Rescue Rangers is honestly one of Disney’s deeper shows. The show focuses on Chip and Dale who along with a bunch other animals create the Rescue Rangers a group who go around stopping crimes and helping others. Such a simple idea but a creative story mixed with great characters and themes that I remember well into my adulthood. The show also showed me the team formula that was all the rage at the time. We have Chip the leader, Dale the comedic relief, Gadget the brains and beauty, Monterey Jack the muscle, and of course Zipper the cute mascot and wild card.
Much like Ducktales this show had a great cast of characters and villains such as the infamous Fat Cat and had many well-thought out adventures with excellent and witty dialog with good jokes. But what really makes this show stand out for me is that the show was never once too preachy with its message. Usually shows tend to get preachy with their message and hammer it into kids when they really shouldn’t or need to. The Rescue Rangers never did that. Not once did they get preachy with their messages. They instead showed how important teamwork was, how to look at things from a different perspective, and how good and evil aren’t always that simple. There were times when they would be fighting against someone or something that wasn’t really evil but what they were doing wasn’t right. I loved the interactions the main cast had with each other. They all worked off each other so well and their personalities weren’t one-dimension. While the plots, stories, and themes may not seem deep if you sit down and really think about them you’ll discover that this show was being meaningful not only with its story but with its characters and dialog. In the end Rescue Rangers was a very clever and well-written show with great characters and themes. I honestly recommend going back and watching the show just for fun. Who knows, you might even pick up things you didn’t discover as a child.
