The weather outside may be in the 30s and 40s, but the calendar says April is around the corner which means it’s time to look at the spring anime line-up on First Impressions. Let’s face it, the winter season was cursed. With Covid cases breaking out in Japan, a number of animes were delayed. Some are still delayed even as we speak which is a shame because all those animes lost their momentum. Luckily, big name animes such as Vinland Saga and My Hero Academia were able to continue without delay. Let’s see what we’re getting in the spring. This is the Spring Anime 2023 First Impressions.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato-hen
So we kick things off on a high note with the return of Demon Slayer. This time they’ll be adapting the Swordsmith Village arc. A lot of excitement around this season. Definitely watching it.
Dr. STONE: NEW WORLD
Next up is another anime people are excited for, Dr. Stone S3. Watching it.
Hell’s Paradise
MAPPA seems to be making it their year. Along with Vinland Saga continuing into the spring, they’re also giving us Hell’s Paradise. As the Edo period nears its end, a shinobi on death row gets a chance to earn his freedom by finding the Elixir of Life on an island. Once he arrives on the island he’s met with other death row convicts, strange creatures, bizarre statues, and hermits who rule the island. Watching it.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo!
A prequel to Konosuba which will focus on everyone’s favorite character Megumin. Watching it.
Oshi no Ko
A doctor who delivers a pregnant idol’s child gets killed by a stalker and then reborn as the idol’s child. Can he help his mom climb the charts? Watch to find out. I might watch it.
Tonikaku Kawaii 2nd Season
Second season of a married couple. Not interested.
MASHLE
Oh hell yeah! I’ve been waiting for this, this is one of Shonen Jump’s underrated stories. In a world where everyone can use magic, Mash is the only who can’t use it. One day, people randomly start trying to kill him and he winds up in magic school where his goal is to be the best without relying on magic. Watching it.
Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia
A boy and girl who suffer from insomnia create their own secret club to find comfort. Not watching.
Sekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni 2
Noo~. Yep, it’s back. Smartphone isekai. I guess when Fruit of Evolution can get a second season, everything is fair game. I don’t know about this one. A part of me wants to review it so I can rip into it, but another part me says I don’t have time for this shit.
Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru
A comedy romance about a girl who recently got dumped meets a guy in her favorite game and starts to fall for him. Only problem is he’s interested in the game and nothing else. I might watch this.
Mahoutsukai no Yome SEASON 2
Finally! After years of waiting the second season will air this spring. Watching it.
Ousama Ranking: Yuuki no Takarabako
Second season. Not interested.
Isekai de Cheat Skill wo Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai wo mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei wo Kaeta
A boy who can travel between worlds. I might watch it.
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear Punch!
Second season. Not watching.
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu
A boy who’s into macabre starts hanging out with a popular girl. Not watching.
EDENS ZERO 2nd Season
Second season of Fairy Tail in space. Not watching.
Kanojo ga Koushaku-tei ni Itta Riyuu
A girl gets reincarnated as a minor character in a novel and now has to avoid death. Not interested.
Otonari ni Ginga
A manga artist who takes care of his younger siblings hires a beautiful woman to act as his assistant and she announces their engagement. Not interested.
My Home Hero
Well this anime sounds dark. In order to protect his daughter, a man kills her boyfriend who just happened to be in the syndicate. Might watch it.
Tengoku Daimakyou
A story about venturing out into a dangerous world. Might watch it.
Skip to Loafer
Country girl goes to school in the city. Not watching.
Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch from Mercury S2
Second season. Not watching.
Isekai Shoukan wa Nidome desu
Following in the footsteps of Isekai Ojisan. A boy who was summoned to another world gets resummoned to our world as a baby and gets a second chance at normal life. I might watch it.
Yuusha ga Shinda!
A farmer accidentally kills the hero. While the necromancer can’t revive him, she can transfer the farmer’s soul into the hero’s rotting body and use it to reseal the demon gate. I might watch it.
Yuri is My Job
A girl works at a café where the maids act like girls at an all-girl school. Not watching.
Dead Mount Death Play
An evil god gets reincarnated in the body of a boy. Might watch it.
Megami no Café Terrace
A boy inherits his grandma’s seaside café with five beautiful girls. Not watching.
My One-Hit Kill Sister
Same as the mom isekai anime except this time it’s the sister who’s OP. Not watching.
Ao no Orchestra
Boy plays violin. Not watching.
The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure: Servings Gods Who Go Too Far
Boy gets reincarnated in another world where the gods bless him with great stats which makes his life complicated. I might watch.
Niehime to Kemono no Ou
A beast makes a human girl his consort. I might watch.
BIRDIE WING: Golf Girls’ Story Season 2
Second season of girls golfing. Not interested.
Pocket Monsters (2023)
The start of a new Pokémon series without Ash. This is going to feel weird.
Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers
In the future otaku culture has been outlawed by a mysterious organization. A group of heroes fights against this organization. I might watch it.
My Clueless First Friend
A wholesome story about a boy befriending a girl. Not interested.
What God Does in a World Without Gods
Yukito’s parents are the leaders of a cult. After he gets sacrificed, he gets reincarnated into another world where religion doesn’t exist and porn books are akin to a child’s doodles. He finds that it’s also a world where your life and death is decided by the country. While obstructing his friend’s execution, both of them lose their lives. Just at that moment, the god of his religion comes to their world and revives them. This is going to be a strange anime. I’m watching it.
Edomae Elf
An otaku elf lives in a shrine. Not interested.
THE MARGINAL SERVICE
An original anime with no information as of yet. I’ll check it out.
Kawaisugi Crisis
An alien sent to destroy our world becomes attached to a cat. Not watching.
Tokyo Mew Mew New~♡ 2nd Season
Second season of the new Tokyo Mew Mew. Kind of skipped over the first season so I won’t watch this.
Kizuna no Allele
A story about girls wanting to become virtual idols. Not watching.
Rokudou no Onna-tachi
A boy uses an ancient family heirloom scroll to make the baddest girl in school fall for him. Watching this.
After this we have a bunch of other animes that don’t have a description of their premise but here are the titles: THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: U149, World Dai Star, Alice Gear Aegis Expansion, Opus.COLORs, MIX: MEISEI STORY 2ND SEASON – Nidome no Natsu, Sora no Mukou e, and Tousouchuu: Great Mission.
Final Thoughts
Spring lineup doesn’t look all that impressive to me. Aside from a few major animes this season doesn’t really jave a lot of animes I’m interested in watching.
