(Yume): Hello and salutations! Welcome to Project Nitsuj where today we’re wrapping our review of Reincarnated as Slime S3. In this half we’ll be seeing Rimuru and the rest of Tempest hold a festival and invite multiple rulers to check out their great nation. What could possibly go wrong? Let’s continue.
Episodes 13-16
(Nitsuj): The second half starts off on a slow note. Rimuru and the monsters of Tempest are still preparing for the festival, with Rimuru wanting to make a splash and make all sorts of fun attractions to make people and adventurers want to come and visit. He comes across Ramiris who has decided to move to Tempest and this gives him the idea to construct a dungeon underneath the arena for Ramiris to live in as well as serve as an attraction for adventurers with Veldora as the final boss (scenes here: https://youtu.be/N7kUKPhrnFI?si=J2OPJuqiEFLHfLm_ and https://youtu.be/dZhZB0djAhQ?si=HAOedIPX3rZl9DBx). We then cut to Thalion, the sorceress dynasty, who have also received an invitation to the festival. Their leader, Elmesia is actually one of the few people to figure out that Rimuru came from another world. But unlike Shizu, Hinata, and Yuuki who were teleported here, he was reincarnated (Yume: And as a slime of all creatures).
Nothing much happens in episode 14. The dungeon gets completed and filled with monsters and bosses to challenge adventurers. Veldora moves in as the final boss, which allows him to finally release his aura which he’s been forced to suppress all this time (scene here: https://youtu.be/aJNIYiJ0aiI?si=Jwn4fIKxQVC1sOEL). Ramiris completes an escape bracelet adventurers can use when the place becomes too hard for them (Yume: In other words, it’s the quitter bracelet. Scene here: https://youtu.be/zOTzdi7tXvs?si=DTm7Kxff3d4m6RoW). They then install traps and obstacles with the only thing missing being terrain effects which Ramiris can’t do. But Milim can.
In episode 15 we find out that Milim came to Tempest without alerting Carrion and Frey, and is jealous that Ramiris gets to live in Tempest and she can’t (because she is manageable. He decides to put her to work and capture some elemental dragons for the dungeon (this dungeon is sounding more and more dangerous by the minute). Rimuru holds a meeting to check in on everything where he’s told that the tribes of the Jura Forest are coming to visit and might revolt against him if they don’t deem him worthy of leading (not worthy!? He has a bunch of goblins, orcs, wolves, oni, and a scary demon under his command. He is the most successful slime monster I’ve ever met). While Rimuru’s accomplishments are great he’s still an upstart with not a whole lot known about him. Is this really someone they can trust to lead? In other news, Falmuth has fallen and a new kingdom has been born in its place with Youm as the new king. Back in Tempest, the first tribes of Jura arrive. The lizardmen tribe give him their thumbs up and the druids decide to work under Ramiris. On the second day, the Bovoids (bull beastmen) and the Equinoids (horse beastmen) arrive and argue for Rimuru’s attention. The two tribes have been rivals for years and want to use Rimuru’s power to wipe the other one out. Things get interrupted by someone breaking the barrier around Tempest (Yume: Alright, who has a death wish?). The barrier was broken by three boys named Liura, Dagura, and Debura who are the sons of demon lord Dagruel who sent them to train under Rimuru and control their recklessness. However, they instead challenge Rimuru in order to get revenge on him. You see, they were planning on killing Clayman in order to become demon lords themselves. But Rimuru showed up and robbed them of their chance (Yume: He’s the one who poke the slime with a stick. Rimuru just escaped the cage and finished what he started). Shion steps up to face them herself and beats them convincingly (scene here: https://youtu.be/zvc4dLBCJ2Y?si=13SQ80KPP_yylkyq. I keep forgetting just how powerful Rimuru’s subordinates are. They’ve already established that if Benimaru wanted to he could become a demon lord in his own right). Rimuru puts them under the guidance of Shion and this display of power works in his favor as the Bovoids and Equinoids stop bickering with each other and pledge their loyalty to him. With those two tribes under his command everyone else seems to fall in mind. The last tribe he meets with are the elves who reveal that some of them left the forest to find work but haven’t returned. Suspecting Kazak to be behind this, he sends Souei to investigate.
Episode 16 starts off on the third and final day of the tribe meetings and it looks like this will be the toughest day. Rimuru’s first meeting is with the Tengu being led by Momiji who has a crush on Benimaru. How did this happened? Well some time ago, Rimuru sent Benimaru and Albis to the Tengu village to negotiate with them on building a road through the mountain. It was there they met Kaede, the mom of Momiji and the wife of Hakuro (damn, Hakuro, you are a player). Kaede is open to working with Rimuru and proposes that Momiji and Benimaru get engaged to seal their alliance. They both say no as Momiji wants to win over Benimaru’s heart first and agrees to stay in Tempest to train under Hakuro who meets his daughter for the first time and approves of the proposed marriage. Albis also likes him along with a few other girls in the village (scene here: https://youtu.be/bMZeQ8ALrqw?si=cMQhQjz9tguYKfhU. (Yume): Wow, Benimaru with the hidden harem. (Nitsuj): Yeah. He’s like the main character of the story except he got overshadowed by Rimuru).
Episodes 17-21
In episode 17 Rimuru is putting the finishing touches on his festival. In the dungeon he finds out that the forest level is starting to overgrow and spread to other floors. If something isn’t done soon then the whole dungeon will have a forest theme and interfere with the other floors. Veldora says the area needs a floor boss to control the area and Ranga suggests the mystic fox they rescued from Clayman (Yume: I approve!). The fox is more than willing to do it, so Rimuru gives it the name Kumara which almost makes him pass out. Despite her cute looks, Kumara already possessed a tremendous amount of energy to begin with (giving her a name just made her more OP). Souei then reports that Kazak has been arrested by Masayuki the Lightspeed hero. Just like the others he comes from our world and has his own hero party who go around helping people. His ability, Chosen One, grants him incredible luck to take down just about anyone. Even those around him receive a power boost and will immediately recognize him as a hero they want to follow (it’s like maxing out all of his physical stats including luck and charisma). Not only did he take down Kazak, he took down Orthrus which was the organization Kazak was working for this whole time (scene here: https://youtu.be/4OlGnrXcw2A?si=oYFck2a3W3qvzS8K. Wow, he took down a whole slave operation offscreen). Masayuki and his party get put in charge of escorting some elves back to the Jura Forest which means they’ll be going to Tempus (Yume: And just in time for the festival). Some people who don’t know Rimuru think Masayuki is going to fight him because he’s a monster, but Masayuki says he has no intention of fighting Rimuru as he doesn’t see him as a threat (thank you. He’s a really chill guy. Just don’t hurt him or his friends and you’ll be fine) and even seems like he wants to befriend him.
It’s festival time in episode 18. The festival has begun as visitors from all around come to Tempest. We see a lot of royals meet with Rimuru and Youm arrives as well where we see he married Mjurran (good man!). When Rimuru gets some free time, he pays a visit to Engrassia to go and see his students and Yuuki and invites them to the festival along with their teacher, Tiss. They accept and get transported to the festival (scene here: https://youtu.be/x1NLXWRym-E?si=boyiQ3Q7Q_aqV0eG). Once back in Tempest, Rimuru gets alerted that Masayuki has arrived with the elves (Yume: Who are all very beautiful). While Masayuki has no intention to fight, his party members on the other hand want to start something (Yume: Oh, so you want to die). Rimuru proposes they participate in his tournament promising to fight them if they can win. They accept and just like that a hero and his party have entered the tournament (by the way is there a prize or belt involved? Or is this going to be a Twisted Metal situation?).
(Yume): It’s nighttime in episode 19. As everyone enjoys some good sushi for the first time (scene here: https://youtu.be/uDI1MdEXwEE?si=OTCJKYDY9hdnvYjw), the last of Rimuru’s guests arrive, the demon lords and Elmesia from Thalion. Elmesia’s arrival is the one to watch out for as she actually tried to use charm on Rimuru only to fail. She then requests a private meeting with him some time later. The next morning, the festival officially starts with Rimuru giving an opening speech to everyone telling them he wants peace but warns them that if they cross him or try to start something with him or his people then he’ll unleash his full wrath on them (Nitsuj: Great speech. Quick and to the point).
At the start of episode 20, Rimuru is talking with the kids who are shocked to find out that their teacher is the king of his own nation (just when you thought your teacher couldn’t get any cooler). Tiss was so shocked she passed out which forces Rimuru to ask Hinata to look after them. We then go to the first event of the festival, the opera house. We start with an orchestra concert (Nitsuj: Well this reminds me of my band days in high school). A duet between Shion and Shuna (the two diamonds of Tempest) follows them (scene here: https://youtu.be/aZjozu6dIhI?si=6l9Nxt7wVOWjSMfX) and then we move to a science presentation which blows everyone’s minds to new possibilities. Rimuru does come across a problem with his nation when he gets told they have no money (well you are monsters). The assets they got from Clayman’s castle can’t be converted into money because the world’s common currency is minted by the dwarven kingdom (Nitsuj: Then, have them appraise the assets to get a value on it and trade it to them for cash) and the stellar gold coins they got from Falmuth can’t be used for personal trades. So in truth, they have money they just don’t have any usable gold coins to trade and use with others. They suspect someone is trying to sabotage them through economic means. They have until the end of the festival to pay the traders what they’re owed.
Episodes 21-24
Episode 21 gives us the event we’ve been waiting for. It’s time for the tournament in the arena where the winner will earn the right to be the fourth member of Rimuru’s elite 4 which includes Benimaru, Shion, and Diablo (playing a little bit too much Pokémon, Rimuru?) or get a one on one fight with Rimuru himself. Benimaru, Shion, and Diablo won’t be participating in the tournament (Nitsuj: We’ve got to make this fair for the other competitors) and after a preliminary round (done offscreen), we get our finalists for the tournament. The first fight sees Boyix the leader of the Boyoids taking on Equix the leader of the Equinoids. Rimuru gave them names and made them bosses in the dungeons. However, they want the title of elite 4 to prove one of them is better than the other. It’s a short but good fight where Boyix prevails and moves on to the next round (scene here: https://youtu.be/QLHxBHuJZ68?si=FMo6e7gFzTuertNo). The second fight is Masayuki against Jinrai a member of his party. In the past, Jinrai was a no-good rogue who caused trouble for everyone. But after Masayuki accidentally beat him, he turned his life around and became his subordinate. Jinrai quickly forfeits much to the disappointment of Rimuru who wants to gauge Masayuki’s strength. The third match sees Gobta taking on an adventurer named Gaiye. With the help of Ranga he’s able to win and move on. In the fourth match we have Geld taking on a masked fighter called Lion Mask (Nitsuj: We wanted Tiger Mask but NJPW was too expensive). Spoilers, it’s Carrion in disguise. Milim forced him to fight in her place. Out of all the first round fights this is easily the best fight. It’s Carrion’s power vs Geld’s iron defense (it’s the perfect match up). In the end, Carrion wins and moves on to the next round (Nitsuj: Give Geld this, he took those punches like a man). Moving on to the semifinals, Boyix forfeits his match after Masayuki says he wants to fight him in the dungeon. Gobta and Lion Mask fight next where against all odds Gobta manages to win after he and Ranga managed to rip off half of his mask. Not wanting to expose his identity, Lion Mask forfeits. So the finals will be Masayuki and Gobta, who will do battle tomorrow (Nitsuj: One got here through BS. The other through effort, and yet it still feels wrong to see him here).
At the start of episode 22 Gazef (the dwarf king) and Elmesia help Rimuru solve his money problem by giving him a large sum of gold (what did you put in their drinks Rimuru?). They suspect that this financial problem was orchestrated by the western nations and Rimuru sends Souei to investigate (anybody else wanna see a spin-off series called: Better Send Souei. It’s like Better Call Saul without the drugs). Elmesia also enacts a pact with Rimuru and wants to know what he plans to do with Diablo. She can sense his power and can tell he’s a dangerous person to have around, but Rimuru assures her that if he ever does go rogue he’ll deal with him (Nitsuj: I doubt he will, the man practically worships the ground Rimuru rolls on). Elmesia also vows that if Rimuru ever does go evil she’ll do everything in her power to stop him (again, this is like the most chilled guy/slime in the world. He is the last person I could see going evil on us). After this, we get the finals of the tournament between Masayuki and Gobta. During the fight, Gobta uses his new ability which allows him and Ranga to fuse together (Nitsuj: Gobanga? Rabta? Maybe Goranga?). Unfortunately, Gobta doesn’t have full control over the technique and accidentally runs into a wall and knocks himself out with Ranga (scene here: https://youtu.be/4U3yhqp36dE?si=ndVz3k58kjlC96KR). Despite this mess up Masayuki conceives defeat for two reasons. One, he actually couldn’t keep up with the attack. If Gobta had landed that attack he would have won. Second, he knows he’s weak. While Masayuki does have some skills he knows he’s not on the same level as Rimuru. His skill gives him overwhelming luck and charisma, so anything he does no matter how dire will work out in his favor (it’s the equivalent of scoring a 100 on a test you never studied for. Every time, (Nitsuj): It’s literally: Luigi wins by doing nothing meme). After the tournament, Rimuru does have lunch with Masayuki where they talk and he reveals his true identity to him much to Masayuki’s shock. Masayuki asks Rimuru if he can be his subordinate and stay in Tempest. Rimuru is okay with this, but asks Masayuki to use his status as a hero to promote the labyrinth (Nitsuj: Be our David Bowie).
In episode 23 we go to the final major event of the festival, the dungeon. Three teams of adventurers will be doing a trial run, so they won’t be going far. One of the major items of this attraction is the revival bracelet. Should you die in the dungeon, this bracelet will revive and teleport you outside of the dungeon (Nitsuj: Sweet! This really is a public attraction. Is there an item that saves my progress?). However, this item only works in the dungeon. Outside of the dungeon it’s just a regular old bracelet (Nitsuj: They’ve thought this through. Respect). Before heading into the dungeon, Gaiye appears saying he’s going to participate as well in order to show up everyone. Everyone is given a revival bracelet as well as a Dryad who will accompany them. They all enter the dungeon where Ramiris reveals that she added trap doors on the first making it easier to get to the lower floors (Nitsuj: Yeah, too soon for trap doors. They’ve got to be lower). Each team had varying results. One team kept springing traps, one did a good job collecting treasures, and Masayuki’s team made it all the way down to the 10th floor thanks to the trap doors. As for Gaiye, he got disqualified after trying to attack a Dryad. Overall, the promotion was a success as adventurers are eager to try it and Rimuru even says he’ll face whoever makes it to the 100th floor.
In final episode the festival is coming to an end which means it’s time to pay the merchants. We finally see that the person who orchestrated was none other then a duke named Muese. He’s working with the Rosso Family who oversee a faction known as the Five Elders who control the Council of the West. They’re part of the western nations and see Tempest as a threat. Anyway, Muese offers to pay off their debts, but Rimuru arrives with the money for the merchants and tells them they won’t be doing business with them in the future which pretty much ruins Muese’s plans (Nitsuj: Now get the hell out of his kingdom. After this we see what Tempest’s next big project will be, building a train which everyone including the leaders are onboard with doing (Nitsuj: I see what you did there. (Yume): I’m a clever fox). After this not much really happens as Rimuru and Tempest talk about their enemies hoping to destroy them, everyone heading home, and we end with a month passing and Tempest receiving a letter from the Council of the West.
Final Thoughts
(Nitsuj): Out of all the seasons, this is probably my least favorite of the bunch. There’s a lot of pointless talking that goes on for way too long. Show don’t tell. The first half has its good moments such as Shion showing off her power, the rematch between Rimuru and Hinata, and the end of Falmuth. The second half started off slow but picked up when the festival began as we got to see all sorts of characters and interactions that were good and ended with Rimuru and Tempest getting ready to face their next enemies.
(Yume): I don’t know, I actually liked this season more than the second season. While I admit the talking points in this anime can drag on more than they should, a majority of them were good and served as a setup for what was to come as the season progressed. The second half of the season is where we have the most fun as the festival was a blast. Getting to see both old and new characters again was nice and everyone being blown away by Tempest and what they’re capable of doing shows just how much Rimuru’s influence has spread and how he’s just getting started. My only major complaint with this season is no major threats. Just minor inconveniences that were easily handled once the team figured out what they were up against.
(Nitsuj): As far as new characters go the one that seems to stand out the most is Masayuki. His part is small, but I do like how he recognizes that he’s only gotten this far thanks to his ability and doesn’t have a big head. Just like Rimuru he wants to live a good and fun life. That’s the one thing I love about Rimuru. He’s not looking to cause trouble or make enemies. He just wants to have fun with everyone and live a good life free of troubles. Which is honestly what I want to do in my life.
(Yume): As far as animation and music goes, it’s the same as last season so give them an A for consistency. The fights for the most part are good, but short. I wish they were longer.
Final Score
(Nitsuj): My final score Reincarnated as a Slime S3 is a 6/10.
(Yume): I’m giving it an 8/10. While it’s the same score as last season I actually like it a little more.
(Nitsuj): So with our scores combined we get a 14/20 which averages out to 7/10. A solid season with a little too much talking but a strong second half to close out the season and prepare us for the next one.
(Yume): How will Rimuru and others deal with the Council of the West? We’ll just have to wait and see.
