Project #73: The World God Only Knows Season 3

Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. Guess what, it’s time to review more of The World God Only Knows. *Crowd cheers* Thank you. Thank you. You’re too kind. Yep, I think I’ve made it clear, next to One Piece TWGOK is probably my second favorite manga in the world. The story is just great, and the main character Keima is just awesome just like the manga. And apparently the good folks at anime studio Manglobe (the first two seasons of TWGOK and Samurai Champloo) decided to give the series a third anime centering around the goddess arc said to be the game changer for the entire series. Let’s see what everyone’s favorite gamer is up to and take a look at TWGOK: Goddess Arc.

Episodes 1-4

We start the anime off with Keima talking about how he has conquered 16 girls (technically 14) after the last season (wow he’s been busy). He only touches base on them without going to much in depth about them and I have no time to go into to myself otherwise this blog will be longer than usual (read blog 27.5). The next day on his walk to school Keima is stopped by Diana the goddess inside Tenri a shy girl who is Keima’s childhood friend who has a crush on him. She wants Keima to marry Tenri so it’ll make Tenri happy and increase Diana’s goddess powers since the power of goddess comes from love and she wants Keima to find her 5 sisters. Keima outright refuses to marry Tenri (yeah haven’t you been watching the series the guy is only into 2-D girls) but he somewhat agrees to search for Diana’s sisters who possibly reside in the girls Keima has conquered in the past. When asked how he’ll be able to tell if a goddess resides in a girl Diana simply tells Keima the girl hosting the goddess will remember her time spent with Keima (well that’s not good. Imagine what all 6 girls are gonna have to say to Keima when they regain their memories and find out what he’s been doing. Not gonna be a pretty sight). For the rest of the episode we focus on Kanon who it turns out actually has the goddess Apollo inside of her and remembers her time spent with Keima (you stunned him multiple times. That was funny). She thinks she should talk to Keima about Apollo but Apollo says no because the enemies are close by and it doesn’t help that Kanon is being stalked by a devil who actually tries to kill her. When she goes back to school for exams she feels that the presence of the devil is in the school and starts to get scared (I always feel like, somebody’s watching me~). Not being able to stand it anymore she rushes over to Keima and says she remembers everything and confesses to him (and this is all happening in the middle of the exam. Scene here: //youtu.be/zLd9zytjxIM, love how the teacher has no control of his class. Also I love the looks on everyone’s faces). After confessing Apollo takes over the body and runs off (why would you run away, stay and explain the situation to him or better yet let him talk to you, you know he can help you) where she gets stabbed by the devil Lune the devil who’s been stalking her all this time to end the episode.

In episode 2 Apollo faints from her wound but not before casting a spell in the sky alerting the other goddesses that Hell has betrayed them and that they can trust no one. She’s found by Keima and Elsie where they take her back to his place and call over Haqua and Diana in the hopes that they can remove the knife Lune left in Kanon. They have no luck pulling it out but we do find out the people responsible for the attack is a group of devils known as Vintage who want to revive the loose souls and restore Hell back to its former glory (more like just have anarchy reign in Hell once again). Surprisingly while all of this is going on we actually see Keima looked scared and worried about Kanon. That’s right, Keima, the man who said he had no interest in the real world is actually showing concern for a real life girl and surprisingly this isn’t where he becomes human. No that part comes later. Haqua says that Kanon will die within a week unless the knife is removed from her and Keima decides that the best way to remove the knife is to get another goddess to help them and declares that he’s going to find all the goddesses before the week is over (Keima stepping up his game this season I like that). But before he begin his quest he has to find a stand in for Kanon since she’s incapacitated at the moment (that and there’s a knife piercing her stomach) so they have Elsie use her robe to make people think she’s Kanon while he and Haqua team up to find the goddesses (sorry Elsie fans but she’s gonna be on the sidelines this season) and he gets his mom to leave the house by leaving a fake message saying her husband is on the verge of death (that is so wrong even for him. But it’s so funny at the same time). The next day he easily comes to the conclusion that a goddess will be in girls who are mad at him because of Kanon’s confession the other day (oh sure blame the guy for the confession. Let’s not point fingers at the idol). We see that Chihiro is mad at him after spilling coffee on his head and so is Ayumi who kicks him just because he was in her way (you’re in my sir, please move sir) which means they’re potential host (or just girls who hate his guts). Later on Keima narrows the field to girls who have a goddess in them down to five girls. Ayumi, Chihiro, Yui, Shiori, and Tsukiyo because they’re the girls who interacted with him the most. That night Keima comes to the conclusion that he has to make all the girls fall in love with him again to give them power so they can defend themselves against Vintage in case they attack. So in other words he’s going to be hitting on 5 girls at once (alright he’s going Persona 3 & 4 on us). He sets his plan in motion by confessing to them all over again embarrassing Ayumi and Chihiro greatly (you know it made you happy). Tsukiyo pretends not to know him (oh come on I know he’s not the best looking but you can’t forget someone that weird and interesting) but she lets it slip that she remembers him. He goes to meet Shiori in the library where she makes the cute and quiet gestures that she still remembers Keima (by God, this girl is too cute). As he’s thinking in the library Yui (dressed as a boy) shows up and introduces herself to Keima. Keima plays it off that she’s not a host because she introduced herself and tries to leave but Yui flips the script on him and instead begins to hit on him instead (player vs player, one side will have to submit. Who’s it gonna be? The God of Conquest or the Girl of Conquest). She confesses her feelings to Keima taking him completely off guard and Haqua and Shiori mistake this for a boy on boy romance (*Isis and Mira come charging in* Isis: Did somebody say boy on boy romance? (Mira): Where is it? Show us? *See that Nitsuj is just talking about TWGOK* (Mira): Aww~ nevermind. I should have known it was too good to be true. (Nitsuj): Wait why would you guys care about- (Isis): You just mind your own business and go back to reviewing anime *Isis and Mira leave the room*). Later that night we see that Elsie stopped by the house and made dinner for Keima as well as leave her cellphone and she receives a call from both Ayumi and Chihiro where Keima answers it and confesses to both of them once again (wow confessing to two girls twice in one day. Keima is the man).

In the first half of episode 3 Keima does a walk home event with all the girls in the rain hoping to increase their love points. He starts off with Tsukiyo who I have to admit is cute dressing up in a hood looking like Red Riding Hood (careful Tsukiyo this wolf will howl at just about any girl he crosses. He’s worse than that cartoon wolf from the Tex Avery cartoons). The walk home event goes good with Tsukiyo but he misses Yui and has no choice but to move on to Ayumi who is walking with a friend who brings up the Kanon confession (read the situation lady. Kanon’s life is on the line. You are a terrible wing lady) and they stop at the mall to grab a bite to eat only to see Haqua (under the disguise of Elsie) and Chihiro enter the mall (oh shit death flag alert. Death flag alert). Keima somehow pulls off the Matrix dodging all the bullets coming out on top and raising some love points with both of the two girls (this is why he’s the best at what he does. He juggles girls while dodging bullets and making it all look easy). He goes back to the school to do his walk home event with Shiori where we see she’s writing a story for the school festival taking place soon. The story is basically a retelling of her conquest (in space~) except the roles are reversed and she kills off Keima (ahh~, she killed you off Keima! She killed you off! Hold on Keima, I’ll avenge you). Keima changes up the story and the two participate in a cute round of storytelling until they reach a small conclusion (//youtu.be/6kyrFqudiX8, and thus this cute story shall continue). After his time with Shiori, Yui comes back to the school to flirt with Keima where she gives him a girl uniform for him to wear around the school (stop switching up the roles woman and go back to being a normal girl). Her constant attacks catch Keima off guard and drives him into a corner forcing him to retreat in fear (God of Conquest: 0 Girl of Conquest: 2). The episode ends the next day with Nora coming to visit Keima’s house looking for Elsie and Keima telling Haqua to squeeze her for information (no problem. With that girl’s boobs it’ll be like milking a cow. A chocolate milk cow so to speak. Man, how awesome would that be a chocolate cow).

In episode 4 Keima comes face to face with the third goddess Vulcanus whose host is Tsukiyo. Vulcanus traps Keima in the library where she warns Keima to stay away from Tsukiyo or else (//youtu.be/ZoreFL4noJc, you know I would find this intimidating if it was actually a human talking instead of an emotionless doll). She accuses Keima of sneaking around with other girls but Keima denies all of this and escapes her clutches (//youtu.be/O4RH_C2P14U, yeah it’s undeniable proof that Keima loves ramen, excellent work goddess now let’s find out what he does in his spare time). Keima reaches the rooftop where Tsukiyo is and tries to speak with her but she refuses to trust him and Vulcanus refuses to let Keima get close to Tsukiyo by blocking his path with benches and pummeling him with tiles on the roof (man she’s worse than a father trying to protect his daughter from a bad boy). After taking a beating from the goddess and reminding Tsukiyo of their time together Keima is able to earn Tsukiyo’s trust again and the two kiss allowing Tsukiyo to get her wings (//youtu.be/oomXOXfcy7A, alright fuck Red Bull. Kissing Keima gives you wings). They return to Keima’s house where Haqua has shown Nora Kanon’s body and explained the situation to her (you were supposed to milk her for information not have her milk you) and Keima has called Diana over who is shocked to see that Vulcanus has wings while she doesn’t (jealous much). Diana and Vulcanus remove the knife out of Kanon saving her (hurrah) but Apollo but a spell on herself putting her and Kanon into a deep coma where the only chances of getting her out are to either help her regain her powers or have Mercurius pull her out (hurroh). Keima strikes a deal with Nora from telling Hell about the goddesses promising to let her have full credit for finding and restoring the goddesses. With Kanon at least saved Keima takes a breath of relief and can now make plans to move on to his next target.

Episodes 5-8

Keima moves on to Yui as his next target in episode 5 because she’s constantly approaching him and he can’t stand it (like I said somebody’s gotta give in and play the conquered). Keima comes to this conclusion and decides to let Yui conquer him but since Yui prefers to act like a boy in a girl’s body Keima must become a girl in a boy’s body (he wouldn’t). The next day at school Keima gets the attention of Yui by dressing up as a girl (YES! He did it! Holy shit, he actually had the balls to pull it off) and acting all shy and girly to show off his cute side (and the best part about all of this is he pulls off the look excellently. He really does look like a girl). At lunch Keima asks Yui out on a date after which catches Yui off guard and she retreats saying she’ll think about it (and Keima has finally scored a point off Yui, //youtu.be/fuKeZV4l_b4, gotta love Shiori’s face at the end she has no idea what she’s gotten herself involved with. Just like the Broncos when they almost got blown out at this year’s Super Bowl,//youtu.be/VECe-cwG7do). After leaving Keima, Yui goes to the bathroom where the goddess inside of her awakens revealing herself to be Mars the goddess of war (//youtu.be/AZcuwxx9IIs) who mistakes Yui for a boy and Keima for a girl (even though she hasn’t met him yet). After school Yui goes on her date with Keima still dressed as a girl (//youtu.be/4F4qzPbcFiA) to a theme park that’s a cross between Disney World and Sea World (the ultimate tourist trap for children). The date goes well and they go into what I wanna say is a haunted castle but it’s more like an RPG experience where they have to go inside and the defeat the demon lord (this ride needs to be real). Yui gets separated from Keima who gets captured by Haqua posing as a member of Vintage to make Yui save him and increase her love points big time. As Haqua is about to stab him with the Vintage knife Mars takes over and attacks her (//youtu.be/i-OC34zhe6U, *Final Fantasy Victory Theme* Haqua got pwn’d FTW). With Keima saved Yui kisses him revealing her true feelings and getting her wings (//youtu.be/EoehDV8KJ8U, good for her she found her prince. Or trince so to speak. A mixed between a trap and a prince). Keima and Haqua go back home where they’re greeted by Elsie who has come home to cook dinner since her radio show got cancelled to end the episode.

In episode 6 Keima moves on to Shiori who while being the easiest to approach out of all the targets, she’s also the hardest to conquer because of her problem she’s currently dealing with. She wants to write a story for the school festival the problem is she has nothing to write about (girl you’ve read just about every book in this entire library you have a lot to talk about). Keima helps her out by giving her an interesting subject to write about. Himself (yes, I can see it now. Interview with a cross-dressing skirt-chasing dating sim game loving perverted freak: The Keima Katsuragi story). The next day Keima goes to the library to check on Shiori’s process and we see she has written nothing for her story (this is a situation I imagine a manga writer and editor go through every week. (Manga Artist): I have nothing for my story. (Editor): WRITE SOMETHING THE DEADLINE IS TOMMORROW DAMNIT! MY ASS IS ON THE LINE). In order to get Shiori to write her story Keima locks Shiori in the library and stays by her side until she finishes her story. For the rest of episode all we see is Shiori not sure what to write about and remembering the events from her conquest. Once Keima just tells Shiori to write about herself instead of him (oh but Keima you have such. . .an interesting life to write about). Taking Keima’s advice Shiori begins to write about her life, how many books she’s read, what she liked and didn’t like about them, her friends and their relationships with each other, and finally confessing that she loves Keima (as do 5 other girls but there’s no need to tell her that). After Keima reads her story while she’s asleep the goddess inside Shiori named Minerva comes out and as you would expect just like Shiori the goddess Minerva is adorable (//youtu.be/xXHTLKxDP9o, just turn her into a plush doll and I guarantee you it’ll sale like crazy). Once Shiori wakes up Keima gives an appropriate response to her feelings by kissing her on the cheek (if it had been on the lips chances are she would have passed out) giving her a bracelet for protection in case she’s in any danger and we end with Shiori meeting Minerva (//youtu.be/Bmf1OBcGxYk). Well there’s only one goddess left and we have two candidates. Is it Ayumi the athletic girl or is it Chihiro the normal girl?

Not a whole lot happens in episode 7. Keima has caught a cold and can’t go to school and to make the situation a little more annoying and difficult Haqua has gone back to Hell for a meeting and Ryo Nora’s idiotic partner has come over to check on Keima and keep him company (no, you are not worthy to stand in Keima’s grace leave). Keima uses Elsie’s phone to call Ayumi to get her to come over and check up on him since he’s sick. Chihiro also calls Elsie’s cell and Keima acts mean to her to get her to stay away from his house. Ayumi comes over to check on Keima but so does Chihiro with Ryo stupidly letting Chihiro into the house (//youtu.be/gmx3zfe63ZQ?t=42s). Keima hides Ayumi in his sheets and Chihiro comes in to play him a song she plans on singing for the festival. After the song she decides to leave but not before telling Keima she loves him (oh shit and right in front of Ayumi). After that Keima now has to decide who to focus on in the conquest for the final goddess and he chooses Chihiro (I would have gone with Ayumi). He tries to call her but Ayumi calls her and instead they talk about the confession with Ayumi not telling Chihiro that she was at Keima’s house and saying she’s going to support her (no~). Ayumi leaves the house not upset at all and telling Keima to be nicer to Chihiro from now on (oh God a storm is on the horizon and it brings Hell).

Episode 8 can be split into two parts technically three parts. First off Haqua goes to her meeting in Hell and stupidly talks about the rumors of the heavenly beings their supposed to hunt possibly being goddesses and that Vintage might have infiltrated their ranks (//youtu.be/yytbDZrw1jc, what the hell was she thinking? She was in a forest of wolves and now she just alerted all of them. It’s like she went all in on a poker game and the only thing she’s got is a pair of two’s and she’s hoping everyone else playing doesn’t call her bluff). As she’s leaving she gets arrested and thrown in jail where Nora comes to visit her to tell her that their bureau chief Dokoro might possibly be an agent working for Vintage. In the second half we return to Keima who gets a night visit from Diana (a night visit can only mean one thing. Time to max out Diana in one go and knock on her heavenly door. Oh yeah). She wants Keima to call over her sisters so they can awaken Apollo (still in the friend zone. Okay, I can wait a little longer). With the help of Elsie, Keima gets the goddesses to his house safely and once they’re all up they fight over Keima (//youtu.be/IeIVqSqUdig, Keima truly is the God of Conquest. He has goddesses fighting over him like a boss) but Diana breaks up the fight by giving an important announcement (//youtu.be/Udsgh4qyR-w, she should have said he’s already slept with Tenri that would have sealed the deal). After that they all go upstairs and try to awaken Apollo but Keima gets sucked into her coma where we find out she can’t go back yet because she’s busy praying. Apparently there’s a dark force spreading through the city and Apollo is trying to stop it but she can only keep it up for 3 more days. Keima returns from the water coma (cured of his cold) and sends the other goddesses home so that he can prepare for tomorrows conquest. In the third part of the show Keima believes that Chihiro is the one holding the goddess so he abandons his quest with Ayumi and focuses his attention on Chihiro who has invited Keima to the bonfire that is going on for the first night of the festival. As the bonfire is getting started Keima tries to find a quiet spot where he can be alone with Chihiro but all the spots are full with other couples (scram lovebirds we’re trying to save the world here. And maybe get some action on the side). As Keima thinks about giving up on finding a private spot Chihiro decides to keep on looking and the two hold hands willingly to end the episode (he’s falling for her).

Episodes 9-12

Things take a bad turn for Keima in episode 9. First off he finds out that Chihiro doesn’t have a goddess inside her because when Keima tries to kiss she says it’s her first time meaning she doesn’t remember her conquest or time spent with him (you dun fucked up Keima). Chihiro confesses that she’s been in love with Keima long before her conquest (odd considering that she’s had no interaction with him except for calling him names and belittling him) and she kisses him. You know, it’s said that this was the scene that turned a lot of people into Chihiro fans that this was the scene that made people want to see Keima end up with Chihiro at the end. I can respect that, I have nothing against her, she’s a good character but what’s stop me from going over to Chihiro’s side is the fact that she doesn’t give a concrete reason why she loves him. She just says she loves him because she loves him and that’s all the reason she needs. No, that does not work with me. You can’t just say you love someone because you love them and you don’t need a reason to love them that’s not how a relationship works. If anything that how a lot of relationships fall apart. A person loves someone but then somewhere down the line stops loving them and either breaks up with them or divorces them. In a relationship you have to give a legitimate reason why you like the person you’re with. Take for example Naruto and Hinata. The reason why Hinata loves Naruto is because he was the first person to acknowledge her. He stood up for her, he recognized that Hinata isn’t a failure she’s a strong ninja and has the potential to be one of the greatest ninjas in the village. Throw in the fact that Hinata likes how Naruto never gives up when he fails or when the odds are stacked him, how he was always smiling even when people despised him, and how not once he never complains about his life being unfair along with many other reasons and you can see why Hinata has feelings for him. Chihiro, you’re a good girl and I’m sure you and Keima would make a cute couple but you need to give at least one legit reason why you love Keima other than you just love him because you love him. Anyway Keima tells Chihiro that he doesn’t love her and that the only reason he went out with her was to get back at her for making fun of him. This of course brings Chihiro to tears and she runs off heartbroken (wow that was cold-blooded but it had to be done). To make things worse Ayumi followed them to the roof and saw the whole thing and out of anger gives Keima a high knee kick to the stomach before running off (//youtu.be/F2IdUeM-up8?t=18s). He goes back home feeling depressed (it’s happened he’s become a part of the 3D world but this isn’t his crowning moment). Diana shows up and confesses that she’s fallen in love with Keima (and give her credit she actually has a legit reason why she likes Keima) and tries to get Tenri to confess her feelings to Keima (this is the worst possible time Diana) but she’s too shy to do it and Keima is too depressed to listen to her. Luckily, Tenri recognizes Keima’s bad mood and does a few magic tricks to cheer him up (well that was nice of her, I might just start rooting for her). The next day at school Elsie shows up (hurray~) and with her help Keima figures out that his school and the goddesses are connected somehow (the plot thickens). He decides to investigate the tunnel that had all the loose souls gathered up when he was a child but someone has sealed it off so he goes to the beach with Elsie and finds the Vintage base where they’ve been harvesting loose souls and transforming them into Weiss ferocious creatures that will do some major damage on the city if unleashed (//youtu.be/ZSJSWGpXbMg). Keima decides it’s time to leave and tells Elsie to get them the hell out of there (he recognizes the death flag). Keima decides that what he saw has nothing to do with him (I couldn’t agree more) and that he should continue to focus on finding the last goddess (and that my friend is a whole new kind of danger. Much bigger than what Vintage is cooking up).

In episode 10 Keima tries to conquer Ayumi but she’s still mad at what he did yesterday (can’t blame her) and Chihiro keeps getting in the way (just tell her what’s going on and I’m sure she’ll be willing to help). After Ayumi consults with Mercrius the goddess inside of her about her feelings she decides to call out to Chihiro and confess to her that she’s been in love with Keima all this time as well and that she wants to confess to him (no offence ladies but you got some strange taste in men). Keima tries to confess to Ayumi but all three of them get captured by Vintage who figure out that the goddesses might be hiding in the bodies of Keima’s target so they capture all of the girls Keima conquered in the past including those who have goddesses (//youtu.be/Hxm4OiaYk-0). As their being captured they get rescued by none other than Haqua (//youtu.be/GoNQfr72i8I) who was rescued by Dokoro who had Haqua arrested to keep her safe from Vintage and sneak her out of Hell to go back to Earth and open up a can a whoop ass on Vintage (//youtu.be/FQsCDdStN60). Keima and Haqua play it off as play done by the special effects society (with Michael Bay as the advisor no doubt) and Ayumi decides to go home where’s she followed by Nora who decides to look after her in place of Haqua. Keima, Haqua, and Chihiro (dragged along by Keima) go back to his house where we see Kanon has been captured but luckily Diana is safe. Haqua explains to Keima that Vintage plans on killing the goddesses which will break the seal separating Hell and Earth allowing a swarm of Weiss to enter Earth and make Earth the new Ancient Hell (in other words Vintage wants take over the world, //youtu.be/X8u7px_GzWQ). In order to avoid in all-out war Keima sticks to the original plan and focuses on trying to bring out Ayumi’s goddess and he decides to drag Chihiro along for the conquest (he just does whatever he wants when it comes to love doesn’t he).

In episode 11 Keima goes to Ayumi’s house and gets her to meet him at a location otherwise he won’t give back her stolen panties that Nora stole (okay, this season he’s a crossover, a skirt-chaser, a liar who stomps on the feelings of girls, and now he’s a panty stealing pervert. The word scum doesn’t even come close to describing Keima anymore). He tries to do one last big event to get Ayumi but Vintage keeps showing up and he has to change locations every time (cockblockers). Chihiro finds out why Keima is so determined to get Ayumi to love him and doesn’t like the way Keima is treating this like a game (//youtu.be/J-Q4AkJ9iIU, exactly, this is how the man works Chihiro. I admit it’s sorta wrong but you can’t argue with the results. It’s gotten him this far so why change) so she tells Ayumi what Keima is up to which upsets Ayumi again and she smacks him before running off (okay now that he deserved). Chihiro tells Keima to stop playing around and seriously fall in love with Ayumi which he agrees to do. Finally, maybe now we can see what Keima really- *sees Keima confront Ayumi while riding a white horse* O_O WILL YOU TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY! So yeah Keima goes against the social norm and remains true to his gamer self but he does seriously try to get Ayumi to like him (you showing up on a white horse isn’t helping). Ayumi doesn’t fall for his tricks and she tells Keima to marry her which he accepts but Ayumi doesn’t believe him (yeah I call bullshit too) and she tells her parents she’s going to marry Keima to get him to back down but he refuses and tells her as well as her parents that he’s going to marry her, he even gives her a wedding dress to show how serious he is (focus Dad, he’s talking about marrying your baby girl. Kill him). Ayumi agrees to marry him but only if he says he loves her which he says but it’s not good enough for Ayumi because she believes Keima isn’t being sincere when he says it (she is correct) and she goes off to the beach to wait for his confession. We end with Lune finding them and Haqua deciding to take her on to give Keima and Chihiro a chance to escape.

In final episode Haqua takes on Lune where we see she’s (what’s the right word I’m looking for) crazy (//youtu.be/9HMeE6-ERew, I swear Lune is getting off on this). Back on Keima parts Keima and Ayumi get married on the ghost ship which is right in front OF VINTAGE’S HIDEOUT and they don’t try to stop it or show up to stop it (wow Vintage, you got the whole city on lockdown yet you can’t even tell when a goddess is right in front of your doorstep. And these are the guys who are gonna resurrect Hell again). Keima and Ayumi kiss and the goddess Mercurius awakens just in time for Vintage to come in and surround them (oh now they show up, where were you guys 20 minutes ago) but Diana grabs Mercurius and makes her way to Vintage’s hideout. The Loose Soul squad shows up along with Akari and they go to attack Vintage’s hideout along with Diana. With all the goddesses rescued Keima and Chihiro head home since the fight doesn’t involve thrm (not that they could possibly do anything to help) and we see snippets of the battle where Diana, Mercurius, and the Loose soul squad save all the girls, the goddesses resurrect Apollo and use their combined powers to destroy Vintage’s hideout, and Lune retreats from her fight with Haqua realizing her team has lost. We end the season with Chihiro’s band along with Kanon performing at the festival and getting one of the most touching scenes in the entire anime (//youtu.be/bSOh9gELWmE, and with that scene at 2:02 Keima has fully become human. Welcome to the 3D world Keima, we’ve been expecting you. Oh yeah I forgot to mention Keima’s homeroom teacher Nikaido is a devil in disguise working with Akari. Didn’t really seem all that important or play a major role in the anime so I didn’t bring it up).

Final Thoughts

This season was awesome. The story has changed and gotten a lot bigger and more serious. Throughout the season we see Keima become more and more a part of the real world. He displays more emotions than he normally does in the past but he still maintains that gamer-like mind and you’ll notice throughout the entire season he didn’t play any games or attempt to play them. That’s so unlike him. I like the girls this time around as well, we get to see some of our favorites from the past seasons as well as a few new characters and I like how they each have a different relationship with Keima. I like how Yui is more assertive and is constantly attacking Keima forcing him to go on the defense and be the one getting conquered instead of the one conquering. Shiori as well as Tenri are both cute and quiet girls but you can’t help but be drawn to them. Tsukiyo is kinda like a mix between Mio and Shiori, she’s a quiet person who keeps to herself but at the same time she gives off this rich girl aura and has a habit of looking down on others. Ayumi is Ayumi, if you’ve watched the first season you’ll notice that not a wholelot has changed with her but I do like how she’s considerate about the feelings of others and actually willing to sacrifice her love for Keima to give her best friend a shot at happiness. The one girl who stood out the most this season was Chihiro for actually falling in love with Keima and being the only girl to have actual feelings for him before all of this business with Hell started. While I’m not a fan of the couple I will admit I do find it sad and tragic that Keima can’t enjoy his first relationship with a girl because of this goddess business. Even at the end of the series he’s quite sad by it and hates himself for saying such awful things to Chihiro which makes you think he might actually have feelings for her. The goddesses are also quite funny and interesting, I wish we got more time to see them, they’re all quite funny and interesting and actually have similar characteristics to their host but also stay different from them. My favorite goddess so far is Vulcanus, she’s said to be the oldest of the goddesses but also the most weakest of them. She has bad eye sight, hearing, and can’t walk but she’s the most assertive when it comes to Keima and his relationship with Tsukiyo going as far as frightening to kill Keima if he should ever hurt or betray Tsukiyo. That’s both cute and funny on her part.

The one major problem I have with this season is that they skipped a few events and left out a somewhat important character. In the manga there’s a second Vintage member who Keima, Haqua, and Nora capture with the help of Vulcanus and is actually the one who attacked Kanon instead of Lune but the anime leaves her out and instead has Lune take her spot instead which is quite odd if you’ve read the manga and know what happens. Lune really didn’t play a major role in the goddess arc until the very end when she told Vintage to attack Keima’s targets. The only other major thing she did was come close to finding Kanon and Keima’s house other than that she really wasn’t that major of a character as the anime portrayed her. I know that when it comes to adaptations they have to take things out for time but removing a somewhat important character who had a few funny scenes doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Other than that the anime is still very good. The animation is the same as the other two seasons so not much change there, the music is always great to listen to, and the characters and story in my opinion are great and what makes this series so great to watch and read.

Is it better than the last seasons

I say yes. Like I said before the story has become bigger and more exciting. It’s not just about conquering girls and stopping the loose souls from being reborn into the world. It’s about saving the world and saving the life of someone Keima holds dear to him. Also there’s major character development on Keima’s part, he’s becoming more human and a part of the real world now displaying emotions more but still maintaining that gamer-like mind.

Final Score

The third season of TWGOK is a 7.5/10. The story is better this time around, there’s a lot more at risk, and the character development on some of the characters is great. If you’ve watched the first two seasons and liked them you’ll be blown away by the third season at how far the story has come and evolved and if you haven’t yet I highly recommend reading the manga because the story keeps getting better so much better. Thanks for reading, I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.
