Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Well Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day (S.A.D) is just around the corner a day where people acknowledge that they are single and couples buy each other chocolate or the man takes the leap faith in his relationship and proposes to the girl he loves. But I’m not here to talk about human romance I’m here to talk about anime romance. Throughout the years, anime has given us couples that we love and have come to see as realistic couples. The reason why we love these couples is because we dream of one day having and building a relationship like there’s and overcoming all the odds just to be with each other. But I have to ask what couples standout the most? What anime couples pull at our heart strings the most and makes us say aww~? Well today I’m here to find out and I’m only counting official anime couples so couples that aren’t official yet like Naruto and Hinata, Natsu and Lucy, and Ash and Misty (yes, I support this couple) don’t count and won’t be appearing on the list. Don’t take it personal I like these couples as much as the next guy but they gotta be official and until the author or creator makes it official these couples are just fan favorites that people love to ship. So cuddle up with your sweetheart or whatever is close to you as I count down my top 11 anime couples. Why top 11? Because just like some else on this site I too like to go one step beyond.
#11. Yuuji and Shouko from Baka and Test
//images5.fanpop.com/image/polls/1070000/1070514_1341760465831_full.jpg
With the love. . . I don’t know octagon going on between Aki, Minami, Himeji, and other characters it’s almost understandable to forget about the love relationship going on between Yuuji and Shouko. It’s your typical childhood crush which I’m not very fond of but with this couple it actually works. Shouko is madly in love with Yuuji to the point where she’s yandere for him not in a scary way but in a funny way and will go as far as torturing and hurting Yuuji just for thinking or looking at another girl and even making contracts with him just to force his hand in marriage in case he violates them. Shouko is a girl born with natural beauty, brains, and wealth which made her kind of an outcast when she was little. Everybody didn’t know how to approach her except for Yuuji who at the time treated everyone the same, an annoyance. But despite this Shouko still liked him because he actually treated her as something and when Yuuji rescues her from some bullies I think that just cemented that Shouko was going to marry Yuuji no matter what. As for Yuuji I think deep down he really does care and like Shouko a lot as we’ve seen in the series he does look out for her and even protects her when someone hurts her it’s just that because of the mistakes he’s made in the past he thinks he’s unworthy of being with her and thinks she should find someone else. Whether Yuuji is the right man for Shouko or not remains to be seen but the one thing I can say for certain is that there’s never a dull moment in their relationship and it’s because of this that I’ll always support their romance. And for those of you saying this couple isn’t official yet let me offer you words of wisdom. When a woman says she’s in a relationship with someone like Shouko does in the series you better not deny it.
#10. Vegeta and Bulma from Dragonball Z
//fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2…ional_poster_by_midnightshadows24-d57pwnm.jpg
//fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/017/4/3/vegeta_y_bulma_by_salvamakoto-d5rszrx.jpg
Here’s a couple I never thought I would see in the series. When you look at the two Vegeta and Bulma are like the two opposites of each other. Vegeta was a loner, full of pride in himself and his strength, never listening to anybody, and never accepting being second to anyone. Bulma was bossy, independent, smart, beautiful, and a little bit of a smartass. But oddly enough these two are perfect for each other. Bulma is probably the only person who can stare Vegeta in the eye and tell him all his faults and problems and not worry about him hurting her and Vegeta is the only one who can tolerate Bulma’s bossy attitude and fight back against her without harming her. While Vegeta may not show his true feelings for Bulma deep down he cares for her he’s just unsure how to show it. They’re a couple who are the complete opposites of others but are so in tune with each other that they’re perfect for each other. The only problem I really have with this couple and the reason it’s not a little higher on the list is because it just spontaneously happened, like it happened so fast that I feel as if an episode got cut out or something. If the series had taken it’s time to develop and build up the relationship a little more I would have probably put this couple higher on the list but for now I say this couple is good and a good example of two people who may not seem right for each other actually being right for each other.
#9. Miroku and Sango from Inuyasha
//images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/32600000/Sango-and-Miroku-inuyasha-32644879-1280-800.jpg
//fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/344/2/4/miroku_and_sango_by_firetomboy-d4iqby9.jpg
I gotta be honest, I never really got into Inuyasha like a lot of people did. I watched it but it just never really pulled me in. I didn’t get into the story and I really wasn’t all that interested in the on again and off again relationship with Inuyasha and Kagome. Hell the whole plot of the series practically takes a backseat to their romance. The one thing I can say I enjoyed about Inuyasha the most was the relationship between Miroku and Sango. Both of these two have had a tragic life given to them as the result of one demon but they both continue to live and hang on to the hope that they’ll pull through their ordeal. Plus it was always nice to see their relationship development in the series. Sango always confined in Miroku the most out of all the characters in the series. Whenever she was feeling down or needed someone to talk to Miroku was always there for her. Miroku also confined in Sango the most out of all the characters and is the one he truly does love even though he was slow to realize it. The guy was just a straight up pervert, he would constantly go around asking all sorts of women to have his children just to keep his bloodline alive in case he fails in his mission but of all the women Sango was the only person who he actually groped and kept pursuing throughout the series showing that to him Sango was special than all the other women out there and when he finally confesses his feelings to Sango and ask her hand in marriage it’s actually a beautiful and heartwarming scene to see that Miroku wants to settle down and be with the person he loves the most even though he still wants to womanize. While Inuyasha may not have been an anime I really enjoyed I take comfort in knowing the couple of Miroku and Sango was a joy to watch with both funny and heartwarming moments.
#8. Zen and Shirayuki from Akagami no Shirayukihime
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/d1/59/fc/d159fccaa2af30df9cf9d6b95e4ed67a.png
Now here’s a couple that just warms my heart every time I see them. What makes the relationship between these two so great is that they really don’t care each other’s status and see each other for who they really are. Zen sees Shirayuki as this beautiful independent girl that has the power to make everyone around her feel great. Shirayuki sees Zen as a young man who cares for his country, the people in it, and works harder than anyone to make them happy. Not only that but they serve as each other’s emotional rocks whenever things get tough for them. No matter how you look at it, these two just put a smile on your face every time you see them.
#7. Ryuuji and Taiga from Toradora!
//static.tumblr.com/jcmfgw2/m8rm3y6eo/t1.png
//th01.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2013/183/9/5/ryuuji_x_taiga_by_netamenta-d6bq7xx.png
This is probably the best tsundere couple out there. Taiga is your typical spoiled rich girl who looks down on others and treats them poorly along with abusive and hurtful words. Ryuuji is the son of a single parent who spends most of his time alone taking care of the cooking, cleaning the house, and has a good heart. When the two meet we see that Taiga treats Ryuuji poorly but as the series goes on and the two start to open up to each other and develop a love for each other you wouldn’t expect. I think what makes this couple better than Saito and Louise is that we see development on both of the characters side instead of just one character. When you look at Zero no Tsukaima Saito really doesn’t change all that much. He’s a good guy who’s a little perverted but cares and loves Louise with all his heart so there’s not much change on his part. Louise on the other hand went through a number of changes in the series. In Toradora, Ryuuji and Taiga both go through a change. We see how the two have multi-layered personalities and sides to themselves that nobody knew about. However, these two would confide in each other, look each other in the eyes, and change each other for the better throughout the series. Funny, complex, enduring, and cute this is a couple I love watching.
#6. Edward and Winry from Full Metal Alchemist
//31.media.tumblr.com/8540623c769a6b3097338f71fb92dbd8/tumblr_mtqkw0Ctsc1rs9972o1_1280.jpg
//images5.fanpop.com/image/pho…-3-full-metal-alchemist-25669333-1024-768.jpg
You all knew this couple was coming. Can you really blame me, Ed and Winry are such a great couple. Winry is Ed’s mechanic and is the one who gave Ed his arm and leg. She’s a supportive character for Ed who always there to comfort him whenever he gets too stressed out from all that’s happening in his life. Winry is also a good person for Ed, she’s the only person who completely goes against Ed’s way of alchemy thinking verbally and is one of the few who can put Ed in his place when he needs it. I also like how she came to the conclusion that she liked Ed. We see at the beginning Winry sees Ed as just a child but as time progresses and Ed starts to become more mature and manlier Winry starts to notice it and see that Ed is a strong, mature man and begins to fall for him. Ed on other hand has always had feelings for Winry he just wasn’t sure how to tell her. One of the scenes I love in FMA: Brotherhood is when Ed calls up Winry to makes sure she’s safe when he finds out Bradly is a homunculus and threatens to kill everyone Ed holds dear to him. Out of all the people he cares about its Winry who comes to his mind first and the first person he calls to check on. That is cute and thoughtful on his part. Another scene I like is when Ed stops Winry from trying to kill Scar because he doesn’t want her hands to be stained with blood like his. Ed knows the pain of taking someone else’s life and doesn’t want that pain to be experience by someone as upbeat and cheerful as Winry as if the say he’ll accept her burden. This couple makes the list just for the journey they take into realizing their feelings for each other and finally seeing it blossom to wrap up the series on a high note. Equivalent exchange may mean something to Ed but to Winry it’s just an equation that can be squashed.
#5. Livi and Nike from Soredemo Sekai Wa Utsukushii
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/cd/32/51/cd32510cd38a5ef8e255a8bd47a5d08d.jpg
One’s an outgoing princess who always wants to help people while the other is a mature child who practically rules the world. Their relationship as you would expect starts off rocky but as time goes on Nike begins to see Livi for who he really is, a guy who feels alone in the world and needs someone to trust and Livi begins to see Nike as this irreplaceable light he can’t live without. Their relationship and how it develop and progresses is amazing and feels so real that you forget they’re anime characters and see them as real people and I love it.
#4. Issei and Rias from Highschool DxD
//3.bp.blogspot.com/-IwA0mqc_R…ssei+&+Rias+Gremory+Render+2+[MG+Renders].png
//1003graduate.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/high-school-dxd-4.jpg
This next one might be a spoiler for you guys but in the light novels Issei and Rias do become a couple and start dating each other and boy am I happy. Issei is a straight up pervert but what separates him from other perverts is that he doesn’t just lust after girls he does in fact care deeply for every girl he peeps on and this guy somehow manages to get his hands on the forbidden fruit that is Rias. In the series Rias is a girl born of high class who wonders if anybody will ever see her for who she really is making her feel lonely. But Issei comes along and tells her that he’ll love her no matter what and that he’ll look at her as Rias. From there their relationship continues to blossom and grows stronger. Rias loves Issei because of how much he’s willing to go through for her and the fact that when he’s around she’s able to be who she really is without worrying about what he thinks about her because she knows that Issei will always love her no matter what. Issei also loves Rias not because she’s beautiful and has big breast but because her heart is pure and full of kindness that she would go out of her way and save someone who had nothing special going in his life and see that this is a guy who can be something amazing he just needs someone to tell him. Just hearing a girl like Rias tell you your special can make you feel like you’re standing on the Moon. Issei is also a good match for her because he doesn’t act like something he’s not. What you see is what you get, he doesn’t try to hide that he’s a pervert and embraces it full-heartedly. While it’s true that his first girlfriend killed him and traumatized him greatly to the point where he didn’t feel safe being in a relationship with anyone he’s able to move on from it find true love in the form of Rias. Rias gave this pervert a second chance and he’s making the most of it by embracing himself in Hell’s forbidden fruit. Way to go Issei, you’re well on your way to becoming a harem king.
#3. Ikuto and Amu from Shugo Chara
//static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100305131650/shugochara/images/1/15/Ikuto_kisses_Amu.jpg
//missykagura.m.i.pic.centerblog.net/o/94ca54f8.jpg
I know it’s awkward to put this couple together seeing how the age gap between them is 7 years but the two do become an official couple by the end of the series and they are a nice couple. Amu has a problem a lot of girls go through; trying to find herself and figuring out where she’s going in life. Surprisingly out of all the characters it was Ikuto who saw her for who she really was long before her crush Tadase. Yeah its true Tadase accepted all of her character later on but it was Ikuto who was the first to say I see you for who you really are and I accept you. I also like the flow of their relationship. Ikuto has a lot on his plate he’s working for people he doesn’t want to work for, doing things he hates, and actually goes out of his way to make his friends hate him so he doesn’t get them involved in his problems. Through all of this the only one person he found comfort in was Amu who he would constantly tease and talk to just to make herself feel better and relieve some of the stress he was building up. In fact throughout the series she’s the only person Ikuto really does confine in. That shows how much she means to him. He’s also always there for her, whenever she’s in danger or needs help Ikuto is always the first one onto the scene to help her. Amu also relied on Ikuto whenever she was stressed out and needed someone to talk to. She was always there to help him whenever he was in danger and ultimately she’s the one who frees Ikuto from the invisible chains that tie him down and stop him from being his true self. The couple were just cute together, had a deep connection with each other and one of the couples I’m glad to actually see happen in the series.
#2. Tomoya and Nagisa from Clannad
//images6.fanpop.com/image/pho…moya-tomoya-and-nagisa-35864817-1680-1050.jpg
//i1263.photobucket.com/albums/ii624/1ceCreamFTW/Claim Pictures/ca-15-1.jpg
//images6.fanpop.com/image/pho…nd-Nagisa-3-anniewannie-34262532-1280-800.jpg
When I first started watching Clannad I really wasn’t rooting for this couple. I was honestly rooting for Tomoyo. The pairing of Tomoya and Nagisa just seemed a little too cliché for me at first. The misunderstood troublesome boy who has no purpose in life gets saved by the good-natured girl whose life is all peachy and good. Boy was I wrong. Tomoya is actually a pretty nice guy, he has a lot of friends who he cares for, and while he’s considered a delinquent he doesn’t go around looking for trouble if anything trouble usually finds him and he just gets caught in it. He doesn’t really seem to have any hate in him except for his father and the town he lives in because of all the bad memories and experiences he had. Nagisa’s life isn’t all peachy and good like I thought it was. She has a serious illness which forces her to repeat the same grade 3 times, low self-esteem, and periodically misses school but she still maintains a positive attitude. What won me over for this couple was how their relationship grew and evolved throughout the series. They worked off each other greatly and whenever the other was down or in trouble it was usually the other helping them back up and encouraging them. Tomoya was always there to give Nagisa the strength to do what she wanted to do and Nagisa was there to encourage and show Tomoya that life and the town he lives in has something good in it. When the two finally become a couple and get married it’s just beautiful and heartwarming to see just a romantic and loving couple who have overcome the hardships in their life and find peace and happiness. Thanks Clannad for proving me wrong and giving me one of the best anime couples I’ve even seen.
And the number one anime couple is. . .
#1. Tamaki and Haruhi from Ouran High Host Club
//images4.fanpop.com/image/pho…ruhi-haruhi-and-tamaki-20907966-1400-1050.jpg
//images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/28200000/More-pics-tamaki-and-haruhi-28226260-1280-1024.jpg
//missioncosplay.blogspot.com/2010/10/my-last-fangirl-squeal-ouran-high.html
This is hands down my favorite couple in anime, the two are just a perfect combination for each other. Tamaki is a childish rich narcissist who thinks that with his princely looks and charm he can do just about anything he wants but at the same time he’s a nice guy who helps others, respects those around him, funny as hell and in truth longs to be around his friends because he doesn’t want to be lonely. Haruhi on the other is a girl who’s smart, straightforward, and responsible making her not easily swayed by Tamaki and the others in the host club. She’s not rich like the others so she has a better understanding of how the world works and tries to solve her problems using common sense without relying on money like the others. It’s because these two are the opposite of each other that they make a good couple. Throughout most of his life Tamaki has been able to get any girl he wants simply through his charm alone but Haruhi comes along and isn’t fooled or swayed by his charm and sees him for the spoiled narcissistic man he is but steadily starts to see how good of a person he is. Because Haruhi isn’t swayed by Tamaki’s charm he actually has to take the opportunity to get to know her better and talk to her more something he rarely does with any of the other girls that come to the host club. He has to put in the time and effort to get to know and befriend Haruhi opening up to her and showing her that there’s more to him than just a pretty face. Because of this he starts to develop romantic feelings for her which he stupidly thinks as a fatherly love for her.
Despite their differences the two are also similar in some ways. First off, they’re dense when it comes to romance. Tamaki thinks his feelings for Haruhi is of that of a father’s love for his daughter and does everything in his powers to protect her from other guys. Haruhi had a lot of guys like her in the series but she was too dense to recognize their feelings for her. Second, they both have a strong sense of helping others. Tamaki and Haruhi are always willing to help out others shockingly Tamaki more than Haruhi even when the person he’s helping out secretly hates him. Third, and probably the biggest similarity these two have in common is that they both have a tragic past which changed their life and made them who they are today. Tamaki never got the chance to be a child because he was taking care of his sick mother so he never got to do all the things a child does which explains why he’s so childish and naïve most of the time. Haruhi on the other hand got to live life as a child until her mother passed away which resulted in her growing up sooner than most kids and her developing a self-reliant personality not really trusting others. It’s because of this the two actually help each other out in a strange way. Tamaki’s childish personality and character makes Haruhi open up more, trust others and allows her to remember the good parts in her life without acting so adult like and instead acting like a high school girl. Haruhi’s mature personality and experience as a child helps Tamaki experience that childhood he never got the chance to have and also allow his true personality to shine through. The two are like mirror opposites each other but at the same time they help each other out unknowingly and making each other a better person. Which in my opinion is what a relationship should be. Finding someone you really care about and love, balancing each other out, and making each other a better person whether you know it or not. It’s because of this that Tamaki and Haruhi are my favorite anime couple. Two characters who look cute character, have great personalities, and make each other better in their relationship while being happy.
Well that’s my list I hope you enjoyed, let me know what you’re favorite anime couple is official or unofficial. This is Nitsuj saying thanks for reading, I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj, to all the couples out there Happy Valentine’s Day, to all the single men and women out there happy S.A.D, and to you guys hoping to propose this Valentine’s Day best of luck to you.
