(Yume): No worries. So you ready to review Reincarnated as a Slime?
(Nitsuj): You know it.
(Yume): Everyone’s favorite slime isekai made a return in 2024.
(Nitsuj): The second season saw a huge shift in power as Rimuru became a demon lord and got revenge on the one who set him up.
(Yume): The season was overall good, but received its fair share of complaints due to the number of slow and tedious moments. With the third season coming out in 2024 and covering a fair amount of content everyone was excited. Let’s return to Tempest and see what our favorite slime overlord is up to.
(Nitsuj): This is Reincarnated as a Slime S3.
Opening and Ending Themes
(Yume): The first opening of the season is “Peacekeeper” by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION. The song itself is good, light-hearted and gives the images of characters having fun and enjoying life with each other. It’s the perfect song for Rimuru and Hinata once you read the lyrics. Two characters who care way too much about those around them. For the second opening we have “Renacer Serenade” by Momoiro Clover Z. At first, I didn’t like it but it grew on me. It gives off this majestic feel of a big party about to take place and you’re invited. Once again happy vibes throughout the song and matches up well with the arc we’ll be seeing in the second part of the season. The first opening is my favorite but the second one grow on you.
(Nitsuj): The first ending of season 3 is “Believer” by Rin Kurusu. This song is cute and honestly makes me feel like I’m watching a meteor shower at night. It’s otherworldly, amazing, and beautiful to look that. Just like this song. The second ending is “Miracle Soup” by MindaRyn another artist discovered on YouTube. She started off doing anime cover songs and now she makes songs for animes. That’s pretty cool. This song is catchy and gives off modern day vibes while also making it magical and giving off fantasy-like vibes. Between the two, I do like the song ending more the first one.
Episodes 1-4
(Yume): The season starts with Rimuru and the others returning to Tempest (https://youtu.be/K9q70zCJYBc?si=-0zgwGG_l3bIxJpY) where everyone welcomes him back including Diablo who says that his mission is also completed. We then see Diablo’s mission where we find out Shion pretty much mutilated the king of Falmuth, Razen, and the archbishop but kept them alive just to suffer (so what’s the lesson here? (Nitsuj): Don’t fuck with Shion’s slime). Diablo revives them and they all swear loyalty to him as his lowest-ranking servants. Once they reach Falmuth they make up the story of how their battle gave birth to a new Veldora who laid everyone to waste with them being the few survivors thanks to Youm for saving them and Rimuru for negotiating with Veldora (Nitsuj: Truly a lie that would make Usopp happy). After Diablo revives the king he tells them that in one week’s time, representatives from Tempest will be arriving to discuss peace (Yume: And after what you just heard and saw I would take it). Falmuth must have their king abdicate his throne and pay reparations or become a vassal state. Failure to do any of these options will result in the war continuing and Tempest slaughtering every last one of them (Nitsuj: Last season we saw Rimuru single-handedly take down an army. And that was before he became a demon lord. Who knows what he can do now). Diablo knows he’s pushed them into a corner. The king must abdicate his throne. The question is, will the nobles (who have no idea what they’re up against) agree to this and pay reparations (scene here: https://youtu.be/JT-7aDm3iQs?si=irHQtVSRAoOnP4sV)?
In episode 2 we start with Yuuki, the Harlequins, and a new character named Kagali learning about Clayman’s death and deciding to backoff and lay low for the time being. However, Yuuki intends to cause trouble for Rimuru. We then go to Lubelius the holy empire where we see Hinata who tells us how the empire achieved true equality and peace through their goddess, Luminus ,who is really a demon lord. Once Hinata discovered this she fought and lost to her. Surrendering and agreeing to become her servant where she learned that Luminus rules with fairness. She’s a vampire but she forbids her kind from senselessly stealing the life force of others and only takes a little life force to live. With Luminus in charge, peace has spread throughout the land and Hinata wanting to keep this peace has decided to protect her. Luminus returns from Walburg and tells them everything. She decides the best course of action would be to not provoke Rimuru and negotiate with him instead. Back in the Falmuth, the king manages to convince the nobles to agree to Tempest’s demand after they hear about Rimuru killing Clayman (Nitsuj: He’s the real deal guys. Respect the slime).
Nothing much happens in episodes 3 and 4. A lot of talking about refugees, war prisoners, and characters doing this and that. Near the end of episode, Rimuru tells everyone his domain will be the entire forest which means other races who live in the forest and across the river which is not part of the Dryads domain will be coming to visit Tempest and greet their new demon lord. We also learn about their advancements in technology and how it’s moving at a good rate (before long they’ll be holding concerts and introducing the internet to this world).
Episodes 5-8
(Nitsuj): In episode 5 we shift our focus to Lubelius where Hinata and the 10 Saints are conversing on the matter of Rimuru and Veldora. Some of them don’t believe Veldora has really returned (the man is enjoying his new life. Sorry he’s not burning down villages and doing dragon crap) and they know that Rimuru is behind everything happening in Falmuth but Luminus has made it clear that they are not to interfere which the 10 Saints don’t like (Yume: If you want to die, be my guest). Hinata also plans to take responsibility and meet with Rimuru herself to figure out what it is he’s after. The sages of the nation intervene when the archbishop shows up and presents a message from Rimuru saying he’ll take Hinata on anytime anywhere (he will eat you). Taking this as a sign of battle, the sages give Hinata a holy sword and she heads out for Tempest. Rimuru hears about this and once Diablo tells him the archbishop has been killed and Rimuru is being used as a scapegoat, he starts to piece together someone has set him up (Yume: Yuuki~!).
So in episode 6 Hinata is heading toward Tempest and 30,000 holy knights have been sent to kill the archbishop’s killer who everyone is saying is Diablo (Yume: I could totally see him doing such a thing). We then see that this whole setup is being orchestrated by some family in Falmuth who want to seize the throne for themselves and. . .does anybody really care about any of this!? Seriously, for the past six episodes all we’ve done is sit around and talk about stuff nobody cares about and really serves no purpose in the long run. I get their trying to build up to the fight between Rimuru and Hinata but they’re doing a bad job at it and it’s tough to get invested in it when we know they’re both being manipulated and giving little to no reaction to it.
In episode 7 we actually get a change of pace this episode. Instead of sitting around and watching people talk about pointless politics (Yume: Oh man, I was learning so much. That was sarcasm by the way) we focus on Hinata’s group on their way to Tempest where they see all the good things Rimuru has done. He gave people Japanese food, made the streets safer, and even built a resting area and inn for travelers along his roads (just because he’s a demon lord doesn’t mean he has to be a demon lord. In the second half, the sages once again trick one of the saints into believing that Hinata has sided with Rimuru and launches an attack on Tempest. So once again Rimuru and Hinata are being set up and both head to the battlefield where the forces of Tempest are in control. They’re not killing the knights and are just putting them to sleep (scene here: https://youtu.be/oEDYTi0uBs4?si=McG1fKNuvuQT1h5f) and we end with Hinata and Rimuru finally meeting.
Episode 8 mostly focuses on the fight between Shion and the saints commanding the army. Rather than just outright murder them which she’s more than capable of doing, she wants them to see how fighting her is pointless. So she gives them a free shot to take her down and if they fail they have to surrender (scene here: https://youtu.be/5IVW2dVnemk?si=xDsbU8PY-SZYbC_7). Shion takes their best shot and is still standing without so much as a scratch on her (OP *clap clap* OP *clap clap* OP) and one of the commanders surrenders realizing that this is a losing battle. The other commander tries to fight but gets stopped (Yume: Throw your pride aside and live). Rimuru’s fight ends kind of the same way. He takes Hinata’s best attack and survives after sacrificing one of his skills but the sages planned for this (scene here: https://youtu.be/mQiSBJm69Dk?si=kdf12HpcuY4_8VnD). Hinata’s sword tries to attack Rimuru on its own and Hinata sacrifices her life to save his.
Episodes 9-12
In episode 9 we focus on Diablo confronting the would-be king of Falmuth and the holy knights. Right away you can tell he’s pissed and wants to kill everyone there (Yume: Stupid king. You made me look bad) but knows that he has to clear up the misunderstanding to make sure everyone knows that Rimuru isn’t responsible for this war. So he entraps the king and knights in a bubble to fight him where he knocks out almost everyone because of how afraid they are of him. The two holy knights try to fight him but their spells have no effect on him and it also gets revealed that his class is a daemon lord a class thought to be impossible to reach and is said to be on the same level as a demon lord (so once again Rimuru has someone working under him who could go off on his own and create their own army. (Yume): But they won’t because they’re loyal to Rimuru. Can you blame them? He’s an adorable slimeball). With the knights realizing they can’t win (Yume: One of them actually ran away. (Nitsuj): Smartest knight in the anime) they surrender but three of the sages appear to clean house.
The war between Tempus and Lubelius comes to an end in episode 10. Three more sages appear before Rimuru and the others where Rimuru exposes the web of lies they’ve woven and they took exception to this. Naturally, they try to kill everyone but that fails (hard). Diablo easily defeats the three sages (scene here: https://youtu.be/eqUnmlUFhgg?si=4IYyiCuP_29T4nph) and even gets the would-be king to endorse Youm to be the new king. The other three sages were defeated by Luminus who found out what was going on and killed them. She also revives Hinata where we see her past. She got teleported to this world when she was in high school and her family was going through hard times. Her dad lost his job, became a gambling addict, and would occasionally beat his wife. The dad would eventually die which broke Hinata’s mom and Hinata even at one point contemplated suicide. Once Hinata got isekai’d she received a special skill that would allow her to absorb the abilities of others (Yume: She’s had things taken away from her all her life. It only seems right that she gets them back some way or another). Once Hinata is revived she sees that everything has been resolved and they go back to Tempest where Veldora exposes Luminus as a demon lord to her followers (she told you that in confidence. (Yume): At the start of episode 11 we see a man named Edmaris an eastern merchant who was behind sending Hinata to kill Rimuru in season 2 and instigated this whole misunderstanding between Tempest and Lubelius. He seems to be working with Yuuki and decides to stay low for the time being. Back with Rimuru, he forms a truce with Luminus and they have a party celebrating their new found peace (Nitsuj: I’m beginning to think Rimuru has the same mindset as Shanks. He’s always partying and drinking).
We end the first half of the anime by finding out that Rimuru is going to hold a festival to celebrate his country being recognized as an official nation (Nitsuj: A nation led by a slime monster that just happens to be a demon lord. Why the Dragon Quest games haven’t done this yet is beyond me). There’s a lot of preparations everyone seems to be doing such as building a restaurant run by Veldora, preparing an arena, and sending invitations out to other leaders and demon lords. Rimuru invites Milim as well as Yuuki despite finding out everything he’s been up to. We also get this one scene with a viscount named Kazak who tries to make Rimuru his slave (woah! I know he’s cute and all but consent first, good sir) but that fails and he gets exposed as a criminal because of his ties to elf slavery. Kazak escapes and vows revenge against Rimuru.
