With the way I praised The Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo you would think one of these two was my favorite cartoon cartoon. Well you’re somewhat right they’re up there on the list. If I had to name my favorite cartoon cartoon I would have to give it to Ed, Edd, n Eddy. Getting started back in 1999 and ending in 2009 Ed, Edd, n Eddy is Cartoon Network’s longest running cartoon cartoon. The show centered around three boys known as The Eds. The first one was Eddy, the leader of the group who was a loud-mouth snake and the guy who came up with the plans. Edd known as Double D in the show was the smart guy, the conscious of the group who made all kinds of inventions, was a neat freak, and the voice of reason in the group. Finally Ed the muscle of the group, a lovable dimwit who was the heart of the group and cared deeply for everyone around him. He also had terrible hygene and would spout off irregular sentences and phases that were out of context and made no sense whatsoever which made him the funniest of The Eds. They also had great side characters each based off of people the creator of the show Danny Antonucci knew in real life. There was Kevin the typical jock who always hated on the Eds, Nazz the neighborhood hottie, Rolf the foreign exchange student from the old country, Sarah, Ed’s mean little sister, Jimmy, Sarah’s best friend who kept getting hurt and acted very feminine for a boy which let’s be honest he was gay we all knew it, Jonny the annoying loner and his imaginary friend Plank a 2×4 wood plank, and The Kanker sisters who were the antagonists in the series and had a crush on the Eds.
Each episode the Eds would try to scam the neighborhood kids out of money which they would use to buy jawbreakers. These jawbreakers must be pretty expensive because each scam had them really trying to take everyone’s money and not just 25 cents. The scams that they did were creative and clever but each time something would go wrong in the end (usually Ed messing up) and the scam would wind up failing with them in pain which is where the comedy of the show was at its best. A lot of their scams were good, they put a lot of effort into them and some cases they would work but because of one thing or another they would always fail at the end but at the same time they would never give up and try again with a different scam. The show mostly took place during the dog days of summer until the 5th season where school FINALLY started back up for them which was also where the animation got a slight upgrade but the episodes weren’t as funny as the previous seasons. They were still funny but just not as funny as the previous seasons. The show had a number of specials such as two Halloween specials, a Christmas special, and even a TV movie which marked the ending of the series.
For me what makes this show my favorite show was that the comedy was great. I wish I could explain it but there was just something about the way it’s done. Each episode hits all the right notes and makes me laugh nonstop. Another thing I liked about the show are the characters chances are you know someone like the Eds or you were one of the Eds if not one of the side characters in the show so this show was something you could relate to if not find amusing. I heard a lot of people wanted Plank to talk in the show but no that would have ruined the concept of Plank. Plank is an imaginary friend bought to life by the imagination of Jonny to help him do things he normally wouldn’t do which is the point of an imaginary friend. It was just a show showing a group of kids trying to get rich and get things they wanted in life while hitting a number of bumps along the way and us the viewers getting a good laugh out of those bumps. It was Cartoon Network’s longest running show and the channels highest rated show. Thank you Eds for your years of laughter, enjoy your place in the animated Hall of Fame.
