Hello. Justin here and welcome to the Otaku Mind. Let’s talk about Nintendo. With the Super Mario Bros. movie being a success and a second movie already in production, it’s fair to say that Nintendo is taking a page out of Marvel and trying to start its own cinematic universe. This sounds like a pretty cool idea, and placed in the right hands could work. Nintendo has a wide variety of games and characters to create their cinematic universe. The question is how would they construct it? Well that’s what I’m here to do today. Join me, as I attempt to construct the Nintendo Cinematic Universe.
Super Mario Bros.
Let’s start with the Super Mario Bros. Nintendo is already off to a good start with the first movie being a success and with the second one already in the works I think it’ll be a good step forward. There’s so much to explore and so many more characters to introduce. I’m hoping Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings show up along with Wario and Waluigi. We already know Yoshi is going to be in the second movie and it’s rumored that Daisy may also be in the movie as well. This is all great but there are a lot of other movies they can get from these characters. Luigi being one of them. Charlie Day was perfect as Luigi and everyone wanted to see more of him in the first movie. Since he’s so popular why not just give him his own movie? We can base it on the Luigi’s Mansion games. Those were great and you can definitely get creative with the ghosts. We could also do a prequel that centers around Princess Peach. Showing her entering the Mushroom Kingdom, learning to adapt to this world, and her first time meeting Bowser and foiling his plans.
Donkey Kong
With Donkey Kong making it into the first movie and playing a pivotal part, you can tell that once the second Mario Bros. movie is done they’re going to do a Donkey Kong movie. I talked about this in my review on how I heard people saying they wanted K. Rool in the second movie and I said no. I stand by that statement and think they should save K. Rool for a Donkey Kong movie. Have Mario and Luigi do their thing in the second movie while keeping DK out of it because he’s having his own adventure in his movie which would be going on around the same time as the second movie. You can bring in Diddy Kong who will help DK become more responsible and grow up a little more. He’s pretty much the Thor of this universe. He’s cocky and arrogant, but through his trials and adventures he grows.
Legend of Zelda
Next to Mario, the Zelda series has been Nintendo’s most popular game series. You could argue that it’s more popular than Mario, so naturally this would be the next big series they would want to bring to their universe. And yeah, it can definitely work. But personally, I think it would be better to turn the Zelda series into an actual show. Let’s face it, the Zelda games are big. There’s so much to do, so much to explore, so much story to cover. Wouldn’t a TV format be better for Zelda to tell its story fully from beginning to end? That’s not to say a movie format wouldn’t work either. A movie could still work but it has to be two or three movies and they should be at least two hours long. The Zelda series has often been compared to Lord of the Rings and I have to agree. Treat it like Lord of the Rings. Make it a big and epic story that centers around the Triforce and the three characters holding them.
Kirby
After Zelda we move into space and who better to start with than Kirby? The pink puffball has charmed fans for years. They made a show based on his games so why not make a movie which sees him take on King Dedede and then do a second movie which sees him go up against Marx. Add in Meta Knight and we’re good to go. This is where we also start dropping hints of a great danger that threatens their universe.
Star Fox
After Kirby we hit them with Star Fox who serve as the Guardians of the Galaxy. We give them two movies. The first one shows the team coming together and then the second movie introduces us to Krystal to activate every boy’s neurons while giving us another epic space adventure featuring Andross and an evil empire trying to wipe out the universe. We can also add in Star Wolf and maybe give them their own movie or TV series
F-Zero/Captain Falcon
For Captain Falcon, I say we give him a TV series. Once again, a movie could work but I feel that a TV series would be better for him. A racer by day, a bounty hunter at night. We could show a young racer/bounty hunter inheriting the mantle of Captain Falcon to continue the legacy and once again we make hints of that great threat coming.
Metroid
While F-Zero is going on, we give everyone a good thriller sci-fi adventure featuring Samus battling Ridley. Along with Peach, Krystal, Zelda and possibly Daisy that’ll give us five great female characters to bring to the big fight. Peach, Zelda, and Daisy got the magic. Krystal and Samus got the technology. We finally see the big threat that’s coming, the Master Hand and Crazy Hand.
Nintendo Avengers
After Metroid, we finally make it to the big one. The Master Hand and Crazy Hand are threatening to destroy the universe and it’s up to all our heroes to come together and rescue their worlds. Their worlds get sucked into this alternate universe created by the Hands where they get separated and meet each other. Think Subspace Emissary from Smash Bros. There’s dissension at first when everyone first meets but when they all realize they’re on the same team they start to work together. We can see Mario and Link have a short fight with each other. Kirby befriending Zelda and Peach. Falcon and DK having a bit of rivalry with each other. Samus and Star Fox butting heads. The interactions are limitless and would be great. After this movie we move on to phase 2 which gets complicated. We introduce the Inklings, Fire Emblem, Earthbound, maybe Pikmin. I don’t know, things get crazy in phase 2 but they’ll figure it out.
And that’s my crazy thought on the Nintendo Cinematic universe. What do you think Nintendo will do going forward? Who would you like to see? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.
