(Nitsuj): Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Last week on the My Hero Summeria we saw Katsuki get captured by the villains. Against the expectations of everyone he chooses not to side with the villains and pull a Sasuke on us. Izuku and the other students rescue Katsuki while All Might finally fights and defeats All For One but using up all of his power and becoming quirkless. The students are moved into dorms for their safety and have a heart to heart with Tsu who was worried about everyone’s safety. How will Japan function now that their symbol of peace has retired and what will be the next move for League of Villains? Let’s find out.

Episodes 14-17

(Shizuku): We start the second half with the class being told they’ll be working on getting their provisional hero licenses which means they can do actual hero work and won’t get in trouble for doing it. In order to get the license, you have to pass a test where their odds of passing it are 50 to 100 (Nitsuj: I like those odds). The exam differs each year, but what they test you on doesn’t change such as how they respond to situations, how do they gather intelligence, are they good at taking control of a situation and leading people to safety, and how they respond to citizens in danger. Before taking the exam Aizawa wants them to practice on perfecting their own ultimate move (basically instilling in them that as long as I have this move I have the advantage and can win). They begin training to perfect their moves where Katsuki seems to be ahead of everyone (Nitsuj: The possibilities with his quirk are endless) and others seem to have an idea of what they want to do except for Izuku who’s at a standstill (scene here: https://youtu.be/NLRqej35dRc?si=H3ykREMdsMH7iRFW). His arms are on their last legs and if he continues to fight like he’s been doing in the past then his arms are done. All Might comes by to visit where for the first time he starts acting like a teacher by giving advice to everyone (Nitsuj: He knows he’s no longer a hero. All he can do now is teach and keep them on the right path) and tells Izuku that he keeps trying to be like him (scene here: https://youtu.be/_M5rd-D970w?si=zGQM7rJhXBZzQizp). At first Izuku doesn’t get what All Might means by that (really? Okay, I know I’m not the sharpest but even I get what All Might was telling him) but after taking a visit to the support class to get his suit altered and running into the eccentric Mei again, Izuku finally gets what All Might was trying to tell him (scene here: https://youtu.be/fEh8zWV3WO8?si=ypp_A09Pj-KQM3nJ). Instead of fighting with his hands he’s going to start kicking (scene here: https://youtu.be/7WC9rJ6LpeU?si=WpAgdnmH9T1BPyBD. (Nitsuj): Alright. Let’s call up Sanji from One Piece to train him. Nobody uses their feet better than that guy).

In episode 15 we start with Izuku showing off his new style of fighting. After that, the girls start to catch on to Ochaco having feelings for a boy (we of course know it’s Izuku. (Nitsuj): Just admit you like the guy so we can get this ship sailing. Scene here: https://youtu.be/VXD8AolCnkQ?si=gCCdKrLWZadTQHpe). Four days soon pass and it’s time for the provisional license exam where we see that they’ll also be competing against other schools with one of those schools being Shiketsu a school that’s the equivalent of U.A in the west and one of their students is Inasa a student who got the top scores and recommendations meaning this guy has abilities that are better than Shoto. He’s a big fan of U.A but for some reason chose Shiketsu over them (Nitsuj: Most likely for the girls. Scene here: https://youtu.be/sTnegqBI89Q?si=l0HIqC5xUovngIyJ). We get to meet another hero called Ms. Joke whose quirk is Outburst, which allows her to send people into uncontrollable laughter (a quirk I’m sure Danial Tosh wishes he had). She’s madly in love with Aizawa and wants to marry him which he refuses to do (why would she want a plain guy like Aizawa? (Nitsuj): He’s the perfect straight man to her act). As soon they get change they go to orientation where they’re told that in order to pass they have to rescue people but before that we must trim the fat (Nitsuj: Excuse me? (Shizuku): Lower the room’s capacity. (Nitsuj): You lost me. (Shizuku): Eliminate the competition. (Nitsuj): Still not getting it. (Shizuku): There’s too many students, so we’re doing an elimination round. (Nitsuj): Oh I figured that. I thought we were talking about the fat around your stomach. *Shizuku screams in frustration* This is nice). The first round is ball tag where if the examinees get hit with three balls they’re all. Each examinee gets 6 balls and the first 100 to get 2 or more people out advance to the next round. Izuku catches on quickly and realizes that for this round the class needs to stick together and fight as one because everyone knows what they can do thanks to the sports festival (Nitsuj: Probably not the smartest idea to televise that event in hindsight). Katsuki and Shoto decide to go it alone and sure enough Izuku was right as everyone targets them (scene here: https://youtu.be/PDbUNHkI6ns?si=wnZv0-VIrAQZpVVe, when your top dog everybody wants a piece of you).

Episode 16 goes by slow as a lot of stuff is happening but not much is going on. Inasa manages to advance to the next round by using his quirk whirlwind which lets him control the wind (Nitsuj: These elemental quirks are overpowered) to tag 120 other students out instantly (scene here: https://youtu.be/4RpjTcahXUk?si=4lyvpI1twgVLwMBb. Yep, he’s definitely the pact leader in this race). Izuku and the others get separated from each other and Izuku finds himself facing off against a girl named Camie who manages to tag him once and seems to be quite interested with him on a personal level (you and another girl). His fight with Camie attracts others students as well as Ochaco where she falls off rock but gets saved by Izuku (Nitsuj: It’s a trap! But still nice of Izuku to save his future girlfriend even if she is a fake) who manages to escape with her in his arms. They get to safe area where Ochaco tries to tag him but he reacts just in time and we see that this Ochaco is actually Camie who’s quirk allows her to change into anyone (Nitsuj: Oh~ these guys are a pain to deal with). Izuku gets saved by the real Ochaco and Sero which forces Camie to retreat for the time being and the number of people who have passed the first test so far is over 50 (bust a move and start tagging. Scene here: https://youtu.be/QOZKiTEVdws?si=elr8YdXXgoqtI1CJ). We cut to Shoto who is battling a ninja 1 to 10 to end the episode.

At the start of episode 17 Shoto takes on the ninjas and manages to beat them using science and precision (scene here: https://youtu.be/a4RkYLssm94?si=wK_w0RjoXejB99TZ, neeeeeeerrrddddd~). After that, we focus on Momo, Jiro, Tsu, and Shoji who have entered a building in the hopes of getting a bird’s eye view and search for the others (Nitsuj: This next part was filler added in by the anime which we welcome. (Shizuku): In the manga, they rush past the first part of the exam due to time constraints but here, we actually get to see more parts of the exam and see how much the class has grown. While Izuku may be the main character, that doesn’t mean the other characters can’t have their time to shine and be the center of focus). While in the building they fall into a trap set by Saiko a second year at Seiai academy along with other Seiai students. Her quirk is IQ where once she drinks tea and closes her eyes she becomes a super genius (Nitsuj: The effects also vary from the type of tea she drinks). She uses her quirk to trap the others in a hallway and render most of their quirks useless. Jiro’s ear gets injured, they block the windows to render Shoji’s eyesight useless, the AC is on cold which makes Tsu begin to hibernate (she does look cute), and they seal off one of the exits leaving only one way out where they’re lying in wait. Momo is the only one who’s quirk hasn’t been disabled yet which could change as in order to save everyone she’ll have to use her quirk to seal up the vents but that will cause her to overuse her quirk and leave herself and the others at the mercy of Seiai (Nitsuj: Impressive strategy. She’s practically put them in check. (Shizuku): Sure wish I had her on my CoD team. We would have won that tournament easily). Momo figures out their endgame and instead of trying to defend everyone she remembers the words of Izuku and saves everyone. She creates a huge speaker and has Jiro emit a high frequency sound through it which knocks out the Seiai students (that was very Izuku of her). They exit the hallway to see their plan worked but Momo gets captured by Saiko who managed to stay conscious and pulls her back into the hallway where she gets saved by the others who also remembered the words of Izuku and chose to save their friend even if it meant causing them to fail the exam (scene here: https://youtu.be/ab1dQHzuBuA?si=WZ0CBTX75Ii5mT5X. (Nitsuj): As you can see this filler part shows us just how much Izuku inspires his class. The same can be said for Katsuki. While their ideas and personalities differ from each other you can’t deny that these two inspire the class to up their game. (Shizuku): They are a justice sandwich! No toppings necessary). Momo’s group passes the first part of the exam and we go to Katsuki’s of him, Eiji, and Kaminari who come across a student who can turn people into hideous blobs (you know, some of these quirks just scream future villain) where Katsuki takes him on. Back with Izuku’s group he decides to act as a decoy while Ochaco and Sero take out other students from behind (scene here: https://youtu.be/Snh8u-ZcIYg?si=_ueZMbYDxekUyu-m).

Episodes 18-21

It’s rush time in episode 18 as there’s only 30 spots remaining. We start off with Katsuki taking on student from last episode who doesn’t care about the exam and instead just wants to make sure the students of U.A don’t pass, particularly Katsuki. He considers his behavior unbecoming of a hero and doesn’t take his role as a student of U.A seriously (well that’s a load crap. Yes, I admit Katsuki is vulgar hothead, but that idiot is trying harder than anyone to be a hero. It’s like you said boss, everything about him just screams villain yet despite all of that, he’s determined to be a hero and surpass All Might). We actually see in this fight how Katsuki remains calm and rational. He fires off small shots to avoid hitting Eijiro and the other students who got turned into blobs and even when he himself gets turned into a blob, he tosses Kaminari a grenade which he uses to blind the blob student into a trap where Kaminari zaps him with a concentrated electric attack. This allows Eijiro and Katsuki to escape their blob prison and take out the blob student (scene here: https://youtu.be/ShFDfkiSKKo?si=kqBEe4NPsbil5ulJ) which in turn releases the other students (Nitsuj: Oh good, more people to tag). Back with Izuku’s group they use Sero’s tape to trap a bunch of other students and tag team to move on to the next round of the test (scene here: https://youtu.be/gg11m_75BO4?si=eGhvmE0MpwU6Qrhp). Katsuki’s group also passes which leaves only 9 students from the class left and only 10 spots left to pass. Tenya manages to find Yuga who at first is ready to give up but Tenya’s determination to help out all his classmates inspires Tenya to keep going. He launches a powerful blast into the air to get everyone’s attention where his plan is to sacrifice himself and let Tenya tag whoever comes. Yuga’s plan works but the other students from U.A show up to distract the other students and tag them which allows everyone in the class to pass (scene here: https://youtu.be/KHKxkjMle8A?si=Eyj1oZiftDPVVAeq, way to go side characters). After the credits, before moving on to the next part of the exam, the field begins to blow up (Nitsuj: Did Michael Bay take over the exam?). This is the second and final part of the exam, rescuing citizens in a disaster site.

(Nitsuj): So in the next part of the exam, they learn that they’ll be rescuing professional citizens in danger (Japan will just make up jobs to get anyone working these days won’t they?). Their score will be based on how well they perform rescues, and they have to reach a benchmark in order to pass. They have a short break where the pervert duo interrogates Izuku about his run in with Camie. We see Ochaco jealous of her (Shizuku: I honestly think she’s an undercover yandere), and Inasa seems to have a problem with Shoto as he seems to have the same eyes as Endeavor (true, but his personality is nothing like his father). After the break the test begins where they decide to work together again and come across a boy where they immediately lose points for mishandling his situation (rescuing people in a disaster isn’t as simple as it sounds. For starters, everyone involved in the disaster is scared, hurt, and confused. They have no idea what’s going on and they need immediate help. Second, getting them to safety. Heroes are usually the first people onto the scene which means they’re responsible for setting up safety zones and first aid stations for the injured. Third, using your quirks correctly. They need to think of the best way to use their quirks in a disaster. For example, Ochaco can levitate the rumble but she has to be careful or she’ll cause rumble to fall on other people so she has to use her powers wisely in this kind of disaster. Same with Inasa who tried to use his wind to carry people. (Shizuku): That was dumb of him, what if they had been seriously injured. (Nitsuj): Exactly. This part of the exam is actually way tougher than the first part in my opinion. In the first part all they had to do was just fight each other and go all out. They could be as reckless as they wanted to be. Here, they have to hold back and use good judgement to get the job done. In the end, this part of the exam comes down to experience and it’s here that the second years and up have an advantage over Izuku’s group. All this time they’ve been fighting. They haven’t been taught the rescue portion of being a hero). Despite this setback, they all recover and split up into small groups to rescue more people (scene here: https://youtu.be/yTVXwj75BWA?si=fombzXTdkb19Uuxr). Even working with other schools to rescue as many people as well. Just when things are going well and everyone seems to be getting a good handle of the situation they introduce the second part of the exam, protecting and saving citizens at the same time (Shizuku: Multitasking). The disaster area gets attacked by the pro hero Gang Orca the 10th rank hero despite looking like an orca and villain (scene here: https://youtu.be/-hdLaZB0rqo?si=YHdL8l35i_ttZeU5, I can picture him in the role of a gang boss. Similar to the Penguin, Kingpin, or Black Mask).

Episode 20 is a filler episode where Deku and a few others do a hero exercise. This was all because the network they were on were doing a charity event, so it was either do a filler episode or no episode at all that week. Not wanting to piss off the fans, they decided to go with the filler episode while also working in a promotion for their upcoming movie.

Episode 21 returns us back to the exam where Gang Orca and his men attack. Their first target is the first aid area where Izuku and other students quickly evacuate the civilians while Gang Orca and his men get stopped by Shoto and Inasa who are just two people who can’t get it along (and no it’s not like Zoro and Sanji from One Piece. It’s more like I really can’t stand this guy and hope he dies kind of thing). Inasa just can’t stand people like Shoto because his eyes are the same as Endeavor. Inasa believes that heroes should be full of passion but when he looks into the eyes of Endeavor and Shoto all he sees is hatred (Shizuku: Endeavor hates that he’ll never reach All Might’s level while Shoto just hates his dad). If you can believe it this isn’t the first time the two have met. They faced each other during the entrance exams where Inasa tried to be friends with Shoto only for him to reject Inasa with his cold eyes and that’s when Inasa decided that he would reject Shoto as a hero. Shoto and Inasa keep getting in each other’s way and even begin arguing with each other with a villain right in front of them (scene here: https://youtu.be/4H2ri3h_QtI?si=YuK5LU1x6T8Y22si, fail! Automatic failure! We have people injured from a terrorist attack with the villains attacking and you two so-called heroes argue with each other over ideals and personal issues you have with each other!? What a disappointment). In the mist of their arguing, they get knocked out by Gang Orca who can use ultrasonic sounds to take out his opponents. As they both lay on the ground, they realize how bad they both screwed up and try to make things right. Using their quirks, they trap Gang Orca in a whirlwind of fire to keep him away from the others but he douses himself in water to stay hydrated (scene here: https://youtu.be/4H2ri3h_QtI?si=YVUI9PyBJ90lfvfa). Izuku and a few other heroes take on Gang Orca’s men and even Izuku tries to get a hit in on Gang Orca to keep him at bay when Shoto and Inasa’s attack lets up. Once the last civilians have been rescued the exam is over and we end on a cliffhanger with the results about to be announced (Shizuku: Well we know two people who won’t be passing).

Episodes 22-25

In episode 22 everyone from class 1-A passes except for Shoto and Katsuki (and honestly I’m not shocked. Shoto screwed himself over with Inasa and Katsuki is Katsuki. (Shizuku): ‘Nough said). Even though Shoto, Katsuki, Inasa, and a few others failed, they’ll still have a chance to get their licenses after they’ve completed a 3-month special training course. As everyone heads home we find out that Camie was actually Toga who’s quirk allows her to take the form of anyone she wants as long as she drinks their blood and she now has Izuku’s blood (knowing her feelings for Izuku, I worry about what she’s going to do with that blood. (Shizuku): Transform into him, strip, look at herself in the mirror, and then masturbate). In another part of the story, All Might goes to see All for One in his maximum-security prison (again, kill him. Stop wasting tax money and just put a bullet through this guy’s head) where All Might wants to know what he’s planning with Shigaraki. All for One answers in riddles not really giving us an answer but it seems like he wants All Might to die at the hands of Shigaraki (Shizuku: It would be some poetic villainy). Later that night, as everyone relaxes at the dorms, Katsuki calls out Izuku to discuss his work. After everyone falls asleep, Katsuki and Izuku go to Ground Beta where the two had their first face off against each other at U.A (Shizuku: The moment Katsuki realized he’s not the best out there). Katsuki has figured out that Izuku inherited All Might’s quirk but that’s not why he bought Izuku out there, he wants to fight Izuku himself. Izuku has always been a thorn in Katsuki’s eyes because in my opinion he can’t understand Izuku. Izuku was born with no quirk yet despite this, he continued to pursue his dreams of being a hero. Katsuki tried to break his spirit and make him realize that him being a hero is impossible, yet Izuku never gave up. Izuku continued to follow his dreams where he inherited a quirk from the hero both he and Katsuki looked up to and now here they stand, in the best school in the country for heroes, with Izuku being ahead of him despite Katsuki being called a child prodigy and having an experience edge-wise in the quirk department. Katsuki doesn’t mind falling behind the others as he knows he can surpass them, but Izuku is someone he isn’t sure he can surpass when the time comes that Izuku makes One for All his own.

Episode 23 goes by very quickly as Izuku and Katsuki have a real fight (Shizuku: Or shoot fight, as we like to call it in the business) where Katsuki voices out all of his frustrations against Izuku for always sticking to him, surpassing him and against himself for allowing this to happen, but for also forcing his hero retire. That’s right, Katsuki blames himself for what happened to All Might. At first Izuku tries to go the pacifist route and not fight but his emotions get the better of him and he fights back as he also has a few things to work out with Katsuki. Despite Katsuki’s disturbed behavior (Shizuku: That boarders on a sociopathic) there’s no denying that he has amazing talents and Izuku respects that. For Izuku, Katsuki was always someone he could look up to and was the closest person to following after All Might. But at the same time he was a guy who had an attitude that Izuku couldn’t stand and wanted to knock down a peg (two men following in the footsteps of their hero and each representing a different side of All Might. Izuku represents All Might’s sense of justice and need to save others while Katsuki represents All Might’s desire for absolute victory). In the end, Katsuki wins pinning Izuku to the ground (scene here: https://youtu.be/iMsRYPnzKqY?si=6_rQ1OGwmH0EeQ_n. (Shizuku): Good choice, he needed this W. (Nitsuj): Yeah, he’s been on a bad losing streak as of lately). All Might comes in where he clears the misunderstanding with Katsuki and tells him about One for All. After hearing the story, Katsuki agrees to keep everything a secret and when the boys return to the dorms, they are punished with cleaning duty and a suspension for 3-4 days.

Episode 24 focuses on the villain Twice. A member of the League of Villains, Twice has the ability to duplicate himself and is the most eccentric member of the villains so far. In the past, he duplicated himself so much that they didn’t know which one was the real Twice anymore. So they fought and killed each for 9 days straight (My God, that is traumatic. Imagine fighting yourself and killing yourself). Only one survived and this Twice isn’t sure if he’s real or just copy. This led to him joining the League of Villains as it was the only place he felt would accept damaged person like him. We wrap his story with him meeting another villain named Overhaul who just killed a group of villains and invites him to meet the League of Villains. Meanwhile, at U.A, the first year students get told they’ll be starting their Hero Work-Studies. Normally, this would be done during their second years, but with All Might retired and the growing threat of villains, they’re making an exception. We end the episode with Izuku and his class meeting the Big Three, the top students currently at U.A and their senpais.

In the final episode we meet the Big Three of U.A. There’s Tamaki who has social anxiety, Nejire the most beautiful girl in school, and Mirio (Shizuku: Who looks like the mascot from Fall Out). The class has a battle test against Mirio where he completely dominates them thanks to his quirk, Permeation. This quirk allows him to phase his body through anything solid, including the ground (scene here: https://youtu.be/3UYHzZjJyxA?si=eKyhOV6lLJEGhzRB). After this not much really happens and we wrap up the season with Overhaul getting ready to meet the League of Villains.

Current Thoughts

(Shizuku): Season 3 capitalizes on the momentum and popularity season 2 created and delivered another strong season. The first half of the season is epic and exciting. We get the forest training camp where Izuku takes a huge step forward as a hero and saves someone for the first time. The class also shows how well they can defend themselves against villains and even defeats a few of them. Unfortunately, in the end they still lost as Katsuki gets captured leading to the biggest showdown in the series so far, All Might vs All for One. He’s been built up since the previous season, and his presence here didn’t disappoint. His voice, composure, and presence leave you scared. Despite having multiple quirks his most dangerous weapon is his mind and how he’s able to play mind games with people and mess with their hearts. Just excellent villainy work here. Also, the reveal that Shigraki is the grandson of All Might’s predecessor was unexpected and I’m curious how Shigaraki became a villain and wounded up in the company of All for One.

(Nitsuj): The second half of the anime is slower and less epic but still has good moments. The license exam arc was fun and the anime-only content they added in allowed for the spotlight to be shined on everyone in class 1A and showed us how much the class has grown to when we first got to know them in the sports festival. It’s also here that they establish just how important Izuku and Katsuki are to the class. These two set the bar for the class to follow and they are all determined to keep up with them and not get left behind. The fight between Izuku and Katsuki was good as well as we see Katsuki pour his heart out about how he blames himself not only for All Might but for the state of the world. Again, I like how they play with our expectations with this character. You keep thinking he’s going to turn and become a villain, but nope, he stays true to his goal of being a hero. If you weren’t a fan of Katsuki before, then this season definitely made you a fan of his. I know it did for me.

(Shizuku): Outside of the arcs other good things include learning about Twice, meeting the Big Three, and seeing Overhaul who will be the next big villain our heroes will face. I actually do appreciate them expanding on the classes at U.A and wish we got to see more of it this season. Here’s hoping they expand on the different classes in the future.

(Nitsuj): The animation and music do seem to have improved this season. The shading and camera angles are fantastic here. Bones has done a phenomenal job taking the pages from the manga and bringing them to life. As well as improving on some aspects of the story to make it better. The fight and actions scenes look great as well. Overall, this was an action-packed season and a great follow-up to the previous season and ends on a good cliffhanger on what’s to come next. Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.

(Shizuku): Stay tune for more My Hero Summeria.
