After watching a disappointing fanservice anime I decided I wanted to show everyone what a good fanservice anime is. Enter R-15 a series about a young boy named Taketo a student at a high school for geniuses where we see he’s a genius at writing erotic novels which of course everyone finds disgusting and all the girls except a few of them try to avoid him. The anime just follows his school life as he deals with the stress of dealing with his friends, come up with new ideas for a novel, and trying to have a normal life in a crazy school.
Like I said in my review this isn’t really an anime I would consider good but in terms of a fanservice anime this is what I was hoping Senran Kagura would follow. The story is tolerable and the fanservice for the most part is done really well. It doesn’t feel out of place, it’s timed perfectly, and it’s good fanservice. The characters also have some interesting personalities. While Taketo is considered a pervert by his peers he doesn’t show any signs of hating what he does and at times easily embraces his own eroticism that often helps him save the day. Even though in the past he was shunned because of this you can tell he’s trying to move on from it and just wants people to accept him for who he really is. Yes, he writes erotic novels but at the same time he’s a good person who cares about his friends and those around him. The rest of the characters are also tolerable but we never get a chance to really explore them as much as I would have liked the anime to do. The one character I didn’t like particularly like was Fukune. Again, she’s supposed to be the naïve, pure and innocent girl that you don’t want to corrupt and the object of Taketo’s affection but she is so bland, forgetful, and way too innocent and naïve for my taste. I also don’t like how Utae’s affections for Taketo go unnoticed by him even though it’s shown he likes her as well and gives obvious signs that she’s interested in him but they go unnoticed. I admit this is one of the major annoyances in harem animes. It has a good sense of humor as you will see something in each episode that gets a good laugh out of you. Whether it be Taketo in agony or his exaggerated expressions you’ll find something that makes you laugh. The original score for this anime was 6/10 but today I would change it to a 5.5/10. The reason that is because I wanted to learn more about the others and see some development on their part and yeah Utae’s affections for Taketo going on unnoticed annoys me a lot more today than it did in the past. Not really what I consider a good anime but if you’re looking for a good fanserivce anime, this is for you.
