(Nitsuj): Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. We’re nearing the end of My Hero Summeria as we take a look at My Hero Academia season 7.
(Shizuku): Out of all the seasons this is probably the most basic and action focused season of the bunch. It’s the start of the final battle between the heroes and villains that will decide the fate of Japan.
(Nitsuj): Released in 2024, the season also has the distinct pleasure of having the most unique episode number. Instead of the standard 24-26 episodes, the season gives us 21 episodes. Supposedly, this was done on purpose as Bones wanted to end the season on a suspenseful note.
(Shizuku): This season also came out the same year the manga ended so a lot of people thought this was going to be the final season. Thankfully, Bones had other plans. Let the ass kicking begin. This is My Hero Academia season 7.
Opening and Ending Themes
(Nitsuj): The first opening for the season is “Tagatame” by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure. Not one of my favorite openings but I do admit it has a great string of emotions throughout the song. I do like how it starts off distorted and broken only to become clearer once it reaches the chorus. It’s like walking through fog and coming out the other side. A good metaphor for the heroes to keep on fighting. The second ending is “Curtain Call” by Yuuri. Again, not one of my favorites, but I do the emotions and imagery they place in our heads and use for the opening. We see our heroes and villains facing their parallels which is great and shows how everyone is connected to each other. We immediately understand their history and how they all feel about each other. This isn’t just a war between good and evil, it’s a battle for closure and understanding.
(Shizuku): The ending for the first part is “Tsubomi” by Omoinotake. It’s alright. I like the piano and how the song focuses on the villains and their past trauma that they carry with them. However, the heroes come and lift that trauma from them. It’s very nice. The second ending is “Rokutōsei” by Zarame which I like. This ending focuses on everyone finding that peace that they sought after so much. Other than that not much to say about this song. Very peaceful and soothe.
Episodes 1-5
(Nitsuj): The season starts with All for One talking with Spinner and how he’s taking a gamble on Star and Stripe. He wants to steal her quirk saying that if he has it their victory is all but assured. As Star and Stripe arrives in Japan the first person to greet her is Shigaraki (Shizuku: We need to speak with Japan’s welcoming committee). We get to see Stripe’s quirk in action called New Order. After touching something and calling out its name, she can give it new rules. She could make air cease to exist if she wanted to (no wonder All for One wants that quirk. It’s way too OP). The only limitation is that she can only have two rules at a time. One that’s constantly on herself and the other on anything she wants (thank God. That quirk is way too dangerous. (Shizuku): And America’s paranoid ass let’s her run around freely with it). She finally manages to touch Shigaraki and makes the rule that if he moves his heart will stop. Unfortunately doesn’t work as Shigaraki truly doesn’t know who he is anymore (Shizuku: Is he All for One, is he Shigaraki, is he a sheep? I don’t know but I think we can all agree he’s becoming a major pain in the ass to beat). Since the name-calling doesn’t work. Stripe tries to overpower him with the air, a laser, and for good measure calls in an airstrike to kill him.
The fight between Shigaraki and Star and Stripe comes to an end in episode 2 as the laser and airstrike aren’t enough to finish him off and he manages to touch her to kill her as well as steal her quirk (Shizuku: Damn, we just met this character and she’s already dead. Give me back my investment). However, despite dying she still gets the last laugh. Before losing her quirk, she gave it the rule to destroy other quirks. So once Shigaraki absorbed the quirk it went on a rampage within his body and destroyed a good majority of the other quirks before All for One had no choice but to destroy it himself (scene here: https://youtu.be/9uWiNURzfmw?si=HoQgpNoPtSkInVwo). With news of Star and Stripe’s death the rest of the countries in the world decide to back off in order to protect themselves and their heroes (Shizuku: A bitch move but I really can’t blame them for this decision). The damage to Shigaraki is severe and he’ll need at least one week to recover from it which means our heroes will use this chance to get as strong as possible.
Episode 3 is a revelation. So remember how everyone discussed the possibility of a spy at U.A so many seasons ago (Shizuku: Holy shit I forgot about that). Well after many chapters and years we finally get our answer and it’s Yuga. That’s right, Yuga all this time has been the spy. Everyone thought it was Hagakure (we even said she’d be a good spy), but nope, it was him the whole time. It turns out Yuga was born quirkless just like Izuku. His parents didn’t want him to feel like an outcast, so they made a deal with All for One to give their son a quirk. In order to keep his family safe, Yuga was forced to be All for One’s spy letting him know everything that was going on in the academy. Izuku and Hagakure discover his secret and he tries to escape but the two catch him along with his parents (Shizuku: And we finally got to see Hagakure’s face). The three are brought before the police and taken into custody (scenes here: https://youtu.be/b6tXcjLUZFE?si=fN_GBhPgrPA-ZcTd and https://youtu.be/Lr_PDeKPwnc?si=0RZYs7ftHhPLn-Ev). At first, they’re going to lock Yuga away but realize that they can use them to get All for One to move the way they want him to move.
Nothing much to say about episode 4. Most of the adults are still suspicious of Yuga, but Izuku and the others believe in their friend. Even Aizawa believes in him and gives him the courage to break free from All for One’s fear and trust his classmates (scene here: https://youtu.be/aP7zGvltuYs?si=VkC-t1V1KX3KIBfj). Meanwhile, Izuku and Tenya meet up with Mei who gives them new support items. As for All Might and the others, they form a plan to divide and conquer the villains.
(Shizuku): Episode 5 starts off on an interesting note with Toga visiting her old home which is in shambles. As a kid she was considered a monster by everyone around her. Even her parents didn’t know what to do with her so they abandoned her. She grew up not knowing or understanding the world or herself and society didn’t know how to engage so they gave up on her (Nitsuj: No wonder she became the person we see today). In an act of kindness, Dabi burns down the house and gives her some of Twice’s blood that he recovered from the first battle last season (this man will be with us in spirit). After this, All Might tells everyone their plans and they say goodbye to their families and head towards the makeshift fortress, Troy, to prepare for battle. Thanks to Yuga the group manages to lure out All for One and the rest of the villains for the final showdown. Using Kurogiri’s warp gate, they managed to warp and separate the villains throughout the country to start the final war (before this day is over one of these sides is going to lose. Episodes 6-11
So in episode 6 we see All for One got transported to an island/mountain where he’s confronted by Endeavor and Hawks. Dabi comes face to face with Shoto (Nitsuj: Nothing like a little sibling fighting in a war). Izuku was supposed to be facing Shigaraki along with others, but Toga grabbed him and got transported to her location (well this puts a damper in the plan). Despite this, the heroes decide to fight Shigaraki in this special prison they created just for him.
At the start of episode 7 Shigaraki’s fingers begin to mutate and attack the heroes (don’t let them touch you! (Nitsuj): He went to the bathroom and didn’t wash his hands). Meanwhile, Izuku and Ochaco are confronted by Toga where she confesses her love to him (Scenes here: https://youtu.be/9az5rdO7yL8?si=qs6aZHwXEwXmg8lM, and https://youtu.be/rwrjdCCTLcw?si=8_43r1l8IIIGMDuX. (Nitsuj): Man, who knew are mumbling cinnamon roll was a heartthrob). However, Izuku along with Ochaco is unable to understand her way of love (she’s yandere. Roll with it). Toga sees this as them having the same mindset as her parents (a monster disguised as a girl), rejects them, and attacks with the intention to kill. Tsu steps in to fight which allows Izuku to escape and head back to face Shigaraki. Elsewhere, Shoto asks Dabi the big question: why did he never come back home even though he was still alive.
Episode 8 begins with Garaki being interrogated by the police (I want to punch him. So much). Garaki reveals that Dabi was going to be a potential vessel for All for One should anything happen to Shigaraki. After Toya burnt himself, All for One found him and healed his body just enough to survive. Toya fell into a three-year coma and woke up in an orphanage where he escaped despite being told he would never be able to use his quirk fully ever again. Garaki assumed that Toya would eventually die in the state he was in, only to be shocked to find him years later alive (Nitsuj: And unhinged due to a lot of unresolved family issues). Returning to Shoto, Dabi explains that after escaping the orphanage he returned home only to see Endeavor’s abusive training on Shoto and realize that nothing has changed (yeah, you came a few years too early). On that day, Toya rejected his past and the man known as Dabi was born (Nitsuj: A man intent on burning Endeavor’s image to the ground). The two finally start to fight where Shoto unleashes a new called Flashfire Fist: Phosphor. A fusion of his hot and cold quirks. This move is able to put out Dabi’s heat and landing a hit on Dabi which freezes everything in the vicinity and knocks him out (scene here: https://youtu.be/wjb6_L8U95Y?si=PDskHfti0xbrhpOS).
So lots of fighting and set ups in episode 9. We see Mt. Lady lead a force to fight the PLF who are trying to liberate Gigantomachia (kill him! Call Levi from Attack on Titan and have him serve as his executioner. (Nitsuj): That joke was for you, Isis). Mina and Eijiro are in this group, where they face to face with one of the commanders who reveals to be Midnight’s killer (Nitsuj: Then you my friend have made the biggest mistake of your miserable life). Spinner leads another group trying to retrieve Kurogiri. All for One gave him additional quirks making him grow bigger (Nitsuj: It’s Killer Croc’s successor, Killer Reptile). We get to see Endeavor and Hawks fight All for One where he plays his mind games by revealing what he did to Toya to anger Endeavor and throw him off his game. This allows All for One (Nitsuj: Okay, getting tired of writing that. For the sake of this review, we’re going to call him AFO for short and One for All as OFA) to get in a surprise attack and take him out of commission (scene here: https://youtu.be/jMFoEruK9pA?si=3xMT0yqelJvEcpFV). Before AFO can take out Hawks, Tokoyami and Jiro arrive to fight where he unleashes a devastating attack that blows off one of Jiro’s earphone jacks.
(Nitsuj): The fight against AFO continues in episode 10. After Hawks, Tokoyami, and Jiro hold their own against AFO, Endeavor returns (Shizuku: With vengeance) where we see he lost his right arm (it’s always the right arm. (Shizuku): Most people are right-handed you left-handed freak. (Nitsuj): Well excuse me for being more creative), but goes on a rampaging driving AFO into a corner before finishing him off with a Prominence Burn. As they fought we saw what inspired Endeavor to be a hero, his dad. He saw his dad die while trying to save someone. Just when everyone thinks AFO is defeated, his body slowly starts to regenerate (scene here: https://youtu.be/oCVbH4MydGE?si=XkUudKVaWsgdjxHr). It’s jumping ahead a little bit, but Garaki managed to reverse engineer Overhaul’s quirk destroying drug. His drug focused specifically on the effects of the original Rewind quirk. The bad news is that the drug regenerated AFO back to his prime state (Shizuku: Oh shit, he’s got a healing factor now). The good news is that this is one-time only drug use with serious drawbacks. The rewind is non-strop, AFO will keep getting younger and younger until he eventually ceases to exist. While that’s going on, everyone is having a hard time dealing with Shigaraki who breaks Katsuki’s arm (scene here: https://youtu.be/xb8i3fXFkIA?si=JNKCECDLdlrmnV0w).
We end the first half on a tragic note. Shigaraki knows Izuku is on the way to fight him, so he decides to kill Katsuki as a welcoming gift (you need better gift ideas). Aizawa calls in the Big 3 (not the ones you’re thinking of. (Shizuku): If Luffy, Naruto, and Ichigo were here this fight would have been over in an instant). Despite their best efforts, the Big 3 don’t do much damage to Shigaraki and Katsuki refusing to stay down counterattacks him. However, Shigaraki hits a point-blank punch to his heart which supposedly kills him (scene here: https://youtu.be/KZmri1jbS48?si=VBFmLb22hP-2KBuN).
(Shizuku): Oh my God! He’s not dead. He’s not dead. He’s not dead.
