After the failure of Shnookums and Meat, Disney decided that if they couldn’t come up with any new and creative ideas they would use ideas they already had. Because of this we got a lot of toons based off of Disney’s most popular movies at the time. One of those movies was The Lion King which at the time was Disney’s highest grossing film only instead of focusing on the whole cast they instead focused on the two most marketable characters Timon and Pumbaa.
There’s really not a whole lot to say about this show. The title delivers on what it said. It’s the adventures of Timon and Pumbaa in the jungle and out the jungle. It’s basically Disney cashing in on two of the most popular characters from the movie. The show was alright. It wasn’t anything special but it had funny moments here and there and it actually did shed light on Timon and Pumbaa’s past into how they met and became friends. They maintain their personalities from the movie although the show expands more on their characters such as making Timon the self-centered egotistical friend who always learns his lesson in the end and cares about Pumbaa and Pumbaa the loyal and innocent warthog who values his friendship above everything else. There were also times when the show would have shorts starring Rafiki and the three hyenas. Like I said before the show wasn’t anything special but it kept us entertained and it was nice to see Disney make a show out of characters we came to love and it wouldn’t be the last time they did something this. If anything it was just the beginning.
