Dog Days was another anime I was very familiar with and wanted to do a review on. It was also around this review that I had finally developed my writing style. There were still a few things that needed to be tweaked but it was here that I finally got an idea of how I wanted to write my blogs from here on out. With this blog I decided to be a little more personal with my writing as feedback from viewers said they wanted me to be more personal and explore the anime more. And since this anime had a lot to talk about this was a perfect anime for me to put these new ideas to the test.
Dog Days follows the story of a kid named Sinku who during spring vacation gets sent to another world where animal people do war games with each other while also living in peace with each other. We see that Sinku was summoned by the princess of a kingdom struggling in their war games and after seeing his athletic skills wants him to be the hero of her nation and he accepts. From there it’s just Sinku enjoying this fantasy world while making friends, participating in war games, and saving the day. The anime like I said before is really relaxing. There’s really no major threat or evil creature that needs vanquishing it’s just a kid going to a fantasy world, meeting new people and having fun. At the time a lot of people didn’t really like this concept and kind of ignored this anime but now we’re seeing quite a few animes go this route now. Animes like Is the order a rabbit or Sakamoto desu ga all fit into the same category of Dog Days. They’re relaxing animes that you don’t really have to dig too deeply into and can just sit back and enjoy them. I really did like Sinku’s carefree attitude. I like how he doesn’t panic when he gets sucked into this new world but rather just smiles and finds it fascinating. I think this is how a lot of people would react if they got sent to a new world. Okay they probably be a little scared but I think you would be more fascinated than scared. Even when there’s a possibility that he could be stuck in this world forever he doesn’t panic. He smiles, stays calm, and puts his trust in others believing that things will work out.
The rest of the characters are pretty good as well. My two favorite characters besides Sinku is Milhi and Éclair. Milhi’s cute and the relationship between her and Sinku is nice. I forgot to mention in my review that Milhi is also new to her position as princess but even than I do like how she doesn’t act like a princess per se but rather a normal girl who just leads a nation and even though she’ll do her responsibilities she’ll still act like a normal girl and be treated as one by everyone in the kingdom. Éclair is one of the best tsundere girls I’ve seen. I like how her relationship with Sinku is just friends who respect each other’s fighting capabilities and they make a very good team who work well off each other. I was also a fan of Leo in that she be a fierce and confident fighter at one point but then at another point be childish and spoiled by her friends. Seeing characters like that are always fun.
Their concept of war is still great to me. There seriously needs to be a game based off their concept of war. The two downsides I really did have with this anime is that one it wastes a lot of time doing nothing around the middle of the season which leads to the second problem of this season we don’t get to explore the world. Instead of wasting time sitting around and talking I wish they would have shown us more of the world they’re in. I really did want to explore this world more and see some of the sights. Looking back this was a pretty a major mistake on their part. Only showing a spec of their fantasy world. That’s just bad on their part. Another problem I have is why Leo never tells Milhi about what she saw in the future? Her reason for not telling her is incredibly dumb. It would have been better if she had just told her this is what I saw, you need to be careful. Instead, she decides to play the secret card and just makes the whole thing needlessly complicated. At the end this anime is still okay in my book. Like I said I found it to be a relaxing watch where didn’t have to put too much thought into watching it and I liked how straightforward it was. The final score for this anime was a 6/10 and yeah I think that score is still correct. Dog Days was definitely a series that knew what it wanted to be and delivered on it.
