes trouble for everyone around her. Throughout the series Hakufu works with her friends and allies to defeat enemies that try to destroy their ceasefire agreement, fight each other to get stronger, and just live life.
Unfortunately, nobody in this series is likable in the least. The characters aren’t interesting at all and they can’t go a scene without showing a girl’s panties. It’s as if the anime was self-aware of how awful it is and decided to show big-breasted women and panty shots in order to keep us around. It’s downright insulting. It’s fucking insulting. Does anybody see that or am I the only one? Now don’t get me wrong I enjoy fanservice but when you keep shoving in our face in every scene and give us no story or plot to go along with it than we got a major problem. Despite having a number of years and multiple seasons to see and fix their problems nobody made any attempt to fix them. It honestly felt like I was watching the same anime 4 times in a row only with more characters added into the mix and each season sucking hard. I still consider the fourth season to be the worst out of all of them with the third season the best as it had one good episode that I have to admit I liked but other than that every other episode and story that with a long with it were stupid and pain to sit through. If I had to name anything good that came out of this series it would be Kanu and Ryofu as these two are the only smart women in the series and they’re great fighters. If I had to name the thing that annoyed me the most about this series (besides the writing, setup, and story) it would have to be Hakufu who as I said before is annoying as hell and the relationship between Ryomou and Saji. Ryomou is hopelessly in love with Saji who pretty much uses her, lies to her, and plays with her emotions like she was his own personal toy. Yet despite everything he’s done to her she still wants this guy to take her virginity. Are you fucking kidding me?! Their relationship makes about as much sense as Sauske and Sakura from Naruto ending up together. Nobody believes it, nobody wanted it, and yet it still happens. Finally, the fighting sucks. In anime about martial arts you would expect to see some good fight scenes but no we don’t get those here. They may look cool at times but trust me these fights are just excuses to show off more panty shots and rip off clothes and man do these clothes rip easily. It’s like wet tissue paper was used as their fabric. Plus, they’re all boring fight scenes with predictable endings you see coming a mile away and characters usually winning because of some deus ex machina or some shit. The final score for this series as a whole is a 1/10. It is awful from beginning to end from first season to fourth season and even if I were to count the OVAs I would still give this anime a 1/10. Stay away from this garbage of an anime. It’s not worth your time and is a disgrace to anime. I’m embarrassed that it exists and I’m sure Japan is as well.
