Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Well seeing as how we’re in the month of October the month of horror I think it’s only fair to take a look at horror theme anime. That’s why I’m dedicating the month of October to a little something I like to call Ani-ween MUHAHAHAHAHAHA! Let’s start by talking about horror movies. No, not real horror based movies I’m talking about horror movies that are so bad that the thought of just sitting down and watching them makes you cringe with fear. For me one of these horror movies is the Twilight Saga. Yeah, like I even need to go into how much these movies suck. Not only are the actors emotionless zombies but the series just comes up to the lore of Vampires and Werewolves and just kicks it right in the balls and spits in its face. But I like to propose an idea to you the reader. What would happen if Twilight was done correctly? Oh, I can’t see it but I know you just gave me a shocked look. What would happen if Twilight was done correctly, well my answer to this question is that it would be something like today’s anime Rosario + Vampire. Based off the manga under the same name written by Akihisa Ikeda (the same person who wrote Kiruto) in 2004 and still ongoing to this day, Rosario + Vampire is the Japanese equivalent of Twilight done correctly and appropriately. The story centers around a high school boy who accidently gets enrolled into a school for monsters and demons. The problem is monsters and demons hate humans and have been known to kill them and since the protagonist is human his life is in danger. At the school he befriends a beautiful vampire girl who finds out about his secret and decides to protect his secret and him from all the other students. After the first half of the series ended in 2007, the anime studio Gonzo (the same guys who gave us Afro Samurai and Kaze no Stigma) decided to make an anime out of the series in 2008 (which was around the same time Gonzo was going through financial struggles). Let’s see why the Japanese version of Twilight outshines the sparkle sparkle American version this is Rosario + Vampire.
Opening and Ending theme
The opening for this anime is “Cosmic Love” sung by Nana Mizuki who you might remember also sang the opening for Dog Days. It’s a very good song. The beat is good, energetic and fun to listen to. As always Nana Mizuki has an excellent singing voice. She has total control of the tone in her voice, is hitting her high notes excellently, and seems to be having fun while singing it. The ending for the anime is “Dancing in the velvet moon” sung once again by Nana Mizuki. Once again a very good song sung by Nana Mizuki. This song is also energetic but it’s a little darker and slower than the opening which matches the dark theme of the series. I like the piano in the song and it almost feels like a fast-paced waltz song. I could actually picture a sword fight going on while this song is playing in the background.
Episodes 1-4
We start the anime off with our male protagonist Tsukune voiced by Daisuke Kishio (Loki from Fairy Tail) on a bus heading to his new school Youkai Academy (wait, the school is called Youkai academy? Which stands for Monster Academy. YOU NEVER STOPPED TO QUESTION WHY THE SCHOOL IS CALLED MONSTER ACADEMY!? And for that matter why didn’t he look up any information online about the school? It’s the 21st century man stop living in the Stone Age and get hip to the technology age). On the bus the driver tells him to be mentally prepared for his school life (http://images2.fanpop.com/image/photos/10500000/Bus-Driver-rosario-vampire-10595695-640-377.jpg, you sure this guy should be driving a bus he’s clearly a lunatic) and they pass through a tunnel where all electrical devices stop working and get transported into the realm of monsters. As he’s walking towards the school he gets run over by a bicycle (you bastard why don’t you watch where you’re going) being ridden by a beautiful pink-haired vampire girl (well hello lovely lady. Please excuse my harsh words and let me take you to the nearest resting area to nurse any injuries you might have). This lovely girl next door is our female protagonist Moka voiced by Nana Mizuki (Hakuei from Magi. Wow, she sang the opening and ending theme and is voicing the female lead. She must have one hell of a manager to land her all these important roles) she apologizes for running him over and after getting a whiff of his blood she gives into her vampire instincts and bites his neck (if she likes the blood in his neck wait till she gets a taste of his blood below the waist). They quickly become friends and rush off to school where we see that there homeroom is a catgirl (you give me an A, I’ll slip you some catnip). She tells the class that Youkai academy is an academy for monsters to help them coexist with humans and that students are required to stay in their human forms unless told otherwise. After class Moka and Tsukune talk and he notices how Moka doesn’t look or act at all like a vampire (so you want her to suck out your blood and leave you in a state of death? You masochist male leads have strange fetishes and you have my sympathy). She reveals that the Rosario around her neck suppresses her vampire powers but when it’s removed she’ll turn into a true vampire. It’s also said she can’t remove it herself (well that’s a major flaw in the seal, what happens if somebody tries to rape her is she supposed to destroy them with her cuteness or put her hands on the wall and just say “pound this bitch in heat right now”). After their talk and realizing that he’s in a school full of monsters who will most likely kill him (took him long enough) Tsukune decides to leave the school but Moka won’t let him (love~). He exposes his identity as a human and says that a human and monster being friends is impossible and runs off to the bus stop (I don’t give a damn if she was Ultimate Hellsing Alucard’s daughter you do not pass up on a befriending a hot girl like that). Moka goes after him but she gets stopped by Saizou another student from their class who wants Moka to be his woman. He reveals his true form to be an orc and begins covering Moka in saliva (you’re supposed to cover her in a lot of things but saliva isn’t one of them) and beating her up (this is what you call establishing dominance in a relationship). Tsukune comes in to protect her but he gets knocked down a hill (well you’re terrible at this aren’t you) followed by Moka who goes to check on him. He apologizes and says he wants to be her friend (friends with benefits if you know what I mean *nudge nudge wink wink*) and removes her Rosario before passing out which allows her to transform into her true vampire form. It’s quite the transformation scene, the sky turns dark, her eyes become blood red, her hair becomes as silver as the moon, her shirt opens up and her skirt becomes shorter (well it did say it was ecchi in the genre bar. It’s Japan roll with it). She takes care of Saizou by giving him a swift kick to the face knocking him out (Strong and violent, I like this vampire side of her). We then cut to Tsukune waking up and seeing that the next bus won’t be coming until next month so he has no choice but to stay in the academy until then (plot device~ *shakes fist in air*).
The next two episodes serves as introductions to are next two monster girls in the series (that’s right folks this is a harem anime. What were you expecting? If it’s an ecchi anime chances are a harem can’t be too far behind). Episode 2 introduces us to Kurumu voiced by Misato Fukuen (Yami from To Love Ru), a big-breasted blue-haired succubus who wants to turn all the boys in the school into her very own harem (slut, get your freshly baked slut character here) but Moka keeps stealing all the boys attention away from her. So in order to get Moka out of the picture she tries to steal Tsukune away from her by using her succubus powers to brainwash him into being her slave and make him hate Moka (well this is no different from what other women do to their enemies if you ask me). The plan works and she tries to complete her conquest by having sex with Tsukune (did I miss something? Where in the plan did it say that Tsukune was gonna knock on Heaven’s door). But Tsukune fights back and is able to break free of her mind control (. . .did he just cockblock himself? Is that even possible?) angering Kurumu so much that she decides to kill him (this escalated quickly) but Moka comes in and the two start to fight. At first, Kurumu has the upper hand but Tsukune takes off the Rosario and Moka just starts to own Kurumu with her Capt. Falcon like vampire kicks. As she’s about to go in for the kill (Inner Moka: nobody tries to steal my blood bank and gets away with it) Tsukune stops her saying that’s enough and she backs off but she gives him a warning saying that while the Outer Moka was concerned for his safety she didn’t want anybody to steal her blood bank and puts the Rosario back on. The next day Kurumu admits to have fallen completely for Tsukune and vows to make him her boyfriend and a fight ensues between Moka and Kurumu to end the episode (2 girls and a month hasn’t even past, this guy moves fast).
In episode 3 we get to meet Yukari a loli which girl who is a child prodigy and said to be the smartest student in the school. She’s voiced by Kimiko Koyama. Because of her high intelligence and age her classmates come to despise her and make fun of her so she decides to get back at them by playing pranks on them. She develops a crush on Moka after being saved by her and begins following her around school while groping her breast (and the age for experimenting with one’s sexuality has dropped yet again). After seeing how close Moka and Tsukune are she begins torturing him until he has enough and snaps on her causing her to runaway crying. After Moka goes running after her Kurumu tells Tsukune that witches are seen as outsiders not only in the human world but the monster world as well because of their human blood. After realizing that he and Yukari are alike, two people who can’t be accepted into the world of monsters he goes to look for her. We then cut to Yukari being dragged to the school swamp by the class representative of her class and his lackeys who want to teach Yukari a lesson (you guys are seriously gonna beat up a 12 year old girl!? Get a life). They reveal themselves to be lizard men who want to eat her but Moka comes in, talks to Yukari about being honest with her feelings and completely changes the mood while ignoring the lizard men (Lizard man 1: Dude! Did this bitch just completely ignore us? (Lizard man 2): Are we really that non-threatening? (Lizard man 3): We are so going to eat your asses when you are done talking to each other). Pissed about being ignored the lizard men try to attack Yukari but Tsukune comes in to protect her while getting injured (well I give the guy some credit, he’s at least doing a better job than Koukin from Ikkitousen. If he was protecting Yukari she would have been dead by now). He manages to remove the Rosario on Moka which allows her to kick ass and suck blood (and she’s all out of asses to kick). A few days go by and we find out that Yukari apologized for her misdeeds to her classmates and starts to get along with them. We also find out that she still has feelings for Moka but also has developed feelings for Tsukune and wants the three of them to have a threesome one day (wow she went from lesbian to bi in one episode. Looks like Tsukune caught himself a bisexual loli for his harem).
In episode 4 a month has passed and the next bus to the human world will be arriving in a few things and Tsukune has to decide if he wants to stay or go home. While he’s deciding on what to do the leaders of Moka, Kurumu, and Yukari’s fan club known as the Love Alliance (even though they’re the only members) attack Tsukune for stealing the affection of their idols with paper speakerphones (you guys are thinking small. If you really want revenge on the guy who stole your idols follow the code of the FFF from Baka and Test). On the day the bus is to arrive Tsukune packs up his things and goes to the bus stop to wait for the bus to arrive (coward. Coward~!). At the stop the Love Alliance shows up to destroy Tsukune since he’s outside school boundaries and they’re free to do whatever they want now. They transform into. . .I don’t know what the hell they are the only one I can recognize is the umbrella monster the others are a faceless monster and a long neck monster (I think the author had too much Kir Royale when he made these demons). They fight him but Moka and the others come in and you know what happens. Rosario gets taken off and Moka kicks their asses. After the fight they all beg Tsukune to stay even the Inner Moka doesn’t want him to go (Inner Moka: It’s not like I want you to stay because I like you or anything it’s just that finding a good blood bank is hard nowadays). But Tsukune tells them he’s not leaving at all, he just wanted to give some letters to the driver so that he could deliver them to his parents to let them know that he’s okay and that he’s made some good friends. At the end of the episode we find out that the dorms now have a red phone that allows them to make calls to the human world and that the bus schedule is now once a day instead of once a month (and with that the plot device has served its purpose. Now go, there are other animes who need you).
Episodes 5-8
Its club day in episode 5 and all the clubs are eager to recruit new students to join their club and Tsukune and Moka are looking for one to join together. They get to the booths but all of the clubs are either weird or disturbing such as the acupuncture club, the mummy club, and morbid pictures club (how the hell did these clubs get approved by the school? Have you guys seen a human school these aren’t clubs you would find in a normal school). But they finally find one good and normal club (well as normal as things can get in a school for monsters) the swimming club an all girls club which Tsukune seems eager to join (geez I can’t imagine why) but Moka is quite hesitant because she’s a vampire and isn’t very good with water because it saps away her demonic energy (wait, I thought vampires couldn’t handle holy water? So are you telling me Dracula could have been killed this whole time by splashing a bucket of water on him? What a twist; in more ways than one). Eventually Kurumu and Yukari show up and we see an all-girls pool competition begin (it’s pretty tedious it’s just an excuse to show fanservice. Well if you’ve got a pool might as well put it to good use I say). After festivities are done the members of the clubs reveal themselves to be mermaids who suck the life out of males to stay alive (huh? Well that explains the lack of guys in the club I thought it was weird that it was an all-girls club to begin with). The mermaids take an interest in Tsukune since he smells like a human which they love (a mermaid orgy. . .that’s kinda hot) and plan to each take turns sucking out his energy but Moka comes back and tries to save him by jumping into the water and drowning (what was the plan again). Tsukune goes to her and removes her Rosario which means (say it with me now) she kicks ass and sucks blood and she’s all out of asses to kick. Even though she wins she’s still pissed off as Tsukune for not understanding her (as well as she should be). At the end he apologizes to her and their homeroom teacher advises them to join the newspaper club which they decide to do along with Yukari and Kurumu.
Not much can be said at about 6. We get introduced to Gin the president of the newspaper club. While he seems like a nice guy he’s actually a pervert who goes around peeping at girls changing (a young Master Roshi if you ask me). He’s voiced by Seki Tomokazu (Sousuke from the Full Metal Panic series). He tricks the girls into believing that Tsukune is the serial peeper who’s been spying on girls (and they fall for it too. Seriously, you guys hang around him all the time don’t you think you would have noticed by now if he was a peeper or not? Use your heads. Hell, you guys are trying to get inside his pants each day. If anything you guys are the perverts from my perspective) so that Moka will hate him and he’ll be able to move in on her. His plan seems to working but Kurumu and Yukari do a little investigating themselves and find out that Gin is the serial peeper and clear Tsukune’s name (well done Sherlocks). With his plan foiled he decides to take Moka by force and transforms into his true form a werewolf. He fights Moka and manages to last longer than the other monsters but still manages to lose. Tsukune’s name gets cleared in the newspaper and Gin is hated by the females of the school.
In episode 7 we get introduced to the fourth heroine of the series and my favorite one Mizore the cute yet crazy stalker snowwoman voiced by Rie Kugimiya (Iori from The Idolm@ster. Imagine, Rie doing a yandere character instead of a tsundere character). In the episode she develops in obsession with Tsukune because to her they’re both alike (oh sure except you know he’s a weak human while you’re a snowwoman and he has a dick and balls while you have a vagina and boobs. Other than that you two are alike). She tries to make him hers but Tsukune rejects her feelings saying they’re nothing alike which upsets her. Later on a teacher frames her for attacking him and everyone believes that she’s the culprit. But when Gin shows pictures of the teacher trying to force his way on her the misunderstanding is cleared. Tsukune tries to apologize for not believing in her but it’s too late (of course it is it’s always too late when it comes to yandere girls). She uses her ice clones to attack the group but her powers start to go berserk and she’s about to fall off a cliff but Tsukune catches her and tells her that while it’s true that he was alone at first he has friends now who care for them (more like a harem of girls who want to get inside your pants) and that he wants to add her into the harem (I mean friends with benefits, I mean friend list. No, I mean harem let’s not hide it he wants to add her to the harem). As the ice clones close in on him Moka does a baseball slide (confusing) to get close to Tsukune and have him remove the Rosario and allow Moka’s demonic energy to destroy the clones and rescue Tsukune and Mizore (oh come on you guys could have done that yourselves, now you’re just being lazy and weak). The next day Mizore cuts her hair short (she looks even cuter now) and joins the newspaper club (yay).
In episode 8 final exams are coming up and in order for Tsukune to enjoy his summer vacation with Moka he has to pass the devil’s curse on the world Math (https://youtu.be/SNQj_MnLsdw). He tries to get Moka to teach him in her room (I’m sure he wants her to teach him more than just math) but the hot and sexy math teacher says she’ll teach him and show him how great studying is (https://youtu.be/4F4qzPbcFiA). He goes to the remedial class (from Hell) where the teacher reveals herself to be a lamia and uses her powers to drain Tsukune of his emotions so that the only thing he’ll focus on is math (okay do school rules mean nothing in this show? This is like the 13th person who has revealed their true form and I have yet to see any repercussions for their actions). She keeps doing this for days turning Tsukune into a math zombie (see I told you. Math is e~vil~) until Moka senses Tsukune is in danger (Moka: my Tsukune senses are tingling) and goes to the remedial lesson to see the horrors going on and tries to save Tsukune from his zombie state. The teacher attacks Moka and after Tsukune sees the hand-written notes that Moka made for him he snaps out of it and removes her Rosario and she kicks the teacher’s sadistic math-loving ass. On the day of the finals Tsukune passes his test and is free to enjoy his summer with Moka.
Episodes 9-13
Episodes 9-10 are two part episodes that take place in the human world. Its summer vacation and the group goes on a newspaper club retreat near the ocean (only because there homeroom teacher wants to eat human world fish). At the ocean they come across a hillside filled with sunflowers as far as the eyes can see but the hill is said to be dangerous because a witch lives there and has been making people disappear whenever they enter the hillside (the hills have eyes). While in the human world Yukari feels that nobody respects or depends on her because she’s a child (have you looked at a mirror) and she runs away at night to the sunflower hillside where she meets our fifth and final heroine in the season Ruby another witch who lives on the hillside with her master (what is this Witches of the Sunflowers) and wants to protect the sunflowers from humans who want to tear down the sunflowers and use the land for development by killing them (an environmentalist witch? Never in all my years of watching anime did I think I would see an environment loving witch). She’s voiced by Saeko Chiba (Nina Einstein from Code Geass). She tries to recruit Yukari to join her but she says no and as she’s about to leave Tsukune comes in looking for her and Ruby attacks him with plant monsters (no~ nobody wants to see man tentacle rape). She also attacks Yukari (oh god now it’s even worse) but Yuakri uses her own magic to destroy the plant monsters and save herself and Tsukune without help from anyone else (wow an episode where Moka didn’t transform, I guess she really was out of asses to kick this time). As they’re leaving Ruby decides to be a dick and attack Tsukune in the back seriously injuring him (big mistake). This causes everyone to get mad and go on a rampage on her to end the episode.
We open the next episode with Ruby waking up in their tent (WHAT! How’d we get here!? You mean to tell me you skipped the entire action scene? Oh this is bullshit). We see that Tsukune is okay and the group tries to get Ruby to come back to Youkai Academy with them and give up on trying to kill humans. At first it seems like she’ll consider the idea but once she goes back to her master her mind completely changes and she goes on a complete rampage on the group (bipolar much). So we get a big climatic fight scene between the group and Ruby in which the group (even with Moka in her vampire form) actually has a hard time fighting her because she keeps summoning plant monsters (guys this isn’t hard. Go to a shop, buy two or three flamethrowers and burn the damn hill to the ground until it looks like a desolate waste land). During the fight Tsukune goes into the mansion to get Ruby’s master to stop her but he finds out that the master has long since been dead and that Ruby went into a state of denial and created this false master in her mind (the 1st stage of depression). She goes berserk after hearing this news and uses a forbidden spell which turns her into a plant monster herself (okay this character had to be based off of Poison Ivy from Batman. The crazy environmentalist, the desire to kill humans for the sake of plants, and she uses plant based magic she’s clearly the witch version of Poison Ivy). Yukari tells Moka to remove Ruby’s wand saying that witches can’t use magic without one. Moka takes out the wand and the plant monster destroys itself along with Ruby. At the end the group thinks Ruby is dead but Gin shows up after finishing his remedial lessons with an unconscious Ruby (what did you do to her Gin).
In episode 11 the second semester gets started and the group is eager to sell their newspapers about their experience in the human world. But a new club calling themselves the Super newspaper club comes on to the scene and steals away readers from the newspaper club. The group wants to fight but Gin tells them to stand down because the Super newspaper club is being backed up the Public Safety Commission (PSC) the school’s police force who maintain order in the school but are actually a group of thugs who forces their will on others (no different from any other moral committees). Gin doesn’t want to get involved with them and tells the group to burn the newspapers. Why, well it’s jumping ahead a little but back when Gin was a 1st year, he, along with other students tried to use the newspaper club to speak out against the PSC and expose their crimes to the students. But the PSC came in and beat them down causing all of the members except Gin to leave the club out of fear. Gin doesn’t want to go down this road again and get his underclassmen involved in a fight they can’t win. Kurumu refuses to burn them since it’s the paper she worked so hard on with Tsukune and everyone and doesn’t want their efforts to go unrewarded. As Tsukune and Kurumu decide to distribute the papers in secret one of the members of the PSC comes in along with her posse and burns the papers. The leader reveals herself to be a spiderwoman who can use her venom to turn anyone into her obedient slave. As she’s about to bite Kurumu, Moka comes and gets her Rosario removed and combining her skills with Kurumu they defeat the spiderwoman and her posse (the itchy-wichy spider tried to bite the succubus, down came the vampire who kicked her freaking ass, then she wrapped her in a web and kicked her down the road and the itchy-wichy spider was never seen again). After defeating the PSC members they vow to expose the truth of the PSC to the students without Gin’s help.
Episode 12 just serves as a setup for the final episode. The PSC arrest Tsukune on the grounds of being a human who are forbidden from coming to the school (odd, considering the whole point of this school is to help monsters COEXIST WITH HUMANS IN THE REAL WORLD! So you would think having a human at the school with them would actually help them socialize better with humans and learn more about the human world) and bring Moka, Kurumu, and Mizore in for questioning. Under threat of Moka being dumped into a pool of water Tsukune confesses that he is a human and we see that Moka was never in any real danger, it was all a set up to get him to confess (now let me tell you something. You know you done fucked up right? You know that right). The confession gets heard by the others and everyone (except Moka) go through the liar gets revealed phase and walks out on him. They throw Moka in jail, let Kurumu and Mizore go, and announce to the school that they’ll be holding a public lynching of Tsukune for being a human in front of the school (I doubt it’ll be as funny as Roscoe Patterson’s lynching. God I miss The Boondocks). And what are the teachers and principle doing about this (https://youtu.be/8E1Wl5Flkfw), my God people one of your students is about to be executed on school ground and a human student no less, the purpose of the school is to encourage coexistence with humans so go out and the beat the ideas of coexistence into their KKK wannabe asses.
In the final episode Ruby comes back (where the hell have you been these last episodes) and gets everyone together. They rescue Moka and make their way to the lynching to save Tsukune. Kurumu and Ruby take him to the school roof but Kuyou the leader of the PSC follows them and fires a fire spear at Tsukune burning his whole body and killing him but not before Tsukune removes the Rosario on Moka so that she can fight (he has no idea the ass kicking he has just earned himself). She kicks Kuyou out of anger and rushes over to Tsukune where she says there’s still life in him and she decides to inject Tsukune with her own blood to bring him back but it doesn’t seem to be working. Kuyou comes back revealing himself to be a fox demon (he only has 4 tails so he’s not a true kyuubi) and attacks the group taking them out one by one (even Gin gets taken out) leaving only Moka to fight him. Her kicks do no damage to him and he easily blows her away with his punches. He unleashes another flame attack on her but misses because Tsukune wakes up and saves her (c-c-c-combo breaker). With Tsukune revived this somehow gives her strength to fight stronger and she defeats Kuyou with one powerful kick that sends him through the school defeating him. With Kuyou defeated they make everyone believe that Tsukune defeated him clearing his name and we end on a fun note with all the girls kissing him at once.
Final Thoughts
Can you see why this anime is Twilight done correctly? On top of having well written characters, story, and world setting this anime displays the right emotion and plays out Tsukune and Moka’s relationship well. Tsukune is constantly wondering if it’s right for him to be friends with Moka and to even fall in love with her even though they come from two different worlds and their worlds have a bad history with each other. He’s also deals with the question of wondering if Moka really does like him or if she’s just interested in his blood (although it’s quite obvious she likes him and sees this in the first few episodes he still wonders about this). Moka is a well done vampire. She acts like a real girl, she’s sweet and kind, charming, and beautiful but she’s also a powerful vampire and she knows it and while her vampire side may not show it the vampire Moka does actually have feelings for Tsukune she’s just too proud to admit. The other heroines are kinda of cliché characters except for Mizore who actually does have a well-developed character. Mizore is a loner, someone looking in from the outside but once you get to know her she’s actually quite sweet, cute, and funny. I like how she’s always appearing out of nowhere and stalking people. As I said before the other heroines are good but their kinda cliché characters. Kurumu is your classic big-breasted girl who constantly tries to get the main character to feel her up. Yukari is the loli girl who’s quite smart for her age, has a bit of a rivalry with Kurumu, and wants people to see her as an adult instead of a child. Ruby. . .well we really don’t get that much information about her or see her interact that much with the other characters so it’s kinda hard to get a good fix on her.
The animation and music are alright, there’s nothing really outstanding about it but I do admit it looks good. I like the various types of monsters they present throughout the series and the short exposition on what they are really does make me want to go out and study these bizarre creatures. The world that the school is in is quite dark and scary. The place really does look like and feel like a new world. The ocean is red, we’re told the weather is always fall weather, and you constantly get that eerie feeling that you feel while watching a horror movie just by looking at this world. It’s a little ecchi but not so much where it’ll distract you from the anime. The only real ecchi moments are the occasional panty shot and the jiggling breast but other than that nothing really out there which is ironic because after watching the anime I actually picked up the manga and found it to be a little more ecchi than the anime I guess the animators decided to hold back in the show.
The downside to this anime however are the fight scenes. Yeah they look cool and all but in actuality there’s not that much going on in them. In each fight Moka just does one kick on them and they go down. Each fight is basically over within 2 minutes and there’s not much happening in them. I know Moka is a vampire and considered the strongest of the monsters but still that doesn’t mean she can’t struggle against them in a fight. Show a little back and forth action, make the fight exciting, show more of her vampire powers, and don’t just make them a one hit K.O battle each time it becomes annoying and predictable. Another problem I have with this series are the school rules, nobody follows them at all. Seriously, the students are told to stay in human form but in each episode a student reveals their true monster form and there’s no repercussions for their actions whatsoever. Also, what were the teachers doing just letting one of their students a human student mind you just get killed right in front of them? The point of the school was to help students coexist with humans yet they were just gonna sit there and watch him die. Hell, one of the teachers said if the students didn’t kill him he would so are you telling me that even the employees of the school don’t believe in the philosophy of the school? If that’s so than how are the students supposed to believe in that philosophy? The rules of school really serve no purpose and or aren’t carried out all that well. Sure Tsukune came to the school by accident and humans aren’t allowed in the school, but again wouldn’t they see this as a great chance to help students better understand humans and get along with them better if anything the teachers and principal should be rejoicing that they actually got a human student to go to their school and is willing to stay despite the dangers of knowing that he could be killed.
Final Score
Rosario+ Vampire earns a blood-sucking 6/10. Despite my complaints it is a very well-written and fun anime to watch. It’s got the right mixture of drama, comedy, and morals to go along with it and if they worked more on the fighting scenes (which are better in the manga) this series will definitely take off big time. While the characters might be a little cliché they’re still good and fun characters to be around and I’m glad they’re all in the harem. If you like a good harem anime that doesn’t go too overboard on the ecchiness and want to see Twilight done correctly I recommend watching this anime. It’s guaranteed to intrigue you and your girlfriend or boyfriend much more than Twilight ever could. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj as Ani-ween continues MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHHHHHH~ *falls back in chair*. Not the best way to end on my highest note.
