Pelswick is a rather bizarre show and one of the nicktoons I’m not very fond of. The show centers around kid named Pelswick a handicapped boy going through life with his friends, bully, family, and secret crush who only sees him as a friend. He also has a guardian angel who comes to give him advice and tips to solving whatever problems he’s facing in the episode who I have to admit did hinder Pelswick a few times in the series because of hints instead of just coming out and telling Pelswick what he needed to.
There’s really not that much to say about the show, it only lasted for two seasons and barely anybody watched it. Those that did watch it really didn’t have much to say about either mostly because the show just seems like it doesn’t really know what it wants to do with its characters or story. Oh they all represent something like Pelswick represents that common handicap person who doesn’t want to be viewed differently or looked down upon because of his disability. He’s his own man who does what he wants to do and sees the obvious while most people don’t. The girl that Pelswick liked was kind of annoying in my eyes. They try to make her a nice character by having her care about Pelswick and believe in justice for all but in truth she’s quite bossy, spoiled, a little annoying, and vain. She also has a friend/rival who I found just as annoying as her. The rest of the characters aren’t interesting at all except for the grandmother who’s crazy and always doing something that ends with her getting arrested. That’s the only thing that got a chuckle out of me but for the rest of the show it wasn’t worth my time. As I said before the show really seemed like it didn’t know what it wanted to do. At first it seems like the show was trying to teach kids a lesson about people who are handicapped. Don’t look down on them or tease because they’re different. Treat them like an average person and respect them. Stuff like that would have been nice but instead they turn it into your regular bland teen show dealing with teen problems such as girls, fitting in, boy bands (which was the only episode I admit was good), card games, pyramid schemes, freedom of speech, and an episode involving the worshiping of eggplants (why? Just why). On the outside it looks like this show could have been a good moral lesson to people about the handicapped and not looking down on them just because they’re handicapped or treating them any differently. But in the end they kind of drop the ball and give us a Doug 2.0 knockoff that wasn’t all that funny or interesting.
