Sora no Otoshimono Final: Eternal My Master rant

*Earlier this week Justin aka Nitsuj sat down with anticipation to watch Sora no Otoshimono Final: Eternal My Master movie which would cover the last chapter/s of Sora no Otoshimono marking the end of the series. After watching the movie he experience a rage like he never felt since watching Negima!? The following blog are his personal thoughts on the movie.*

You fucking failures! One job! You had just one job and one job only. Taking the last chapters of the manga, animate them, and ship the movie out. What do we get instead, a half-ass movie that serves only as a recap to events in the manga, shows these events out of order, and fucks up everything! How? How the hell did they screw this up? This is what I was talking about in my reviews on Mahou Sensei Negima and Negima!?, why couldn’t they have just followed the source material? Why is that so hard to do for anime companies out there? I don’t mind small changes here and there but when you do masses changes like this movie and the Negima animes that don’t pay any respect, has no effort put into it, and shows that the crew working on them have no idea or knowledge of the source material than we have a serious problem. Now, I’m not a big fan of Sora no Otoshimono, I think the manga and anime are okay, I got a good laugh out of the series and did enjoy reading it. The characters were funny, the morals and stories interesting, surprisingly dark twists here and there, and plenty of funny ecchi moments that kept you entertained. So overall while I’m not as big fan of this series as a lot of other people out there I do respect and like this series, and to watch this series get treated like shit which is what the movie did I can’t help but get mad and pissed off. This whole movie was just one big disappointment for fans everywhere. This was one of the few movies I was looking forward to watching this year because the final chapter of this series is quite sad, uplifting, funny, and ends on a good note. One that has a few plotholes but one that’s satisfying and I was looking forward to seeing how they animated it. Well here comes Production IMS to fuck it up for us and give us a shitty movie that wastes 50 minutes of our time not covering the final chapter at all, giving us a recap, and ending on a what the fuck note like Evangelion. On top that the animation isn’t really all that good, it looks as if the animation took a downgrade from the anime. It’s not bad per se but when you compare the movie’s animation to the animation used in the anime you’ll see the difference and you will be disappointed in it. It’s a real shame too because the studio that did the animation for this movie also helped in the animation for a lot of other anime like Date A Live II, Mushibugyō, Inari Kon Kon, they’re even working on Aldonah Zero. I haven’t had time to watch Aldonah Zero yet because I’ve been busy with other animes and work but I’ve seen snippets of the anime and that animation is nice especially on the mechs, they actually look real and the fight scenes are well animated as well. So what went wrong with the animation for this movie? Was there budget constraints or something because it really does feel like this was on budget constraints big time?

Now, to this movies credit it does include a special where they actually do show the real ending of the manga but the only problem is it’s not animated at all. They literally just photocopied the last chapter of the manga, turn it into a slideshow, and just have the voice actors read the dialog. While this is still lazy, sad, and disappointing on their part this does calm my hatred a little but I’m still pissed about this entire situation. Why the hell would you do that? You be better off finding a manga site and just reading the last chapter/s yourself which would take you only 5-10 minutes instead of just having them read it to you which takes them 22 minutes. Hell, that’s like one anime episode right there. The special is the one that should have animated, that’s all they had to do. If they would have just did that in the first place everybody would have been happy with the movie as well as any changes that might have been made as long as those changes didn’t disrespect or take anything away from the source material. I don’t care if you have budget constraints, time constraints, or any other kinds of constraints when you’re ask or told to animate the work of someone you treat it with respect like it’s your own work and if you can’t do that than don’t bother working on it. Okay, I’m done, if I had to give this movie a score it be 1.5/10 with the only thing stopping it from being 1 is because they actually showed the true ending albeit a lazy slideshow but it’s still the true ending to the manga. My advice, don’t watch this movie and just read the manga. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been licensed so you sure be able to find it online with ease. It’s a real shame this had to happen to the series and I hope in the future something like this doesn’t happen ever again. Thanks for reading, tune in next week when I continue my review on Log Horizon on the next Project Nitsuj.
