Well it’s the end of May which summer is officially here for us in west and summer vacation which means it’s time for First Impressions. That time of year where we take a look at the anime set to come out this summer and give our initial impressions on them. The spring lineup for the most has been good. Not great, but good. My Hero Academia is always great, To Your Eternity, 86 and Odd Taxi have been enjoyable. Shaman King, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord and Nagataro are good as well. Sadly, there wasn’t an anime this past season that gave me that wow factor that I’m used to seeing, so hopefully we’ll get that in the summer lineup. Let’s get started. These are the Summer Anime 2021 First Impressions.
Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season Part 2
So first up is the return of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. The second part of season 2 arrives and with Rimuru now a demon lord and getting ready to face another demon lord, the stakes are high for the second half of the season. Watching it, but they’re not the only anime making a return this summer.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon S
We’re also getting the return of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid which is already getting a little bit of backlash for a new character. I might watch it.
Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta… X
We’re also getting the second season of My Next Life as a Villainess. Mira seems to like this anime a lot so I’m sure she’s excited to see it back. Mira is watching it.
100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru 2
Here’s another anime I’m happy to see return, I’m Standing on 1,000,000 Lives. One of the more unique takes on isekai anime. Watching it.
Tantei wa mou, Shindeiru
A comedy/drama about detectives who may or may not be dead. I might watch it.
Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki
Another isekai anime where the guy who was summoned is a realist, becomes the king of the nation that summoned him and now must lead them prosperity or ruin. Watching it.
Kanojo mo Kanojo
A romcom about a boy who gets two girlfriends and starts dating them both where they’re okay with this. I have to watch this and see where this goes.
Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei
A spin-off of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei that will focus on Miyuki. I might watch it.
Vanitas no Carte
A vampire and vampire doctor get thrusted into a conflict that threatens the peace between humans and vampires. Not interested.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu
The next entry in the Higurashi series. If you watched the last season you saw how things got intense near the end. Watching it.
Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!
Jahy is the second-in-command of the dark realm feared by all until the realm gets destroyed by a magical girl and Jahy gets loses all of her powers and becomes a loli. Jahy now finds herself in the human world plotting the revival of the dark realm while also working to pay rent and keep her job. I might watch this.
Peach Boy Riverside
This anime sounds cool. A princess dreams of traveling the world but the world is filled with dangerous monsters and humans hide behind walls. One day she meets a traveler who gives hope to her dream and takes her out into the world only to reveal himself to be Momotarom the ruthless demon-slayer. The princess now finds herself in a world of gore and violence, but follows him to learn about the world. Watching it.
Shiroi Suna no Aquatope
A story about girls, an aquarium and the mysteries within it. Not interested
Bokutachi no Remake
A game developer’s company goes bankrupt and he loses his job. After returning to his hometown, he somehow travels 10 years to the past and is given a second chance to redo his life. Not interested.
Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi
In the past, demons were on the verge of destroying humanity, but deities known as Idatens fought and sealed the demons away. 800 years have passed and the demons are now returning with the new generation of Idatens having no fighting experience and living peaceful lives. I will check out the first episode and see where it goes.
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu
In this isekai a boy gets transported to another world but is quickly rejected by the gods because they think he’s ugly. He gets transported to the wilderness and has to fight to survive. Despite getting turned away by the gods, the boy still desires to save the world. I’ll give it the 3 episode rule.
Cheat Kusushi no Slow Life: Isekai ni Tsukurou Drugstore
Another isekai where a guy opens a drugstore. Meh, I’ll give it a chance.
Love Live! Superstar!!
A new Love Live anime. Skipping it.
RE-MAIN
An anime about water polo. Not watching.
Seirei Gensouki
A boy who gets reincarnated in another world solves the mystery of a missing girl and gets enrolled in a prestigious academy for children. I might check it out.
Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid
The story focuses on a boy who has a crush on his maid, but due to a witch’s curse anything he touches dies. I might watch it.
Meikyuu Black Company
A corrupted businessman finds himself in another world and becomes enslaved in a crooked corporation. He vows to rise up from slavery and create his own fortune by any means necessary. Watching it.
Uramichi Oniisan
An anime following the life of a TV host when the cameras are off. Not interested.
SCARLET NEXUS
An anime based off the game that will be coming out next month. Watching it.
Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun
A young boy becomes the dorm mother to a dorm full of college girls. I read the manga a little bit. I might just watch this.
Sonny Boy
A group of classmates get teleported to another world where they all gain mysterious powers and argue over what to do and how to return to their world. I will check out the first few episodes.
NIGHT HEAD 2041
As of right now no information about this anime. Not watching.
Kageki Shoujo!!
Focuses on female actresses. Not interested.
Deatte 5-byou de Battle
A boy gets dragged into a life of death battle. Don’t know about this one.
IDOLiSH7: Third BEAT!
Third season. Not watching.
D_CIDE TRAUMEREI
A story that focuses on a strange incident that happened in Shibuya and changed the life of our main character. Story doesn’t really sound all that interesting, but I’ll check out the first episode.
Getter Robo Arc
A sequel to Getter Robo. Never heard of this series, but it looks to be a mecha series from back in the day. Not watching.
Ore, Tsushima
An anime about a lady and her cats. Not interested.
TSUKIPRO THE ANIMATION 2
Second season of pretty boys shooting guns. Not watching.
Along with these animes we have these shows continuing into the summer: To Your Eternity, Shaman King, Iruma-kun, Edens Zero, Blue Reflection Ray, and My Hero Academia.
Movies and OVAs
We got the third movie of My Hero Academia coming out this summer along with Fate/Grand Order and Nanatsu no Taizai. There are no interesting OVAs coming out. Aside from Megalo Box nothing really stands out here.
Final Thoughts
So that’s the summer lineup. We’re seeing the return of a lot of interesting isekais this summer, so if you’re not a fan of isekai or just tired of them you’re probably not gonna like this lineup. Personally, I always like isekai and will give them a chance, but if it’s not your thing then I suggest going back and looking at a few hits from the past seasons you didn’t get a chance to check out.
