Project #366: The Top 11 Persona Girls

Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Well, time to start a flame war. One of the best features in the Persona games is the cast of female characters. Their smart, strong, beautiful, and just enjoyable to be around. They’re all well-written and well-rounded characters who you can’t help but fall for and as a result, this developed a bit of strife within the fandom over which persona girl is the best girl. Well look no further as I’ve got you covered because I’m counting my picks for the top 11 Persona Girls. We’re looking at the girls who had the best stories, personalities, and the looks that made them a joy to be around. Let’s end Persona-mas with passionate flames, these are the top 11 Persona Girls.

#11. Haru from Persona 5

https://static.zerochan.net/Okumura.Haru.full.2003592.jpg

The second to last member to join the Phantom Thieves. Haru is the sweet and lovable rich girl who has a smile on her face and a voice so soothing you can’t help but feel relaxed around her. From the moment you meet her you can just tell how genuinely nice and friendly she is towards others, cares for them, and looks at both sides of the story to decide who’s right and wrong. Sadly, Haru joins the team late in the game so we really don’t get to spend that much time with her and because of everything that’s going around this time you’re constantly rushing through her social link to complete it and really don’t have time to enjoy it. Still, despite this, they give her a genuinely good personality and an easy to follow backstory that makes you feel sorry for her and shows off how despite her fragile looks and sheltered upbringing, she’s a mentally strong girl. She’s to be married to a man who really doesn’t love her and has a dad who only sees her as a tool to be used for his benefit. Said dad dies and she finds herself as the majority shareholder of the family business surrounded by people she’s not sure she can trust, and her response to all of this stress is she thinks it’s bothersome. Haru is a girl who may not be physically strong, but is mentally strong and it’s through that mentality that she’s able to overcome her trials in the game and follow the path she wants to follow. No matter where Haru goes or what she faces in the future I have a feeling she’ll be able to handle whatever is thrown at her and come out the winner. Just don’t make her mad or jealous. She’s an undercover yandere.

#10. Chie from Persona 4

https://www.wallpaperup.com/uploads/wallpapers/2013/05/04/82444/e1e4324a4683e6662b5b159635a6cf4d.jpg

Chances are we all know someone like Chie. A girl who’s a tomboy and who you treated like one of the guys but at the same time recognized her fine qualities as a female. Chie’s spunky attitude and optimistic personality really won me over. No matter what the situation was she always did her best to keep her spirit and the spirits of others high. Probably her best feature was her desire to help everyone in need. It didn’t matter who was in trouble, Chie was always ready to jump in headfirst to save others not for some reward or glory, but because she genuinely cared for others and wanted to help them even if it meant putting herself in a dangerous spot. Chie’s other great feature was being a relatable character out of all the females in Persona 4. Just like some tomboys deal with their own insecurities, Chie also dealt with her insecurities and showed us that it’s okay to be a tomboy because in time the ones that really care about you will accept you for who you are and see your feminine features. Somebody give this girl some meat.

#9. Makoto from Persona 5

https://pre00.deviantart.net/85d0/th/pre/i/2017/217/2/a/persona_5__the_priestess_arcana_by_hakuramen-db6sfew.jpg

Yeah everyone loves Makoto. She had a cool look, cooler fighting style, and hands down the coolest persona in the game. Aside from this, she did have some good character development in the game. When we first meet Makoto we see her as this brownnoser who probably knew about the corruption going on in the school and only cared about seeking the approval of adults and nothing else because of her own insecurities and self-worthlessness. As the game goes on we see her break out of that mindset and become her own person who realizes that she doesn’t need the approval of adults or anyone for that matter to have worth and by the end becomes a fully confident woman not trying to be an adult who’s failing but rather someone who has exceeded expectations for someone her age. It’s an admirable trait and I think that’s what won her over with so many people over because we’ve all felt like her at some point on our life. We all have pressures and responsibilities put on us by our parents and other adults who we don’t want to let down and want to prove our worth to. However, we have to realize that our self-worth is more important than what others think we’re worth and by the end of game Makoto is able to come to this realization and move forward in her life to become a better person. Now if they had worked on her social link a little better, I would have put her higher on the list.

#8. Ann From Persona 5

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f8/1d/1b/f81d1b0371e4ec2ecb5c453f02980127.png

The first girl to join your team in Persona 5. From the very first moment you meet Ann the game lets you know that this is going to be someone special and boy were they right. At the start they make Ann seem like she’s a promiscuous girl who uses her looks to get men to do whatever she wants but that’s not the case. While Ann knows she’s a beautiful girl (she’s works as a model for God’s sake) and isn’t afraid to use her sexuality to her advantage when she has to, she rather have people look at her for her personality rather than her looks and her personality is that of a girl who cares for others so much that she’s willingly to put her body on the line for them. Ann has every reason to be a Toth character but chose not to be one and instead become her own person who doesn’t feel objectified because of sexuality. If anything you could argue that because she’s proud and confident in her body she’s quite the empowering character because of it. Next to Joker, Ann really seemed like the only person who was able to develop a bond and relationship with all the members of the Phantom Thieves that made them all feel welcomed and that they belonged with the group. While her social link was alright, her personality and character puts her ahead and even made her my favorite girl until I met three more girls that would change my mind. Speaking of which. . .

#7. Hifumi from Persona 5

https://i.redd.it/d2w02zwv77fz.jpg

Fun fact, Hifumi was originally going to be a phantom thief but at the last minute they decided to just make her a confidant because of how long the game was already. Talk about a wasted opportunity. Not only did she have some of the best skills in the game, but she was cute and had a great personality and story. Often considered the most underrated character in the game, Hifumi is a professional shogi player who’s forced to live out the dreams of her mom who couldn’t make it in the world of professional shogi. I like how she’s calm and shy when you first meet her but when she’s playing shogi she burns with passion and energy. You can tell she loves the game of shogi and wants to be good at it, but her mom keeps forcing her expectations on her which stops her from really enjoying the game and she can’t bring herself to turn on her mom. In a way, she’s like a better version of Makoto’s social link where this time the focus is entirely on Hifumi and her struggles of trying to be taken seriously as a professional shogi player while also dealing with the stress of her mom and trying to become her own person. Hifumi was just a fun person to be around and was one of my favorite social links in the game for the skills, story, and character that revolved around the social link. This is definitely a character I would love to play shogi with.

#6. Mitsuru from Persona 3

https://static.zerochan.net/Kirijou.Mitsuru.full.1927406.jpg

The queen in the persona series. Wise and smart beyond her years, Mitsuru easily stood out as being one of the best girls in the Persona series. Heiress to the Kirijo Group responsible for the events of Persona 3, Mitsuru dedicated her life to fixing the mistakes caused by her family. Despite having no involvement in their actions, Mitsuru feels that it’s her responsibility to fix their mistakes and make everything right. It’s admirable and respectful to see someone who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth to take to the frontlines and lead the charge. Her social link did shine a new light on her personality as we see that behind all of the money and family name is a normal girl who is smart, strong, independent, and wants to be in control of her own life while moving forward. Also, it was cool seeing her go off on her fiancé (something I wish they would have had Haru do in Persona 5). Mitsuru deals with a lot of grief and struggles in the game, but she’s able to overcome it all and become a stronger person who will face whatever the future holds with her friends by side.

#5. Naoto from Persona 4

https://i.pinimg.com/736x/c9/59/43/c959438a83e865ee824bf452b3c4de62.jpg

The first detective prince and easily the best girl in Persona 4. Coming from a long line of detectives, Naoto quickly established herself as the smartest person in the group able to solve crimes and come up with theories on suspects. Naoto’s dream is to be a detective when she grows up but going into a field that heavily favors males and looks down on females Naoto found herself at odds with her insecurities over her gender and age leading to one of the most compelling and interesting stories into someone’s age and gender. Yeah, this was a character way ahead of her time and in today’s culture where gender equality has become a major issue I feel like her character arc holds up more now than it did when the game first came out. Throughout Naoto’s social link we see her come to terms with her gender, age, and gain the confidence she needs to realize that she’s fine the way she is and that she will in time become a great detective that everyone will acknowledge and respect not because of her gender or her age but because of how good she is at her job.

#4. Yukari from Persona 3

https://pre13.deviantart.net/6617/th/pre/f/2014/260/d/7/d71a6b031cfe7db1f4fdc910649f726a-d7zl5ve.png

The fandom has mixed reviews about Yukari. Some people like her while others can’t stand her. Personally, I like her and consider her to be one of the most realistic characters to appear in the Persona games. On the surface Yukari is the cheerful girl that all the boys like but beneath that cheerful smile is a girl dealing with so much right now and has all the right emotions to everything she faces that it’s very refreshing to see a character who’s not completely on board with the operation and the people leading it. Yes, she’s right to distrust the Kirijo group, yes, she’s right to be upset at her mom who keeps going from guy to guy, and yes, she’s right to miss the person she loves so much that she’s willing to go to the past just to see him again because it’s all realistic and relatable. You can’t help but find yourself thinking that if you were in Yukari’s position chances are you would have the same reactions she has. That’s why at the end when she’s able to overcome all of her struggles and personal problems it feels like a well-deserved and satisfying end to her story. Throughout Yukari’s social link we see her come to terms with her struggles and personal problems by facing them or working to fix them. She’s a character who’s locked herself away from the world but through your interactions with her and others in the game, Yukari is able to open up to others and become a better person by the end. The Answer continued her story where we see just how distraught she was about Minato’s death. He was there for her in her hour of need, but she couldn’t be there for him at all and started to close herself off from the world again only to be reminded that’s not what Minato would want. While others may find Yukari’s character off putting, I found her character to be realistic and a breath of fresh air that made me fall in love with her and Persona 3.

#3. Tae from Persona 5

https://i.pinimg.com/736x/04/ac/7b/04ac7b163234850c3d47b8d866b4b350.jpg

The sexy gothic back alley doctor that made everyone switch from Ann. When we first meet Tae she comes across as this creepy woman who only cares about practicing medicine on live patients (and even than we still find her hot), but discover that she is a very caring person who values the lives of others and will do everything in her power to save them no matter what. She has the right personality too. She’s not stuck up or looking down on others, she’s laidback, playful and has her suspicions about Akira but knows he’s a good person who will put her medicine to good use and can even make a good joke here and there to show off her charm. While her confidant skills weren’t all that helpful people kept progressing through her confidant because of how good and enjoyable Tae was to be around. Next to the main story, Tae’s confidant did feel the most rewarding as you weren’t just doing something to help out one person, you were doing that would make a difference worldwide and save lives. She had the right design, character, and personality that made her a joy to be around and one of the first confidants that everyone worked hard to complete. If more doctors were like Tae the hospitals would be packed for days.

#2. Futaba from Persona 5

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/6c/1c/96/6c1c96b9ee7c07d1d5880a8ec829fc85.jpg

Everyone’s favorite adoptive sister turned phantom thief. Futaba is just adorable. From the moment you meet her and find out about her past, you feel this urge to protect her no matter what and want to see her happy. This another rewarding confidant as it was great to see Futaba work hard and take the steps to come out of her shell and return to society while also maintaining her quirky and eccentric personality that we all came to love. Her story may be a little cliché but I still liked it just because I found her personality so enjoyable to be around. I couldn’t help but find myself cheering her on throughout her confidant and feeling happy and proud whenever she accomplished something on her list to make herself a better person. Plus, she’s a gamer and her jokes were a welcomed addition. I could see myself watching anime and playing games with her and never being bored. While many couldn’t bring themselves to date her because of the sibling bond you develop throughout the game and yeah, even I have to admit Futaba is low on the dating scale when compared to the rest of the cast in Persona 5 I still consider her to be the best girl in Persona 5. She goes through the most change out of all the females, she’s cute, she was fun to be around, and she had a very rewarding confidant that bought a smile to my face. You may not get the platinum trophy Futaba but you get the gold trophy. It’ll appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen shortly.

And the number 1 Persona girl is. . .

#1. Elizabeth from Persona 3

https://static.zerochan.net/Elizabeth.%28PERSONA.3%29.full.1822015.jpg

Hey, I never said they had to be social links/confidants. Let’s be honest, Igor is a very creepy man. Luckily, he has an assistant whose always more welcoming than the long-nosed master himself. Each game has a different assistant present in the Velvet Room from mature beauty to handsome boy to scary lolis, but the best by far has to be the cute elevator attendant herself, Elizabeth. This quirky attendant is always full of entertaining dialogue and has the curiosity of a cat when it comes to understanding the world and the main protagonist himself. What makes Elizabeth stand above everyone else on this list is her ability to look at the world through the eyes of an innocent child who knows nothing but at the same time with the intelligence and wisdom of someone who’s lived a lifetime and can offer a different view on the world. What may seem like nothing to us or stuff that we take for granted on a regular basis means so much to Elizabeth and honestly makes you appreciate it more or see it from a new perspective. Being able to go on dates with her and see her excitement on how she views the worlds along with what she says and the antics she performs was always fun to watch. No matter how many times I’ve played through Persona 3 I always looked forward to dating Elizabeth and watching her quirky and wise nature on full display. She’s a fun character who still remains a mystery to me to this day and I really hope they make a game following her story to save Minato from Persona 3 someday.

And that’s my list. How much land did I burn down and who’s your favorite Persona girl, let me know in the comments section below. Thanks for reading, happy new year, and I’ll see you next year on Project Nitsuj.
