(Yin-Yang): Hello! Welcome to Project Nitsuj and welcome to the second part of my birthday bash review. Today we’re continuing are talk of Inukami and wrapping it up with style. (Nitsuj): Let’s get this party started and continue looking at Inukami.
Episodes 14-18
(Nitsuj): In episode 14 we find out that because Keita defeated the Shinigami he’s been plagued with misfortune. His apartment is destroyed, his bank account disappeared, and nobody wants to get involved with him because they’re afraid they’ll get misfortune too (misfortune isn’t a disease but it sure spreads like one. As does stupidity). With nowhere to go Keita and Yoko decide to setup camp near a riverbank (I’m sure this is against the law but going to jail hasn’t hurt Keita in the past so go for it) where they befriend a kappa. While this is going on we find out that Yoko’s dad Dai Yoko a dangerous demon fox from long ago is returning. Years ago Keita’s family and Yoko sealed Dai Yoko in a rock (Yin-Yang: It was a big rock) and now that seal is breaking and they want Yoko to reseal her father (sure reseal the man who raised you and tried to destroy the world for you). She agrees to do it but before leaving she decides to tell Keita the truth about her. The truth being she’s not an inukami but instead a fox (you lied to me? *Looks at Yin-Yang * And what are you a squirrel? (Yin-Yang): -_- Have you been hitting the cactus juice or are you just crazy?). Keita tells her he doesn’t care in fact it’s hinted that he knew long ago that Yoko wasn’t an inukami and wasn’t gonna talk about it unless Yoko talked about it first (that was pretty thoughtful and respectful of him), to him it doesn’t matter if Yoko is an inukami or a fox in the end he formed a contract with Yoko and that’s all that matters. Happy about this Yoko goes to the rock and reseals her father. After the resealing is complete she returns back to Keita saying she loves him (yes but he somewhat doesn’t deserve you).
In episode 15 a tanuki that Keita saved in the past has returned to repay his debt (is he gonna give Keita a tanuki suit?). He gives Keita these magic (untested) pills that when swallowed will make anybody who Keita makes eye contact with fall in love with him. He swallows one in front of Yoko (Yin-Yang: Kind of stupid considering that she already likes him) and she instantly falls for him acting all motherly, caring, and newlywed like. At first Keita seems okay with this but once he remembers that Yoko is an animal and their children will be puppies he panics and runs out on her (okay there are 3 problems with his line of thinking. First off, the kids would be foxes not dogs. It’s been established that Yoko is a fox. Continuity please. Second, do genes mean anything to you? Chances are you can have human children and even if your children were fox children they can shapeshift into human form so it’s all good. In fact the most likely outcome is that they’ll be half fox half human. Third, who cares if Yoko is an animal girl, she is girlfriend material buddy and it’s obvious you like her so stop fooling yourself and just sleep with her already you know you wanna do it). After leaving Yoko, Keita goes into the city trying to get girls to fall for him but each time he takes the pill he winds up looking at the wrong person each time. Yoko eventually catches up to him and corners him but Keita refuses to submit to her so he gobbles up all of the pills which makes everyone in the city want him (both men, women, and children). Rather than run away from the stampede heading his way Keita faces it like a man and gets trampled by them all.
(Yin-Yang): It’s summertime in episode 16 and Kaoru’s pack is vacationing at his villa near the ocean to get away from the summer heat (and to provide us with our obligatory beach episode). He invites Keita and Yoko to the villa for some fun as well and while there Tayune gets into a fight with the others because they made fun of her being scared of ghost stories. After Tayune insults some of them including Yoko, they all plot revenge against her by staging an event to scare the living the daylights out of her in the woods (walk of bravery test). As Tayune is making her way through the woods Yoko and the others prepare a mannequin to scare her but it gets possessed by a weak spirit who decides to scare Tayune for them (really man? You had nothing better to do so you decided to scare an inukami). Once Tayune sees the walking mannequin (which I would find hilarious) she gets scared and starts going berserk in the forest running away from the thing. As she makes her way back to the villa about to destroy it in her fear Keita shows up to destroy the mannequin and save Tayune. Once Tayune is safe Keita tells her it’s alright to be afraid and that Kaoru will accept her no matter what and instead of hiding your fears you should be honest with them. Yoko and others show up and apologize as does Tayune for her harsh words and they all make up. While all of that was going on a few of the other inukami find a secret passage way in a cabin (why would you build a secret passage way in a cabin?) where they find a body incased in ice (Nitsuj: Walt Disney!? So that’s where you’ve been hiding all this time.). They decide to keep what they saw a secret until they get a better understanding of what’s going on.
In episode 17 Kaoru and Shiro have gone missing and Nadeshiko and Tomohane have gone to Keita for help (when there’s trouble call this pervert). They figure out that Kaoru and Shiro were investigating a magical painting that was created by Sekidosai long ago and have somehow been sucked into the painting (geez I said I wanted to get art not get inside it). Keita, Yoko, and Nadeshiko get inside the painting where they see that Sekidosai is still alive and has been living inside the painting all these years (Nitsuj: Man he missed a lot. Like the great brony wars of Youtube) building up his magic powers using Daisakkai a device that he created that will grant him one wish but it requires a lot of magical energy (this sounds like the Majin Buu arc from Dragonball Z) which is why he dragged Kaoru, Keita, and the others into his world to steal their magic and power up Daisakkai. As Keita, Yoko, and Nadeshiko explore Sekidosai’s world they see that it’s filled with macho men in speedos who are gay (Nitsuj: Okay is this how the author views gay people? This is even more ridiculous than the over the top gay people we show in sitcoms today just to get a cheap laugh out of people). After going through many gay events (Nitsuj: And running into crap you wouldn’t see even in a gay bar), they manage to reunite with Kaoru and Shiro as well as damage the Daisakkai. When they finally all meet up Sekidosai appears before them with his robot Xanthippe who has a huge drill for a penis (//youtu.be/nbsWQqnWS_s) and that his revival is at hand where he will return to the world and remake it into a place where men can be true to their darkest desires (Nitsuj: Oh please we already do that. (Yin-Yang): Correction you do it. We sit back and watch you) and we end the episode with him flashing his junk in front of them with Keita calling him a pervert (said the pot to the pan).
(Nitsuj): Episode 18 picks up where episode 17 left off with the group taking on Sekidosai and Xanthippe where Keita gets a face full of dick (scene here: //youtu.be/yyUDPW3NFtk, ugh nasty! Oh man I feel so dirty! I need take a bath). Sekidosai catches Keita, Kaoru, Yoko, and Nadeshiko and absorbs their magic to power up Daisakkai but their powers overload the machine and force it to shut down, but it absorbs enough magic to send Sekidosai back into our world (Yin-Yang: Oh no we already have enough perverts in the world we don’t need anymore. We got are pervert quota filled so back in the painting you go). The others follow after him and they unite with the rest of Kaoru’s pack to fight Sekidosai in the city where he unleashes a giant Xanthippe on the city (could the robot get anymore folic?). The folic-bot proves too much for them so they get help from the most unlikeliest of allies the Citizens of Darkness (wow, freaks do come out at night). With the help of the Citizens of Darkness the battle turns in their favor with Keita finding Xanthippe’s weakness and destroying his drill (that’s right folks he literally shot a robot in the dick, //youtu.be/qBCDY5XhZng?t=16s). After that Xanthippe destroys himself and the city is safe (thanks to the perverts of darkness). We end the episode on a shocking note by finding out that Kaoru and Nadeshiko are working with Sekidosai (traitors).
Episodes 19-22
In episode 19 members of Kaoru’s pack are unhappy with their number order and demand a new number higher in the pack (convince me. You guys have done nothing to deserve a higher number in the pack). Rather than handle the problem himself he tells them to have Keita decide for them (will you stop being lazy and take control of your pack). When they go to Keita we see that he and Yoko are in possession of a giant pot possessed by a spirit who grants any wish they want (and the catch?). However, the pot is very uncooperative so when they say something it does the opposite of what they say (just like a politician). The whole concept is pretty much making fun of the Japanese language on how one word can have two or more meanings. Take for example hana, it can mean flower but if you pronounce it a certain way it can also mean nose, this is one of the factors that make the Japanese language so hard to translate into English. They get nowhere with Keita (obviously) so they decide to fight it out (wait! If you’re gonna fight do it right. Bring in the mud pit. (Yin-Yang): Rejected *hits Nitsuj with a paper fan upside the head*) but before they can fight Sendan and Nadeshiko tell them to stop and just be happy with where they’re at and everyone decides to drop the subject all together.
In episode 20 Furano and Tenso see Gokyoya admiring a picture of Keita and get the idea in their mind that Gokyoya has a crush on him. Since Gokyoya has helped Furano and Tenso so much they set up a date between her and Keita much to Yoko’s displeasure (I’m also a little bit confused into why Keita is also pursuing Kaoru’s inukami when he’s made it so clear in the past that he prefers human girls over inukami). The two go on a date in the shopping district followed by Yoko, Furano, and Tenso shadowing them where we find out that the picture Gokyoya was admiring was a picture of Keita’s dad when he was younger (man the family resemblance is amazing). It turns out that before Gokyoya became Kaoru’s inukami she was actually the inukami of Keita’s dad where she developed a bit of a crush on him (wow, Keita could have been half human and half inukami that would have been interesting). However, Keita’s mom saw this and told Keita’s dad to break his ties with her or there would be problems in their relationship (in other words get rid of the dog or no more sex). While that’s going on we meet Boss’ master a mysterious man (Yin-Yang: Who looks like an extra from Ruroni Kenshin) who has developed a panty stealing technique that is so fast and flawless (//youtu.be/FfvTXACPv30?t=4s) that it completely catches girls off guard (this was the highlight of the episode).
(Yin-Yang): Not much happens in episode 21. The seal on Dai Yoko is weakening again (nice work Yoko) so Kayano decides that the time has come to combine the power of her clan with the power of the inukami to seal Dai Yoko away for good (why didn’t we do this in the first place?). The problem is Keita and Yoko have gone out on a job and nobody knows where they are so Kaoru sends Tomohane out to find them. That’s pretty much the whole episode right there. Tomohane searches the city for Keita and we cut back to a few of the characters in the show to see how much they respect, admire, and trust Keita. At the end when Tomohane is about to be attacked by evil spirits Keita and Yoko save her where Keita is wearing a maid outfit with cat ears and a tail (Nitsuj: You know on a woman this would be very hot). We find out that Keita was on a job helping out the cat god and as a reward he granted Keita any wish he wanted but because he didn’t ask it in cat language it resulted in him getting put in a maid outfit that he can’t take off.
Again not much happens in episode 22. We do however find out that when Dai Yoko was sealed away in the mountains the inukamis kept Yoko contained in the mountains for safe keeping. She escaped captivity but not before sustaining injuries where she got saved by a child version of Keita who healed, feed, and played with her making him the first person to treat her nicely and make her smile for the first time in her life (you’re a good man Keita. You’re a little bit perverted but you’re a good man). When the time comes to seal Dai Yoko again Kaoru’s body can’t handle the stress of everyone’s spirit energy and collapses causing a breakdown in the sealing and allowing Dai Yoko to return (Nitsuj: Who looks quite well for a guy who’s been living under a rock for God knows how many years. (Yin-Yang): He’s a DILF). Right away we see that the guy is very loving of Yoko (Nitsuj: Too loving if you ask me) so loving that when he hears about Keita being Yoko’s tamer he’s ready to drop a mountain on him (the sins for touching a man’s daughter are high). Keita says he’s done nothing to her (Nitsuj: Even though you’ve had plenty of opportunities to do it you coward) but Yoko tells her dad that they’ve done a number of times and that she’s pregnant with Keita’s baby (//youtu.be/Plz-bhcHryc?t=3s). Rather than kill Keita where he stands he instead turns back time taking Keita out of that ridiculous outfit and decides to stay peaceful for Yoko’s health but before he can do that Sekidosai shows up and Dai Yoko springs into action to fight his longtime rival.
Episodes 23-26
(Nitsuj): In episode 23 Sekidosai and Dai Yoko arrive in the city and begin fighting (oh come on! Couldn’t you guys follow the Dragonball Z logic of fighting and just find some abandon plains or mountain region and fight there) where people get caught in the crossfire and evil spirits begin to attack the city because of their fight. Kaoru orders his pack to protect and evacuate the citizens while he and Nadeshiko go to secretly protect Sekidosai. As they make their way to Sekidosai they run into Keita and Yoko who want to know what they’re doing (Yin-Yang: They’re betraying you for some pointless reason). Nadeshiko makes the lie that they know of a sealing technique that will seal Sekidosai away and tricks Keita and Yoko into going with her while Kaoru continues to make his way to Sekidosai but Yoko sees through the lie (in Nadeshiko’s defense it wasn’t a convincing lie to begin with in the first place) and she begins to fight Nadeshiko while Keita goes to confront Kaoru which results in another fight between the cousins where Keita is pissed at Kaoru not because he’s betraying him or because he lied to him but because he betrayed the trust of his inukami and is just using them as tools. Now this scene really does speak volume into Keita’s character. It shows us that he’ll laugh off any lie that comes his way but the one thing he won’t accept is mistreatment of inukami showing us how much respect, admiration, and care he has for inukami and how much he cares about Kaoru’s pack. I daresay Keita cares more about Kaoru’s pack than Kaoru himself. Anyway, Keita gets the better of the fight but he doesn’t take Kaoru down but instead wants Kaoru to look his inukamis in the eyes and tell them the truth (yeah, look them in the eye and tell them that I’m a lousy master). But that’ll have to wait as Sekidosai has trapped Dai Yoko in a statue which allows him to absorb all of Dai Yoko’s powers and reach 100% power (he has the power~). He captures Keita and reverts him back to an infant where Kaoru saves him from disappearing and we end with Sekidosai retreating and Kaoru about to tell the others the truth (for it shall set you free).
Episode 24 starts with Kaoru telling everyone that he’s not the real Kaoru or rather the body he’s in isn’t his real body. He explains that at a young age he was raised by a mage named Jasei (so what your parents were too lazy to raise you so they left you in the care of some freaky looking mage? I’m not kidding; look at this guy, he’s freaky as hell: //vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/anime-characters-fight/images/0/06/Jasei1.png/revision/latest?cb=20140517064039&path-prefix=ru) who taught him everything about life, magic, and even taught Kaoru how to play the piano (Yin-Yang: That was nice of him). Yeah the freaky mage seemed like a legitimately nice guy but in truth he was actually an evil mage who fed off the misery and despair of others (and it’s how he does it that makes it the most fucked up thing about him). Jasei would go to towns, find people and make them experience happiness and love and when their happiness reached their peak he would steal it all away from that person and make them experience the worst pain imaginable. An example of this, he made a hunter who hated everyone turn his ways around, made him the town’s hero, made him get marry and have a child only to have his child get killed by a bear, and make the hunter accidently shoot his wife and kill her. He did all of this to make the hunter experience the worst misery imaginable, that is messed up. He also did the same thing to Kaoru, he put Kaoru in a fake body as a child so that he could feed off Kaoru’s misery (you did this a child man? You’re fucked up) but Kaoru refused to let misery get the better of him so Jasei retreated saying that one day he would return to feast on Kaoru’s despair (Yin-Yang: How perverse and sick do you have to be in order to become like Jasei?). Kaoru goes on to explain that the body in the block of ice is his real body and if he doesn’t get to it soon his life will end the only problem is he doesn’t know how to return to his body. That’s why he teamed up with Sekidosai, he and Sekidosai made a deal that if Kaoru helped revived him he would use the powers of Daisakkai to return Kaoru to his original body. Nadeshiko stumbled upon Kaoru’s secret one day and kept it a secret from the others under Kaoru’s orders but now that he’s told everyone the truth he can no longer return to his body, this was Jasei’s final curse on Kaoru (Jasei: I enjoy causing people misery and despair. It turns me on). Keita and Yoko here this story from Shiro by the riverbank and Keita tells Yoko to return to the city and fight with him and Shiro following behind her. Back in the city Kayane and Hake fight Sekidosai and get absorbed by him just like Dai Youko (man Sekidosai is taking care of business). Kaoru decides to make amends for his actions and leaves the others to go in face Sekidosai alone. But of course the others follow behind him because they all love and remain loyal to him. Except for Nadeshiko who stays behind and feels sad because the secret that was holding her and Kaoru so close together is now gone (Yin-Yang: Oh cry me river! You want him than you go out there and take him. Look at Yoko, she scared all the other inukami away from Keita and claimed Keita for herself. If you want Kaoru than you gotta do the same thing). With the combine powers of Kaoru’s pack and Yoko they manage to push Sekidosai to his limits but he’s still too strong for them to defeat. When Sekidosai summons Daisakkai Kaoru tells Nadeshiko to use it to nullify Dai Yoko’s powers (or you could just use it to turn Sekidosai into a normal human nullifying all of his magic and returning everything back too normal. But that would be too easy). Nadeshiko makes it to Daisakkai while the others hold off Sekidosai but she hesitates to make a wish and instead thinks about using the machine for her own desire (you selfish bitch. And I do mean that literally and figuratively. No offence Yin-Yang. (Yin-Yang): Non-taken, I would of said the same thing). This allows Sekidosai to escape from the others and make his way to Nadeshiko where Kaoru protects her and gets a hole planted in his chest (you just had to be a bitch and hesitate didn’t you Nadeshiko?).
So in episode 25 Kaoru gets fisted through the chest where we see that it wasn’t Sekidosai but really Jasei (//youtu.be/kdhhQhqi_AE) who all this time has been hiding inside Sekidosai waiting for his chance to kill Kaoru and feed off his despair all these years (man you are messed up. Did you really have nothing better to do than to just torture this poor guy who’s done nothing to you? Man you really do get off on this stuff don’t you?). Kaoru soon dies and disappears but not before telling Nadeshiko that he loved her and that deep down he always wanted to be like Keita bright and cheerful (Yin-Yang: And a total pervert). With Sekidosai knocked out and Daisakkai now in the hands of Jasei the girls now have to fight their way through an army of skeleton soldiers to reach Daisakkai in the hopes of using it to revive Kaoru. As the girls are fighting Nadeshiko decides to unleash her true power a power she gave up years ago because she almost destroyed an entire village using that power and swore to never use it again (but hey you killed the man she loved so may God have mercy on your soul). With her powers Nadeshiko easily becomes the strongest person in the entire anime even becoming too much for Jasei to handle so he changes his form to look like Kaoru to get Nadeshiko to lower her guard and turns back time before she got that incredible power (damn it Nadeshiko you were the ace we needed). The girls continue to fight not giving up while Shiro and Keita make it inside the city limits where they run into the skeleton soldiers and Keita falls down a crack in the ground and gets swept away by a current of water (they are so screwed).
In the final episode things finally turn around for the group. Keita gets rescued by Tomakichi, the kappa, and the tanuki (talk about an odd group of characters and given the list of characters we’ve seen so far in this anime that says a lot). With the help of the citizens of darkness Keita is able to reach Daisakkai and return to normal where he gives Yoko a kiss saying he loves her and together along with everyone else they kick the perverse ass of Jasei and kill him once and for all. With the fight over Shiro captures Sakidosai and Dai Yoko who lost all of their spiritual power, Kaoru’s pack discover that their contracts with Kaoru are still intact meaning he’s still alive somewhere (he’s just a lost soul wondering the Earth now) and they make plans to go off and search for him. We end the anime with a laugh and everyone smiling.
Final Thoughts
(Yin-Yang): So that was Inukami it’s a good anime with plenty of laughs, action, comedy, and characters to keep you entertained. The characters are the real driving force behind this anime as each one has their own unique personality that makes them different from each other and each one manages to get a laugh out of you. Keita is somewhat of a typical shonen male. He’s perverted but he has a good heart and cares about everyone around him. He’ll always do the right thing in the end and he’s not dim-witted or dense about the feelings of others around him. Yoko is also a cool female lead as she’s strong, has her own hidden problems, isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and is overflowing with confidence. I do like the teamwork she and Keita have with each other as you can tell the two trust each other’s powers and respect each other. The rest of the characters are fetish characters but they are all well-developed and will get a good laugh out of you in the anime. The comedy of this anime is quite perverted as almost each joke can be considered a dirty joke and they do repeat the jokes throughout the anime. I personally didn’t mind them and found them to be quite funny but if you’re someone who doesn’t like these kinds of jokes you’re probably not going to enjoy the anime.
(Nitsuj): As always each anime has their faults and this anime has a few of them. For starters the story isn’t all that interesting as it really doesn’t start to take off until the second half of the anime. The first half just seems to be establishing characters which isn’t bad but I would of liked to see the story progress a bit in the first half while also establishing characters. Keita can be somewhat of a hypocrite as he seemed to have no problem flirting with Kaoru’s pack and trying to be with them yet he goes on record numerous times saying he prefers normal girls over animal girls. So why flirt with the inukami in the first place? I also didn’t like how just when it seemed like Keita and Yoko were about to have a tender moment with each other it gets interrupted by another character for the sake of comedy and returns things back to the way they were before the tender moment. While Keita and Yoko are great leads who will have you laughing and caring about them it can get distracting how the two can shower each other with affection one minute but in the next scene they’re cruel to each other. That kind of thing annoys me especially when there’s no need for it.
(Yin-Yang): The animation is okay. It can be a bit inconsistent at times with some scenes being dry of color and some character designs not being all that good. (Nitsuj): But the music is great to listen to, the voice acting is really top notch in this anime as each character has a voice that matches them perfectly, and the actions scenes are quite good as well. Combine all of this with the comedy of this anime and you’ll be sure to enjoy it all the way.
Final Score
(Nitsuj): My final score for Inukami is a 6/10. (Yin-Yang): I give it a 7/10. Despite the anime having a few problems as you listed I still can’t help but love this anime as it reminds me of my relationship with you master. (Nitsuj): Aww, thanks Yin-Yang. So averaging out our scores the final score for Inukami is a 6.5/10. This anime can be seen as a mix bag. It has good comedy, characters, action, music, and voice acting. (Yin-Yang): But at the same time it has a story that takes a while to start, animation that’s not too pleasing to the eyes, and comedy that you may or may not find funny. If you’re looking for a good comedy anime and don’t mind repetitive sex jokes than I say give this anime a watch. Thanks for reading and joining me on my birthday review we’ll see you guys next time on Project Nitsuj.
