Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Allow me to take you into an average day at Sunrise. *Clears throat* We need a new anime, what should we do? Mecha! But the anime is about magic. Mecha! We also have a hint of slavery in it. Mecha! There’s also a hint of lesbianism. What part of mecha are you not understanding!? Yep, when it comes to mecha, you can always count on Sunrise. Despite the golden age of mecha long gone, Sunrise continues to be the leader of producing mecha anime to this day with their many spin-offs of Gundam, another season of Code Geass which continues to elude us, and with today’s anime Cross Ange. Officially known as Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon, was an attempt by Sunrise to add something new and innovative to the mecha genre. The series came out in 2014 and I’m not quite sure if this is based off the manga or if the manga was based off the anime. The manga was written by Kenjirō Takeshita in August 2014 but the anime made it’s debut in October of that same year with the anime ending about 2 months before the manga. So did this series bring anything new and interesting to the mecha genre or just a lazy attempt to make a quick buck. Only one way to find out. Let’s take a look at Cross Ange.
Opening and Ending Theme
The opening is “Kindan no Resistance” by Nana Mizuki. The song is alright. Nothing really stands out to me aside from the fact that it sounds eerily similar to the opening for Date A Live. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
The ending is “Rinrei” by Eri Kitamura. I actually found myself liking this song. It’s subtle, slow, and gives you a chance to take in everything that happened in the episode and what our main character is going through. Not one of my favorite songs from 2014 but something I wouldn’t mind listening to every now and then.
Episodes 1-4
The anime opens up on a quidditch game (okay, J.K. sue them now. First scene in and Sunrise is already ripping off other great ideas that have been done before. Get used to it folks they are going to be doing this a lot) where our main character Princess Ange’s voiced by Nana Mizuki (Moka from Rosario + Vampire) team loses to the other team but gives a BS friendship speech to make her team and everyone else feel better. As she’s going back to the palace with her big brother Julio and younger sister Sylvia (whose in a wheelchair. God, can you stop being lazy for one second and come up with something original) she sees a baby being taken into custody because it’s a norma a girl who can’t use mana and even though there’s nothing wrong with her physically nor does she look any different from humans, she’s considered a monster in society and must be quarantined for the safety of the people (and here’s the Code Geass racism. Hating on others even though there’s nothing wrong with them whatsoever. So she can’t use magic what’s the big idea?). Ange sees this and rather than comfort the mother or stop the guards from taking away the child she instead tells the mother to forget about the child and just make another one that isn’t a norma all while smiling about all of this (You. Are. A. Bitch). That night at the palace, Ange tells her mother how much she loves the world because there’s no war, poverty, or inequality (excuse me!? You just took a child away from her mother just because her body can’t use magic properly you racist bitch) and how she has a dream of one day ridding the world of all normas making the world even more peaceful. The next day on Ange’s 16th birthday when she performs the baptism ritual in front of the kingdom, Julio reveals to everyone that she’s a norma that her father and mother have been hiding this whole time to protect her (oh this is beautiful. Serves you right bitch). The mother tries to get her to safety, but the police catch them and shoot the mother killing her, Ange’s father is detained for question and Julio takes the throne where we get the impression that he has an incestuous crush on Sylvia (I wouldn’t be surprise if he did all of this just to get her). Ange gets taken to a prison where she’ll be turned into a soldier, is stripped of everything she owns including her rights as a human (except for her rights to be a bitch she still has that), and the episode ends with her getting fisted by the warden (oh this is poetic justice. The anime starts off on a cliché hating note but ends with the bitch getting what she deserves).
Episode 2 starts off by telling us about DRAGONs these strange mythical beast who have the power to travel through dimensions and how it is the job of the normas to fight these creatures to protect the world (a world that wants to see them dead for no apparent reason). Ange is assigned to the First Troop where she catches the favor of the leader Zola who is a lesbian and loves having sex with her troops turning them into her sex slaves (okay I think this anime is bipolar. Is it a dark anime underlining racism and social inequality or is it a fanservice trip with lesbian action? You can’t have it both ways anime so choose one). While going through training to pilot the para-mail (which is basically the gundam of this universe. Actually I take it back it is a gundam, a gundam in disguise. A Transgundam if you will, except it doesn’t talk and isn’t as cool as a Transformer) Ange still remains on her high horse talking down to everyone and refusing to accept the situation she’s in (oh would you wake up already. You’re a norma, you can’t use mana, now fight or die). Because of this the other pilots get into a few arguments with her (I’m on their side) but through it all she manages to get the admiration of Coco a rookie pilot like her who has become infatuated with her (why? All she does is ignore you and throw away your pudding, anybody could do that for you). We find out that normas get paid for their military service (what service, you guys are forcing them to fight these DRAGONs. It’s either die or fight DRAGONs where your risk of dying is high. Pretty tough call if you ask me) and Ange uses her money to buy paper and writes a request demanding to be set free and returned to the capital where she can regain her heritage (Shizuku: I’m gonna have to choke this bitch aren’t I? (Nitsuj): Maybe, I’ll call you when the time arises). She hands it to the commander (Ange: You raped me with your automill arm! (Commander): And might I say a fine piece of ass. It pays to be royalty) and gets taken away by Zola where she decides if Ange won’t listen to words she’ll listen to rape (two episodes in and we already got a rape scene per episode. Is this gonna be a running gag because if so I’m pulling out the rape counter machine). But before Zola can get to the goods Ange fights back (oh you like it rough huh?) and the sirens go off warning the troops that the DRAGONs are coming (one if by land, two if by sea, and sirens if by another dimension) and the First Troop is deployed (Zola: We’ll continue this later). When the First Troop is deployed Ange uses this chance to try and escape (shoot her! You have all the right in the world to do it now) where the vice-captain tells her to turn around and Coco tries to go with her because she wants to go to the land of magic as well (death flag. Huge death flag). Sure enough the portals open and Coco gets killed in a rather gory scene (right the fuck out of nowhere. Also, you killed the wrong girl, kill the one with the blonde hair and the bitch attitude).
At the start of episode 3 Ange just keeps fucking up. Not only does she get another rookie pilot killed (that’s two people you killed in the span of 3 episodes. Technically three if you count the baby from the first episode. Hey I don’t see that baby lasting against the dragons do you?) but when she sees the DRAGONs she begins to panic and runs into Zola where they get attacked by the dragon and crash to the ground where Zola dies (do I hear four? She is just the epitome of failure isn’t she?). While in the nurse’s office injured, she gets told that it’s her fault that three people are dead and how does she feel about all of this (go ahead guess)? She says it’s not her fault, she did nothing wrong and that it doesn’t matter if they’re dead since they’re norma (OOO http://youtu.be/CuOq0Twz31w, you. . .you. . .you die and go to Hell. You hear me? You die, go to Hell, and become Satan’s new wife because you are that evil and messed up). One of the girls dropkicks Ange for her comments (do it about a dozen more times) and the commander makes Salia the new captain with Hilda as her second in-command. After having a nice dream about home the commander tells Ange that all of her request to return have been denied and that her kingdom is no more since the people were mighty pissed about the royal family lying to them about Ange and have rioted against them (YES! Burn her home down and kill everyone she cares about! She’s made more people suffer than anyone in the world! (Mira): Than anyone in the world? That’s a pretty long list. (Nitsuj): Well that is a bias opinion and I apologize for that but this bitch just pisses me off). After that Ange is forced to carry the tombstones of Zola, Coco (who we find out was only 12 years old. Oh God and I was thinking how good she looked in her pilot uniform. Now I’m really in trouble), and the other girl who died as a reminder of the burden she’ll have to carry for the rest of her life. Even with all of this information she still thinks of normas as nothing more than monsters (said the woman who killed 3 possibly 4 people and deserted her squad) until the commander finally berates her actions and shows her how she can’t use mana (where was this last episode? We could have saved the lives of 3 people) until the sirens go off alerting them that the DRAGONs have returned and Ange tells them to just kill her since she doesn’t want to face them again (YES! Kill her. I’ll even lend you a gun and everything. Isis, let me borrow one of your guns. (Isis): With pleasure). But no, the commander says she has to die in battle (well if we’re lucky she’ll get eaten by the DRAGONs) and gives her a beat up old para-mail called Villkiss (you are seriously going to let her fight after everything that just happened?). They all go out and fight the DRAGON where it has prepared a trap for them and Ange tries to get herself killed where she subconsciously keeps dodging the attacks (quit teasing me and die already). She realizes that she wants to keep living (oh fuck you Sunrise) and after wetting herself her ring activates (wait a second where did she get that? It was taken away from her in the first episode. You can’t just make up shit like that) and it turns the para-mail into a super saiyan (you just have no originality do you Sunrise?) and she kills the DRAGON all by herself. At the end she cuts her long hair signally the end of trying to go back home and instead continue on living no matter what it takes. She even eats the pudding that she threw away in honor of Coco (this changes, nothing I still hate her).
In episode 4 we see that Ange gets a little more spunk in her life. Now instead of just being a naïve bitch who looks down on others, she’s become a full-fledged bitch who’s starting to understand the world more, doesn’t like working with others, and if anything she looks down on the others now more than ever (we traded in one horrible personality for another horrible personality. It’s like going to a video game store and trading in your dog’s poop for an Xbox One). Through her fights, we see that Ange has amassed quite a fortunate (yeah I forgot to mention the normas get paid to kill these DRAGONs and everything cost something even the tombstones of the normas she killed) and has the hatred of few of her comrades who still hold a grudge against her for killing Zola and the two rookies. A few of them decide to make Ange’s life a living hell (jokes on them her life’s already a living hell) by pulling pranks on her in the hopes that she’ll be embarrassed or helpless but she keeps turning the tables on them or they just keep screwing up by themselves. We also see that Salia is jealous that Ange gets to pilot Villkiss since she was supposed to be the pilot of it originally (I think she might have a thing for it or something). Back on Ange’s part, Hilda one of the girls who hates Ange the most and was in love with Zola (why, all she ever did was rape you) buys up Zola’s room and belongings and takes over her role as lesbian love maker in the squad (well that’s just good anime right there). After having her way with two girls (damn she moves fast) she waits at night when everyone’s asleep to go and sabotage Villkiss so Ange will die. The next day comes and the DRAGONs attack again where Ange’s Gundam (yeah, I don’t care what they call it it’s a freakin’ Gundam) begins to malfunction on her and she falls into the ocean wrestling one of the DRAGONs as she slowly begins to drown (yay~). She wakes up (damnit) tied down to a bed naked where she sees a boy lying next to her also naked to end the episode (okay that’s it. I’m starting a rape counter and the attempted rape in episode 2 counts. Rape counter: 3).
Episodes 5-8
In episode 5 which is a pretty good episode (about damn time) we find out that the boy is Tusk voiced by Mamoru Miyano (Light from Death Note) who has the ability of Rito Yuuki’s God-like falling. After Ange wakes up she fights Tusk accusing him of rape which he said he did nothing to her (Seras: I don’t believe you. (Isis): I can’t believe you. (Mira): I shall not believe you. (Shizuku): I won’t believe you. (Yin-Yang): Why should I believe you? (Yume): How could I believe you? (Nitsuj): I don’t care). She runs back to her Gundam which she can’t get it to work so she’s stuck on the island with Tusk who she tied up after accidently falling face first into her crotch (like I said God-like falling). When a storm hits the island she hides inside a tree trunk for safety where she gets bit in the leg by a snake and is desperately dying (thank you snake). Of course as she’s gasping for help Tusk escapes and saves her in the nick of time by sucking the blood out of her leg and feeding her some sea snake soup and like a bitch she doesn’t say thank you and says she didn’t need his help (really? Than how do you explain the previous scene of you crying out for help?). The next day, Tusk starts trying to fix Villkiss where we see he knows how to do it. Why and how? Because we see in a short flashback Tusk’s mom used to be the pilot of Villkiss until she died. After that, we get a short montage of time going by where the two develop somewhat of a friendship and might even have a little romance developing between them (trust me Tusk you don’t wanna be in that flower garden. People who go near that garden have a tendency of dying). Something finally happens when cargo ships who are carrying a frozen DRAGON corpse gets attacked by the DRAGON who took Ange down. The DRAGON destroys the cargo ships and lands on the island where it attacks Ange and Tusk where they run back to the Gundam and Ange’s ship somehow activates the main gun of the Gundam killing the DRAGON (but that’s not gonna stop Ange from getting in a few knife hits and getting blood splatter all over her where I think she’s getting off on this). They finally get a radio feed where Ange gets through to the others telling Tusk she has to go back and he understands. She thanks him for all that he’s done and leaves the island in his own Gundam-like machine. Ange gets picked up by others where she begins to act nice to them calling them by their names and everything (who are you and what have you done with Ange?).
In episode 6 Ange’s maid Momoka sneaks on to the island where Ange is at, she stows away on a cargo ship, landed on an island, made her way through the island avoiding security until finally she was caught and cornered (okay there are a few problems with this scenario. First off, how did she know Ange was on this island? This anime and this episode for that matter make it clear that the DRAGONs and the normas being used to fight these creatures is completely confidential with only a few people knowing about it. Even Ange didn’t know about this place and she was royalty so how did the maid find out? Second, are you telling me this is the only island where the normas are being kept? If that’s the case than these normas really are rare in this world or are the DRAGONs just following Power Rangers and Sailor Moon logic and just attacking the same place over and over again? Third, what is wrong with security? You just let a maid, one maid, stumble across the biggest secret in the world with ease. You think security would be on the up and up and tight for stuff like this). Anyway, Momoka is put in the care of Ange until a transporter arrives to take her back which she’s okay with since she’s so happy to see Ange again but Ange on the other isn’t too thrilled and gives her the cold shoulder (there’s the Ange I know and dislike. Still mad about the whole lying huh?). We see Momoka act like Ange in the first episodes (I gotta live through this crap again?) belittling others and praising Ange like she’s still a princess even going as far as trying to make Ange remember what her life was like before all of this norma stuff happened in the hopes that the old Ange will return (spoiled, arrogant, thoughtless, annoying, coward, stupid, and dumb bitch who somehow is worse than the current Ange). Ange refuses all of Momoka’s attempts and tells her to stop it and go away (I do what she says Momoka, people who go near her have a tendency of dying) because to Ange the old her is dead and she wants nothing to do with her past life ever again. Ange’s wish might come true soon as the transporter will be arriving the next day where we can quickly figure out that the soldiers plan to kill Momoka once they have her (it’ll be a quick and painless death where the body will be lost at sea and most likely eaten by sharks). Of course Ange comes around and can’t bear the thought of seeing her friend (probably her only friend) die and uses her money (and by that I mean 4 bags of money. Scrooge McDuck logic here) to buy Momoka making her the property of Ange (so Momoka’s dream has finally come true, she’s Ange’s bitch).
In episode 7 Salia is told to deal with Ange who keeps defeating the DRAGONs all by herself hogging all the squad’s pay (than get stronger. Stop holding her back) and not working with the team since she believes they’re trying to kill her (well you did cause the death of 3 people in the group. One of them being the alpha lesbian and not once have I heard an apology, so I think them trying to kill you is justified). So Salia not only has to deal with Ange but the rest of the team who have little or no respect for her and don’t follow orders. Things get worst for Salia when Ange accidently discovers her secret, her deep fascination with magical girls, dressing up as one, and pretending to be one (well Salia now you know what you have to do. Kill her in her sleep. Hang on, I’ll get you a knife). Sure enough Salia attacks Ange in the baths (if this anime wasn’t so bipolar I be totally turned on by this scene) which causes Ange to catch a cold and sit out for a couple of days. With Ange gone the group starts working as a team and follow Salia’s orders (so it was Ange who was gumming up the works. Knew it). When the group goes out to fight a new DRAGON they find out that it has the power to control gravity and they get trapped within its gravity powers. Ange shows up despite still having a cold to fight the DRAGON and earn money where Salia finally puts her foot down and tells Ange what to do so that they can all go home alive (and get paid in the process). Ange follows orders and saves the others giving them the opportunity to defeat the DRAGON and return safely. Once back Salia tells the others to stop attacking Ange from behind they all agree to do it except for Hilda who still holds a grudge against her (you still pissed about the whole Zola thing? Good, me too). The episode ends with Momoka receiving a message from Sylvia calling for help.
In episode 8 it’s a fiesta on the norma island a day where the normas have time off, relax, and enjoy a beach party full of carnival rides, summer food, and cash prizes (and offer us some fanservice since all the girls are required to wear swimsuits. In other words, welcome to the fanservice episode my friends). Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves except for Ange (big shock) who can’t stop thinking about Sylvia and the message Momoka received from her. We see that Ange cares a lot for her sister and has been very close to her ever since she was a child. In fact, we find out in a flashback that Ange’s the one responsible for making Sylvia handicap (so even back then she was destroying lives). When the two were out for horse riding Sylvia fell from the horse being controlled by Ange which resulted in Sylvia in the state she’s in today. No longer able to take it, Ange decides to plan an escape during the fiesta and rescue Sylvia. She gets guns, kidnaps Misty the representative overseeing the fiesta and an admirer of Ange (you need to find a better role model lady) and makes her way to the ship where she runs into Hilda who is holding Momoka at gunpoint and wants to use the ship to escape as well. It turns out Hilda has been waiting and planning this for years befriending others just to stay alive so that one day she could escape and reunite with her mom (wow, she actually has a soft side to her. And all this time I thought she was just some pissed off lesbian bitch). They work together and escape under the cover of fireworks where they leave Misty with the ship tied up, get on a motorcycle and go their own separate ways with Ange and Hilda developing a mutual respect with each other.
Episodes 9-13
In episode 9 the anime takes a huge step backwards. You know how the anime started off bad with the whole irrational prejudice against normas but started getting good with the whole DRAGON thing and Ange becoming somewhat of a badass? Well the anime unfortunately returns to its roots and in blazing glory. Both Ange and Hilda get fucked over big time in this episode. For Hilda she returns to her home and meets her mother who had another child (one that can produce mana, isn’t a bitch, and probably bi-curious) and named her Hilda replacing the first Hilda. When Hilda (the norma one) reveals who she is the mother freaks out calling her a monster and everything saying that it’s because of Hilda her life has been a nightmare. She even says she wish she never gave birth to Hilda and doesn’t want to see her ever again just because she’s a norma (how could you possibly say that!? This is your daughter for crying out loud). Hilda leaves crying her poor heart out (wow I honestly feel bad for her) and as she’s walking away in the rain the police show up, bum rush her and beat her to the ground even though she wasn’t resisting arrest or anything (by God why is this whole world full of ignorant assholes?). Things aren’t so good on Ange’s part either. She and Momoka fight their way into the palace (you know, you showing up at the palace guns a blazing isn’t dispelling the theory that all normas are violent creatures. If anything you’re reinforcing the theory. You do know that right?) to save Sylvia where it turns it was all a set up created by Sylvia and Julio to capture Ange. Sylvia blames Ange for everything bad that’s happen to her and her family. Their mom being killed, the royal family being embarrassed, and her not being able to walk (and shockingly in her defense she’s right). She says she hates Ange and calls her a monster shocking Ange greatly allowing her and Momoka to get captured. *Slams desk* What is with the bullshit irrational racism in this anime!? I get what they’re saying, racism is stupid and totally unfair. Believe me, I’ve felt it a few times before in my life but the racism presented in this anime is unbelievably stupid. Why is everyone so afraid of these normas? They’re only problem is that they can’t use magic but they’ve already shown us that a few males can’t use magic either but they’re treated fairly so why is it just women who get the short end of this deal? Again, just because they can’t use magic doesn’t change who they are. Even if Momoka couldn’t use magic she would still be that loyal maid who cares for Ange so much that she risks her life just to be with her.
(Isis): Wow Nitsuj you’re really taking the racism in this anime pretty hard. Does this mean you don’t like the racism in the X-Men comics?
(Nitsuj): Obviously, but I do give the X-Men comics some credit, they do explain why normal people are afraid of mutants. Yes, some of the mutants do attack humans and have bad intentions with their powers but they even this out by showing us that there are humans who do believe that mutants and humans can coexist together. This anime really has no bases for their racism it’s just there to be there as a plot device. They never go into the history as to why normas are bad and why they’re a threat to their society. Their whole hatred and racism is just irrational and extremely stupid that I honestly hope the world gets destroyed by the DRAGONs just so these stupid people get justice handed to them.
At the start of episode 10 Ange is being publicly tortured in front of the whole kingdom by her sister and the crowd is loving it (. . .nice try anime. I know what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to get me to feel bad for Ange. You want me to sit here and say these people are worse than Ange and deserve to die while Ange deserves to live and seek revenge against those who have betrayed her. You want me to forgive and forget everything bad she’s possibly done up to this point. No, that’s bullshit. In my eyes these people are just as bad as Ange. They had a racist outlook on a group of people for no reason and tore families apart because of this harming God knows how many and not once ONCE do they feel an ounce of guilt or shame in what they did. Sorry anime, but I think these people as well as Ange deserve to die in the most brutal way possible). Julio sentences Ange to the gallows for a public execution (we’re in an advance society and they use the gallows to kill people? Did the writers for this anime put any thought and creativity in this anime outside of just stealing ideas from previous animes the studio worked on?). As she’s hanging a flash bomb goes off and Ange gets saved by Tusk who following the teachings of his master Rito from To Love-Ru saves Ange and performs a God-like fall where he lands directly face first into Ange’s crotch area and passes out (he would later regain consciousness and say the best line in this episode). Ange, Momoka, and Tusk escape and make it back to Norma island where Ange gets knocked out by the commander (she deserved it) and is put in solitary confinement for a week for being a deserter. As punishment for deserting the troops all of Ange’s money and belongings are taken away from her. That includes her Gundam rip-off as well (what about Momoka, because I know two perverted bastards who would love to have her. (Baron): Who are these bastards? She’s ours! (Nitsuj): It’s you guys! (Corbin): Woo-hoo! In your face, other perverted bastards). We see that Hilda is also in solitary confinement with Ange where we find out her bitches have caught on to her act and have turned their backs on her (so it looks like their threesome has become a twosome. It’s still hot). While locked in the cell together Ange and Hilda form an unlikely friendship with each other and decide they’re going to destroy this rotten world (wow she and I are thinking on the same line).
Episode 11 starts off with Sylvia waking up from a nightmare (was it the one about your bitchy older sister being a norma and you torturing her because of your irrational racist society?) and going to see Julio who is having sex with his chief guard who he likes to call Mama (you sick fuck of a bastard! I knew you had a thing for your mother and Sylvia). We see that “Mama” (I feel like I need to take shower every time I call her that) isn’t human as she has wings (damn succubus dragon) and is brainwashing Julio with her blue spit to do something sinister in the future. Sylvia sees and hears all of this (allow me to introduce you to your nightmares for the next 2 weeks) and gets captured by “Mama” and cries out to Ange for help (you tortured, humiliated, spat, and said you hated her in public in front of the entire kingdom and now when your trouble you have the gall to call out to her for help? Ain’t that a bitch?). Back with Ange we see that she and Hilda are still in solitary confinement (and in desperate need of a bath). We get a little backstory about the commander and Salia. When Salia was younger she looked up to the commander and wanted to be just like her. The commander named Jill was the pilot of Villkiss until she received a serious wound from a DRAGON which caused her arm to become amputated and she lost her squadron. Salia sees Jill in pain and vows to one day avenge her and take control of the Villkiss (and then came a spoiled princess who took away your dreams). Salia wants to pilot the Villkiss in order fulfill her promise to Jill but Jill says she doesn’t have what it takes to bring out Villkiss’ true power, only Ange has the power to do it (in other words Salia, you’re not the main character and cannot do the things a main character does). After the flashback, the island gets attacked by DRAGONs and with them are 3 more gundams who attack destroying half the island with one blast. Ange and Hilda use this opportunity to escape and help fight but once they reach the hanger they find out that Salia has gone rogue and has stolen the Villkiss (oh for the love of) where she does a terrible job piloting it and gets saved by Ange who brings out the true power of the Villkiss by singing a song and gets transported to this alternate dimension where she and the pilot of the other gundam seem to have met each other in their past lives (possible lesbian relationship). The DRAGONs and the enemy gundams retreat and we get a good look at the damage they did to end the episode (scene here: https://youtu.be/0nEJi6pgrp0).
Revelation comes in episode 12. We find out from Jill that the God of this world known as Embryo re-created the world introducing mana and making people’s lives easier and to get them to stop fighting. But even with mana people still fought one another however there were some people (mainly females) who carried the genes of the Ancient civilization (people who can’t use mana) and as a result of this Embryo decided to make the world believe that these people who would be known as normas are barbaric and uncivilized beings who want to destroy the world. With this, the world now had something to fear, discriminate, and unite against thus peace returned to the world (is this anime making the argument that discrimination is good for the world? Fuck you anime). But the people of the Ancient Civilization fought back and teamed up with the Norma to one day wait for the chance to strike and destroy this fake world (yeah, this world needs to be burnt down like now). They’re plan is code named Libertus and in this Ange is the key to them succeeding because she controls the Villkiss which can only be activated by those of royal blood. After hearing all of this and being ask by Jill to join in the Libertus plan Ange says no to the plan saying that she wants to see the world for herself and make decisions that she wants and not what anyone else wants (just join them. You said you wanted to destroy the world well now’s your chance. Take it and kill that sick fucker of a brother). In a more shocking turn of events we find out that the DRAGONs they’ve been fighting against this whole time are really humans who somehow turned into DRAGONs (so all this time Ange’s been killing people. She really is the destroyer of lives). Ange vows to never pilot the Villkiss or kill DRAGONs again and as she says this an announcement goes across the island telling all the normas that they’re relieved from duty and are being rescued (this is a damn trap).
In episode 13 Jill tells everyone that the announcement is bullshit (I second that notion) and that the normas should prepare for battle. Sure enough she’s right, as Julio is leading a bunch of battleships on the island to wipeout everyone and capture Ange along with the rest of her squad for some reason. The normas fire on the ship in an attempt to fight but the ships launch these razor saucers which destroy the launch platform and stop the normas from taking off in their gundams. The military sneaks inside the base and begins killing everyone even the little girls (that’s just messed up right there). As all of this is happening Ange is being forced down into the lower levels of the base to join Libertus whether she likes it or not but she and Momoka escape and make their way to the cafeteria where Ange runs into Embryo and saves Momoka from being killed by a soldier. The soldiers capture the girl who turned into a dragon but she gets saved by Tusk (who saves her in a very badass way). Back in the hanger, Hilda and her ex-bitches are gunning down soldiers when Ange comes in, takes control of her gundam and creates a new runway for them. She launches and goes off to face Julio where Hilda and the others shortly follow after her with one of them getting shot in the head (oh~ she ain’t gonna live). Luckily, however, Embryo is there and for some strange reasons saves the girl who got shot as well as a random child who was shot as well (who’s side is he on again?). Ange fights her way to Julio where her ship somehow gets an unexpected upgrade thanks to her ring and gets a powerful force field that protects her from all of their attacks (they are really pulling some Gundam Seed shit out of their ass right now aren’t they?). She uses this to destroy the battleships (hey, you sunk my battleship) and finally arrives at Julio where she shoots him in the leg and tells him to call off the attack or she’ll kill him (alright Ange’s starting to earn some points with me). He calls off the attack but Ange decides to kill the guy anyway because he’s pathetic and sick (understatement of the anime). As she’s about to kill him, Embryo shows up and stops her because he doesn’t want Ange’s pure white soul to be tainted with Julio’s blood. Instead Embryo kills him (okay new favorite character in the anime right now) and Tusk comes in to save Ange from Embryo (even Tusk recognizes how dangerous this guy is). Embryo opens fire on Tusk, but Ange gets in the way and teleports her, Tusk, and the dragon girl away to an unknown location (looks like we’ll be getting another Ange and Tusk episode next) and the episode ends with Embryo pretty much summoning up my thoughts on the anime (“What a boring plot. Not bad, all the same. . .”- Embryo, Cross Ange).
Well I think this is a good place to stop for now. I got to start working on my Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj. Oh, and happy Thanksgiving.
