The Fairy OddParents is Nickelodeon’s third longest running nicktoon as of right now, still airing and considered one of Butch Hartman’s greatest show. The show focuses on an average 10-year old boy named Timmy. Timmy is that average kid going through life. He has normal friends, isn’t all that popular, has caring parents but they neglect him at times, and has the world’s evilest babysitter. I mean it, Vickie is just an evil person, like I really wonder how Hartman thought of such an evil person. When Timmy’s life is at its most miserable point he receives help from Cosmo and Wanda his Fairy Godparents who grant him wishes and make his life fun and happy but Timmy has to keep their existence a secret from everyone around him otherwise he’ll lose his Godparents and his memories of ever having them.
Much like how Danny Phantom takes full advantage of its concept The Fairy OddParents takes full advantage of their concept. Timmy uses their magic powers just like a 10-year old kid would use them. If he gets an idea in his head he’ll wish for it and usually his ideas will backfire on him and get him into trouble and he has to use their powers to fix it and through the process learn a very valuable lesson. A lot of the characters are also relatable. Timmy does act like a 10-year old boy, he may not be entirely smart but he has common sense and will think things through most of the time and learn from his experiences so that’s a good lesson for kids. He also has a good heart, when he sees something wrong, bad, or someone in trouble he’ll usually use the powers of his Godparents to help that person out. The Godparents are Cosmo and Wanda. Cosmo is the lovable idiot of the two always making everyone around him laugh and Wanda is the mature responsible one who acts like a mother-figure and usually nags a lot. There were also some fun villains the three notable ones are Vickie the evil babysitter, Pixies who are the opposite of fairies and are anti-fun and boring, believing that magic should be run like a corporation instead of freely used. Finally, Denzel Crocker, Timmy’s crazy and funny teacher who believes that fairies exist and does everything in his power to prove that Timmy has Fairy Godparents so he can show the world he’s not crazy and harness the fairies powers to rule the world.
I stopped watching the show after Poof made his debut and from what I’ve heard the show has unfortunately started going downhill. The show is suffering from what I like to call The Simpsons syndrome. It’s when a show has been on for a very long time, done everything, and has no more ideas. Rather than end the show at its highest point the show continues to air and keeps getting bad. That’s what’s happening to the Fairy Oddparents, the show started off very good but now that they’ve done just about everything the show is starting to fall apart and started to fall apart with the introduction of Poof. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t hate Poof I just find his character unneeded in the show as he really doesn’t add that much to the overall story. The dog on the other hand is the one I hate as he is a troublemaker who’s Cosmo if he became dumber and unlikable. When the show added in these two characters in the hopes of spicing the show up it was clear to me that this was when the writers were trying to tell Nickelodeon please let us end this show we’ve run out of ideas. In the Fairy Oddparents was a good show back in the day but now it’s slowly becoming a show that’s falling apart, running out of ideas, and needs to end soon to save its remaining glory and fame
