Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. We’re nearing the end of our final look at 2019 by naming the top 11 endings from 2019. Now last week I said naming the top 11 openings was a nightmare because there were so many good openings, so what about the endings? Not too bad. There weren’t as many endings I liked as the openings so picking out my top 11 wasn’t so hard. However, I do feel like once again I’m doing a disservice by not naming a few endings. Well, what happens happens. This is your boy Nitsuj and these are the top 11 endings of 2019.
#11. Memosepia from Mob Psycho 100 S2
https://youtu.be/6EC-6tD2h14 (full)
As big and epic as Mob Psycho 100 can be, the series really shines the best when it’s simple and heartfelt, and that’s what this ending delivers. This ending really puts a smile on your face as we just see Mob and all the people and friends he cares about in his life. The song goes perfectly with the visuals and just relaxes you while also putting a smile on your face. It’s not too loud, not too fast, not too soft, or too slow. It’s just right, and I can’t help but have a smile on my face whenever I listen to the song and think of Mob and how much he’s grown.
#10. Sasayakana Shukusai from Danmachi S2
https://youtu.be/l0RylyveiRs (full)
This was definitely a better ending then the first season’s ending. Just like the anime, there’s a level of charm to it that just makes you happy. Whenever I hear I just keep imagining Bell in a suit and top hat dancing on a stage in front of Hestia and she just has the cutest smile on her face watching the person cares for the most do his best to make her happy. While the animation for this ending is a huge spoiler in the anime, I will give it credit and say that it matches up well with the song as well as shows off how Hestia not only cares for Bell but all of the members in her familia and how she welcomes them. Just like a Mob, a good ending that leaves a smile on my face.
#9. Against all gods from Black Clover
https://youtu.be/XjNedWLa0Eg (live)
Black Clover continues to have good ending songs in their anime, but I never thought I would hear m-flo make a song for them. I was surprise to hear a rather slow-paced and catchy song as opposed to a more fast-paced songs. The instrumental and beat of this song is just great. I think the perfect image to sum up this song is that shot of Asta in episode 100 where he’s just laying in the water and his sword goes into his grimoire. It’s sad but there’s this sense of peace and hope that despite this slip up that he’ll get back up and overcome the odds just like he always has up until this point. An interesting choice for an ending song but a choice that paid off and gave us another great ending from this series.
#8. This is Yuusha, but Zannen!? from If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord
This is an ending I instantly fell in love with when I first heard it. It’s catchy, cute, and the fact that Dale sings this song just makes the song all the more enjoyable. The song pretty much encapsulates everyone’s feelings for Latina. She’s so adorable and sweet that you can’t help but fall in love with her, want to protect her, and just want to see her smile. An enjoyable song that makes us all wish we had someone like Latina in our lives.
#7. Chizu ga Nakutemo Modoru kara from One Punch Man S2
One of the things I find interesting about One Punch Man is how it has a badass opening but a slow emotional ending. Yet, it works. This is a very beautiful song which is sung by the VA of Saitama (who knew the man could sing) that just pulls at your heartstrings. There’s really not that much to say about this other than it’s a beautiful that’s full of emotions and makes you love Saitama more.
#6. One Wish from Special 7
https://youtu.be/INpgJJP11vo (music video)
This was an anime that started off promising but just fell apart as the series went on. However, the ending theme was very good. It’s heartwarming and encouraging. Done by SCREEN Mode who I haven’t heard for quite some time now, it’s good to see these guys deliver on great music. I love the violins in this song mixed in with the sound of rock music. I don’t know, I just find that pleasing to the ears. The anime may have led to a disappointment, but the ending and opening for that matter were great to listen to.
#5. Veil from Fire Force
https://youtu.be/n7VZxg9pxkg (music video)
This is an ending that was straight fire. It’s starts off perfectly with those first 14 seconds being slow and peaceful but than it picks up the pace and gets funky. The guitar in this opening is just great and I like how the lyrics are full of both despair and hope. Many people have argued that the ending is better than the opening and yeah I have to agree with them. This ending is sad but it’s a good kind of sadness if that makes sense. This ending captures that sadness that we’ve all experienced in our lives and puts it into words how we’re feeling and how we all want to do something to rid of that sadness but can’t. However, we will hold on to the hope that we’ll move on from this sadness and learn that we don’t have to go through it alone. A sad ending but an ending I enjoyed listening to.
#4. Ijin tachi no Jikan from Assassins Pride
If I had to describe this ending in one word it would be relaxing. From the singing to the instrumental to the scenery, it’s like a lullaby being sung to a child who can’t sleep. There’s this sense of warmth and peace to the song. This song serves as a good representation of the relationship between Melida and Kufa. Before Kufa entered Melida’s life her life was filled with nothing but loneliness, sadness, and darkness. However, Kufa changed all of that. He became the light in her life and through his teachings and support Melida was able to find happiness and companions. A sweet that was favorite ending from the fall lineup.
#3. Drown from Vinland Saga
https://youtu.be/tOB7etQYnPM (full)
I know some of you were mad I didn’t put the openings from Vinland Saga in the list last week, but here’s the ending to make up for it. The atmosphere of this song is just amazing. In an anime revolving around Vikings, this ending makes you feel like you’re about to enter Valhalla. This ending just fits perfectly with the series that I couldn’t see it working anywhere else but in Vinland Saga. When I first heard this ending I was bopping my head because the beat was hypnotic and the singer just pulls me into the song with her voice. This was definitely my favorite ending from the anime and I hope they bring her back for the second season.
#2. Sayonaragokko from Dororo
https://youtu.be/-SjrlKsibqM (full)
This is such a bittersweet song that perfectly describes what we the viewers felt at the end of almost every episode. The song does a good job summing Hyakkimaru’s experience. He’s sad and in pain but continues to move forward to reclaim what rightfully belongs to him all while discovering that he has something valuable to live for. The song can also sum up Dororo’s experience into how he wants to help Hyakkimaru and tries his best to understand his situation but just can’t. All he can do is just be there for him and let him know that he’s not alone. You honestly can’t help but get teary eyed listening to this ending because of what the characters are going through and how much you hope they get a happy ending that they deserve. The ending does a good job blending together modern music while also sounding like something you would hear in the feudal era of Japan. Between the opening and ending it’s hard to choose which one I liked more but I honestly find myself liking the ending a little more than the opening just for the emotions I get from listening to it.
#1. LIFE from Dr. Stone
https://youtu.be/et4fYTAJWL0 (music video)
I’m 10 billion percent sure everyone saw this coming. It was a close tie between this song and Sayonaragokko but I choose LIFE for two reasons. First off, that early 2000s vibe. This song gives you that early 2000s vibe that me and my friends used to enjoy listening to. I actually still enjoy listening to music like that to this day. Second, replay value. As much as I love Sayonaragokko it’s not something I could see myself listening to every day, I would only listen to it on special occasions or when I’m in the mood. LIFE on the other hand is something I would listen to on a regular basis. In fact, I actually do listen to it on my phone when I’m driving or at work when I’m doing paperwork. The artist for this song is only 22 years old and he sounds great here. His rapping is great and the overall mood of the song makes it fun to listen to. While I have nothing against the second ending in the anime, I still think this ending was the better one and is my pick for the best ending of 2019.
And that’s my list. Did I forget any, I’m sure I did? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.
