(Nitsuj): There’s no shame in it. You’re a wolf, it’s only natural you embrace your wolf instincts and frolic in the nude every now and then. This is one of the differences between men and women. Men are openly perverted, we’re not afraid to acknowledge that we have our own kinks. Women, on the other hand feel embarrass and will hide their kinks from the world until they eventually can’t hide it anymore and it comes bursting out for the one they love to see just like Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka. Often shorten to just Hensuki, the full title translates too Would you love a pervert as long as she’s cute? Getting started as a light novel written by Tomo Hanama in 2017, the series switches up the formula where instead of the boy being a pervert it’s the girls who are perverts and the boy reacting to all of their kinks.
(Yin-Yang): Despite the series only being 2 years old, it’s garnered quite the popularity for being funny and having eccentric characters that earlier this year, the relatively new studio known as Geek Toys turned the series into an anime. Remember RErideD: Derrida, who leaps through time? These are the guys who made that weird anime.
(Nitsuj): Yeah, the anime wasn’t a big hit so they were really hoping to bounce back from that failure and show everyone that they can make good anime. Let’s stop hiding are kinks and take a look at Hensuki.
Opening and Ending Theme
(Yin-Yang): Our opening is “Daisuki” by Ayaka Ohashi. At first I thought it was okay, but after a few episodes in I started to enjoy this opening and found myself clapping along with it. It’s a catchy and enjoyable opening.
(Nitsuj): The ending is “Mubyuu no Hana” by Mia REGINA. While not one of my favorite endings of the year, I did enjoy how peaceful it was.
Episodes 1-4
(Nitsuj): The anime starts with our main character Keiki voiced by the always hilarious Hiro Shimono (Akisha from Baka and Test) your typical high school boy who wants a girlfriend. One day, while he’s cleaning up his Shodo club room with his friends (who are all female), he notices a love letter addressed to him on the club’s desk and some white panties (Yin-Yang: I think I have a good idea what she wants you to do with those panties and eww). While Keiki is ecstatic to finally get a girlfriend, there was no name in the letter so he has no idea who sent it to him. With the help of his friend Shoma, he manages to narrow the field down to 4 possible girls. His senpai Sayuki voiced by Ayana Taketatsu (Éclair from Dog Days), his kohai Yuika voiced by Rina Hidaka (Silica from SAO), his classmate Mao voiced by Iori Nomizu (Yoshino from Date A Live), and finally his sister Mizuha voiced by Kaede Hondo (who has already displayed her belief that incest=wincest). All 4 girls were there to help him clean up the club that day, so it has to be one of them. Keiki quickly dismisses Mizuha (again siblings. (Yin-Yang): And as we established in previous reviews, incest≠wincest) and begins to investigate the other girls where they act normally around him in their own ways with the occasional flirt here and there (which could mean anything really). The one that does seem to stand out is Sayuki as according to Mizuha was the last one to leave when Keiki went to return the cleaning supplies. He invites her out on a small date where we find out it was thanks to him that the Shodo club didn’t shut down because he joined as the only member besides her at the time. He tries to subtly find out if she’s the one who sent the letter but she runs away from him (Yin-Yang: Suspicious). She keeps avoiding him until he finally does a wall slam to get her to stop running (a very effective move. (Yin-Yang): As someone who’s been a victim of that move it really does get the blood pumping) and says that he knows her secret and she tells him to come to the club room after school tomorrow (I get the feeling they’re talking about two different things). He goes to the club room after school and discovers her secret, she wants to be his pet (Yin-Yang: She into some freaky stuff. (Nitsuj): Like you’re one to talk).
At the start of episode 2 Keiki says no to becoming Sayuki’s master (https://youtu.be/MMe_i8PcObI) but Sayuki is determined to make him her master. After that, the episode shifts its focus to Yuika the cute underclassman who works for the library committee and is mixed race (Yin-Yang: That explains the blonde hair). We find out that when Keiki first met Yuika she was very cold and distant. Everyone was intimidated by her beauty and kept their distance except for Keiki who kept approaching her until she eventually started to open up to him and they became friends. Once Yuika hears about Keiki going on somewhat of a date with Sayuki she gets mad and wants him to make it up to her by going on a date this upcoming Sunday. I have to admit the date does go well. He takes her to a movie based off a book she liked (showing that he pays attention to what she says and reads), they eat at a fast food restaurant (Yin-Yang: A good way to relax, talk about the movie, and other things), they go shopping without buying anything (it’s all about the experience), he remains considerate of her by slowing down his walking pace to match hers (Yin-Yang: Very nice), he saves her from some guys hitting on her (way to show off your manliness), and he sets the pace of the date from beginning to end (Yin-Yang: He maintained control even when an unknown event happen. Impressive. I say this date was a huge success). The next day Yuika invites Keiki to speak in private at school where she reveals that she’s a sadist and wants Keiki to be her slave (we went from a masochist to a sadist. (Yin-Yang): Funny how it’s always the blondes who are short and have small breast who are the sadists. (Nitsuj): And it’s the white-haired girl with red eyes who are the tsunderes. (Yin-Yang): Oh~, shurikens thrown). Keiki of course refuses (he knows he’s an S. Therefore, go with the dog senpai), but Yuika is determined to make him her slave so she stuffs her used panties down his mouth as a treat for him which causes him to pass out (death by panties. (Yin-Yang): What a way to go).
(Yin-Yang): Nothing much to say about episode 3. With Yuika and Sayuri being a strike out this just leaves Mao. Out of all the girls she’s probably the most mysterious of the bunch. While she considers Keiki a friend she doesn’t show much interest in him outside of that (Nitsuj: At times, it actually looks like she’s put off by him). However, her time will have to take a backseat as the episode mostly focuses on the antics of Yuika and Sayuri who want Keiki to be their slave/master. While Keiki can’t deny that these girls are cute and would make “good” girlfriends (putting a question mark there) he just can’t bring himself to be in a relationship that seems to focus more on lust than love. In the episode, Sayuri lures Keiki to the club room where she’s dressed as a maid and handcuffed, so Keiki has to reach down her clevege and retrieve the key (Nitsuj: I feel like her and Darkness would become the best of friends). Yuika ties him up and wants him to kiss her foot for avoiding her and hanging out with Sayuri or she’ll give him his first kiss. Sayuri comes to his rescue where we find out the two girls knew about each other’s kink from the start (well that explains why they didn’t get along. (Nitsuj): Yeah, I thought it was because of their breast size. (Yin-Yang): I’m sure that plays a factor as well). They fight over Keiki until Mao walks in and drags him away where she says she doesn’t want him flirting with anyone else not giving a reason why.
We get our Mao story in episode 4 (which they rush through quite a bit). Keiki is worried about Mao as their relationship has become awkward (Nitsuj: It’s always been awkward if you ask me). Their awkward relationship continues to go on throughout the episode until Keiki confronts her wanting to patch up their friendship where she reveals her true nature, she’s a fujoshi author (Nitsuj: Oh God, I knew it). Yep, she writes yaoi novels and her popular series “Shortcake” features characters who are based off of Keiki and Shoma. Mao wants Keiki and Shoma to start dating in order to help give her inspiration for her series (Nitsuj: No! No! No! And in a million years no). Keiki of course says hell no to her plan so Mao vows to make sure he never has a girlfriend as that would just ruin the series (as someone who’s friends with yaoi lovers and not here to judge, even if you cockblock Keiki you still have to deal with Shoma who we forgot to mention is into lolis). After finding out that he’s a star in fujoshi circles, Keiki goes to his shoe locker to leave where he finds an envelope and in that envelope is a picture of him reaching down Sayuri’s cleavage from last episode (got his hand caught in the cookie jar *Nitsuj laughs* (Nitsuj): Good one).
Episodes 5-8
(Nitsuj): In episode 5, before we get to the story of Keiki and the photo of him putting his hand in the cookie jar, we see Mao and Yuika officially join the Shodo club (it’s become a den a perverts. (Yin-Yang): Where surprisingly the boy is the least perverted of the bunch. What is life?). Now back to Keiki’s story. After finding the picture, he finds a note that says to come to the astronomy club or else. Keiki goes to the club (or else) where he meets Otori a small petite girl who wants his help in hooking her up with Shoma (lady, you look like a loli. You’re totally his type). Keiki says there’s no need for him to help seeing as how her small stature makes her Shoma’s ideal girl, but she drops a bomb that throws everything off, she’s a third-year. That’s right, she’s older than Shoma (Yin-Yang: Shouldn’t matter. She’s still a legal loli. (Nitsuj): But she’s older than him. This throws off the dynamic. (Yin-Yang): But she’s still a loli. (Nitsuj): You just don’t get it). Luckily, Keiki finds a way around this thanks to the summer uniforms. He has Otori hide her third-year ribbon with a hoodie and present her as a first-year student. This works and Shoma falls for her. Keiki tells Otori about his situation and she makes the suggestion that his Cinderella might be someone outside of the club meaning his Cinderella could be any girl who was in or around the building at that time doing club activities. Keiki decides to ask the teacher on duty at the time if she saw anyone, and along the way he saves a fellow student named Ayano Fujimoto the vice president of the student council from falling down some stairs. She lands on top of him and seems to be interested in him for some reason.
Keiki begins investigating Ayano in episode 6 as his possible Cinderella. For the most part, Ayano does seem like a regular girl. Aside from being your typical kuudere, there’s nothing offsetting about her. Even Otori can’t find anything wrong about Ayano through her observation (Yin-Yang: Oh there’s something strange about her. I can smell it). As the episode progresses, we see Keiki get attacked by Yuika and Sayuri separately throughout the episode. Yuika attacks him in the club room where he accidently grabs her boob (bad servant. Who gave you permission to touch that?). Sayuki attacks him when he’s helping Ayano pick up trash near a riverbank where she’s jealous that he’s spending time with other girls and not her. In order to get her to calm down, he simply rubs and gives her a possible orgasm (now if Yin-Yang goes on a rampage, I’ll know what to do. (Yin-Yang): You touch my butt and it’ll be the last thing you’ll ever touch). The next day at school, Ayano treats Keiki to some apple pie in the student council room as a thank you for helping her out yesterday where thanks to the relaxing atmosphere and treats they both fall asleep. Keiki wakes up only to see Ayano trying to remove his boxers and take them for herself because she has a scent fetish (Yin-Yang: Told ya) and finds Keiki’s scent the best.
The story of Otori and Shoma comes to an end in episode 7 when Otori finally gathers up her courage and confesses to Shoma all while revealing her true age and he of course rejects her (the lolicon inside him just won’t accept this dynamic change. (Yin-Yang): This is so stupid). Keiki talks to Shoma where he actually feels shitty rejecting her and knows that his reason for rejecting was stupid and that he has to change. He goes to see her again where he says he wants to start over as friends and she accepts.
In episode 8, it’s a Sunday and Keiki is relaxing at home with Mizuha (Yin-Yang: The wild card. Is she a bro-con or just a sweet little sister who cares for her brother?). He receives a visit from both Sayuki and Yuika separately where he’s forced to give into their demands or risk exposing Mizuha to his BL double life. He gets forced to treat Sayuki like a dog and Yuika makes him put on a bunny costume. During each visit, Mizuha walks in on these perverted situations and Keiki has to clear up the misunderstanding (and he doesn’t get beat up or thrown out the window. It’s a miracle). At the end of each visit, Sayuki and Yuika say that they wouldn’t do this with just anyone, it has to be Keiki and no one else (Yin-Yang: Translation, they love him. Yes, they’re perverts but just because someone is a pervert and wants you to be their slave/master doesn’t mean they still don’t love you). At the end of the day Keiki discovers that Cinderella’s panties are missing and believes that it is was either Sayuki or Yuika who took them. The next day at school, Keiki is determined to get answers by taking each girl out. He starts with Sayuki (good choice) and invites her out on a date promising to be her master for a day.
Episodes 9-12
Episode 9 mostly focuses on Sayuki as Keiki investigates her to find out if she’s his Cinderella (even if she isn’t who cares. You hit the jackpot with this girl). They go on a date at an amusement park where Keiki hopes the rides will lift up her skirt and he can see if she’s wearing the panties or not (Yin-Yang: That is such a dumb plan. What makes him think she’ll wear them?). His efforts prove unsuccessful at the park so he just forces her to lift her skirt where we see she’s gone commando for the day (Oh. My. God). After that things are awkward between the two not because Keiki forced her to lift her skirt but because he hasn’t punished her for the incident which she was really looking forward to (Yin-Yang: You seriously would still go for her? (Nitsuj): Yes). She also reveals that she stole his underwear and is currently wearing them (Yin-Yang: Still? (Nitsuj): Yep). After Sayuki’s case leads to a dead end, Keiki focuses his attention on Yuika. After walking her home in the rain and being inviting in for some tea, he investigates her panty draw only to get discovered and forced to be her slave or else (Yin-Yang: So would this be considered a good or bad end? (Nitsuj): It all depends on your fetish).
(Yin-Yang): In episode 10 Keiki finds himself as the slave of Yuika who is enjoying every minute of it (Nitsuj: She finally won). Keiki manages to get out of this situation when he discovers that she stole his underwear to smell and study it (what is with these girls?). With this information, Keiki’s life of servitude is over. However, the question on who Cinderella is remains a mystery. Ayano gives Keiki tickets to the swimming pool and he decides to invite Shoma and Otori but they can’t go. As Keiki helps pick up photos Otori dropped he notices one picture taken on the day and time he found the panties and sees who his Cinderella, Mizuha.
So in episode 11 Keiki sets the trap to catch Mizuha. After school, he invites Sayuki, Yuika, Mao, and Mizuha to the pool knowing that after they swim Mizuha will wear the Cinderella panties (Nitsuj: Obviously, wearing the same underwear on the same day is disgusting. (Yin-Yang): Totally). The plan works to perfection as Mizuha gets revealed to be Keiki’s Cinderella. Mizuha admits that she’s in love with him, and while Keiki is flattered by this he knows that incest ≠ wincest (no matter how much you want it to be). Mizuha kisses him and says that it’s okay to have these feelings as they’re not blood-related (Nitsuj: Because of course they’re not).
In the final episode Keiki runs away from home as he’s really not sure how to handle Mizuha now (they’re no longer siblings, just a boy and a girl living in the same house together and he’s not sure where they’re relationship stands). When it does start rain he does come back home and passes out because he’s been in the rain for so long (Nitsuj: Weakling). He gets a fever and receives a visit from his wannabe master and dog. As the episode comes to an end, they do decide to go back to being brother and sister but Mizuha vows to make him fall in love with her. We end with the two going on a date and Mizuha’s perverted trait getting discovered, she’s an exhibitionist. Yep, she likes to take pictures of herself in the nude and there are somedays where she’ll go commando on us (Nitsuj: And there’s another girl to the list I would date).
Final Thoughts
(Nitsuj): Hensuki is a fine anime. It’s nothing great or spectacular but I like it just fine.
(Yin-Yang): Same here. It is a good laugh to see how perverted each girl is and how their perverted nature slowly starts to creep out as the anime goes on.
(Nitsuj): While Keiki may not be the most interesting character, he does play a perfect straight man to all of the girls’ antics and his wit is good and genuine. While his reasoning for turning each girl down is silly and little hypocritical, he never comes across as mean or insincere, and does still care about each girl showing us that he does have some level of affection for each of them and in truth wouldn’t mind dating them.
(Yin-Yang): The animation is nice. I think the people who did the animation for How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend did the animation here as each character seems to have a red hue underneath their eyebrows. The music was surprisingly great as each piece goes along perfectly with the scene and ranges from being deep and though-provoking to comedic and light-hearted.
Final Score
(Nitsuj): My final score for Hensuki is a 7/10.
(Yin-Yang): I give it a 6/10. Like you said earlier it’s a fine anime. Although it can be formulaic.
(Nitsuj): This brings our final score to a 6.5/10. A fine anime that’s good for a laugh and doesn’t require you to think too much. I don’t know if there’s going to be a second season and I doubt there will be either. Still, if a second season were to come out I wouldn’t mind.
