Project #472: SK8 the Infinity

Hello and welcome to Project Nitsuj. The 90s was known for a lot of things and gave rise to a new type of sport, extreme sports. Yes, the 90s saw the birth of extreme sports. It was the quickest way to be cool and just screamed 90s rebellion that we all know and love. I’ll admit I wasn’t too big into extreme sports growing up, but I understood the appeal of it. Doing cool tricks, hanging out with your friends, customizing your boards. It was no different than building your own PC like some kids do today. In 2021 we got an anime that paid homage to this radical era and that anime was SK8 the Infinity. In original idea created by Hiroko Utsumi best known for her work on Free, Banana Fish, and a number of KyoAni and MAPPA animes. Now while the anime was produced by Bones (MHA and FMA: Brotherhood) there was another studio that contributed greatly to the production of the anime and that studio was Studio No Border. Don’t know who they are? Well do the animes Code Lyoko and Oban Star-Racers ring a bell? That’s right, this was the French studio that created Code Lyoko and did the character designs for Oban Star-Racers as well as designs for a lot of animes such as Space Dandy. This studio was called in to design the skateboards for the show and were told to make them so well that they could work in real life. So what’s there to say about this anime? Well, it’s a fun anime. It’s one of those animes you can relax and enjoy watching without much thought. Originally, I was going to skip over watching it but I saw a clip of it on Youtube, liked what I saw and decided to check it out. Apparently, I liked it so much I named it one of my top 11 animes from 2021. Since it’s the start of a new year I figured we start the year off on a fun note and what better way to do that then by reviewing this fun anime? We’ll also be checking out the dub as this was an anime where I feel the English cast is better than the Japanese cast. Let’s hit the streets and catch some air. This is SK8 the Infinity.

Opening and Ending Theme

The opening for the anime is “Paradise” by Rude α who did the first ending of Dr. Stone. I’ve named this one of my favorite openings from 2021 so you now how good it is. The song just perfectly encapsulates the series and is a fun song to listen to whether you’re chilling in your room, driving down the road or working out. It’s a song I never get tired of listening to.

The ending is “Infinity” by Yuuri. You can definitely feel the 90s summer vibe from this song. It’s a very chill song and represents the relationship between the two main characters and how much they value their friendship with each other. I especially like all the fails everyone is doing throughout the ending.

Episodes 1-4

So the anime starts with one of our main characters Reki voiced by Matt Shipman (Chrome from Dr. Stone) asking what is happiness? Is it money, hooking up with others, getting into the best school, or climbing up the social ladder at work (we call that kissing ass)? For Reki, the answer is none of these things, it’s skateboarding and not just any kind of skateboarding but a special kind known as S. We see that Reki participates in S an underground skateboard race (think card games on skateboards minus the card games. Madness, I know) where it’s pretty popular among the people (although I think some of them take it too seriously). We see Reki take on this guy named Shadow (who looks like a failed extra from Mad Max: Clown Edition) in a race and lose after his skateboard got set on fire by a firecracker and he even injures his arm (be lucky that’s the only thing that got injured). The next day in Reki’s school we meet our other main character Langa voiced by Howard Wang (Natsuru from Kampfer) a new student who just transferred from Canada (*Canada’s national anthem begins to play*) and like most MCs he’s a little quiet and weird but that may be just be his nationality showing (https://youtu.be/TQoJrg8uqjI). After Langa bumps into Reki after school, he lands a part-time job at the skate shop Reki works at and gets his first task which is dropping off a skateboard at S the next night (scene here: https://youtu.be/I4SOhiPmB80. Now one of the things you’ll quickly notice with the dub is audio quality issues with some of the voices. This is mostly due to the fact that the VAs recorded their lines in their home studios. Due to covid the VAs couldn’t record in the same studio, so they were forced to work from their home studios. Since everyone uses different equipment, some voices are better than others. For example, Reki’s voice sounds way better when compared to Langa’s voice which is a shame because these voices actually do match up with the characters rather well. It’s just unfortunate they all can’t sound great). During that time we learn a little more about S such as how it’s top secret, anything goes (yeah we figured that out earlier), and each racer has to bet something of value in each race. On the night of S, Langa and Reki go to make the delivery where Reki grabs the wrong bag and they don’t have time to go back and get the real one. As punishment Reki gets ordered by the client to race against Shadow in his place on a wrecked skateboard (that looks like it could fall apart at any moment). Since Reki is injured Langa volunteers to take his place despite being a total noob who can’t stay on the skateboard (well then I hope we have an ambulance nearby). In order to stay on the board, Langa duct tapes his feet to it (again, have the ambulance on standby) and the race is on. Langa starts off slow giving Shadow a hefty lead, but once he starts to get the feel for what he’s doing he catches up to Shadow giving us a very cool and well shot skating sequence (the music is also great as well). We find out that Langa actually used to snowboard in Canada (it was either that or hockey. I would have chosen the former as well) which isn’t that much different than snowboarding. Both sports require good balance, body control, incorporate the same tricks and have similar styles. Even professional snowboarders admit that they do skateboarding as a form of off-season training. Getting back to the race, Langa manages to win to the surprise of everyone (scene here: https://youtu.be/Mw-DXBmQqXs, he didn’t just win he won in style).

At the start of episode 2 Reki is still amazed about what he saw last night and Langa receives lessons on how to skate properly (scene here: https://youtu.be/HUuihbcZreQ). While that’s going, we see Langa’s race (or beef as they call it) against Shadow has gone viral and attracted the attention of a few other skaters. Some of them being Kaoru aka Cherry Blossom voiced by Daman Mills and Joe voiced by Jonah Scott. These two are a lot of fun and serve as the bickering couple of the anime. They’re childhood friends who are the complete opposite of each other yet somehow are friends (they’re like Zoro and Sanji from One Piece. They’re friends but at the same time they can’t stand each other. Scene here: https://youtu.be/ELBEfgWDHJI). Even Shadow seems pissed that he lost who outside of S is a friendly neighborhood florist (not gonna lie, I find that funny. Talk about living a double life). Back with Langa, his training isn’t going as smoothly as we would have hoped as he just can’t get used to the board. In snowboarding your feet are attached to the board so wherever your feet go the board goes with it. In skateboarding your feet aren’t attached and therefore you have to use more effort and control to get it to go where you want to go (this is why some say skateboarding is harder). In order to fix this Reki decides to design Langa a custom board with foot straps to accommodate him. We go to Reki’s house and meet his family (scene here: https://youtu.be/ybCFUUv6ETc) and Reki gets to work customizing Langa’s board where he shows him some videos and explains the different types of boards there are (and I have to admit as someone who never really got into skateboarding I am completely interested in these discussions. The way Reki talks about skateboarding you can tell how passionate he is about the sport and seeing how Langa hangs on every word he speaks and absorbs all this information you can tell he’s starting to fall in love with the sport as well. One advantage I do think skateboarding has over snowboarding is that nothing is off limits. Snowboarding requires a mountain and snow while skateboarding requires one’s active imagination and ingenuity. Where there’s a will and creativity you can skate just about anywhere). After two weeks of training, getting his new board, and having a heart to heart talk with Reki where we find out Langa’s dad passed away which is why he and his mom moved back to Japan, Langa manages to land an ollie (scene here: https://youtu.be/1-PWNF51KWY). At the end of the episode Langa gets approached by Miya voiced by Ry McKeand. A junior high student who’s a hopeful for the Olympics (don’t you have to be 18 to qualify for the Olympics?), loves cats and video games. He (at least I hope that’s a he. (Baron): Me too. Either way it’s not gonna change my fanfic. It’s only gonna make it more awkward) wants to challenge Langa to a race. He’s looking for a challenge and a rare monster has just appeared on the field for him to fight (he’s big game hunting. Or shiny hunting if you want to go insane).

In episode 3 we start with Langa accepting Miya’s challenge. While at S to do some training, Miya shows up and starts talking some trash to Reki who he considers a slime (I personally view him as the blacksmith). This leads to a short beef between him and Miya followed by Langa where one of his straps break (scene here: https://youtu.be/-g93eeu7MEA). After this, Reki makes adjustments to Langa’s board by replacing the straps with toe clips and the pivots with swivels. We also see how Miya is ostracized by his peers who are jealous of him (if you hate him, get better than him). The day of the race finally comes where the wager is Reki becoming Miya’s lapdog or Miya becoming Langa’s pet (Baron: Oh hey my fanfic is coming to life. *Nitsuj stares at Baron in disbelief* (Baron): It’s for a yaoi contest! Damn. There’re huge profits to be made here!). The race begins (and Langa didn’t need anyone to push him this time. Progress) where we see this race is all about the tricks and the emotional turmoil of Miya. Being a prodigy is never easy. Everybody puts all these expectations on you and ostracizes you from the rest of the world leaving you lonely and misjudged by your peers. For Miya, he has to win this race otherwise what was the point of all his loneliness and suffering? Once they enter the final leg of the race (yeah, I’m starting to think we need more venues) Miya is in the lead and Langa can’t use the same route he used last time due to speed (and you never perform the same trick twice you go to the next trick). However, Langa gets tricky and grinds on the rails where he does one cool transition from one side of the rail to another (this was the scene that got me interested in the anime) and manages to win the race by the skin of his teeth (scene here: https://youtu.be/-b-HQyXXAuU). Reki and Langa extend the hand of friendship to the lonely Miya when all of sudden a new character shows up (I’m sorry, I think you’re in the wrong anime, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is that way). This is Adam the legendary skater and founder of S voiced by David Wald (Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy). After insulting Miya and shifting his focus to Langa to make sexual advances (yeah you’re definitely in the wrong anime), Reki challenges him for insulting Miya (his big brother instincts are kicking in. Scene here: https://youtu.be/TOxV8v0gRj8).

At the start of episode 4 Adam accepts Reki’s challenge on the condition he gets to race against Langa once he wins (because if it wasn’t clear by now Adam is thirsty for some Canadian water). Throughout the rest of the episode we see Reki train for the race with the help of Langa, Miya and Shadow (scenes here: https://youtu.be/GkbbLaiqqck and https://youtu.be/cCA5We9ljF8) despite Joe telling him to bail out as Adam is dangerous (in the racing or stranger danger aspect?). We also learn a few things such as how he, Joe, and Cherry founded S and used to be best buds until Adam went crazy on them (like *insert obvious musician here*). He was also the one who scouted Miya and invited him to S. During the daytime he works as a young and popular politician who is controlled by his 3 aunts which is why S means so much to him. S is the only place where he can truly be free. He doesn’t have to care what anyone thinks of him or worry about pleasing his 3 aunts. He can cut loose and go wild (sort of like going on the internet after a long and stressful day. It’s okay to go wild but be careful not to go too wild on it). The day of the race finally comes where everyone is excited to see Adam race. Even Cherry and Joe make an appearance wanting a piece of Adam as well (not in that way. Oh screw it, I don’t care anymore). The race begins where Adam gives Reki a head start (by God he is such a Jojo character. I keep expecting him to scream za warudo or king crimson any second). After a good smoke, Adam takes off where he quickly catches up to Reki and toys with him a little bit which almost breaks Reki, but he pulls himself back together and takes the lead (even performing Miya’s trick perfectly. Slime has leveled up). Adam has enough and performs the same trick (only better) to get a head of Reki only to turn around and perform his signature move, Love Hug (and we know the name of his stand, https://youtu.be/sq_Fm7qfRQk). A move where he skates uphill toward his opponents causing them to panic at how absurd the move is. Reki walks into the trap and begins to panic which causes him to fall hard and lose the race (https://youtu.be/hSothCbXIKA).

Episodes 5-8

In the opening moments of episode 5 we see Reki got rushed to the hospital where the only injury he got was a broken arm (talk about lucky. I’m no medical expert but that fall should have seriously given him a concussion or worse. Scene here: https://youtu.be/rfYQrYAX7l0). So now it’s Langa’s turn to race against Adam (who no doubt is getting hard at the thought of it) and Reki tries to talk him out of it but he says no (stop being the Adrianne to his Rocky, Reki). Reki goes to Cherry for help on Adam. . .in freakin’ daylight and in public (you know for a guy who says S is secret you sure love to talk about it like a dumbass in public. Scene here: https://youtu.be/KsuI6kurzO0). Cherry agrees to help Langa and even teaches him the secret to Adam’s Love Hug (scene here: https://youtu.be/HfgisvYHx2c). However, even though the secret of Love Hug has been discovered that doesn’t change the fact that the body will react and panic when Adam performs the move (Mira: It’s reflex. Just like when you close your eyes during a sneeze. Your mind wants to keep your eyes open, but your body closes them on reflex. Scene here: https://youtu.be/jeVwSFk8Efc). The night before the race, Reki tries once again to get Langa to drop out of the race as he doesn’t want to see his friend get hurt just like his other friend in the past, but Langa promises him he’ll be fine. The race finally comes where Langa and Adam begin slow. Adam takes the lead only for Langa to make his move and. . .this happens (scene here: https://youtu.be/tdB6wzHJ3PU, *chuckles* what am I watching? Seriously, you can just tell David Wald is having the time of his life. How do you go from voicing someone as crazy as Tsurumi and have him look normal when compared to Adam?). After their dance they come to another turn where Adam unleashes the Love Hug shocking everyone. However, Langa has a surprise of his own as he dodges the Love Hug with his own move and takes the lead (scene here: https://youtu.be/Q2_CWYj1DSo, love denied). This only excites Adam even more and he enters what I can only assume to be the Zone (the legacy of Kuroko’s Basketball lives on) and he catches up to Langa to take the lead. As the two go head to head the race gets stopped with the arrival of the police (it’s 5-0! Who snitched on us!?). Everybody runs away with Reki and Langa losing the cops and he makes Langa promise not to race against Adam again.

So in episode 6 we find out that the person who ratted on S was Kiriko, a woman who works as a detective for the police and was curious why S’s location was taken off the patrol route (how dare she do her job). We shift our focus on Langa, Reki, and the others. In order to heal Reki’s arm quicker they all journey to Miyako Island to soak in their hotsprings (scene here: https://youtu.be/IOnAB2FNf4Q). During their trip we see Reki confide in Joe about how he feels jealous of Langa and his rapid improvement (and to be fair you kinda get where he’s coming from. Reki has been skating longer than Langa and yet in only a short while he’s quickly surpassed him. While granted Langa has been snowboarding his whole life and that knowledge does help him quite well in his transition into skateboarding, from Reki’s perspective it’s frustrating to see an amateur come in and perform the tricks that took him years to master in such a short time. In the end, he’s not mad at Langa but rather himself and he feels bad for being jealous of his best friend). After eating, they all hear about a secluded hotsprings 5km in the mountains and decide to have a race to see who can find it first despite hearing stories about the place being haunted. They all take off leaving Reki behind, but Langa turns back to get him. As they travel up the mountain they come across Shadow and Miya who were attacked by some evil spirits. Reki and Langa get chased by an evil spirit and caught where they get bombarded with mud (scene here: https://youtu.be/zeLHCDEgFGQ). Cherry and Joe also meet the same fate. As they leave wondering what it was that attacked them, we see that it was all a part of a yearly festival called the Paantu festival (which is a real festival on the island).

In episode 7 we see Reki continue to become jealous of Langa and all the attention he’s getting (scene here: https://youtu.be/jHGCpOI-l60, again you get where Reki is coming from. He doesn’t hate Langa but rather himself for falling behind. He wants to keep skating with Langa but how can he do that if he can’t keep up with him?). Reki begins to avoid Langa and Adam announces a tournament to decide once and for all who the best skater is. Langa tells Reki about the tournament and how he plans to enter which sets Reki off. All the frustrations and jealousy that he’s been holding in pour over and he ends his friendship with Langa giving us the saddest moment in the anime (scene here: https://youtu.be/zxlxsME6_lM).

In the first half of episode 8 we get the qualifying rounds for the tournament. We have group races where the top 2 winners of each race will advance to the next round. Adam and Miya have their race where Adam tells Miya a little bit about his past such as how he was beaten by his aunts with a ruler out of love (scene her: https://youtu.be/1yZBmASvwIc, well that’s disturbing. Seriously, even Miya the middle school kid is disturbed by Adam’s childhood). Cherry, Joe, Shadow, and Langa advance as well along with a mysterious racer named Snake who is really Tadashi, Adam’s secretary who taught him how to skate (congratulations you created a Jojo monster). He’s entered the tournament under Adam’s nose and wants Adam to quit skating should he win. In the second half, Reki continues to ignore Langa and both of them receive advice from their families on their struggles (scenes here: https://youtu.be/Q3oP1aTY4Sg and https://youtu.be/SJjreROE93s). The next night under the advice of Joe, Reki shows up undercover avoiding Langa. Adam makes his appearance (giving us the line that cements why the dub is better than the sub. Scene here: https://youtu.be/q0ERXJ0Zsr0). In the first race it’s Shadow against Harry (who the hell is Harry?). Shadow wins to advance and we end with the next race which is Langa vs Joe (scene here: https://youtu.be/9vSRGOM9pWk).

Episodes 9-12

We start episode 9 where we left off as the race between Langa and Joe continues. Joe takes the lead with Langa not really in the game. His mind is still on Reki and he can’t concentrate. Just when it seems like Langa is going to lose, Reki reveals himself and cheers for Langa which gets his head out of the clouds, and he catches up to Joe catching some major air in the process. Once they enter the final leg of the race it seems like Joe is going to win, but Langa pulls off the upset launching off a steel beam to gain momentum and win (scene here: https://youtu.be/bo09xmpbQBM). Unfortunately, Langa broke his skateboard in the race and Joe tells him to go and find Reki but he’s already gone as he realizes that he doesn’t want to watch from the sidelines supporting Langa he wants to be out there skating with him. The next race is Cherry against Adam (the former friends turned bitter rivals). The race begins where the two are dead even with each other (and I just have to say out of all the boards Cherry’s board is my favorite. Unlike the others his board is a cyber board that has different modes and a fully functioned AI. It’s like an Ironman suit except in skateboard mode). Adam tries to use the Love Hug (za Lovo Huggo) but Cherry manages to dodge it and take the lead. As they close in on the final leg of the race Adam has enough and decks Cherry with his board to knock him out (oh my God that’s a concussion. Scene here: https://youtu.be/dxi1CC3ghbI). With Cherry unconscious he automatically loses (and Adam should be disqualified for giving a man a concussion. Seriously, what the actual hell, Adam?) and the others rush him to the hospital to get treated (if anybody asks, you fell down the stairs. Or crashed headfirst into Joe’s abs). After the credits we see Cherry snuck out of the hospital (how the staff missed him I have no idea) and goes to see Joe (scene here: https://youtu.be/MW_rAkTkY7I).

In episode 10 Cherry gets rushed to the hospital by Joe and Shadow. Meanwhile, Miya and Tadashi have their race where Miya gets destroyed (who’s the slime now?). During the race, we see how Tadashi blames himself for Adam’s behavior (it is kind of your fault) and now wants to take responsibility for it by making sure Adam doesn’t skate again (scene here: https://youtu.be/Zg1k7dDG_DM). The next day Reki takes time off from school and work to avoid Langa where he gets jumped by his old skating group. Shadow also gets jumped by that skater from the first episode. Turns out his girl left him and he blames Shadow for it (blame Reki for it). Shadow gets rushed to the hospital where it seems like he won’t be able to make the race with Adam who sends Tadashi to confirm Shadow’s injuries (scene here: https://youtu.be/OdGOUh7JYRQ). Reki gets found by the manager at his job who comforts and tells him that S isn’t the only place where he can prove he’s a talented skater and also tells him about Shadow (scene here: https://youtu.be/nnA7QnXpxko). Reki rushes to the hospital only to bail when he sees Langa. Miya tries to stop him but has no luck (scene here: https://youtu.be/2T8OWwih5iw). Langa caught a glimpse of Reki and decides to wait for him at his house. Meanwhile, Reki wakes up at a love hotel (holy shit, did we enter a new anime?) and gets greeted by Tadashi. When Reki ran out of the hospital Tadashi accidentally hit him at 13mph and tries to pay off Reki but he refuses to accept money (scene here: https://youtu.be/RecwOm5YyR4). Tadashi then tells Reki that he should stop skating saying that nothing good will come from it and Reki tells him the joy he gets from skating (it’s not about being good or bad. It’s about doing what you love). This helps Reki realize what’s important to him and he heads home where he just missed Langa. He rushes after him (a simple text or call would suffice) where they meet up in the skate park and the two make up with each other (scenes here: https://youtu.be/5KSq2PCuyjo, https://youtu.be/NCmaUGe3kWI, and https://youtu.be/bujU-d2pQAQ. Haven’t been this happy for a reunion since the Golden Lovers in NJPW). Little do the two know that they’re being spied on by Adam who has decided Shadow’s replacement.

In episode 11 the band is back together and Reki receives his invite from Adam where he accepts. Reki then takes a look at Langa’s broken board where he says it’s dead. They decide to salvage what they can to create a new board (scene here: https://youtu.be/DaENrbmQEPw). That night, we get the race between Adam and Reki where everybody doesn’t expect much and gets bored rather quickly. Adam brutally attacks Reki but Reki refuses to throw in the towel (scene here: https://youtu.be/NFefSzVwJyw). Reki jumps off a cliff to take the lead and then it starts to rain where Reki finally gets a chance to show off as he had wheels that make him go faster in the rain and even embarrasses Adam (scene here: https://youtu.be/nrndm35ZL9Y). Adam of course gets back up (I think his rage broke) and catches up to Reki where one of his wheels unfortunately gives out and this winds up costing him the race as Adam wins (scene here: https://youtu.be/Ath1VRjYJ0s). Despite losing Reki receives all of the attention and helps Tadashi realize his mistake with Adam. Tadashi forfeits which means Langa moves on to the finals with Adam (and just in time for the last episode).

In the final episode Reki gets done finishing up Langa’s new board (scene here: https://youtu.be/62Tr5r7w31Q). They go to S where they find out that the course has been changed (thank God!) to a more dangerous course (I still consider this a win). This was the original course for S back in the day but it was deemed too dangerous, so it was abandoned. However, thanks to the storm sealing off the entrance to the factory they had no choice but to use this course (a fitting finale). Langa goes to the starting line where Adam is there waiting for him (and he’s gone all goth on us). The race begins where Adam takes the lead but Langa is close behind him. They both enter the Zone which to Adam is his paradise (his escape from the cruel world where he doesn’t have to listen to anyone or anything. He’s free to do whatever he wants and forget everything). Langa gets lost in the Zone and falls off a cliff, but he snaps out of it and recovers to catch back up to Adam and remind him how fun skating can be. The two continue to race where ultimately Langa wins (scene here: https://youtu.be/GExlm2mwEro). Afterwards, the group has a party celebrating Langa’s victory (scene here: https://youtu.be/wUohz8M7vDw), Adam avoids getting arrested by exposing his accomplice and we end with Reki and Langa racing against each other.

Final Thoughts

And that was Sk8 the Infinity. It’s such a fun watch. This is one of those animes that always puts a smile on your face whenever you watch it. There’s nothing deep, life-changing, or spectacular in it, it’s just an anime that was incredibly fun to watch. I like the concept. I wasn’t the biggest fan of skating growing up but even I have to admit I can feel the passion and love they have for the sport and understand it. This is no different than when I watched Initial D or Kuroko’s Basketball. The characters are a lot of fun and work off each other very well. I enjoyed the friendship between Langa and Reki, Miya the talented kid trying to act like a cool adult and develop a brotherly relationship with Reki, Shadow the adult of the group, and the bickering friendship between Joe and Cherry was a lot of fun and honestly they became my favorite characters because of it. I thought Adam played a good antagonist to the series as he is so over the top. It’s like everything that is so ridiculous about this anime is converged into this one character who is taking himself way too seriously, but at the same time we see a fragile person behind the mask. Adam isn’t a villain but instead a tragic character who was never given the freedom to do what he wanted to do and when he finally found what he loved and made him happy it was taken away from him. Resulting in this mindset that the world is cruel and the only way he can escape it is through skateboarding but it winds up being pointless as he has no one there to share it with him.

The animation for the most part is very good. It’s nothing special but the colors are great. I do like the designs of the skateboards and how everyone has their own style of skating and board. All the designs of the boards were created by real board artists so these designs can be done in real life. The music is also great. You would think they would stick with hip-hop and rock music but surprisingly they actually managed to work in some classical music as well and it works. I was shocked by this. Classical music and skateboarding actually go together. This is like Samurai Champloo all over again. In terms of sub or dub I think both versions are good but I recommend checking out the dub, I think that was the better version. While the sub has better lines, the dub has funnier lines and you can tell the VAs were having fun dubbing it. The VAs for Cherry and Joe shipped the two so they made a lot of their dialogue come across as an old married couple whenever the two interacted with each other. Now while the anime is good there are few things that did bother me. First up was Reki’s depression lasting way too long. If it was an episode or two I’d be okay with it but this lasted for like three episodes, that’s way too long. Also, I wish they had more courses to race on. They use the same course all anime and it gets kind of boring going down the same one over and over. I will give them credit and say they found new and creative ways to show off the course each race and present a different ending using the environment to their advantage. While we get a new course for the final race, couldn’t we have gotten new ones earlier that test out the different abilities of the skaters? Another nitpick is I wanted to see more of the other skaters. Like I said, I did like Cherry’s board and wanted to see more or it. I also like Miya’s style of skating and all the tricks he performed.

Final Score

The final score for Sk8 the Infinity is a 7/10. A very fun anime that’s worth checking out if you like skateboarding or just looking for a fun anime to watch. I don’t know if there’s going to be a second season, but I would love to see more of this world as well as the anime. Maybe they get invited to go to a different city and participate in their version of S or something. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time on Project Nitsuj.
