It’s the return of the Mickey Mouse and all his friends to TV in a long time. In this show Mickey and his friends have opened up a dinner theater club for all of Disney’s most popular characters to come and hang out. The show just basically focuses on Mickey and his friends trying to entertain their guest and take care of unwanted guest such as Mortimer Mouse, Mickey’s rival for Minnie and Pete the greedy landlord who tries to sabotage the show in the hopes of kicking them out. Due to a contract Mickey and his friends are allowed to stay as long as the show goes on so a good subplot of the show is Pete always trying to sabotage them.
If I had to compare the show to another show it would have to be Kablam! In the show we got to see new Mickey cartoons as well as new cartoons of his friends. We also got a good call back to some classic Mickey cartoons from time to time. Between each cartoon there would be a subplot going on in the club such as Pete sabotaging them, the group having a problem, or just dealing with troublesome guest. Like in one episode King Louie keeps causing trouble because of his rudeness and in another episode Daisy accidently makes the club disappear for her magic act and it’s up to Jafar to get it back. I think my favorite subplot involved the Phantom Blob where he was kidnapping all the guest to get back at Mickey and the gang. Another good subplot is when all the Disney villains takeover the club. There was also a good running gag where the cats from the Aristocats were set to perform at the club but each time something would come up and they would always get pushed to the side. For me the only downside to this show is that we never got to see any interactions amongst the Disney characters. I mean, we have all these famous Disney characters in one place and they never interact with each other. What a waste. The only characters we saw interact off each other was Pinocchio, Pain, and Panic. I think that was the only time we got to see the guest interact amongst themselves. But other than that I think the show was good. It was nice to see Mickey and his friends again on TV, the new cartoons were good and usually had a good lesson for us, and it had a hint of nostalgia to see the old school Disney cartoons again that I grew up watching. In the end The House of Mouse was trying to be the new generation’s version of Mickey Mouse Works and while it didn’t come close to surpassing Mickey Mouse Works I think it was a good successor. I just wished they would have done more with their concept.
