Hello. Nitsuj here and welcome to the side blog the blogs between the blogs. Memorial Day has come and gone and that usually means summer has officially started. Throw away the books, put on the sunglasses, and work on that tan. With summer here that means new anime is just around the corner which means it’s time for First Impressions, where they a look at the new anime and give our initial thoughts on them. I’ve done no research on these animes. I’m just going to read the synopsis and decide if this is an anime I would watch or not. Before looking at the summer anime let’s talk about the spring anime. Overall it was good. Hell’s Paradise, Dr. Stone, Oshi no Ko, The Ancient Magnus Bride, Golden Kamuy and Demon Slayer were the highlights for me. However, there were a lot of funny animes that got a good laugh out as well such as the Konosuba spin-off focusing on Megumin, Mashle, The Legendary Hero is Dead, and KamiKatsu. Probably the most disappointing anime for me was Marginal Service. I watched like six episodes and dropped it because of the bad writing and concept. It’s amazing how they managed to screw up this MIB/Power Rangers combination. I didn’t get into Heavenly Delusion or Dead Mount Death Play. From what I’ve heard I’m really not missing that much. Okay, that’s enough about spring anime. Soak in those summer vibes. This is the Summer Anime 2023 First Impressions.
Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season
So we start the season off with MAPPA giving us the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Definitely watching it. MAPPA has just been on a roll this year. They started with Vinland Saga then gave us Hell’s Paradise and supposedly the second movie of Attack on Titan’s final season is coming out this fall. They can’t lose this year.
Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu
Speaking of returns we also got the second season of Mushoku Tensei. I’m currently reviewing the first so check out the first part after this and look forward to the second part coming out tomorrow. Watching it.
BLEACH: Sennen Kessen-hen – Ketsubetsu-tan
The returns keep coming as Bleach is set to return as well. Not watching.
Horimiya: The Missing Pieces
A season that adapts the side stories that were left out in the original anime. Not interested.
Masamune-kun no Revenge R
The second season of a boy’s revenge on a girl who picked on him in elementary school. I’ll check it out.
Kanojo, Okarishimasu 3rd Season
One of the cringiest animes you’ll ever see is back. Watching it for the laughs.
Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru Made ni Shitai 100 no Koto
When a zombie apocalypse breaks out, our main character Akira abandons his abysmal job and sets out to complete all 100 items on his bucket list before he possibly dies. This sounds like fun. Watching it.
Bungou Stray Dogs 5th Season
The fifth season. The fourth season left off on a cliffhanger so I’m excited to see what happens next. Watching it. Mira and Shizuku are also excited.
Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon
A girl gets married off to a heartless and cold soldier. Can she melt his heart? I might watch it to find out.
The Devil is a Part-Timer S3
The third season is here and we didn’t have to wait eight or more years. Watching it.
Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta
Boy has a crush on his desk neighbor. Not interested.
Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid 2nd Season
Second season of an anime I didn’t get into. Not watching.
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan (2023)
The hit series from the 90s is back and will be adapted from beginning to end. Watching it.
Liar Liar
A school where everything is decided by games. I’ll check it out and see where it goes.
Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai Suru
In a magic academy a guy has to form a bond with a girl who may not like him. I might watch it.
Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon
Here’s one of the most anticipated animes to come out this summer. A man gets reborn as a vending machine in another world. I have to check this out to see where this goes.
Eiyuu Kyoushitsu
An academy for heroes. Watching it.
Shiro Seijo to Kuro Bokushi
A fun a little romcom about a saint in love with a priest. I might check it out.
Helck
After the demon king is defeated, the hero participates in the tournament to crown the new king and he’s totally onboard with destroying humans. Is this a trick or his true feelings? I might watch it.
Uchi no Kaisha no Chiisai Senpai no Hanashi
Office place romance. Not interested.
Genjitsu no Yohane: SUNSHINE in the MIRROR
Another spin-off of Love Live that reimagines the characters in a fantasy world. Not watching.
Dark Gathering
A tutor and his student go around capturing spirits. Sounds interesting. I’ll give it a chance.
Am I Actually the Strongest?
An isekai story with a generic and uninteresting set up. Not watching.
The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: from Villainess to Savior
A new otome isekai where our female lead gets reborn as the antagonist of her game and decides to start being good. I’ll have the AI girls watch this.
Ryza no Atelier: Tokoyami no Joou to Himitsu no Kakurega
An anime based off the Atelier game. Skipping it. I really didn’t get into these games.
Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha
Two people who think their love is unrequited by the other. Not interested.
My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1
An isekai story of a man with a weak stats and an OP skill. Might watch it.
Spy Classroom S2
Second season. Watching it.
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Part 2
The second part of the first season. Not interested.
Temple
Oh yes, I’ve read this manga. This is from the same guy who made Grand Blue so you know it’s going to be funny. Our main character hoping to live a more stoic life free of worldly desires becomes a monk. He enters a temple and sees it’s filled with gorgeous girls. Watching it.
Undead Girl Murder Farce
Here’s an interesting story. A girl travels around Europe taking up supernatural cases in the hopes of finding her missing body. Watching it.
Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu
A hard working lady takes in a cat who becomes humanoid and does all the housekeeping and cooking. Don’t you wish all cats were like this? Not interested.
Okashi na Tensei
Reincarnation and making sweets in another world. I might watch this.
The Great Cleric
A man gets reincarnated as a cleric in another world. Give it the 3-episode rule.
AI no Idenshi
Doctors and AI. Not sure what to make of this anime.
AYAKA
The story follows Yukito Yanagi, an orphan who one day encounters an eccentric disciple of his father’s. The strange man takes him to his birthplace on Ayakajima, made up of seven islands where mysterious beings called “Mitama” and dragons are rumored to reside. There, Yukito meets his father’s two other disciples, who protect the harmony of Ayakajima which soon threatens to collapse. I might watch it.
Mononogatari 2nd Season
Second season. Not watching.
SYNDUALITY Noir
Humans and AIs learning to live together in a destroyed world. Not interested.
Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero
The demon lord gets humiliated by the hero in battle. Ten years later, the demon lord returns for a rematch only to see the hero has become a shut-in and couch potato. Can the demon lord whip the hero into shape or will he join the hero and his lazy lifestyle? I might watch it.
BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!
A new anime in the BanG Dream franchise. Not watching.
Hyakushou Kizoku
From the author of FMA comes her life story about working on a farm in Hokkaido before finally deciding to become a manga artist. Not interested.
Cardfight!! Vanguard: will+Dress Season 3
Third season. Not watching.
Shadowverse Flame: Seven Shadows-hen
Sequel that I am not interested in watching.
Along with these animes Ao no Orchestra, Niehime to Kemono no Ou, and MIX: MEISEI STORY 2ND SEASON – Nidome no Natsu, Sora no Mukou e will continue into the summer.
Final Thoughts
And that’s the summer anime. This is definitely the summer of sequels. I’m really excited for the return of Jujustu Kaisen and Mushoku Tensei. Those are the two big animes I’m looking forward to watching this summer. A good list overall and hopefully we’ll see a few animes that turn out better than we expected.
