Hello everyone. Nitsuj here and welcome to the side blog the blogs between the blogs. Well if my calendar is to be believed as well as the recently rising temperatures, then that means spring is around the corner and you know what that means, First Impressions. It’s time once again to take a look at the anime set to come out next season and give our first impressions on them. Which ones are we looking forward to watching, which ones will we skip or save for later, and which ones are we unsure about? The winter season has been spectacular. With a lot of animes getting delayed due to the pandemic, the anime industry decided to start the year off strong and give us a slew of awesome anime to watch. Attack on Titan has been good along with Beastars, Re:Zero, Dr. Stone, Reincarnated as Slime, Redo of Healer and of course, Cells at Work. Along with these animes we’ve also got Last Dungeon Boonies which is funny, the Quintuplets, So I’m a spider and Mushoku Tensei has revitalized the isekai genre, and surprisingly SK8 the Infinity. Yeah, I saw a clip of it on Youtube and decided to check out the anime. It was surprisingly good. Well enough winter talk, this is spring anime 2021 First Impressions.
Boku no Hero Academia 5
So we start the season off right with the return of My Hero Academia for it’s fifth season. Each season has been great and every season keeps getting better. Watching it.
Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san
Here’s an anime that had a little controversy. It focuses on a girl who likes to bully and tease her upperclassman. Is she doing this because she likes seeing him in agony or is she secretly in love with him and this is the only way she knows how to show affection. Man, when this anime was announced idiot puritans were calling for this to be cancelled before it even aired. Why!? Because a girl can’t be mean or have a personality other then being a pure maiden? I’ll watch it and see where it goes.
Fumetsu no Anata e
This is an anime I remember talking about awhile back but got delayed. It focuses on a boy in the artic who befriends a wolf and they travel across the region. As they travel, we learn that the boy has a history and the wolf is more than meets the eye. Still on the fence about this anime, but I’ll check out the first episode and see where it goes.
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord S2
Here’s an anime I’m excited to see. While not one of the best isekais out there, it was passable, you’ll get some level of enjoyment out of watching it. Now I have an excuse to review the first season. Watching it.
Fruits Basket: The Final
To all my Fruits Basket fans out there the final season will be coming out this spring. Not interested.
Zombie Land Saga: Revenge
Here’s an anime I wasn’t expecting to get a second season. The surprise idol zombie hit returns. Watching it.
Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun S2
The second season comes out this spring. I had a lot fun watching the first season and it got me interested in picking up the manga. With the way the first season ended I’m excited to see what happens next in this comedy. Watching it.
Tensura Nikki: Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken
A spin-off from Reincarnated as Slime that focuses on the daily life of Rimuru and the others. I’ll check it out. This is most likely a ploy to hold everyone over until the 2nd course of the second season which begins in the summer.
Shaman King (2021)
Here’s another anime I’m excited for. One of my favorite animes to watch growing up. I remember watching it all the time Saturday morning. Looks like it’s getting that FMA: Brotherhood treatment and have an anime that will follow the manga more closely this time around. Watching it.
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita
An isekai story that focuses on a woman who gets reincarnated as an immortal who spends the next 300 years killing slimes and eventually maxes out her level to become the strongest person in the world. When news of this spread, the witch finds her peaceful gone and now being asked to go on adventures. Watching it.
Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou
This was another anime I talked about in the past that got delayed. It focuses on a man who got rejected by his crush. After drinking his sorrows away he comes across a high school who ran away from home an offers to have sex with the guy in exchange for letting her stay at his apartment. Again, I’m going to check this out and see where it goes.
NOMAD: Megalo Box 2
The second season of Megalo Box set 7 years after the events of season 1. Didn’t really get into this series. I’ve heard it’s good, but boxing was never really my thing. Sorry guys, but I’m skipping this one.
Tokyo Revengers
Focuses on an adult freelancer named Takemichi who finds himself in the pits of absolute despair. Things only get worst when he finds out the only girl he ever liked got killed by a gang. Just when he thinks life couldn’t get any worse for him, someone pushes him onto the train tracks where he’s about to get hit by a train only to somehow return to the past when he was 12 years old. Takemichi vows to redo his life and save the girl he loves. I might watch it.
Yuukoku no Moriarty Part 2
The second course of this anime. I haven’t watched the first course it so I’ll be skipping this anime.
Edens Zero
From the man that gave us Fairy Tail comes his newest project about space traveling. I will check it out because I’m a sucker for Mashima’s work. It may not be the best or well planned, but the guy knows how to be creative.
SSSS.DYNAZENON
A sequel to SSSS.Gridman which will focus on a new cast. Watching it.
86: Eighty Six
Countries who are at war with each other have created autonomous drones to do the fighting for them. We focus on a group of soldiers composed of men and women who have been stripped of their humanity and pilot the unmanned weapons into battle. This sounds interesting. I will check this out.
Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Come
A boy likes a girl who is already dating someone causing his life to take a turn for the worse. His childhood friend sees him in despair and decides to help him get back at the girl who crushed his feelings. Not interested.
The World Ends With You: The Animation
An anime based off the game. Haven’t played the game but I’ve heard good things about it. I’m checking this anime out.
Sentouin, Hakenshimasu!
A foot soldier for an evil organization is dispatched to an alien world for reconnaissance with an android to plan for an invasion. Not sure where this story is heading, but I think I will check it out.
MARS RED
Taking place in 1923, the Japanese army works with a vampire to hunt down other vampires to stop their society from crumbling. I might watch this.
Koi to Yobu ni wa Kimochi Warui
A romcom about a straight-forward businessman who falls in love with a high school otaku. Not interested.
Shakunetsu Kabaddi
An anime about kabaddi, a contact team sport played in the Indian subcontinent. Not interested.
Shadows House
A spooky story that focuses on the daily lives of the house inhabitants and gradually revealing their mysteries. I might check it out.
Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song
In a theme park managed entirely by AIs an AI from the future arrives to team up with the theme park’s star attraction Vivy to stop the war between humans and AIs. Skipping.
Bishounen Tanteidan
A detective club full of pretty boys. Skipping.
Mashiro no Oto
High school boy likes to play the shamisen. Skipping.
Kyuukyoku Shinka Shita Full Dive RPG ga Genjitsu yori mo Kusogee Dattara
A dull high school boy named Hiro gets tricked into joining a full dive role-playing game. He quickly discovers that the game is a ghost town because of complaints saying that the game is too real for its own good. However, Hiro vows to beat the game no matter what. Watching it.
Jouran: THE PRINCESS OF SNOW AND BLOOD
A woman whose family was murdered is out for revenge and joins a secret government unit who are hunting down the man who killed her family. I might watch this.
Sayonara Watashi no Cramer
An anime about soccer. Not watching.
Bakuten!!
An anime about rhythmic gymnastics. Skipping.
Dragon, Ie wo Kau
A dragon trying to find their place in the world. Not interested.
Super Cub
Cute girls on motorcycles. Skipping.
Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu
A girl gets isekai’d into another world where she opens up a shop making potions and cosmetics with her newfound magic. I might watch this.
Yakunara Mug Cup Mo
Cute girls, food and historical pottery. Not watching.
Odd Taxi
An odd anime about a taxi driver, his odd passengers, and an odd mystery surrounding a girl who’s gone missing. Also the characters are anthropomorphic animals. Not interested.
Cestvs: The Roman Fighter
An orphan boy gets thrown into pugilists’ school where he must defy fate and fight for his freedom. I might watch this.
BLUE REFLECTION RAY
A very confusing magical girl anime. Skipping it.
Seven Knights Revolution: Eiyuu no Keishousha
A bland story about knights protecting the world. Skipping it.
Fairy Ranmaru: Anata no Kokoro Otasuke Shimasu
It’s like what would happen if you gave Stands to café workers. Not interested.
Battle Athletess Daiundoukai: ReSTART!
A sequel to Battle Athletess Daiundoukai. Skipping it.
Cardfight!! Vanguard: overdress
Another Vanguard anime. Skipping it.
Itazura Guma no Gloomy
A disturbing story about a boy who adopts an abandoned bear who becomes more wild and aggressive the bigger it gets. Not interested.
Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z
No information about this anime. Skipping it.
Motto! Majime ni Fumajime Kaiketsu Zorori 2nd Season
Sequel to Motto! Majime ni Fumajime Kaiketsu Zorori. Not watching.
Youkai Watch ♪
A sequel to Youkai Watch. Not watching.
Continuing into the spring we have Nanatsu no Taizai, So I’m a Spider and Back Arrow.
Movies and OVAs
On the movie front we have a Fate/Grand Order movie that follows the Sixth Singularity. Detective Conan and Girls and Panzer also makes a return. There’s going to be a Godzilla OVA along with DanMachi and Kaguya-sama.
Final Thoughts
So there’s the spring line up. Aside from My Hero Academia, not a lot of big hits coming out this season, but we are getting the return of a few classics such as Shaman King, Iruma-kun, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord, and Zombie Land Saga. We have a few anime that look promising, but nothing that really pops for me personally, but holding onto hope that when the animes do premiere they’ll surprise me. This is going to be a tough follow up to the winter season, but here’s hoping the best for the spring.
